Nothing between Sam and Jesse but you would have to say Sam is on another level considering these aren't his home trails.

Not really sadly Sam lost that advantage on stage 2 and they are half a second apart going into stage 3
  • 14 1
@WolfStoneD: I'd love to see an EWS at Sam's home tracks. It's a HUGE advantage for Jesse to race at Whistler. Sam's simply killing it.
  • 11 2
@ColquhounerHooner: it's an advantage, sure, but he's also been doing really well at stops with very technical trails. Sam is amazing, but Jesse is a steep, techy gnar specialist, and is a force to be reckoned with on any trail that has those features - at home or not.
  • 8 5
@jayacheess: Yep Sam really struggles in the steep tech...

Really, if he's within a minute it's astounding to me. I'd bet he'd be minutes ahead if it was the other way round. Nothing against Jesse. He's a killer rider.

@ColquhounerHooner: I didn't say it wasn't an advantage for Jesse, but to his credit he has been at the pointy end of the field all season.

I was more saying that Sam isn't on an other level. Sure he got first on stage 1 but then got 8th on stage 2 and lost the 15 seconds he gained. Then he got second in the next two stages. So that's not really another level, he isn't winning every stage by huge margins.
  • 9 3
@WolfStoneD: you're not listening mate, apart from this weeks practice he's probably never ridden the tracks before. THAT is another level. They're Jesse's home tracks for crying out loud. He should win.
  • 3 2
@jayacheess: funny that, Jesse was the only rider to lose the front end on a steep rock slab in Tassie.
  • 4 0
you all stfu... Sam is leading overall by 110 points... all his rivals placed 6th % below.. He is the winner in my books. LEGEND
  • 5 2
@ColquhounerHooner: you're really going to argue that Melamed isn't a tech specialist? Good god, dude. Just because you're a Sam Hill fan, doesn't mean you have to deny the great riding from other racers.

 @Lagr1980: totally. Jesse wasn't even a threat.
  • 5 5
@ColquhounerHooner: but that definition the home rider should win at every location.

Jesse can win at home, just like he can win everywhere else.

And Sam can win on every track he shows up to. I'm a huge Hill fan, but he isn't on another level. He's in the mix.

@WolfStoneD: oh for sure mate. meanwhile Sam's leading leading the series and Jesse's where? BTW, I'm just simply pleased for Sam that his racing career is having another flourish of success at this stage of his life and after such a bad run of injuries that interrupted the later years of his downhilling. It's good too that Jesse won this race after last years 2nd but I don't see him as a contender for the overall. Ever.
  • 4 0
@ColquhounerHooner: Ever? So you're just trolling now, right?

He's been getting much better year-over-year, and has had a 1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th place finish this year, along with being in first place after day one in Medeira before a mechanical put him out of the race.
  • 5 1
@ColquhounerHooner: Jesse was 9th coming into Whistler with a DNF and no points in round 3.

With a stage win and a handful of second places and a third coming into today.

Very much on the short list of those who could take the overall.
  • 1 1
@WolfStoneD: yes, Jesse is doing better than I thought....
  • 1 1
@jayacheess: ever was a bit harsh. I'd never really heard of him much until I saw him race in Tassie earlier in the year.
  • 1 0
@ColquhounerHooner: The pea gravel here would destroy everyone but there would have to be SO many transfers and repeated trails. Not much elevation or variation here in Western Australia. That said bring it on please.
  • 1 0
@choppertank3e: yes I presumed all of that, I was just banging on about the advantage for 'home ground' riders in the EWS. Having said that it's fantastic that they do offer new venues in beautiful places every year.
  • 17 0
This is possibly the worst event coverage Ive ever seen. Graphics, interviews and file footage... garbage.
  • 2 0
Agreed. Might be good competition, but totally unwatchable.
  • 5 0
Cant believe the whole commentary team missed Richie Coming down the finish. You can see a glimpse in the back ground. They had to be told who was winning at one point?
  • 15 6
What a load of bullshit. Are you guys kidding me?? I should've known I wasn't actually gonna get coverage of the actual race.. eff you guys for that. Watching the last stage is like watching the last lap of a pro supercross race. I'm so freaking pissed. Got totally f*cking yoinked..
  • 8 6
 cry me a river
  • 3 0
@mollow: well they could at least have some cameras at the bottom, who knows maybe they will. But it is bollocks so far.
  • 6 0
Literally just watching the commentators scroll through the results page on their computer while occasionally pulling up youtube videos and instagram pages.
  • 2 0
How is there no update on the racing in the previous 4 stages? Is there no footage? Do they not know what's going on? Weak
  • 2 0
@RearBrake: If you watch the live tracker you can see that most the women and men are all on the course at different times on different stages, there was over 100 men in the Elite men category alone and the spread of stages is over 50km long.

You can't show that all live at once, which is why they do the awesome roughly 25 minute recap videos shortly after the race.

This isn't DH where there are 2-3 riders on course at once spread out over under 4km of track.

For thought just give a rough idea of cameras you think you need to cover 5 stages on 3 mountains with 50km and 200 riders all riding at the same time?
  • 2 0
 @WolfStoneD:

There is camera coverage all stages and interviews in between stages that appear on the final highlights video. Why not have some of that content uploaded and used on the broadcast instead of listening to an hour of commentary with next to zero meaningful content? If we wanted to watch commentators talk for the sake of talking, CNN is a click away. Otherwise, the stage coverage for 5 was good by enduro standards, waiting for it was painful.
  • 1 0
 @RearBrake: because cables.

The cameras that get footage for the recap record to memory. The live feed is all strung together with cables.

Not that I'm a video expert but last year for the DH they had a cable highway linking all the cameras together.
  • 3 0
@WolfStoneD: getting footage from 2-6 hrs previous into the production booth and ready for webcast is not an insurmountable task in 2017. Hell, you can upload your gopro run from your smartphone at the trailhead, surely a professional production company can do better.
  • 9 0
I feel like this stream is very lacking. The coverage is meh, but ill take what I can get. My big problem is these awful commentators, slurring words, mispronunciation of simple names... Just get somebody who can talk please...
  • 3 0
I cringed every time I heard the commentators say "Yohann". There's no "h" in Yoann Barelli's name. It's written right there on their screen as they're mispronouncing it.
  • 2 0
@davecheng: Yohann and Lapierree. Poor frenchies.
  • 10 0
Show the race please. This coverage is disappointing.

Keene out!
Jared’s team mates Keegan Wright and Curtis Keene are both out too – Keegan had a flat and Curtis broke his wheel. Stage 1 carnage!

13 August, 2017 - 12:23:36
Graves is out!
Oh no! Jared Graves is out with a mechanical!
  • 2 1
I dont even think Graves made it to the start gate. Such bad luck this season, hopefully next year is better for him
  • 1 0
WTH?? A whole team taken out with mechanicals, early in the race??
  • 5 6
Good on him! People on internet dont know shit about wheels anyway Smile

flag mollow (Aug 13, 2017 at 16:22) (Below Threshold)
Congratulations Jared you played yourself. I guess it was pure luck once gain? Tell me more about you know more about flat tires than everybody on internet again
  • 4 1
He could have been on full dh casings for all you know.

@mollow:
  • 5 1
@mollow: you know so much more than Jared Graves about riding mountain bikes and everyone on Pinkbike knows it.
  • 7 0
 This has to be fake.

With Jared calling out arm chair riders about knowing more about flats and tires, then the whole team suffers mechanicals/flats, is this what you call "ironic"?
  • 4 1
@mollow: whats with the chip on your shoulder? If your such a badass no flats ever pinned 100% of the time mother f*cker why don't you show up to an EWS and kick some ass? Oh wait your not, let me guess just another washed up douche bag.
  • 1 0
The irony is they're now talking about tires......hahahah

flag mollow (Aug 13, 2017 at 17:53) (Below Threshold)
@thejake: I've actually never said nor imply that... I just don't like when people think of themselves the way Jared does. Sorry I hurt your feelings fanboi
  • 4 1
@mollow: not a fan of Jared but not a hater either. By the way you did say that about yourself when you bashed a guy who is a professional rider with years of expierence who rips.
  • 2 1
@mollow: Excuse me, I know a wheel when I see one.
  • 6 0
so the "biggest enduro race of the year" has some horrible video angle coverage. come on !
  • 6 0
5 min of chatty Kathy's and no riding...im out
  • 4 0
I haven't seen a single rider in the 30 minutes I've been watching.
  • 3 0
Seriously. They're like the Joe Bucks of mountain bike commentating. I challenge them not to talk for two seconds.
  • 2 0
Super exciting race, very bad commentators, camera angles, useless complexity. The older commentator is desperately trying to inject artificial "sport TV" excitement in every sentence. It's what is actually happening that keeps me on the edge of my seat, not your yells and screams man.
  • 3 0
No coverage or even mention of Richie Rude's smokin' run on Stage 5. Hmmmm...
  • 3 0
Just throwing a lazy 17 seconds on the field on stage one ...... cmon sam
  • 5 1
And lost 15 seconds on stage 2 to finish that stage 8th
  • 2 0
I'm wondering how much riding Sam has done at Whistler? I'd imagine, not too much, if so, he's killing it!
  • 3 0
I'd imagine Sam Hill has ridden Whistler once or twice. After all, he's been a pro racer for like 3 or 4 years now.
  • 1 0
@lccomz: yes, but going there would never have fitted in with the DH series.....
  • 3 0
 MELLLLLLLAAAAAAMEEEEEDDDDD!!!!!!!
  • 2 0
Wtf was that? What percentage of this was biking and what percentage was other stuff?
  • 4 1
 Sam Hill!!
  • 2 0
Is this supposed to be a webcast? I have no video.
  • 2 0
It's a countdown timer until the coverage starts.
  • 5 2
 Sam Hill - enough said!
  • 2 1
 Not sure Jesse agrees.
  • 2 0
wish we could've seen rudes run
  • 3 0
Seriously! They were showing some one else at the finish and you see rude cross the line in the background. 2 time champ and stage winner got no air time. It's hard to complain when the coverage was free, but you'd think they could do better.
  • 2 0
Replay...wasn't this all commentary sans action feed?
  • 2 0
Zzz zzz zzzzzzzz zzzzz. Zzz zzz
  • 2 0
I want to watch the race no those 2 guys talking this sucks ..............
  • 2 0
 Yeeee let's get it goin!
  • 2 0
 Go Blenki!
  • 1 0
and just like that Sam extends his lead in the series rankings. Sweet.
  • 1 0
 Apparently Maes is out
  • 1 0
 Jesse! Kills it!
  • 1 0
 Atta boy Jesse!!!
