17 frame builders racing home hacked Klunkers over a rain and fire filled weekend in Somerset. We're finally letting you know what the fuss was all about, with some pretty dodgy rat-look Klunkers popping up all over social media recently it was clear that something awesome was going down.
An annual invitational, the Hack Bike Derby is basically an excuse for frame builders to dick about in the woods on bikes that they’ve made out of bits of scrap. This year’s theme was Klunkers so think bull moose bars, double top-tubes, and drum brakes.
Alex Rankin of Sprung and Earthed fame produced a cracking short film of the event that really captures the atmosphere of the weekend.
“It’s an opportunity for builders to make some bikes for the hell of it, to get creative in a less formal way, and most importantly have fun” - Andrew Denham, Event organiser.
MENTIONS: @BellBikeHelmets
1) Wait for the weather to really suck, heavy rain is perfect.
2)Decide where you want the track to go, draw it on paper or in your head.
3) If you have too much money, you can tape the track
4)Use a shovel the minimum possible. No proper berms needed: all you need for a turn is a hole where you can rail in.
5)Invite a lot (!) of buddies.
6)and finally, ride your DAMN bike, whatever it is.
