City DH Bratislava Finals Cancelled Due to Riot

Jun 20, 2015 at 12:31
by Pinkbike Staff

Bernardo Cruz' finals run comes to an end as rioters run up the course.

As it happened. One Pinkbike viewer captured the broadcast feed.

The finals of the City Downhill World Tour came to an abrupt halt in Bratislava, Slovakia, today when a large group of masked individuals dressed in black stormed the finish area and tore down the end of the course. Sources from the event say the rioters also attacked crowd members and camera crew as police tried to intervene and calm the situation. We have not heard if anyone was seriously injured at this time.

Here is some info from Filip Nagy - "There was a big public demonstration and a march through the city against illegal immigration, which is kind of a number one topic of the European Union in the last few weeks. A small group of about 40 radicals got in a clash with the police near the finish area of the race. In a quick turn of events, during first runs of the finals, they got on course, started running uphill and used the barriers and wooden obstacles of the track to slow down the riot police chasing them. As far as I know, being right in the hotspot at the time, no one was seriously injured, although a lot of timing and broadcasting equipment got thrashed. After running all the way up to the castle and knocking over a few more jumps, the protesters dispersed.

Although most of the spectators went away, the crew immediately began to repair and rebuild the course, getting ready to restart the race. Unfortunately, police closed off the finish area and started collecting evidence from the photographers and bystanders to be used in the prosecution of arrested protesters. As the event is held at a historic site, it only has a limited time window. Unfortunately, the race could not be relaunched in time. It still not known whether and how will the runs from qualifying count towards the overall standings in the City Downhill World Tour.

I've been living in Bratislava all my life, and there is just one overwhelming feeling over the whole incident, shared by hundreds and thousands of spectators – shame. We're very sorry that racers travelling thousands of miles for the event had to experience this shameful, but nonetheless very unique and isolated incident. Although being obviously disgusted and downhearted, Filip Polc, the event organizer and the current overall points leader of CDWT had a few optimistic words for the Slovak media: „I am relieved no one got hurt. I hope our partners won't turn their backs on us and we can do it once again. The weather will surely be nicer too and everything will be twice as good! This time it unfortunately was twice as bad.“

Press Release from City Downhill World Tour
Bratislava Slovakia ,23.6.2015

20 PRO Riders from 12 nations traveled to Slovakia to attend the 3rd round of the World Tour in Bratislava on Saturday 20 june.

The training started at 10am and should last until 1pm.

After a break in training due to a strong shower , the organizers fixed the obstacles with carpet and chickenwire against sliding, so the training was extended until 2pm.

Some of the riders had mechanic problems and some got injured, so in the qualification we had 16 riders which started at 3pm. Tomas Slavik had bad luck in the first run smashing his ancle on the longest DATALAN jump ( 15meters long) , so he was out.

Quallification went as scheduled, every rider was going to the finals, so it served as a test timed run.

Before the final run everything was ready to go live on Slovak national TV channel and online on citydownhill.com, where the fans could watch the quallification runs as well.

5pm - the finals started as scheduled.
First 2 riders came into the finish , waiting for the next one on the Hot seat.
Bernardo Cruz, rider from Brazil started his final run dropping the 5 m high starting ramp.
After a crash in qualifying on the same spot as Filip Polc, where they were looking for the maximum speed in the off camber, he was looking very smooth and fast .
After the wall ride, speed section and the big jump he start to notice the red flag by entering the long stair section .

In a second he had to stop because of the violent people on the track . The barriers got broken, and a group of 300 people entered the track running up towards the Castle, destroying the track, attacking people ... The attack destroyed live streaming and timing hardware.

After this incident the Slovak police arrested 40 people , they sealed off the lower part of the track started to investigate the crime scene, what took 1hour. The rest of the riders were waiting if the race will continue. The track building staff checked the damages on the track and fixed the broken obstacles and fencing, but during the timing check the organizers realized that is totally broken and the race could not continue .

We can not present any official results of this race , because the qualyfication was not relevant as a race run .

The organizer deeply apologize to all rides who came and to all our fans for this unexpected situation and stressfull times.

We are very sad that our effort to organize a high level international race was destroyed by human madness and we are not sure , that we will be able to organize this race again next year.

The staff of Pinkbike hopes that all of the victims of this incident are now safe and unharmed.

Uhhh, well the practice of doing so is the reason why us "capitalists" are able to do things like own private property. Because "SOMEONE" (The "establishment"? The "powers that be"?) says so. Yeah this riot sounds like it was an act in defiance of said "SOMEONE" but without more info, what do we know? Maybe some Jihadabad "anti-freedom 'TERRORISTS'" what dun don't like our way of life. Kill the infidels & all that? Or maybe just some pissy equestrians whose horses slipped & fell in their own shit after some DHer scared it out of 'em. Haha LOL. Not sure which one's funnier.

@jonnyfingers : Purely out of curiosity, do you believe in the penal system? I definitely see where you're coming from, with regards to migration, but to make such a blanket statement seems a bit... excessive, don't you think?
  • + 12
@DH777, Even if generalized, you can hopefully see the point he is making. The ideals of a free interchange of culture, ideas, and opportunity is predicated upon the freedom to move about the earth that we all inherently share. We're no more entitled to it than any other group of people are. That grossly looks over a lot of detailed socio-political intricacy, but I think the idea of excluding newcomers to foreign lands is a bit counter-intuitive. That's just my humble opinion.
  • + 13
Free movement would, in an ideal world, be the de facto immigration policy. It has a few issues in the real world, such as in the EU, eg. by adding strain to already stretched public services without contributing financially, increasing population density and adding to housing pressure. It isn't sustainable to allow an infinite number of new people into a finite amount of space.
  • + 1
perhaps we are reaching a point where the system we humans created is not sustainable. our time here has been very small in the grand scheme of things, and to think something that's come to be in the last few hundred years should be the abiding system for life is a little wonky.
  • + 2
@kbrock Like I mentioned in the previous post, I see the arguments that can be made for an open border policy, although I doubt the OP put the same level of thought into their comment as you. I'm merely playing devil's advocate. It seems that a lot of people seem to forget (or choose to ignore) that there are good reasons (as well as bad, admittedly) for our governments to impose certain restrictions on immigration and more generally, the flow of people.

Perhaps I came across too cynical in my previous post? I'm not saying either ideology is right or wrong, I don't think anyone can intelligently do so. I was just trying to encourage readers to be more open to both sides of the argument. Like you said, it seems counterintuitive to ignore others' opinions because they're different to one's own.

"At least 140 people have been arrested in Slovakia’s capital, where thousands gathered for an anti-immigration and anti-Islamization rally, according to local media reports. The march turned violent as protesters scuffled with police.

The march was organized by the Alternativna cesta group via Facebook. It was called to protest against Brussels’ proposal to tackle the influx of migrants to the EU by imposing compulsory national quotas that require EU countries to accept a specific number of new migrants, most of whom arrived in Italy or Greece.

“We had a lot of bad experience with Muslims… This [rally] is probably the last chance to stop Muslim invasion,” one of the protesters told Ruptly."

Again... The problem comes at a time when they are outnumbered. I'm not saying they're bad people, but their faith in the pedophile murderer makes them untrusted for me no metter how kind they look. Why dont we hear every day of so many terrorist attacks in the name of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism...? I'm not sure but I think theres some association with their faith. Fanatic Muslim will cut your head off while moderate one will hold your feets. Yeah that sounds funny but with current trend of importing 1 milion of them per year (1 billion remaining to save all the Africa) its near future.

 FEAR.

the reason for all the trouble in the world is due to Corporations and the government and media under their control, it is in their interests that people fight each other and do not unite.

we need to live in fear of an imaginary threat that we can be protected against otherwise why would anyone tolerate the injustice, corruption, destruction and economic prison that we live in?
  • + 11
I'd say this is perfectly natural as on one side you have influx of people who live in horrible conditions and naturally seek a better place to live and the other, the intrinsic fears of people of countries to which they move to, which we all get from mother nature. European governments solve that situation by playing the game of "Be tolerant and DO NOT ASK ANY QUESTIONS" promoting the hundred years old ideals of unconditioned equality, we all all brother we should hug each other, love and all this you can hear in EU anthem "Ode to Joy" which was apparently the most favorite song of all recent tyrants. This is was good, we learned sht loads, that we can coexist, that Europe is actually responsible for a lot of bad-being of people who move in, so in some way we owe it to them to take them in. But it just stops working as the influx gets closer and we need Tolerance 2.0 or things will go to sht pretty quickly. Anti-immigrant movements are popping like mushrooms in all countries. The very fact that there is such thing going on in Slovakia is laughable as Slavic countries have little influx compared to wellfare states like Germany, Netherlands, UK or Scandinavia. It just points out at immaturity of society. I come from Poland, we are the same.
  • + 3
Influx is here, fears have always been here, the question governments have to formulate and answer are mroe or less: are economies losing or gaining money (numbers please), what is the prognosis basing on influx volume, current data of immigrants getting jobs, getting unemployed, then those who get some sort of social help. What would be the size of immigration that would cause too much national expenditure? Have we reached it? If so, what is government going to do about it? Democracy 2.0 is welcome as well, how about if there is a societal pressure to arrange a refferrendum and people vote for massive deportation? Is there any government in Europe that would bow under such pressure?

For now all we are getting from politicians is 70% saying that we can take all Africa, Southern Europe and West Asia combined, we just need to all love each other and everything will be not only fine but better, 5% are presenting reasonable worries and remaining 25% are a-holes living off people's worst fears.

  • + 26
Apart from the fact that immigrants most often take jobs that inhabitants are too lazy to take, there is only one thing to say to people complaining on losing job, by Chris Rock: if someone comes to your country with only a suitcase, without knowing anyone, not speaking the language and gets your job then you suck! You deserve to lose your job!
  • + 9
Same here in EastGermany, people ranting about the Polish and Romanian workers, and angry about Syrian and Eritrean refugees in their villages. Fear of getting outnumbered, when 40 refugees come into a village of 1500, and the Nazis from around 500km come to set their house on fire. Fear of losing a job, that they have lost already years before when the jobs went to China..

If groups of the Muslim faith weren't beheading Christians due to the fact that they believe in something different than they do, people wouldn't have racial tension. But since they want to act like stone-aged a*sholes, they get labeled as such. If Christians started murdering people left and right (yes, I remember the old days) they would be under the same scrutiny. Color me as you will but I understand that it is a smaller percentage of the worlds Muslim population who are active in terror activities, yet we all know it only takes one a*shole to ruin it for everyone. Why most hikers and horse riders hate mountain bikers? Because a few Strava fanatics acted like a*sholes, now every time they see wheels coming down the trail they immediately have a biased opinion. Its not too hard to figure out. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little racist from time to time, but hey I never said I was perfect. Its not because of what they look like or what they believe in, its their actions that ultimately dictate how I feel about people. Bikes are rad, people suck, tomorrow will be a new day. Go ride.

And you know what is the funniest bit? It is ok to kill a few children, bomb some pharmaceutical facility, the only provider of drugs and medicines in 500 miles, because they are not civilized. They are just brown people, supposedly killing each other like pigs, because that's what all News Channels tell us. News Channels don't go to Middel East to see schools, to see playgrounds, kids playing ball, guys having a chat, repairing a motorbike, having a family dinner, son arguing with his mother, old man walking a dog - no - they go there to see and report blood, destruction and woman discirmination, and you munch that one sided, often distorted vision of reality building your idea on those people, and as you see, you have no other choice. You'd have to go there. So they give you all the worst bits and then they put themselves in the position of experts on human rights. Most importantly it is ok to kill them brown people, because they are Muslims. That doesn't even come from Christians, such stuff comes from the most vicious critics of religion, atheist evangelists and self proclaimed moral leaders of new order like Sam Harris. It is ok to kill people in Middle East and Africa because they are not civilized, they are Muslims and they have poor weapons, then we go out on the streets and say that Muslims immigrantsa re dangerous, and for that reason if the world of righteousness that so many fkd up Westeners believe in actualy existed, those immigrants would have full right to chop our heads using bucksaw. Humility is the utmost virtue

Well what I find funny is how pinkbike "political" arguments, especially in this case think it's about "left vs right" when literally the only thing that determines where you lie on the left/right politics spectrum is economics. Things like personal freedom, non-interventionist policies lie on the north/south portion of the political spectrum. There are plenty of "right wingers" who disagree with foreign intervention and restricted immigration policies (in fact if you look at the economies of countries who allow pretty unregulated immigration, you see they get a large boost in their GDP as a direct result of foreign workers).

That being said I agree with the majority of what is being said here. I am an leftist myself (a real leftist, not an American leftist haha), I just think people should look past the whole crazy "Right Wing Racists!" And focus on the real problems, which is the alienation of a culture just because they are "different, or "they take or jobs!" Don't forget the Nazis were National "Socialists" Wink

Also, to those who think immigrants "take our jobs!" Should also remember that these people are most likely filling unskilled work positions, so if you outed by them you're not very skilled are you? Smile

What I see in the comments is lots of mention of religion, class, economics, immigration and race. Four of these are undisputably division techniques, in that they can be used to separate people, communities and countries.
Ask yourself this.. In what we accept as a largely corporate and state controlled world, is it a coincidence that people's minds can be changed quickly to both new products/trends and also external threats, yet largely people stay in a stagnant mindset regarding government, it's role and its necessity?
And is it the first imperative of an establishment, to maintain said establishment? Anything else, would be 'suicide' wouldn't it? In the case of the documentary 'the corporation' they show the corporation to be an entity that behaves like a human without responsiblity. They actually diagnose it as socio/psychopathic in its behaviour. And certainly the ramifications of the soulless fictitious 'corps(e)' etymology go some way to suggest this also. But either way, is it going to aim to destroy itself? Just asking.

Does this mean I can enjoy the trappings of a capitalist society while at the same time being tollerant of others. Or should I be angry at foreigners who strive for a better life or when that is safer for their families.
The world is getting smaller I think. It's so easy for us to hear about the worst people do.
Our media is just a big furnace for scandal prejudice and horror. It needs feeding constantly and we believe the things we see.
Does this make the things we see right?

@beneli, i'm right here in austria, please don't tell lies. The commiter of that horrible crime is austrian citizen and there was no religious background whatsoever. He was "just" mentally ill. Only the boulevard "assumed" in the beginning (where nobody knew anything) that a *insert sensational background of your liking* can't be ruled out, which was then used by right wing racist parties (the ones that you seem to like) as propaganda. Which, in my opinion, is almost as horrible as the crime itself, if you think about it!!. And please think for yourself before (re)posting racist propaganda! thank you.

I do see what you're saying badger but it's interesting you mentioned a workplace to describe the tolerance after I'd suggested it's just increasingly efficient business systems. London is also about the most surveilled place on earth. So to me it looks like synthetic calm and tolerance, only surface deep.

 @iluvriding

By that, do you mean the massive arms manufacturing? Or the more grass roots cost to society when engineering a 'perfect state'? as they're trying in Sweden.
  • + 0
@tobiusmaximum I meant the Sweedish so called "exclusion areas" alias ghettos. Mainly populated by immigrants.
And I have no idea how to sort it out. But it is not my problem.
  • + 4
@Iluvriding @beneli So you mean that in districts with majority of non-native Swedish citizens, immigrant crime rates are higher than somewhere else? You no saaay. Now Sweden is a state of great welfare attracting immigrants much more than Slovakia with much larger non-scandinavian population than Slovakia or Poland, so your problem simply does not exist. As to rapes you have to be kidding me, first off you are a man... but if you are worried about your daughter then you may want to take a look into trafficking - women from "Eastern block", Russia in particular, Slovakia included, are by a vast percentage the most often kidnapped women on Earth, not only in European scale. Who is interested in those girls? Western white men, with Germany and Scandinavia being at the forefront, those people you consider as role models

Sweden is also at the forefront of being blindly promoting tolerance at all costs, as the number 1 country giving refugee status and asyl. However blind tolerance and shutting everyone up (as you assume I am doing) cannot sustain itself forever. Like one very smart journalist said: one can count on Sweden when seeking refuge to receive temporal shelter and opportunity of finding welfare, but that does not mean that immigrant can expect lifetime financial support. Sweden will eat racist sht if they don't answer the question like maximum immigrant threshold and how far we are from it.

Having spent a lot of time with immigrants of all ages from all parts of the world I can say that there is no pattern what so ever, just like us Westeners there are smart and dumb people, hard workers and lazy basterds. I have met two incredible intelligent guys from Afghanistan and three absolutely devastated women from Kenya, one with cigarette burns all over her body, they were absolutely unable to perform any sort of job directly, as they have never ever done any kind of work, they would need training and psychological help to even clean the dishes. I let anti-immigrant authorities to decide whether individuals like them should be deceased. I also met particularly dumb men from Holland, Germany, US, oh and the New Zealand guy...

WAKIdesigns don't look at numbers, look at crime rates. According to this article, 5% Muslim pop. commit nearly 77.6% of all rape crimes in Sweden:
themuslimissue.wordpress.com/2012/08/20/the-living-hell-for-swedish-women-5-muslims-commit-nearly-77-6-of-all-rape-crimes

According to another article, in the latest available year foreign nationals constituted 6% of the Swedish population and 29% of the prison population. Foreigners are thus 6.2 times as likely to be incarcerated than Swedes, or 520% higher incarceration rate.
The over-representation is even higher for middle eastern citizens, who are 6.6 as likely as Swedish citizens to be in prison.
Lastly African citizens are 10.9 times as likely as Swedish citizens to be in prison.
Swedish citizens have an incarceration rate of 45 per 100.000.
African citizens in Sweden in contrast have an incarceration rate of 490 per 100.000.
super-economy.blogspot.ie/2010/04/immigrant-crime-in-sweden.html

Sweden is a perfect example of everything that's wrong with multiculturalism in Europe.
  • + 1
Well if you read closely you would find that those crime rates are pretty typical for socioeconomic state of relative poverty rather than nation of origin. Furthermore these are commited mostly by people that were not born in Sweden, the crime rate drops by over a double for kids of immigrants born in Sweden. So... when shall we kill all those useless air wasters, that is unemployed and homeless?

I live here and see what is happening so stop talking sht out of your arse (or FB groups), sitting on your couch. BTW your last sentence - does it come from that retarded TV documentary made in United States? I feel much safer in the immigrant dominated area in Gothenburg, than when walking around residential area filled with unemployed and football fans in Krakow, Poland. I'd rather ride my bike around Romanian Ghetto next to dirt jumps we have here than walk by a dodgy disco club in my home town in Poland. My colleague at work, a 30 year old girl, has been hit in the face and robbed by Swedish boys, just under her home. There's been sht loads of cars burned in two poorest districts, my friend lost two cars! Turns out, in most cases it's been bored Swedish teenagers.

@beneli I'm french so I can talk you about these "hundreds no go zones".

First of all, these so called nogo zone are way less numerous than hundreds ; there is probably like 20 zones where is kinda sketchy to go if you are white or from a rival zone. In general you can go everywhere because your are a potential drug consumer so your good for business.

Second, these zones are in poor neighbourhood. The real equation isn't : black (or muslim or idk what you hate) = crime ; the real equation is : poverty = crime. If poor neighbourhood were like 50% black, 50% white , the crime rate would be 50%B 50%W.

Oh and one more (fun) fact : I have been aggressed only once. The guy was white.

You see these stories popping up on Facebook where someone has quite literally rehashed an old story and images to incite some hatred re using old images with new stories. It happens a lot. Makes you wonder where it all comes from

WAKIdesigns where you live is irrelevant, numbers don't lie and I don't have to be in Sweden to divide or compare them. Also I don't know why you compare immigrant ghettos with Poland, compare them with the rest of Sweden (before the whole Sweden becomes one large immigrant ghetto).
When it comes to poverty, it's just an excuse of people who are afraid to open their eyes and call things their real names. When my grandparents were young, they lived in much worse poverty than those Africans in Sweden and they don't remember people mugging and raping each other. Even now there are much poorer countries than Sweden and they have lower crime rates. Not to mention that the motive for a rape has nothing to do with poverty, I could understand if people steal things because they can't afford them but I don't think there are people who can't afford to have normal sex.

This is meant to be a BIKE site but now that politics has been brought up let me tell you how it ACTUALLY is. 1) Capitalism is unsustainable and only works by exploiting others 2) If you live in a country where people perceive immigration to be a problem it is because your country is better off than others, AT THEIR EXPENSE 3) People want to move to your country to have the life you take for granted because they deserve it JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO and you have NO right to deny it to them 5) If you aren't happy with this attack the people who ARE to blame and who cause this inequality, NOT the victims of this crap.

If you disagree, you are ignorant and wrong; read some Chomsky, Harvey and Klein. Multiculturalism is the best thing about my country, I truly pity anyone who doesn't appreciate the value of other people and cultures. Troll all you like, I won't read anymore comments on this issue.

@blahblahbikes Speak for yourself. Unlike you (assuming you are English) we, the people of our country have never exploited any other nation or land (ok, in modern history). We were by no means imperialists. We had no colonies. And we certainly do not have any responsibility for the situation in the Middle East and Africa. For generations we have strived for a peaceful environment and we are actually quite successful. We have built are own country with our own hands. And by the way, multiculturalism is not traditional in our lands and quite clearly we perceive it does cause trouble. Not to mention that we already have problems with integrating the Roma population (more than two generations of immigrants mainly from Romania and Hungary, often living in ghettoes and unemployed) and the Vietnamese (a very closed community well known for drugs trafficking and production). Personally I am not attacking anybody. But I am just saying NO to somebody who is illegal in my homeland. And I am by no means racist. E.g. I like ALL foreign guests and visitors of my home, but does not mean that I would like to host them (and their descendants) for the rest of my lifetime and all future generations (because I do not believe in temporary asylum...as they get jobs, have children marry etc.).

Bla bla bla. The simple fact is that all of the Western World is founded on oil, food production, raw material extraction, transportation, packaging of everything, most toys. Virtual Oil is present in everything you see. That oil comes in vast majority from middle East which has been consequently destabilized by Western countries in order to get cheap source of it, every country benefits from middle east situation. We kicked middle East into middle ages at expense of quality of life of people living there. Exactly same but much more gruesome situation happened in Africa in the quest for raw materials and Europe is primarily guilty of it. Just like the case of Somali fishermen whose waters were fished out by European vessels, just as we now do fish out Cabo Verde, and feed their food to the Salmon in Norwegian Fjords. Don't wash your hands out of it Beneli. So I'm sorry but we owe it to those people, no matter what they do. Such shortsightedness requires a lot of tolerance
  • + 1
@WAKIdesigns Wrong again! The oil in our land (and the rest of Eastern Europe) comes almost exclusively from Russia. And yes, we need it. So? Welcome immigrants? This is a huge logical shortcut I cannot agree with. What I do agree with, is that a lot of people working in manufactures all around the world (especially in Asia) are exploited. And yes it is the dark side of globalisation. But it has very little to do with the problem discussed here.

Sometimes I get a feeling in the gut when thinking of children inflicted by war, and sorry it's the ones in Middle East I think most often of... it's like being sorry for a bully that broke a finger. You have surplus, then eat everything that comes with it baby. Grow up if you think that you are going to roll with your foreign policy (particularly one with South America) and it's going to be all fun and no pain forever. Regardless of what all bigots say, in coming decades Sweden is THE best place on Earth to have a family. 450 days of paid parental leave freely divided by parents for 80% of salary untl kid gets 8, one of best public healthcare systems out there, lots of tolerance, it is ok to look and behave like a retard, hence we have so many hipsters. 2 month holidays for most employees, in many cases taken whenever you want them. You have a right to take a leave to take care of your sick kid whenever you want. No religious fundamentalism even on European scale, none of that catholic nonsense like in Poland or Spain. No CCTV, work unions protecting employees. When you lose job you get insurance paying 80% of your former salary for a year. You earn sht loads compared to most of the world, we have the best Passport on the planet. There are very few more places in the world with so much freedom of doing anything. So I guess some bastards are really envious and seek stains like immigrantion policy. Sorry, enjoy your cancer btchs, We have it WAAAY better over here. We even have Hafjell bike park 6h away.

Your worldview is so f*cking confused its mind blowing, but in an attempt to understand better, I have come up with a question for you.

Why, in your head, is someone from south of the Rio Grande less entitled to welfare food and housing, while someone from north of the Rio Grande is?

I mean, Mexico is closer to Cali than New York, yet immigrants from New York are entitled, so it cant be a distance thing. Someone of non American-Indian descent can be entitled, so it can't be a where they originate from thing, so what is it?

I really dont give a rats ass about about the rest of what is going on in the world. It is what it is. In the end there is not much any of us can do about the state of the world. But we can have healthy conversations about it and learn a little about someone else's opinions and there thoughts and way of life. Will I think and see things the same as some of you?
No I won't maybe if I lived next to you we would think more alike.

Yeah, but the point I'm trying to make is why does someone from across whatever border have to be an upstanding citizen, while someone born north of the river can just freeload? I don't understand this. I mean both guys are just trying to feed their kids and all that, just the guy from north of the river has a much easier time of it. His kids get fed, because he was lucky enough to be born on the right bit of dirt. So the other guy trys to make a go of it, come over here and feed his kids, and gets called a money grabbing immigrant (or worse). Makes no sense to me.

Also, thankyou for the friendly reply.

Well, one could argue that the USA economy is fueled by the illegal immigrant, they do most of the hard work in the agricultural field, collecting way below legal minimum wage and thus keeping food cost on the low side, and literally putting food on your tables, yet a vast majority of the right-american-wing wants to kick those people out no matter what. I'm just stating a fact, not saying it as something negative. And I say this as a person who owns a couple condos in FL and lives in south america without many concerns. Although the immigration/racial issue, I feel is fundamentally different than in the US, in the US seems to be more plainly a skin color issue, regardless of right or left wing, in EU seems to me is more about a Nazi reinassance of some sort where right wing, ultraconservative, middle to working class, national socialism thing, where there are (mostly) white politicians that come from the middle class, spreading a xenophobic message, backed by skinhead supporters waving swastika flags. Now, this is something I witnessed while vacationing through france, a lot of demonstrations that seemed to have this caracteristics, but I've read about riots in Sweden resulting from such demonstrations and people opposing such a blatant spread of hate. And it's catching on all over EU, Scandinavia, Greece, Fance, Russia and eastern europe. My view on this is that if immigration laws worked better, in general (meaning most of the world) the immigrants, things would be better for both immigrants and locals, but politicians noticed there is a buck to be made by spreading hateful, xenophobic messages, and sheeps ready to do their dirty work for them. Those who saw American History X know what I'm talking about. Also eastern europeans, not long ago, where migrating a lot, to a lot of countries, and most of those countries took them in with open arms, including my country, and seems just wrong to close the doors of your country, when others took you in, and gave you the oportunity at a better life.
  • + 1
The thing americans don't get IMHO is that politicians will never really kick illegal immigrants out, because it keeps prices down. Also, they get paid in cash cuz legally the patron can't hire them, yet he does, it's not their fault, I'm sure they much rather pay taxes and recive legal wages. Also it is proven in many studies, conducted by americans, that legal american citizen are not willing to do most of the jobs that illegal immigrants do, and those that do, most of the immigrants do them better cuz they have to work harder.

This is my question really. Why favour your countrymen? What have they done to deserve your favour apart from be born into the same level of privilige as you. Not like the unlucky f*cker born in Mexico, half a mile from the Texas border, who has to live his life in relative poverty, with poor diet and education.

Some of your countrymen are cool, some are total bastards. Some Americans (Donald Trump for example) steal a lot more money from you and your kids by avoiding taxes/keeping money in offshore accounts in a day, than 10 mexicans could in a lifetime. So which do you favour?

If you saw Trump crash his Bentley into a Mexican mowing the verge on the highway and they both needed an ambulance, who should the ambulance treat first, the American who has literally stolen billions from you, or the illegal immigrant who sent $100 home to his kids so they can go to school?

Illegal immigrants cost taxpayer more than £4,000 a head each year

The government's controversial "Go Home" advertising vans targeted illegal immigrants earlier this year

A Home Office report reveals illegal immigrants cost the public purse up to £4,250 and disclosed the controversial 'Go Home' ad vans were more successful than previously thought

Every illegal immigrant in Britain costs the taxpayer up to £4,250 a year in costs for public services such as the NHS and education, according to a new official report.

It means the total cost to the public purse could be up to £3.7 billion a year, based on previous estimates which said there were as many as 860,000 illegal immigrants in the country.

The figure emerged in an official Home Office document which showed the Government’s controversial “Go Home” advertising campaign - which included ad vans touring the streets of multicultural areas - saved the taxpayer up to £830,000.

Mark Harper, the immigration minister, disclosed the campaign was far more successful in persuading illegal immigrants to leave Britain than previously disclosed.

He said 125 illegal immigrants came forward after seeing the publicity, of whom 60 have already left the country.

Operation Vaken, which took place between July 22 and August 22 in six London boroughs, saw mobile billboards take to the streets emblazoned with the slogan “Go home or face arrest”.

People in Malmö? Future? We have an office in Malmö, I helped drawing up detailed plan for a huge district in Malmö, I worked with Urban safety issues there, no mention of immigrant risk assessment. You do know that Swedes are obsessed with safety don't you? I took part in designing over 800 apartments, all being a non-gated community areas, despite 150 of them being posh apartments right next to the Rosengård district, stigmatized for being a poor district. Do you have any idea how much money is spent on expertize for social integration? That Swden is a leading country in research for social sustainability? My wife has just delivered a PhD in social impact assessment for urban planning and design. She took part in a process of increasing standard of urban qualities in poor district Tynnered in Gothenburg where world famous architects were drawing up plans for housing models how to bring richer Swedes to live in so-called Ghettos which are far from anything you see in Eastern Block. My office Kanozi is working on similar issue for another stigmatized area Bergsjön. As you see there are other solutions to deal with the situation than being an a-hole puppet on the street. So Don't tell me about the future darling. We don't build fences, we build mechanisms of softening hardened brain tissue for assimilation. You are out of your element.

The problem you guys have quoting news papers is that they are generally extremely biased and tend to report opinion rather than objective well balanced facts.
As a friend of mine once said you can prove anything with facts.
We could ( and have ) bang on all day about the rights and wrongs of immigration.
But the facts are.
As relatively prosperous countries we have a moral duty to help other human beings in distress.
As a member state of the EU Slovakia is bound to honour it's European commitments. If it feels it shouldn't take in asylum seeker as its duty bound to perhaps they should just leave the EU and just manage on their own.
And finally none of use are ever going to agree.

Im not just picking on the US. I lived in Texas for many years, and I love the place.

Thing is, if Abdul who runs the corner shop down the road is costing £4000 a year, how much of that comes out of my pocket? There are 64 million ppl in the UK, which means Abdul has cost me personally 0.00006p this year. I aint complaining, he gave me 5p off a pack of cigs the other day, so I'm actually up 4.99994 pence on the whole deal. Not Bad.

If Ronald Plump the UK multi-multi-billionaire has all his money stashed away in secret offshore accounts, lets say he has avoided £42000000 in taxes this year. This means he owes me personally about 70 pence. The shit. He never gave me money off anything, and he's not even sending the money home to put his kids through school, he just spends it all on Ferrarris and hookers.

So yeah, I understand you are just looking out for your kids, but just have a think about who is really stealing from you and your kids. The Mexican mowing the verge on the street you live on, or the rich f*cker who owns your street?

As soon as there is any problem in Scandinavia we have a prime geographical location to keep people out. You can'teven land a boat with refugees in a safe way on 90% of the coast line. Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary will always be fkd because they are a buffer zone so Islam is least of a problem. Talk to your parents, they will fresh up your mind, between losing sht jobs to immigrants and getting either run over barbarious Russian army tanks or getting "made in US" Nuke on your head. How about another Euro currency crisis? That is much more effective in stripping people from jobs, thus increasing poverty and crime rates, than all Muslims combined. How did you like Hungarian crisis from not so long ago? No Muslims involved. I see no anti-capitalist protests and riots in Europe. Your perspective on life and what is going on in your region must be extremely limited if you are concerned about threats of Islamization. Talk to Ukrainians what is the biggest threat to the Europe. Germany, France and UK can break you like a match, then bail you out like Greece and turn you into an economical slaves in the same way that US treats most countries in South America

Well first of all I'm not a 12 year old kid, I lived in 7 countries / 3 continents spread over 13 years, I have arab/muslim friends from about dozen countries with whom I shared classrooms, rooms in dormitories and flats. You can add up at least another dozen cultures I got to know very closely. I have a view from miles way up on the whole political happening, so please don't call me darling and stop acting as if you were the know it all god. I don't care what projects you have behind you and I'm not going to brag with those of mine. From the way you speak about Sweden, it's way and issues I can sence you are influenced by your deeds (help projects) and all that crap SDP party is pushing towards and will do anything to stay in power. Check out and accept the dark side of it, don't just protect what you think is the best way of structure. I know very closely the dark side of multiculti in NL and BE, and if you later see those kids you went to highschool with shouting and holding banners about destruction of our cultures and joing those brainwashed idiots than you will probably think twice. But I see your main interest is the bright picture of helping each other and that the bubble will never burst, but that is NOT THE REALITY, SO WAKE UP SHEEP. And yes we never fought, we (SK) were always ruled by others and yet we survived and kep our identity and finaly created a country just a dacade ago....we just keep on defending we are tired from constantly defending this small population, you might start to hear the bell ringing? Moreover the protest was not solely anti islam, but as you mentioned anti-government and anti-capitalist. Shame that the main stream were skins and hooligans, that is why there were only over 6k people. Many people would never walk by their side and yet many many share the same interest at the moment. Sweden is Sweden, UK is UK and Slovakia is Slovakia, can't compare them never. Let anyone come and we will show you how to survive and remain our idintities, WE JUST WANT PEACE and we are tyred of the threats. This is purely a reaction. If we should not fear those threats...ok, but we are alergic to any.

I want to ride my bike instead of writing this....

alifhar - I am more than aware of green-leftist bullsht in Sweden, I actually feel blackmailed and socialy threatened to be tolerant, to live environmentaly friendly and healthy sht. I said it in the very beginning (I don't expect you to read it for Gods sake) that current main problem of many Euro governments, Sweden at the top of the list, is to answer people's fears. Those fears are in most cases irrational BUT they are there and they are real (looking at results of SD party), therefore they have to be adressed. And the way it should be done in my opinion is present a full palette of facts. Right now everyone is pretending that we are all good we should just all love each other. I have NO emotional connection with poor immigrants, even if so I feel sorry for them, mostly their kids - all I want to know is, how many is too many and where are we at this point. From there we can talk policies.

As to threats and fears, I see many more things that may mess up my life than immigrants. Like Katla volcano on Iceland, which can erupt anytime and put down 3/4 of agriculture in Europe. Then we will have to turn to Africa and Asia to feed us. Irony is a btch!

God bless Knedliky s Gulaszou i Zlaty Bazant...

An american would sue the shit out of Donald Trump if said person was hit by Mr. Trump's car, and would probably get more money from him, and be rich exactly the same way as the illegal immigrant.. cuz people are people and we just want what's best for us, wheter you are a citizen or an immigrant. I don't think it's american citizenz fault either, they're constantly lied to by politicians and unfortunately people still believe in politicians, americans, slovaks, brits, venezuelans, argentinians, jamaicans, everybody.. and they just exploit people's insecurities to get a buck out of it.

alifhar - people on streets don't have much influence, watch Egypt, Tunisia, Ukraine, Occupy Wallstreet, Woodstock. They overthrow a government but the underlying fabric prevails and it takes not more than a few months to get things back in normal, just under disguise. There's to happen tons of circumstances over many years for a change to come. Revolutions work when system is artificially imposing certain structure (Yugoslavia, East/West Germany, Czechoslovakia) but when main structure is cemented there since ages, it is the revolution that acts as an alien force. So in most cases, people walking out to the streets do nothing but trouble because crowd is easily manipulated and we get situations like last years Independence Day in Poland where nationalist groups started rioting and among many retarded actions, they burned Polish flag...

 Re: Revolutions

revolution
rɛvəˈluːʃ(ə)n/
noun
1.
a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favour of a new system.
"the country has had a socialist revolution"
2.
an instance of revolving.
"one revolution a second"

Personally I'm more interested in the fact revolutions never really seem to do anything much and the second meaning of the word is to go round and round.

There are concepts in psychology saying that free will is extremely limited, we are preconditioned to certain behaviors. It does not mean that we can't do anything, it just means that even given same environment one person can become DH World Champion while the other will never get there due to different genetically determined motivations and ability to recognize and take opportunities. Some people chose to not use free wheel at all and they have a very narrow grip on reality.
  • + 0
Yup, I'm aware of that. Revolutions as such in SK and CZ are rare, this one was anti governmental as well, and it was just good to see some people in the streets in different type of event then sympathy to some dead nazi idiot and punks on the other side. (In general Czechs and Slovaks are lax and just wait what will happen due to the history / this is changing now.) There were many nazis as well but this time there was underground present too which you won't see in the streets, like never. These people do have influence and the message to government was clear by their presence. I know that no big changes will happen, but some will change their apporach. Remember we are population of only 5.5 mil, so we are a big willage with larger teritory than NL having less than one third of population. The obvious corruption must be tamed at first. An example; Prior to this event there was pro-imigration one where an active polititian on camera said, 'so what we take few hundred/thousand imigrants and we get 20 mil Euro's...' this is their current approach, not thinking about peoples needs, opinion, nothing. Just how to fill their pockets. We could rate it as a multi protest.

Timing of the downhill event was quite unfortunate. These days the city was venue of Globsec, a prestigious strategic conference with attendance of several world leaders (Cameron, McCain, Hollande... just to mention some). In addition (or reaction?) to that few weeks ago they announced that anti-islamic/anti-immigrants march which gained attention of skins, neo-nazis, nationalists, football hooligans and other similar groups from the whole region. But I do not want to blame organizers of the downhill event as it must be quite impossible to change date of such event when everything is already arranged, I just want to say that it is a bad coincidence when such events occur in a relatively small city at the same time. In the end it is huge shame for this city/country Frown

  • + 10

  • + 29
Very typical of these groups. They're mainly just old school soccer hooligans pretending that they have a legitimate political agenda.

Hiding behind a cause of one leader that actually has a couple of working brain cells enough to speak his racist blame game

There was a funny one in the north of England a while back where 3 groups, the bnp, edl an nf turned up for a "protest". Because no groups turned up for an anti protest.... They just fought amongst themselves. The nf fought the edl while the bnp hid in a car park

It didn't mention muslims but the rioters came from the anti-muslim protest which was happening in the city.

The point is that the rioters are supposedly using hate and fear of Muslims as an excuse to just go out and relive those soccer hooligan days by smashing up a DH race that has nothing to do with politics, race or religion This Just proves that they are thugs with NO reason, NO politics , NO agenda Just ignorance

I am from slovakia and I was there,no one was seriously injured, luckily. Masked nazis were throwing rock cubes from pavements ,in fact everthing that could be thrown was thrown, and they were using pyrotechnics against random people and event fans,so we ran away and hid in the city streets. The organizers tried to continue the race but due to uncertain safety they decided to cancel the whole event. It is a shame, unfortunately on the same date there was a big prostest angainst imigrants and these nazis came only to provoke and fight on the streets.I feel sorry for the image, that slovakia now must have in your eyes, once again I feel ashamed, sorry !
  • + 3
You shouldn't be ashamed for the actions of other people. And you can find people like these in almost every country all over the world.
  • + 2
You are right Wink But I feel really sorry for the organizers, who put a lot of energy into the project, for people who travelled distances to compete in race or see the race, and for people who had to see this all live on TV or experience it right in the town.  Football games here in the UK are subject to quite heavy police presence (when there is significant risk) which has made it harder for hooligan thugs to cause problems at the games. As a result they moved on to causing problems at English Defence League rallies as, to begin with, there was less of a police presence and they had a few 'good' days out. These now attract a significant amount of police attention here in the UK, to the extent that most places of protest can get on with daily life in the background.
Ignoring the politics (everyone has a right to free speech and protest here, within reason) it tends to be a bit of an excuse for groups of like minded idiots to get drunk and cause trouble.

Oh, and for the record, they are all bigoted idiots who are quite wrong... I agree that the parallels between 1930's Germany and the current state of Europe is quite frightening, and hope that the common sense of the many will defeat the scapegoating and scaremongering of a disillusioned few...

Try telling the families of the thousands of murder men, women and children of the 9/11 attacks. The people that have died and are sick and dying years after from related illnesses that Muslimims are good people. How soon people forget or don't care because it wasn't in my backyard and didn't know anyone affected by it. Well it happened in my backyard, I knew people lost in the initial attacks, years following the attacks from related illnesses and currently still affected from the attacks.
I am sorry if you people can't understand the animosity towards Muslims.
Now does that make the hatred right,'no it does not. Look at the Spanish Catholics that killed during the inquisition, the Romans that killed Christians, the Puritans that killed in Europe and the U.S. claiming that certain people were witches. How about the British, Spanish and Dutch that killed whole tribes of indigenous people in the Americas and stole people from their homelands to be slaves? I could go on and on about atrocities committed by people of all races, religions and ethnic groups. There are fanatics everywhere. With the logic some of these people have no one in the world should get along. This does not let us move forward it dooms us to repeat mistakes of the past. I am not saying to forget these things happened because that also will cause mistakes of the past to be repeated.
Remember, learn, educate and move forward.
Now immigration has been happening for millions of years that's how this planet got so populated. Do you think anti immigrant sentiments are new? The difference between say turn of the century and now is that people that made the money spent it where they were. This actually helped boost the economy. Now the money that is being made is all exported having only negative effects on the host country.
While everyone is pointing fingers, point them towards the big companies that move their manufacturing and now I.T. to other countries to save money. Blame car makers for moving plants to Mexico, blame Doc Marten, Adidas, Puma, Nike for moving manufacturing to Taiwan and China. Blame Disney for making their products in China.
It's not immigrant just to blame it is your huge corporations that make the products you love that are taking your jobs.
The point of all this? Break down the wallls, hug it out and go ride our damn bikes.
