North America, January 6th, 2022

We are proud to have such an amazing human being, racer, and ambassador representing our brand. During Flo’s time at the Pinkbike Academy, she proved herself as a respected leader and role model. Her laser-focus during challenges and charismatic personality off the race track are just a few reasons why we are excited to work with her in 2022.

bigquotesHaving Flo join us as part of the Orbea family for 2022 is really exciting. Those who know Flo will tell you she is a fantastic ambassador of the sport and an even better rider. We can't wait to see what she can do during the 2022 season!Parker DeGray, North American Marketing Manager

bigquotesWe are more than happy to welcome Flo to our big family. 2022 will definitely be an exciting year with a bunch of new ambitious projects and challenges, having such a person and rider rowing together in the same direction could not be betterIñaki Ucín, Orbea’s Sponsorship Manager

What Flo has to say about joining Orbea:

bigquotesI am really excited to join the Orbea team! Racing as a privateer in the EWS really marked me as an athlete. Of course, I learned a bunch about racing itself, all the preparation, the training, the professionalism; but my biggest takeaway from that experience was to know who I am and what I am capable of. It put me to the test in every way as a person, how much I can move the world to get where I wanted, how much I believed in myself. I am excited to take what I have learned into this next chapter with OrbeaFlo

bigquotesMy long term goals are to keep progressing in my riding, keep competing at high levels and explore freeriding; but most important in the long term, establish myself in the world scene of mountain biking to leave a legacy, I want to open more spaces and more opportunities for women/Latin American/queer riders; I want to use what I have and will achieve to help other riders on their journey of racing bikesFlo

photo

bigquotesIt was really exciting to visit the Orbea facility in Mallabia, Spain. I had a really good time in the HQ hanging out with part of the marketing team, doing the tour down the painting line, and seeing the production process. It felt like homeFlo

As a whole, we are beyond excited to welcome Flo to the Orbea family and know that she is just getting started in creating a long-lasting legacy in mountain biking. With her racing talent and content creation skills, we aim to work together on video projects and some other surprises to come! Keep an eye on this girl for the upcoming season to see what unfolds.

I still don't understand why no brand picked her up far before Pinkbike Academy.

I think a lot of sponsor scouts spend most of their time in North America, Europe, and Australia/NZ, but there are great riders all over the world. It's really unfortunate that amazing riders like Flo have to wait for a mediocre reality tv show to get onto a team, just because they don't live in areas where mountain biking is really prevalent.

@danielfloyd: I mean, anyone posting top 10 finishes at EWS races should not be a privateer for a single season, nonetheless multiple seasons.

@HB208: I guess it shows you how hard it is for racers out there.

@danielfloyd: I disagree. Mountain Biking as a sport is more prevalent in Chile than most countries or regions you mention. I live in the US but was born in Chile and travel yearly with my bike to visit family and ride. I have also traveled to ride to many pleases in the East and West coast and in no town I have visited in the US, including Sedona, is the MTB scene more prevalent than in Chile. After work hours you find pick up trucks with enduro and DH bikes heading to trails everywhere. There are trails in the middle of the city, and everywhere in the surrounding Andes. I struggle to find a city the size of Santiago that has more mountain bikers, bike shops or trails per capita. Keep in mind that Chile hosts some of the most important Enduro races in the world like Andes Pacifico and the Enduro World Series has traditionally raced here every other year. Also, Valparaiso Cerro Abajo is probably the most iconic urban DH race in the world. The fact Flo has not has gotten a major sponsor contract is a failure of the major manufacturers more than anything. Chilean riders Pedro Burns and Nico Prudencio have had factory rides in the past and Flo is at their level or not higher. I really hope this opportunity results in Flo finally receiving the recognition and success she has earned and deserves.

Does that mean she's not racing a full EWS schedule? If so, kind of a bummer Frown

@veryfastbiker69: ahí dicen que irá a algunas carreras seleccionadas, y además creación de videos. Y por lo que estuve mirando, no forma parte del orbea enduro team

No shit she joins orbea! What did we just watch 10, 40 minute videos about?

 Aren't Flo's pronouns they/them? Not sure why I see she/her everywhere when Flo's own instagram says they/them.

 Jesus. And it begins.

Good point. It's a surprising oversight in a marketing post. I didn't hear them address their pronouns on PBA, so maybe it's something they're just making public? Hopefully Orbea and PB get on top of this.

@HunterTrow: Whatever it is I hope it is respected, the industry is a couple of years behind on this stuff

I said the same thing just over a day ago, and it got down voted into oblivion. I cant quite understand why a comment like this gets so many negative votes? Its all made in good faith, just pointing out an oversight that could easily be amended.

@Bangbrosbike: the respect for people's identities? Here's hoping!

@shoreboy1866: it would be really easy for them to fix and go a long way toward inclusion in the sport. Sorry to hear that your comment was downvoted - I personally appreciate you speaking up about it!

@HunterTrow: I hope so too. I would think their marketing team would be all over it.
