PRESS RELEASE: Orbea

We present the new personalized MyO that the Orbea Enduro Team will ride in the Enduro World Series for the 2019 season.

Thomas Lapeyrie, Becky Cook, Gabriel Torralba and Vid Peršak are the riders that, with Primož Štrancar as Team Manager, are about to assault the Enduro World Series this season with our fastest and most aggressive Orbea bike: the Rallon.

With this aim, we have created special bikes for each one of them using MyO and with the help of our sponsors the result is simply beautiful.

The season has already started with Thomas at the Andes Pacifico, although sadly he got injured. The calendar will follow with the EWS in Rotorua, New Zealand, Tasmania, Portugal, Italy…

 What test ?
  • + 99
Probably play it safe and use LB rims with enve stickers on

 RIP Orbea enduro team

@markg1150: if you look at recent Mavic alu rims from the outside they have a profile like carbon rims. Put Enve M70 stickers on EX830 and you have a better rim, more money left in your pocket and keep the status on rides with kooks

Orbea forgot to refresh pinkbike when they signed.

funny how Paul broke an m7 rim and was told he should have been on there m9 rims. but, the enduro team is all on m7 rims so they must strong enough for these riders but Paul is obviously far more aggressive than the enduro team. which is why he broke the test wheels, got to love enve haha.
  • + 10
sticking ENVE decals on other rims is such a dork move
  • + 19
@RollinFoSho: I agree, but the most hilarious bit is that it is smarter than buying an original Smile

 @RollinFoSho:
Amen. I wear my LB stickers with pride.
I like the good stuff but I'll be dammed if I want to pay big money for it

 @WAKIdesigns:

What is root canal removal?
  • + 0
@WAKIdesigns: maybe because Enve is from Mavic some time ago jejeje

@bike2850: Paul was riding an E-MTB which is a totally different situation than a standard enduro class mountain bike. If you don't understand how a wheel could break on an E-MTB, then you haven't ridden one. M930s were suggested as a solution for breaking M7s, because they are a much tougher wheel. When you're refining wheel design for very specific applications, you don't want to force riders, especially at the top of their game, onto products that aren't refined (balance between weight, width, toughness). The M7 Series wheels are very tough, however, for the very aggressive E-MTB user, we clearly still have work to do, and we're doing it.
  • + 11
@ENVE: whatever you think you are doing, I suggest to stop and use Soviet PR strategy of silence and denial... people eventually forget. Don’t put down the fire when still soaked in gasoline...
  • + 1
 @WAKIdesigns: totally agree
  • + 1
 @WAKIdesigns:

They need to take the keyboard away, at Enve, from the guy who wrote the response to the review.

The new e-bike division should be renamed from Enve to Enmity.
  • + 1
@ENVE: like others have said just stop trying to stop the damage. I definitely understand how a wheel can brake on a ebike, that made no sense. But, why the hell would you try and say you forced Paul onto the reviewed rims? If you offer a trail ebike rim guess what... it gets put on trail ebikes! At least you admitted your product was not refined, aka a piece of crap.
Again just unplug and go back to the drawing board. I’ll even test them for you Wink
  • + 1
@ENVE: yes because your rims aren't designed for the 15 more pounds on an ebike? this is a weak excuse, are you suggesting that if a 15 pound heavier person than paul had been riding the m7's on a regular bike then they wouldn't have broken? I mean christ sake paul is by all reports a slim lad what happens to his paper-mache m7's if he puts on 20 pounds? really seems like this excuse and certainly the rims are just a bit weak.

by all means correct me if I'm wrong enve. I used to be a fan your rims but recently all I hear from people who have owned them is how poor quality theyve been. Bad press from certain world cup teams you've sponsored and reviewers have also influenced my opinion.
  • + 1
 @ryanandrewrogers:

Now now. I don't agree with the non sense answer that was provided Enve in response the issues the review yielded. I will say that my M60s have been awesome and the one time cracked the rim with what ever it was that also punctured three parts of the tire in the cracked area, Enve warranted it with no pushback.

As far as WC teams destroying them I would normally agree with your assessment...until I went to a WC at Monte St Anne. Walking the track during practice was like a lesson on how not to treat your equipment. The sounds coming out of the bikes was worse than nails on a chalk board. There was not one rim company, aluminium or carbon, that did not have full time wheel builders replacing rims after every two or three runs. I am surprise we see more than half the field get down the track without some sort of failure on race day.
  • + 2
@vjunior21: everything is a fk up here, everything. The rim that Paul destroyed is so heavy that, at this weight a quality aluminium rim for 1/10th of the price yields enough strength and stiffness to withstand nearly any abuse that an amateur rider is able to expose it to on any bike in all conditions, at least as long as he is not a fat arse, sitting on his bum while descending at speed. It is very hard to require more strength that what 520g DT EX511 offers. Yes if you pump out lap after lap in Whistler or in Alps, you may wreck one per 2 weeks, but you will not go through 10 a year and I seriously doubt whether any rim would survive that and quite possibly, other parts of your bike won’t make it either.

Carbon rims make sense only in XC where on can reach 300g per rim while maintaining stiffness and basic durability. At those weights, every single aluminium rim is a noodle. But in order to withstand the rigors of gravity riding, carbon rim needs to land in 450g+ area (it needs wall thickness) where they become too stiff and where aluminium rims start to be robust enough.

Then, competition of Enve (LB, We Are One, Nobl) is delivering products of similar properties, with excellent customer support at 25% of the price. Now, it turns out the quality is higher too.

Their response was just a mess in all ways. First off manufacturing quality sucks, things like that don’t just happen randomly, then the quality control sucks, then finaly, you have to be an absolute moron to not handle the sample to be sent to test to major site like Pinkbike with special care. And even if you did send a wrong thing, and you heard WTF, a boss of the company should go down stairs, take 10 rims, pick the best looking one, give to people to polish it, oil it, and send with a pack of pralines... but no. The whole company fkd up on every single front.

And now some employee is handing out his company ass to feast in the cave system of the most ferocious trolls of mtb internet. People who are not interested in truth as much as in sensation and blood. Mistaken, especially in the situation when they have just tasted the blood...

 @WAKIdesigns:
Totally agree. Carbon for xc & trail and aluminum for enduro & dh. That makes the most sense.

I don't understand Enve's response as it makes sense that companies may spec a heavier duty rim for e-bikes but when you design on specifically for it and it fails miserably. That's the time you eat crow and say they are in prototype phase so you would love to hear the exact scenarios that the breaks occurred. But...that's not how it happened so we got the verbal diarrhea we got.

Props to Gabriel for realising Orbea weren't changing the fork colour and doing the only scheme that makes sense...
  • + 13
Those orange forks don’t look great and break many nice schemes. So smart move, even if the end result isn’t that pretty.
  • - 3
@oskare: if someone wants to change his orange lowers to my black on Fox 34 then I am more than happy to do it.
  • + 8
@oskare: Vid Persaks got the best colour scheme
Change My Mind
  • + 2
They all have the orange spring to match the fork apart from Gabi, also it looks like they all have an orange chainguide. TLap went to town with orange accents with the hubs, OneUp topcap and crank protectors. I think they all look amazing.
  • - 1
@oskare: and that is one reason I stayed on the lyrik.
  • + 0
@bohns1: I get it, I have Lyrik myself, but I can’t shake off the feeling that it looks like cheap Suntour Duro or Marzocchi Z1 Drop Off.
  • + 1
@WAKIdesigns: just peel those decals off and all is well.

Gabriel’s got good taste, nice bike
  • + 2
christ if this isn't the most accurate comment on pinkbike this week. No offense thomas but your bike looks like what would happen if you spilled orange marmalade on the french flag.
  • + 26
Scrolled straight to the comments to read the Enve jokes ????
  • + 12
Dunno why there are question marks... it was supposed to be an emoji lol
  • + 25
How is lapeyrie not riding for lapierre??
  • + 12
Damn enve and crankbros? It's like you want a handicap
  • + 8
The ENVE jokes are amusing and I know everyone loves a good piling-on, but here's another perspective: I of course can't speak for everyone's experience out there, but I do know the team broke just one rim last year (Thomas, rear wheel). That's like 8 EWS events with 3-4 racers each event riding who knows how many laps. This doesn't count races outside the EWS, and it's possible that maybe another wheel was broken after the series ended? But the point is that out of all that racing, there was only one wheel-related incident. Orbea is impressed with the equipment and proud to be partnering with ENVE on this team again in 2019.
  • - 3
But they probably got new wheels after each stage.
  • + 10
Love these bikes, some of the best looking out there. Orbea has created an icon
  • + 3
 Yup, great looking imo
  • + 5
That create your own bike on their website is dangerous for someone with a few quid.
  • + 2
It’s a death trap though! ....death
  • + 3
Orbea guy "so guy what colours do you want on your bikes"

Becky: "I like Purple"
Vid: " I like teal, maybe some yellow"
Gabriel: "Orange to match the fork!"
Thomas: "Rainbow me bitch!"
  • + 2
 France flag for Thomas?
  • + 3
What's with all the weird ass colorways? To each their own but geez give me black, red, and medium to dark blue. Those would be my privateer colors.
  • + 5
product showcase video was contemporary and looks sick
  • + 4
I liked more Thomas previous season bike! Than previous blue and orange look was sick!
  • + 5
Vid: ”wish I was sponsored by yeti”....
  • + 2
You could say Gabriels copying ths sb150 colours aswell except that every bike ever made in 2019 comes in orange
  • + 1
@endurogan: who else in 2019 is painting their bikes orange?
  • + 1
@TheBearDen: scott, yeti, orbea, rocky mountain, giant reign sx was orange last year, theres also defintley more im forgetting, point is orange is a popular colour

Not going to lie, not enveous of those wheels, heard they're dead fragile.
  • + 3
Definitely one of the best bike around

What a contrast to the Rallon's awful default colour schemes that make customization mandatory...

Man those pictures are hella low resolution. Digging the look of the bikes, but too much color for my tastes.

  • + 3
 great looking bikes
  • + 1
Why did they put the orange forks on, they simply don´t match, apart from the orange bike of course
  • + 2
Last year for the orange forks. Previously you would have to be a sponsored rider to get them. Now that anyone can get them next year black will be the new black.
  • + 2
It's not too late to change those Enve's Orbea!
  • + 17
 oh they'll be changing them...
