Chris Akrigg - A Winter Hard Tail - Video

Dec 30, 2015 at 13:39
by Pinkbike Staff

Winter time in Yorkshire can be a pretty rough place to ride, but if you attack it with the right attitude and plenty of clobber on, for me its some of the best fun you can have on a bike. So this is me laiking (playing) about in the cold and wet aboard the Mongoose Ruddy 27.5 + hardtail.

I always crash after watching a Chris Akrigg video.
  • 5 1
 Hah same here!
  • 11 6
Chris! Why must you constantly remind me that I only have decent skills!?
  • 22 0
Do you always want to buy whatever bike he's riding as well? I have a feeling a lot of people will be buying hard tails in 2016, people have been shredding them pretty hard lately and making it look awesome.
  • 6 2
Chris, do you use flats or clips?
  • 9 1
wAIT A miNUtE tHIs aiNT eNDurO?!
  • 9 0
I just took delivery of my 27.5 mid fat hardtail. This video got me too stoked. Best videos going are from Mister Alkrigg.
  • 1 0
at my local bike park theres kids on hardtails riding the black lines and they kill it
  • 1 0
i raced 3 national xc races which consisted of 70% black diamonds on a $600 dollar hardtail!!
  • 127 0
This video, I dig it. Big Grin

However, I think I saw a simpler way for him to cross that bridge
  • 8 0
It would be pretty hard if he did it from under the bridge, but that's just me.
  • 9 0
That was some impressive riding, I think the fitness level to side hop that much is off the charts.
  • 6 0
"what is the most difficult way from A to B? Sounds good. I'll have that"
  • 6 0
Maybe his bars were too wide
  • 91 0
When the industry figures out how to make a disk brake that's silent when wet, our brethren in the Isles can stop calling the geese.
  • 16 0
It's serious geese calling season over here, too.
  • 66 0
 Akrigg rules
  • 5 1
 Yeah, he does...
  • 8 0
I'm pretty sure if I could have the skills of any rider today, I would choose Akrigg.
  • 6 1
You get my vote on that one too. Akrigg seems more at home on dirt than McAskill. I would give my left testicle for 1% of the skill either of them has.
  • 4 0
This says it all. I like Akrigg's riding, style, and videos more than anyone's, even Danny Mac.

I wonder what happened to his super-cool "Water Cycle" video. All the HD versions are gone from the internets. Suspect he had to take it down for some reason?
  • 2 0
Not a full-HD, but I did find the Water Cycle video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMh5OSBvTyg
  • 2 0
Amazing vid. Thanks for the link
  • 2 0
I believe it was something to do with one of the locations being protected or something, not wanting people to get the idea that you should ride there. Or something along those lines. Might be wrong tho, it's a shame as it is a seriously sick video!
  • 1 0
i don't understand why i've never seen that before. Absolutely amazing riding.
  • 51 0
Man, he just makes everything I've ever ridden look mundane at best. Ditches...he just made ditches awesome. Ditches!
  • 6 0
You have to have legs of steel to be able to ride those ditches like he does. I would bog down in twenty feet.
  • 36 2
Well that's one way to get to the pub
  • 5 1
I hope I can just ride to the pub!
  • 4 2
I wish he would stoppie into the pub with style... Nah leave that to Kerr then.
  • 7 0
... I'd like to see the journey home from the pub Smile
  • 1 0
He'd already been to the pub, had to come back to get his house keys, thats why he was letting loosey goosey llike that going back! I do the same thing on my commuter, only I don't go any further than 10yrds before end on my ass and I am pushing my rig with pedal bites all over me shins the rest of the way.
  • 26 0
if you can't shred a HT then you're just not real !!
  • 1 0
i can, but bumpy and timid as hell and afterwards my knees hurt from month old wounds when I forgot my pads.
  • 22 0
Akrigg, you are the man. Thanks for working as hard as you do.
  • 8 0
Yeah, his edits are so sick, man. Totally agree! He gets me all fired up with these things...
  • 22 1
BTW..Mongoose, if you ever decide to "Part Ways" with Chris Akrigg...you're NUTS!!!!!!!
  • 21 0
Seriously. @mongoose whatever you pay this man, it's not enough!
  • 7 5
 Do a Gwin Chris!
  • 4 1
the only company i can see him going to is, of course, YT
  • 1 0
I would love it if he went to yt.
  • 4 0
Chris is a fine example of a sponsored rider promoting the brands that support him. Superskilled guy, yet he comes out as chilled and positive.
  • 20 1
All the money I would spend on a 4k computer... goes to my bike. Still sick though!!
  • 18 0
My toes got cold just watching this video
  • 6 0
 Just get waterproof socks..
  • 2 0
 They don't work sadly
  • 1 0
Hmm admittedly I'm not from the UK so what do I know about rain but my Sealskins are still waterproof after dozens of rides. Heavy waterlogged shoes still suck though..
  • 1 0
i was thinking his ears would be frozen which makes the whole head hurt.
  • 2 0
The sides are waterproof but the large hole at the top isn't, so anything running down the leg ends up wetting out the socks. Best just to get something that doesn't soak it up and keeps your toes warm.
  • 16 0
He rides like I think I ride when I'm out! Top skills Chris lad
  • 14 0
The message of this video: NO SMOKING
  • 1 0
 I thought use mud guards/fenders.
  • 2 0
 or use resin brake pads
  • 13 0
Guy makes me feel so good and so shitty at the same time.
  • 6 1
 That's what she said!
  • 12 0
 This video is absolutely awesome!
  • 11 0
I'm classically conditioned to think, "I should ride my bike more", whenever I read the name Chris Akrigg.
  • 8 0
I can do that...going into the pub at the end.
  • 9 0
 Moor of this please...
  • 3 1
 And he never fell off
  • 6 0
 That trail had great flow.
  • 7 0
Tune in next week when Chris will be pedaling the same Yorkshire river valleys on a pedalo-boat
  • 6 0
A Perfectly AWESOME video!!!..Filming, MUSIC-spot on!!!, and RIDING=Thank you for that!!!!!!!!!
  • 5 0
Only Akrigg can make you guys forget he's on a 27,5 +. Not a single comment biching about wheel size!
  • 7 0
 lock this bike , mate
  • 5 1
Seen more spectacular Akrigg vids, but I reckon this is my favourite though. Great way to end the year, Happy F***ing New Year everyone.
  • 9 0
all of his videos are the best ... but FIVE is my fave of all time
  • 3 0
Further evidence that people who start off riding moto trials are a race of Uebermenschen that infiltrate other disciplines to make the rest of us look terrible. But seriously----how the what the hell!?
  • 4 0
Suddenly 27,5+ HT makes sense although Chris could even ride a shopping cart impressively. Smile Great video and amazing riding as always.
  • 2 0
Chris' edits are the best inspiration to go riding. When the weather is cold and wet and you get so cosy at home... watch a single Akrigg video and in less than 5' you're heading for the nearest trail, hopping curbs along the way pretending to have his skills.
  • 2 0
Mongoose better be happy with having akkrig on contract!! Big Grin
They could fire everyother rider eccept him and would still be able to promote every bike they produce.

Chris is probably my favourite rider right now!
  • 1 0
Hey, ive got the sames handlebars as he does. Ive kept them for the past 5 years. Hard to get through trees as i never will cut mine down. But they are extremely wide and provide amazing control and feel when smashing through a trail.
  • 6 1
 Enduro trials, coming soon
  • 2 0
 Sounds great!
  • 5 1
If riding a Mongoose gets me those kind of skills, I'd happily trade in my Enduro!!
  • 2 0
I love to see such an awesome ride on natural terrain. Don't get me wrong; machine cut trails are lots of fun too, but this is the kind of like riding that keeps me out there year after year.
  • 5 4
He didn't lock his bike, I guess no one would steal a modern Mongoose!! I kid I kid!! When I was young in the early 80's mongoose was a top BMX brand.... Now they are Walmart specials ......
  • 2 0
Mongoose Pro Class in smoked chrome .. that was the biz, now .. well .. lets just say they are lucky as hell to have Chris on their side ..
  • 4 0
Just a standard, lackadaisical bridge crossing.
  • 3 0
A hardtail is for all year round, not just for winter! Ace video as always from Mr Akrigg.
  • 5 1
instant like for all akrigg videos...hands down the best rider out there!
  • 4 0
That is not what IMBA had in mind when they speak of flow trails.
  • 1 0
Amazing skills! Wow, Mr. Akrigg puts down/out incredible power! A true inspiration to all, especially anybody who has been injured. Thank you Chris
  • 2 0
its nice to know that its not only my brakes that screech like a distressed goat in the wet!
  • 1 0
That was a sick edit! Simple and elegant music, technical and elegant riding! I will never give up my hardtail, everybody should be riding them...
  • 4 0
 What trail is that?
  • 2 0
Part of it was near Walshaw north of Hebden Bridge, not sure about the rest.
  • 12 1
 thats a trail?
  • 1 0
Some Shipley Glen, some harden moor.
  • 2 5
Besides the awesome riding, I kept thinking how boring of a place this looks to ride. Maybe a little fun to be had with doing some drops here and there, but meh.
  • 8 0
Nowhere is boring to ride when you're Chris Akrigg.
  • 2 0
It looks nice and warm in that pub.
  • 4 0
It's never boring to ride anywhere if you are creative and want to improve your bike handling skills, for me anyway.
  • 3 0
Pretty sure most of that stuff was centred round the Guide Inn pub he finished at, theres loads of rides that go from there plus they used to put food on if you told them you were doing a night ride from there.
  • 2 0
Stellar performance as always from definitely one of the best bike handlers. SKILLS!!!!!
  • 3 0
Sweet video Chris. Bangin around in the Hardtail is always a good time.
  • 4 0
 Enjoy that pint!
  • 1 0
Almost makes me miss the British Winters. I don't have an excuse to have a Winter hardtail since I moved to NZ... but I still want one!
  • 4 0
if you need an excuse...how about "backup bike."
  • 1 0
 Worth a try!
  • 2 0
He rode through a lot of streams, seems he's making up for "The Water Cycle" getting taken down.
  • 1 0
Apparently their was a sniffle of a problem and he took it down regardless, off his own back, shrugged his shoulders and moved on .. he dont like hassle or messing about this lad
  • 1 0
having just watched the water cycle i have to think chris,s opinion on parts testing would be the man to listen to. love to know the state of that rear shock after that video
  • 2 0
How much attack position sag would one set for doing all these tricks? 10%?
  • 3 0
If only the bike came with that spec!
  • 2 0
Just got my Ragley Blue Pig! Can't wait to get it built and ride it this winter, although not like Mr. Akrigg.....Wink
  • 4 3
That was pretty god damm AMAZING!!! I hate the look of the big tires though,
  • 1 0
Awesome editing. The music kind of puts all your attention on the riding...really cool
  • 3 1
I would love to See Chris Ride up National Trail in Phoenix, AZ.
  • 2 0
did anyone elses computer explode when they put the setting to 2160p?
  • 1 0
Thanks for the tip, looks AMAZING! Of all the 4K youtube vid's I've watched It never occurred to me to take the resolution off "AUTO"... Smile

But on the flip side, hello to BUFFERING. Frown
  • 2 0
A+ video. Creative and sick in every way.
  • 1 0
Was that a trail or did just make that up as he went along, holy smokes, great rider.
  • 1 0
I need to ride so bad after watching this radness. I always look forward to a new Chris edit.
  • 1 0
Fork locked out the whole time?
  • 5 3
Akrigg over Danny Mac all day any day.
  • 4 0
 they are both sick!
  • 1 1
At 52 seconds was my favourite part. There's a ditch like that near here that I wanted to do similar things, only to find out that it's too shallow, and overgrown.
  • 2 0
Holly shit ! i need to ride right now !!!
  • 2 0
Riding partner wanted. Must be able to ride like this.
  • 2 0

Chris Akrigg doesn't need any mud guard. Ha!
  • 1 0
The water in that river has less flow than Chris Akrigg
  • 1 0
Such intense energy every time from Akrigg!!!!
  • 1 0
I can do that ... drift at 2'30"
  • 2 0

Awesome video. Seriously makes me want to build another hardtail.
  • 1 0
That cliff drop was about 12 ft! Legendary riding
  • 1 0
 Sick riding as always tup
  • 1 0
Chris doesn't want to build a trail, he just uses a small stream
  • 1 0
cool chris is one of the best
  • 1 2
Chris is an amazing rider, so smooth on everything, BMX, kids bikes, DH bikes, trails...

but he seems almost choppy on the 27.5+ bike.
  • 1 0
feel guilty for not riding forest of dean today now, great video
  • 1 0
Top it all off with a pint at the pub. This guys always does it right!
