2016 Pinkbike Photo of the Year
There is $10,000 in cash on the line in the 2016 Photo of the Year Powered by SRAM, so get ready to nominate your favorite pictures.

What's at stake? $10,000 Cash

The 6th annual Pinkbike Photo of the Year Contest is coming fast. The winner will join John Wellburn, Toby Cowley, Sterling Lorence, Christoph Laue, and Sean Lee in the PB Photo of the Year Hall of Fame and they could walk away with $10,000 cash.

Think you have a banger? This is your chance to see how you stack up against the best mountain bike photographers in the world. Any images uploaded during 2016, or up until January 24th, 2017, can be nominated, and you can nominate up to three photos of your own or from other photographers for entry into the competition. Last year over 200,000 votes were cast until ultimately only one image was chosen. This year it's sure to be even more and we can't wait to see who is selected. You have until January 24th, 2017 to nominate your favorite shots, and remember that the photo of the year is now a part of the Pinkbike MTB awards, with the winner grabbing not only the title but also the trophy.

How Does it Work?

All photos taken and uploaded during 2016 and before January 24th, 2017 that are nominated by users are eligible. Each Pinkbike user can nominate up to 3 different photos into the contest (see how to nominate below). The judges will then spend several sleepless nights narrowing the nominated photos down to 32, after which we will open things up to the public. We will pit each photo randomly against another photo in a college basketball bracket-like showdown. At this point, users will vote on the match ups and the photo with the most votes will move onto the next round. So 32 photos will narrow down to 16, then 8, 4, 2 until there is a single photo deemed 2016 Photo of the Year Powered by SRAM. Deadline for nominations is January 24th, 2016.

The winner that is chosen by you, the readers, will receive a cheque for $10,000 thanks to SRAM, as well as the title of 2016 Photo of the Year.

Picture of the Year Nominate
Each photo uploaded in 2016 can be nominated by any user by clicking the 'Nominate this Photo' link. All nominated photos will then be viewed by the panel of judges and narrowed down to 32.

Rules
• Everyone is eligible except for judges
• Only one photo can be selected from each photographer into the final 32
• You must be the photographer who took the photo and then have uploaded it onto your personal Pinkbike account to be eligible
Nominations close, January 24th, 2017, at 9am PST.

I'm just here to let you know the advertising on the front page between articles sucks the biggest a$$!

agreed - but I am looking forward to some new looks vs. the rooster tails, sun rays behind the rider/bike, large beautiful landscape w/ small rider off in the distance, silhouette of rider up mountain through the trees, etc…

The Photographer's and Pinkbike are really missing out on an opportunity to sell prints. A well setup system to buy prints through Pinkbike that offered a range of products from cheaper quality prints and/or downloads up to full gallery quality enlargements would be nice. And yes I know most users would be shocked what an actual nice print would run, but some of us would like to fancy up our house with something we actually like to look at.

you my man are a genius!!! i already get calenders made up with my fave 12 shots of theyear and give them to my riding buddies

@mattwragg: would be a great idea. significantly more views, easy checkout for people who already have accounts. seems like something PB could do pretty well.

my basement shop and real shop would be covered head to toe in PB prints. id buy those before i get a PB shirt.

@mattwragg: . you should contact the powers that be at pinkbike (yes i know you are a MOD) and get this up and running. everyone wins. we get awesome prints with no freaking vases or lame landscapes to look at, the photographers get paid and rightful recognition, pinkbike makes a cut, the printers make money. and my wife moves out !!!!!

@mattwragg: Good to know you sell prints yourself. Surprisingly most photographers I've tried to buy prints from have no real way to purchase from them. Not sure if just not worth their time to deal with it, or if they don't own the rights to most of the photos to resell them. A good site for Snowboard related art is asymbol.co , something like this on Pinkbike would be nice.

Which means my laptop background will be changing soon.

I always find the match ups a bit harsh... 2 pictures that could go to finals put head to head.

I have what's probably a dumb question but here it goes: does the account have to belong to the photographer or rider? As the rider and orcastrater of the shot can I upload the photos in absence of the photographer having an account? I'm sure somewhere this dead horse is being beat so I apologize.

 Orcastrater:

Noun - Someone responsible for the removal of killer whale testicles

Sorry couldn't resist. Don't actually know the answer to your question.

I'm sure as long as it's their content it doesn't matter who's account it's on.

RULES: You must be the photographer who took the photo and then have uploaded it onto your personal Pinkbike account to be eligible.

I love POY, I hope it's not the same bunch of glamour roost shots again though. I love roost and bike glam as much as the next guy but I'd love to see some shots about what's happened this year.

Trying to understand how it must be uploaded by me, but also could be possible to nominate my photo or someone else's... this year I didn't take the photo of the year, but I have a few to keep innate if it's allowed yo actually nominate someone else. Can anyone clarify?
  • 2 0
you can nominate any 3 photos uploaded in 2016, it doesn't need to be your picture

 Hi @mattwragg
Just curious as to what, if any, are the rules/restrictions regarding photoshop work in this comp? i.e., are blended images allowed or must it be a shot taken in one frame? Sorry if you're not the person to ask. Thanks!

But at the end under rules: "You must be the photographer who took the photo and then have uploaded it onto your personal Pinkbike account to be eligible"
  • 2 0
that's not for the nomination, is to protect the photografers. So there is no content stealing e.g. someone uploading a photo taken by other person.
  • 2 0
I have to nominate this one:

  • 4 0

  • 1 0
@JoseBravo: I got it now, thanks. I asked the question 3 times in a row and you answered it twice. Cheers. I'll send some nominations.

That photo used for the banner of this article looks like a censored porno shot with the crotch lit up. Siz
