Despite the wealth of full-suspension bikes on the market, there's still a place in the mountain bike world for the reliable hardtail. Ghost Bikes think so too, which is why they're released the Asket hardtail. Their marketing lingo is decidedly over-the-top—apparently the bike was designed "to bestow great enlightenment on its rider," but hyperbole aside, the new models are well spec'd, and could be a solid option for a newcomer to the sport, or for riders looking for a wintertime skills builder. There are 29" and 27.5" versions, both with aluminum frames, and all models come with with wide tires, a dropper post, and a 1x drivetrain.

 If this bike could talk, what would you Asket?
  • 29 0
 Who's going to do what to whom in that last pic?
  • 29 0
 @BenPea: what the hell does he have in his butt??!!
  • 1 0
 @zede: HFS!
  • 12 2
 Will I end up needing a new Ass-kit after riding this hardtail?
  • 12 0
 @zede: It looks like a pineapple!
  • 13 2
 Mr. Bicycle, do you like metal bearings getting pressed into your holes? Or do you prefer it threaded for your pleasure?
  • 5 4
 @zede: gloves in pockets.
  • 11 0
 @trauty: I'm going with the pineapple.
  • 1 2
 That's not a pineapple, it's the poster board for the upcoming Return of Freddy Curger
  • 5 0
 @zede: Udders.
  • 25 1
 showing a littlebit of excitement, then came pressfit aaaaaand i am out!
  • 18 3
 Agreed. Press fit BBs are a literal deal breaker for me and many others. Do you hear that bike industry??? You could make an otherwise absolutely perfect bike at a great price and I will have zero interest in it for the single reason that it has a press fit BB.

 @robw515: even specialized got it right with the new enduro going back to threaded bb

 @funkzander: innovate or die

 Why do they do it?
Is it cheaper?
The only reason I'd buy one is because you can get really dope 2nd hand cranks for peanuts
because no one wants SH*TFIT BB.
  • 1 0
 @Thema: They do it because it's cheaper, allows for a wider (stiffer) BB, and because of all the warranties they get for cross threaded BBs.

 what happens when you goose a ghost? you get a handful of sheet.

 I'm a bit new at this... but do hardtails make a comeback every winter??
  • 5 1
 Come to England / another country where winter isnt particularly extreme in any way but is usually a long damp affair then you will understand, mud, mud, mud......
  • 5 0
 Seems like a dope bike, good build kits on both models and good numbers too, slack head tube, low bb, short stays, short fork. Seeing as it's Ghost, should be a good price, too!

 ...Who you gonna call?...
  • 4 0
 The red looks awesome! Can't say as much about the rancid mustard yellow...
  • 4 0
 diamondback mason bikes got you beat!
  • 3 1
 kinda different to have the 29er with the slacker head tube angle. Regardless, those geo numbers look awesome. Bummer about the PF BB

 A carbon version will be called, CAsket.
  • 2 0
 so why are they advertised with Suntours but shown in all the promo photos and vid with rockshocks...?
  • 2 0
 I'd guess because Slavik is sponsored by SRAM
  • 3 0
 @kaisa: Possibly but then isn't every potential buyer gonna want the better forks as shown in the promos...
  • 7 0
 @landscapeben: considering the Auron is a kickass fork and is a few hundred bucks cheaper.... no I'd stick with the Auron, regardless of what's in the video.
  • 3 0
 @bkm303: Never ridden it so I couldn't comment, but over this side of the pond a certain stigma surrounds Suntours as they have for the longest time been the cheapest nastiest suspension on the cheapest nastiest bikes available, usually bought from Halfords... It's only very recently that I've started hearing good things about them, whereas the pedigree that Rockshox carries would have me spending the extra... but I'm not fussed if that's just me, I'm not out to prove a point I just thought the disparity was odd.

 @landscapeben: the reputation is/was similar here, but I started hearing good things about them back in 2012 or so. They've been building momentum, and they have some WC DH, WC XC, and Rampage podiums too, on the Rux and Axon.

Sure, they make most of their money building clunky/commuter OEM stuff, but judging Suntour based on that is like judging RS based on the XC28, and 30 silver. For bikes around $1k I actually recommend those OEM suntours, as you get more value for the money than you would with RS. I've ridden the XCR-Air and it's a totally trail-worthy budget fork - smooth & super reliable, with decent adjustability. Obviously weight and damping aren't the best, but it's a low price point. Their mid/high end stuff is very competitive.

 @bkm303: Good to know Wink I remember back in the day that RST tried to make a similar play for the big time but it didn't seem to work out so well for them!

 The colors make it look like an XC bike. Nice bike none the less.

Stocked on my Norco Torrent 27.5+ bike for similar reasons.

 Ghost's 'new' Asket hardtail looks a lot like the 2017 model, and the geometry is identical. Is it the same frame or is it all in the detail (e.g tyre clearance)?
  • 1 0
 -ISCG05 mount for chainguide -one-by-only -increased tire clearance Rocket and Lector X should use 2017 Asket-frame.

 sick bikes but the aesthetics suuuuck
  • 2 0
 Is he summoning a ghost at the last picture?
  • 3 1
 Why did they post a still from a Danzig video at the end of the article?

 THEY ARE SEXY

 Can't find pricetags anywhere?
  • 1 0
 You can find em on the german version of their website.
  • 1 0
 @kaisa: Where? I couldn't find it...
  • 1 0
 I hope the headtube, top- and downtube are not askets like every other Ghost Big Grin
  • 2 1
 The pineapple stayed in all the way down the hill. Bet the BB was creaking by that point though.
  • 1 1
 Pf don't matter when you have that rei warranty just return the whole bike and get a new one!
