DH Fantasy League: Last Chance to Change Your Team Ahead of the Maribor World Cup DH 2020

Oct 15, 2020 at 16:41
by Pinkbike Staff

We've had two rounds of Fantasy DH Trivia and a first taste of live downhill racing in Leogang, Austria at the World Championships. Now, it's time for the first World Cup double header of the season. Please note that you will NOT be able to change your team in between the first race and the second race, so choose wisely!

We hope you're doing well after the first rounds, but even if you didn't, it's still worth playing since there are some great prizes on offer at each round. Also, you wouldn't believe how far back some of our overall winners have come from in the past years and everything is up in the air with the points from two races being tabulated on Monday. As we saw in Leogang, anything can happen, and every point is worthwhile if you want to win an all-new Project One Trek Slash with SRAM components.

Good luck!

After qualifying?! This isn’t how this game is supposed to be played, I made a good team and they qualified excellently, now everybody will probably make a similar team...
  • 14 1
Exactly. What were you thinking PB? First pinkbike academy, now this. The blunders are piling up this week.
  • 6 0
Seriously what the fuck is this
  • 3 0
I also just realized that the official rules state (Section 3b) “(“The Contest Game”) is based on the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup Race Series. The races are made up of 8 World Cup Races and 1 World Championships Race, for each postponed/cancelled race this will be a Trivia round. In the event that Race Rounds are not held during the 2020 season the Trivia will replace the League in its entirety.”

So out of 9 total races, only “5” (because double rounds) will be held, meaning we are still owed two more trivia rounds.

@JaToledo: There were alot of surprises in quali's, so this way more people can get the hot riders and have a chance. Go Reece, Matt, Daprela, and Angel!
Nobody copy my team!
  • 2 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: There are supposed to be surprises. My selected team did excellently in qualifiers, and now everybody has a chance to swap teams to match that. It's really disappointing.
  • 3 0
@FlightlessLobster: Yet qualifiers isn't the actual race...
  • 6 0
@mtbikeaddict: did we get to change our brackets last round with many injured riders dropping out due to injuries from qualifying and practice? Of course qualifiers aren't everything, but they can be a very good indicator and it takes all the fun guesswork out of it and makes everybody's brackets very similar.

also, they opened it for like 8 hours while half the world is asleep and won't even get a chance to swap after qualifiers. It's a shitty thing to do for many reasons.
  • 1 0
@FlightlessLobster: You are right! Isn't it the first time that is allowed to change your team after qualifier? Now more people will have almost the same team. It would make more sense to update your team after the first race (slightly different track and weather conditions).

But nevertheless thanks for entertaining us PB!
  • 1 0
 Exactly. This is ridiculous!
  • 1 1
Yeah calling foul on this one. This is inconsistent with the practice for all the other Fantasy rounds of all the Fantasy leagues on Pinkbike. In addition, the rosters were locked and then reopened after qualifying. All other compressed leagues this season permitted changes between the rounds even if the rounds were happening very close together (within a couple days).

C'mon Pinkbike. Give us a little consistency please and abide by the published rules..
  • 1 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: I wasn’t surprised by a single one of those, and that’s not how this is supposed to work.
  • 8 2
It’s still before the second qualifier though... I think we’ll see that anything can happen over the course of three races in as many days!
  • 1 1
@sarahmoore: I’m sorry, but that still isn’t how this was supposed to be. As for Lousa, will it be like this? With the rosters locking after first Qualifying? It should be announced ahead of time.
  • 4 0
@sarahmoore: no one is debating the “anything can happen” nature of racing. It’s not in the spirit of the contest to allow lineup changes AFTER qualifying runs. It’s like changing your bet for the winner of a match at halftime. That’s why everyone is upset. We’re all used to roster changes being locked for the duration of a race, to include qualifying.
  • 1 1
If your team did good on qualifying you probably didn't do great in the finals. Lighten up, it's just a fantasy game.
  • 1 0
I had a 900pts team and I changed it for a 730pts team when I saw the opening after qualifiers. So it is research and big luck in the end. Of course now I'm wishing I hadn't done it… nothing I can do now... there will be people like me who messed up (I was 5th in the overall)... and winners.
  • 2 1
@sarahmoore: Will rosters be unlocked prior to the second race?

NM, guess not........what a farce.
  • 1 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: 1st-4th place, all top 5 qualifiers. Probably would've swept the podium if Reece hadn't gotten injured during practice.
  • 2 1
@sarahmoore: So why punish people that do their research?
At least then unlock the rosters again until sunday morning to give an equal chance to everyone...anything else is just inconsistent nonsense.

stupid trivia and now changing the rules like this, not cool pinkbike
  • 5 0
Doesn't matter. User random_1986 will "win"
  • 14 0
Why reopen team changes after they've already done qualifying? That takes a bit of the fun out of it...
  • 6 0
Wtf? Yesterday morning I made a promising team and then a deadline appeared, how can it now be changed again? That is not fair my friends
  • 2 0
Oh no so you opened it in the middle of europe's night and now we are not even able to change it anymore? What is this? At least give us the chance to change it directly till finals, many europeans now missed out on the chance while others had the chance to change their teams. Makes no sense to me!
  • 1 0
@bashhard: seems like they opened it up again. still a strange choice.
  • 1 0
@Johanvdb: haha it's a full-time job now to follow the fantasy rounds Smile
  • 4 1
@bashhard: im on the same boat as you (you’re first I’m eleventh) and damn this one hurt. I really couldn’t have made a better team for qualifying and now everyone is gonna have the same and there is no way I’ll climb positions.

It seems like a rushed call announcing that both races will have the same team, but even that’s questionable. How can it be better to REOPEN rosters after qualifying for 8hrs instead of 24hrs between the first final and the second quali?

And where the hell are our missing trivia rounds?
  • 6 0
Is it too late to change my first round picks?
  • 3 0
How frustrating that you can’t tweak teams between finals or the first race and qualies of the second.

This will really benefit some and cripple me
  • 3 0
Sucks for everyone on my team that's going to crash out and be injured for two races instead of just one.
  • 3 0
Also the list of available racers is from last year, and doesn't necessarily reflect what's happening now.
  • 1 0
The list of racers was updated this year to include regular top 60 riders from 2019 that we were missing and prominent Junior racers that moved up to Elite for 2020. If there is anyone specific we are missing then let us know and we can look to add them in for the future.
  • 1 0
@edspratt: I would have liked to have Spela Horvat, first year womens, placed 10th as a dark horse local.
There are riders listed as injured who are clearly aren't.
Like, the idea is pure and maybe it's 2020, but the whole thing feels like an annoying side project this year.
  • 4 0
Trivia round saw me not participating and cursing quite a bit to be honest
  • 1 1
@sarahmoore I won the last round and still did not get notified.
In the rules it says, that one has to answer an email within 7 days to claim the prize.
So I'm kinda getting nervous that I will miss out because of a lost mail or something

 Changed. Dialed in.
