Brett Tippie chats with Keegan Wright, Brian Regnier, Lauren Gregg, Rae Morrison, and Cedric Gracia about their chosen bikes and what's special about them before the 2017 Rotorua EWS stop got started on race day.
Natural selection is what brought us to where we are. They greatest species in the galaxy and probably observable universe. It is very, very good.
BTW, I love Kiwinglish. Someone says "and everything else is the same" and you hear and everthing arses the same", piddles, e-fus aye bas, steam... I could understand more English from a Canadian with permanently enhanced cocaine receptors and two French guys - fkng awesome!!!
@Brdjanin: just here to say something to push the comfort zone... I got lots of luck in last few days. But I do strongly believe that natural selection is good. We shouldn't help it, but still...
18 here, been running my bike like that for like 3 years. I get some weird concerns for sure. But when I ride with the people they dont worry any more haha.
@robdpzero: oh yes, the problem is some never get to see the scythe, some die by cutting themselves on one, or some get killed by those who want to get one from their hands... "you reap what you sow" goes well with other sayings from the good old days. Like "run n*gger run". Upper class bullshyte. Natural selection on a warm, pale blue dot flying through vastness of space. Life is what molecules do when given enough time in favorable conditions my friend.
@chillrider199: He said he was also running very little spring. Didn't say anything about ramp up or compression, but I imagine since his spring and rebound are light, he would need both to compensate. Makes sense to me. Not exactly the feel I'd want on my bike, but he's racing and I'm not.
before I got an actual bike I had a full suspension gravity fsx 1.0 straight out of china that had no suspension dampers whatsoever and I survived a few days in the bike park on it
I wouldn't say English is tough to learn, as a native Russian speaker English wasn't difficult to learn, although it could be that i was teenager when i was learning it versus an adult trying to learn english
@Muckal: is that because no one hears German outside of Germany? I can't remember the last time I watched a German film (actually I can; it was Manta Manta) so perhaps I am less likely to get exposed to your language on a daily basis.
@ermoldaker: It's an official language in two more countries in Europe
No foreign language is easy to learn - the effort needed the learn the vocabulary is pretty much the same. From there on some languages have much more specifics compared to others (German VS English for example).
Actually I enjoy hearing much more different English accents (Scottish my favorite) compared to the German ones
I feel a little sorry for Keegan & Sam Shaw, 2 guys who had a good shot to really get their names out there in a big way on trails they have dominated at enduros for a few years on. But both of them got thrown on totally different bikes a week before the race. Sure getting a better sponsorship deal is good, but I feel the timing could have really hampered their chance to shine unfortunately. (Keegan was on a Trance and Sam a 5010 for the last year or 2)
Tip wasn't joking about get that birthday card on his 40th. I was there, we had a great day shredding the snow on Cypress, all of us but Melinchuck who ate it on his first lap...
I think Tippie has started a new trend: Reporters whoring out their bodies with sponsor/advertising signage. Why not? They're on camera as much or more than anyone else. I can see it now...Channel 4 news at the scene of a fire interviewing the local fire chief, and the reporter has 'Massengill Strawberry Scented' written on his/her forehead
@YoKev - check out "It's Crankworx baby" by Matt Denison. He makes a great fun of the trend and Tippie himself without doing the man any dishonor.
Oh well... you got negpropped for thinking, no worries, they are just affraid you can get ahead of them. What else could you expect from people who care to use propping system.
@WAKIdesigns: don't try and be th anti white knight dude, love how we always just assume they're wearing what they're wearing for sponsors sake, we don't know what about tippies wardrobe
@Theeeeo: I think it has to do with the fan club that people like Tippie, Wyn or Ratboy never asked for... it's just the media exposure that created a picture that some can't help themselves to worship, instead of looking through it. Tippie himself is a gift to the sport, the fact that we see him often is super cool, but this "oh it's Tippie, you must get stoked or f*ck off" is just blatantly idiotic. Stoked/aggressive people should do themselves a good long wank, smoke some weed, take psychodelics, whatever floats their boat as long as they relax instead of pretending they are chilled while they only wait who can they kick in the face for not digging their stoke.
@WAKIdesigns: yes I agree. I feel the same happens strongly in slope style competitions. For me it just annoys me when we, as an audience just chose to assume why pros do what they do. One thing we do know is like any other pro he just ultimately wants to ride his bike
@Theeeeo: they surely want to ride the bike most. But who wouldn't like some applause for what he/she does? Go tell a good joke, see the whole room laughing and tell me it doesn't make you feel good about yourself? Go ride with a few noobs and. And then if you have a company and can't ride well yourself, you toss your products on someone who does it exceptionally well. Would you do it just to get a moving commercial sign? No, I bet no, some sponsor good riders out of the pure passion for the sport, because they admire athletes and want them to excell even more.
There's difference between total narcissism and liking to be in the spot, but some fkrs just see it as one and the same thing expecting absolute unconditional humility. Same with sponsorships. Yes, you do want money return for their investment, but that is not the one and only motivation. Ultimately these athletes need to focus on riding and everything that bikes their riding better, if they are to come out of such developed pack. So they will do promos for their sponsors, why the hell not? And some twats see it as something bad... fk them. Some do take over the edge (like I think Peaty does - stone me nooow) but in most cases, watch your own fkng wardrobe.
@WAKIdesigns: of course, I understand that. Maybe I just don't really see it with tippie because towards the end of last season I was lucky enough to ride with him on a regular in the end. And I do watch my wardrobe! For the most I wear unbranded street clothes, with the odd BMX hoodie lols. What do you mean by take over the edge?
