Tippie is without a doubt the best person in mountain biking. His boundless enthusiasm for the sport totally encapsulates the reason why I love mountain biking.
I would like to see Tippie interview Kimi Raikonen or any other Finish driver. Yes, no, yes, eee no, yes, yes, it was good, no, why? no, I didn't like it, no, no, yes, no let me think about it... no
Wow! That looked like a great trip. But it must have been a logistic nightmare, so where is the picture of Chinook helicopter loaded with 20 men strong service crew and 16 tons of replacement parts for EVERYTHING, mainly pedal rebuild kits? I call it biased journalism
In your scenario FuzzyL, the riders given 3-4 sets of personalized pedals each to carry in back packs while a 4x car was driving behind them with wheelsets, like Mavic car does on Tour De France. Surely, they have been also busy sandpapering Thomson and Fox Racing Shox logos from dropper posts and laser etching CB logo on them. Unless off course, they were just riding Kronologs slammed down all the time, just in case
my mallets have lasted 3+ years, and on second bike. No issues w/wheelset after 7months. But then I drive a ford focus st so I'm not one to dwell on te past, but enjoy the here and now.
Just for the record, I am talking out of my arse, I am just having dumb fun, doing retarded "breaks like a Kona" humor. But there is no smoke without fire... Kona and Marzocchi put it down few years ago, time for CB...
From my personal experience of owning a pair of CrankBrothers Opium 3 wheels since April 2012, they're a great set of wheels, lasted me many seasons riding various bikeparks around the world with only ever having to replace one rim for the rear wheel. HOWEVER if you live outside of America, the UK or if you don't have industry links/sponsorship, it seems the support for them once you need replacement parts & servicing is close to non existent.
Sad really, the UST & design simplicity have alot going for the wheelset. But seems like a pointless wheelset to have if support is not available worldwide with parts easily to get hold of.
Don't understand why they can't give their spares to ChainReaction, Jenson USA, Wiggle, etc so customers worldwide who already spent shedloads on these damn wheels in the first place can go online and order what they need to their front door. It's not hard is it?!...year 2015! But noooo, CrankBrothers want you to send them off to get repaired or send them emails, find a LBS that deals with Crankbrothers then faff around with distributors untill the supplies eventually turn up. Ridiculous. So as of this year I now have this wheelset collecting dust as I've totally given up with the run around trying to get them rebuilt.
I live in Laguna and been riding CB wheels for years and more recently their pedals thinking "if anything goes wrong they are right down the street" but honestly I've only been in there maybe 1 time in 5 years for service.
Right on Crank Brothers! Been riding their Eggbeaters and Acids for years, just got a set of 50/50s. Wish is was closer to Mammoth so I could visit after MTB Nationals!
Yeah, I'm really struggling with myself. In theory CB HAS to be cool now, but history shows they are not.
On the other hand it's still Cedric, Hans, Anneke, Richie and Tippie...I hope they made them fix their reliabilty issues!
Use to ride Laguna when I was in Newport Beach, and while living in Moab, we did porcupine rim with Tippie and had a blast. Fun guy to hang with for sure.
"ENDURO pedal", of course. Well, we kinda saw that coming. Why don't we just outhouse all the stuff that's enduro related? Pinkenduro.com, InterEnduro in Vegas, so on.... That way, those of us that aren't obsessed with the mighty, mighty enduro or think that there's still plenty of other bike types worth looking at, can roam pinkbike like we used to, while the enduro faction can create their own specific scene. #enduroobsession
Whats the technique for skids Cedric does at 4:30 and throughout? I am assuming he does those without using the rear brake. Every time I try to whip my rear wheel like that, it barely even moves to the side due to traction?
Blah, blah, blah ....... has anyone commenting here ever used CB pedals? I've got them on all my bikes, use them all year round in the pissing Vancouver rain and have no issues with strength and relability. I ask you this CB haters .......... why are you using a set of Shimano DX/XT/XTR pedal's with zero grip when you could have a set of CB Mallets with all the grip of flat pedals and all the benefits of cleats?
Duh shimano pedals blow, try some VP VX adventures. Adjustability of the SPD but with a platform where it matters, in the rear.
You don't need platform in the front with clipless like the mallets, extra weight for no reason not to mention their durability is garbage
It's one of the most traffic congested places in orange county, far from chill but there are some fun trails there to ride, just avoid driving into town!
Shuttle trucks including the CB FJ and many other MtB industry vehicles drive past my place of employment in LB every day. Yay me! It's an interesting town, that's for sure. Great mt. biking, but most of the goods are, let's just say, off menu.
Snow summit isn't too monochrome, but it is in a slightly more diverse area of the country. But no matter the area I've always found mtn bikers to be super friendly and non judgmental. And many pros who you run into on the trails are very approachable. Of course I've run into my fair share of riders pretending you don't exist but they seem busy and in a rush so I don't bother.
But then I drive a ford focus st so I'm not one to dwell on te past, but enjoy the here and now.
