The UCI would not allow our Junior ESC North American DH Team to register a UCI Team after two successful years that had had us place a junior on the podium and assisted two athletes attend last years world champs. Not only were we disappointed but our racers were devastated. I won't begin to mention how little help USAC offered us. We'll figure another way to help our youngest racers.
  • 5 0
Thanks for putting in the work guys. Now bring some races to NY!
  • 1 0
 On what grounds?
  • 1 0
@CJSelig: Plattekill, Whiteface, Oak, Greek, Gore, Windham, Swain, not to mention club operated riding areas ...
  • 1 0
@schofell84: haha, I've been to Whiteface, Gore and Windham, they kick ass! I meant to ask @Eastern-States-Cup on what grounds did the UCI decide not to allow the team to register?
  • 2 0
USAC blows... That's why we sanction our own races out in Oregon. They bow to the UCI and do nothing to encourage retainment of athletes or grow participation...
  • 17 2
Uci or uti not sure which is worse.
  • 2 3
Normally I'd say UTI since they don't last as long, but with the way the WC season has been going you might be better off with the UTI!
  • 14 1
Vea Verbeeck not racing this year I guess?
  • 2 1

  • 2 0
maybe she pulled a manon and dropped out, did anybody see the wreck she had? i think it was worlds....
  • 13 1
Two things the sport needs. 1) more races in a season. 2) More women riders.
  • 3 0
So many of those doods will never see a top 50 position, yet a team will still put three of those guys on the roster but not a single woman... :/

Tracey Mosley's recent interview and Manon's recent decision highlight part of the problem with growing and sustaining womens participation...
  • 9 1
"This year the team welcomes back the heart of its roster, including seven-time Colombian downhill national champion Marcelo Gutierrez, Irish national champion Jacob Dickson and 'American Eliot Jackson'". Way to single an amazing rider out. at least say "This year the team welcomes back the heart of its roster, including seven-time Colombian downhill national champion Marcelo Gutierrez, Irish national champion Jacob Dickson and 'all-round rad f*cking rider and cool ass dude, American Eliot Jackson'".
  • 10 0
Connor Fearon is busting out a few podiums this year for sure !
  • 5 0
Can I just shout a quick Thank You to PB for laying this out in a simple & clear manner? Don't recall this for previous years, but I definitely like how they did it and the direction they're going! Keep it up PB! Smile
  • 19 13
so transition are the only team with a female as their primary rider? three cheers I say!
  • 31 5
Stop me / downvote into oblivion if I'm wrong, but Miranda Miller on Specialised, Rachel Atherton on Trek, and Miriam Nicole on Commencal? To name a few.
  • 11 1
@ItsOnlyJayke: Emilie Siegenthaler on Pivot to Smile
  • 8 0
@ItsOnlyJayke: hmmm... What does primary mean?
  • 5 1
Yes they are on the teams but they are not to "main" rider. Cool to see, makes me like my Transitions even more
  • 9 6
Jeez - why the downvote..All I am saying congratulations to Transition for having a female fronted team - i.e. Tahnee is their main rider. the other teams you guys mention have males as their primary rider
  • 31 0
@stretchza: Rachel is arguably the primary rider on the Trek team...
  • 4 3
@catweasel: lol..perhaps..lets see how uninjured gee fares this year
  • 2 0
@stretchza: Fair to say his odds of taking a clean sweep of wins any time soon are pretty low.

@itsonlyjayke is spot on if you consider "highest average WC position" to be the main factor in primaryness. Although I would probably say rider support and pay are better indicators of how a brand values their riders.
  • 2 1
@BenPea: primary would mean their success as a racer, siegenthaler has had equally impressive results in the womens field as kerr in the mens, if not better. yeah hes won hardline and hes badass but, lets not be sexist. plus, shes cuter than bernard
  • 9 2
Would love to see Finn grab a podium in his first year!
  • 3 2
hard task ! but he's fast

Your ultimate team name consolidation: Syndicate Sixpack Gravity Factory Sick Young Guns Mob.

Gravitalia Squadra is the best. 'Young Guns' is a bit over cliche now.
  • 11 6
why is angel Suarez on a team still
  • 23 1
I heard he makes the best coffee. Aaron reeeeeeeeally likes coffee.
  • 9 7
Why is Brendan Fair clough still on a top team? These days WC Racing is more about how popular you are than raw speed ,Bet there is someone faster missing out on a oportunity somewhere
  • 25 1
@konacyril: he was top ten / nearby relatively consistently last season, plus he’s great to market and watch. Why would anyone not sponsor the lad. Plus he’s a decent bloke too.
  • 5 0
@konacyril: I think because he has a huge following of people who love watching his runs and root for him to win. Also he's f*cking fast.
  • 4 0
 @cunning-linguist: “top ten / nearby relatively consistently last season” Hmm...19, 31, 38, 24, 52, 42 and a did not qualify
  • 1 1
I ask myself that all the time
  • 3 0
It's a cost/value game. He is sick AF, probably has tons of fans who are buying direct-to-consumer bikes, and his salary is a lot less than his teammates.

@konacyril - Brendan is actually my FAVORITE racer/rider. He kills it everywhere. I'm not arguing... I'm agreeing that he is popular and could potentially sell me a bike. I like a brand more when they stick with my favorite riders. Right now, Santa Cruz is my favorite brand because of RatBoy and Peaty.
  • 2 0
@PNdubRider: Yes you might say that his results went proper downhill as the season went on
  • 5 0
@nuttypoolog: I feel that there are two sorts of riders on teams. Competitive and Marketing.
Label riders as you see fit but I'm throwing Brendan in the marketing column.
  • 1 0
Brendan because he does Decent in WC, and goes to rampage and rips it up umong other freeride events. Great way to market a bike that is versatile.
  • 4 0
you guys forgot also the GB Rifar Mondraker team, with Elonora Farina as top rider Wink
  • 1 0
They are not a UCI Team...
  • 1 0
@GFGF: :O but Elenora rides in both IXS european cup and World cup, so....i don't get it
  • 1 0

She registers through her National Federation
  • 1 0
 @GFGF: got it, thanks
  • 4 0
Wow what a line up! Cannot wait for the season to start ,hurry up!!!
  • 5 1
 Marc Beaumont Back to GMBN?
  • 3 0
Nah he just retired from DH racing
  • 3 0
@lindblomxc: Yeah, I'd like them to list all the people that have not signed yet, or retired, or are doing it privateer style. So many people, it's hard to keep track of everybody.
  • 5 1
Looks like Sam Dale isnt racing then.....
  • 3 0
He's been out and about on a Santa Cruz (appears on one in the 50:01/Fabric video too) so yeah it looks like he's off GT officially.
  • 3 1
Not unexpected really considering last season and being involved in a bit of 'trouble' in previous seasons.
  • 2 0
@Racer951: He has been plagued by bad luck on GT. He did well when he was on Saracen, pity he couldn't keep it up.
  • 2 0

  • 3 0

  • 3 0
No mention of Keegan Wright? He's part of the Unior Devinci team.

  • 3 0
@Screaming-Gecko: Martin Maes and Noga Korem are doing DH races?
  • 3 1
@Screaming-Gecko: He did WC DH last year...?
  • 1 0
@SonofBovril: he did both last year as a semi sponsored (as in equipment) privateer. This year I'm fairly sure he has full sponsorship and has decided to concentrate on Enduro. I read it somewhere.
  • 2 0
@Screaming-Gecko: This list is pretty inconsistent. Some teams have enduro riders listed, some don't. Trek have listed Dan Atherton, I doubt he's racing either.
  • 3 0

  • 1 0
He had one top five WC finish in 2017 and also one in 2016 - both 5th place. Fun to watch though.
  • 1 0
Looks like half the WC field is from great Britain, guess you guys have some nice hills?
  • 3 0
Our biggest hills are smaller than most other countries' speed bumps. But we have great access to those hills, hundreds of committed trail-builders and a "don't-care-what-the-weather's-doing-we're-riding-anyway" attitude ingrained in our culture.

I was wondering myself where he was. After getting signed to Canyon last year I thought he would become a top 20 rider but it doesn't even look like he has a team this year.
  • 2 0
he got injured last year and didn't have the chance to race if I remember correctly
  • 3 0

  • 3 1

Amaury Pierron and Thibaut Daprela are new additions to the Commencal Vallnord Team, while Myriam Nicole and Rémi Thirion have re-signed for three more years with the Andorran marque
  • 1 0
 @kjjohnson: Wrong team bro.
  • 1 1
Theres 2 Commencal Teams, UCI isnt allowing Commencal/100% register a trade team due to new rules that state that a team must have a top 50 placed rider from previous year, or a top 10 at worlds.

Why the FK the UCI isnt allowing it, beats me, they are pushing paying teams away, and stifling income for teams and riders by adhering to this and not allowing Commencal/100% in, i spose they will just doe a Syndicate from a couple years ago, when UCI wouldnt recognise them as a trade team either
  • 1 0
@aushred: weird rule, but commencal/100% would still be a trade team, wouldn't it? Pierron and Klein last year both got top 50s.

he got injured last year and didn't have the chance to race if I remember correctly. I think it was a shoulder injury and the first surgery wasn't succesful so he did another #nastystuff

Ns is in the article and they have a team. Their team is about the same as last year, except that their junior rider, Moritz Ribarich, is now riding for the SRAM young guns team.

 What about Commencal / ?????
  • 4 0
 What about them.
  • 1 0
@chappers998: Theres 2 Commencal Teams, UCI isnt allowing Commencal/100% register a trade team due to new rules that state that a team must have a top 50 placed rider from previous year, or a top 10 at worlds.
