In 2010 Jackson was introduced to the mountain bike community with a run bike video shot by his dad. Over the past six and a half years "Jackson Run Bike to Kindergarten" has been viewed over a million times. In the past six and a half years Jackson has made it through kindergarten and a couple of other grades. He has also gone on to become recognized in the mountain bike world. And while people get a glimpse into what Jackson does on a mountain bike they don't realize that he is just a regular kid. He goes to school Monday to Friday, he plays soccer, and he skis. He races RC cars with his grandfather and cousin, he takes guitar lessons, he will take any opportunity he gets to shoot you with a Nerf gun, and does a bunch of other "kid" things.

Riding with Jackson is a lot of fun because he looks at things like a 12-year-old. His small wheels pop off things that larger wheels will roll over. His energy level is endless and he can be hard to keep up with after a long ride because he just keeps going.

Woodward West has become a second home to Jackson and mountain biker director, Jake Kinney, has become like an older brother. Jackson feels at home there and he's able to be himself—playing pranks on the other people who are there, showing first timers around, and riding lines like a local. Watch the video, then delve into the mind of this energetic grommet in the interview below.

2016 ended with two trips to Woodward West. How were they different?
The last two trips of 2016 were different because during the first one there were no camps going on at Woodward and it was more of a private trip with a friend for training. The second trip was a family trip, we drove down and spent some time in Santa Cruz and then I went to winter camp.

What were you working on most at Woodward? Were you able to land anything that you have been working on for a while?
I was working on a bunch of different things at Woodward. I backflipped the spbox; it’s a spine with a box jump landing, I also oppo three'd that, I tail whipped the whole resi and also 360’d the whole box.

You did a lot of travel last year, can you tell us where you went?
I did a lot of different trips down to California and Woodward. At the start of the year, before Sea Otter, I was at Woodward for two weeks and then drove down to Sea Otter with a couple of friends from Woodward. I raced in Port Angeles, rode at Coast Gravity park, rode in Kamloops and went on a trip to France for Crankworx.

Which trip was your favourite? Why?
My favourite trip was probably the trip to France because I got to see a new place, meet new people and watch Crankworx. Instead of staying in a hotel, we stayed at Drift riding lodge which had everyone eating and hanging out together which was way more fun. Even though it rained a lot it was still super fun to ride the mountain. We were so muddy at the end of the day it was so much fun.

What professional riders did you get to ride with in 2016? Who was your favourite to ride and hang out with?
I rode with so many pros in 2016 that I can’t really think of who would be my favourite, it’s alway so much fun to ride with pros. I got to ride with Danny Hart at Coast Gravity Park and in Whistler. At Woodward West there are always pro riders who come up to train, so we get to watch them. I rode in a Vans competition in Los Angeles with a lot of pro BMX riders, it was so much fun. I got to ride with Cam Zink and Mark Wallace in an Oakley video during Crankworx too.

You got to ride with Danny Hart after he won World Champs. Were you able to keep up with him? Did you show him any secret lines in the bike park?
When I rode with Danny Hart after World Champs I basically didn’t ride with him; I rode with him up the chair lift, but he was so far ahead on the trails. I didn’t get to show him any secret lines because he was so far ahead of me. It was awesome after a full race season he was so happy to be riding in Whistler, just stoked to be there.

You are a pretty active almost teenager, what other activities do you do?
I do a lot of different activities like soccer, I ski, I like to shoot my bow and arrows, I have an RC car, I play a little bit of guitar, and go to school.

How did you get into archery? How often do you shoot your bow?
I got into archery from one of my friends at school. He took me to an archery night and I immediately loved it so I went every Friday after that. They (archery place) have a family shoot on Fridays, I try to go to every one, I've only missed a couple.

What position do you play in soccer? Did you score any goals last year? Any plans to give up biking and play soccer full time?
In soccer, I play left mid or left wing. I haven't scored many goals, we have a really good striker on our team who scores all of the goals so I am more of an assister. I have zero plans to give up biking to play soccer full time because biking is so much more fun.

Winter has hit Squamish pretty hard, what have you been doing instead of biking?
With so much snow on the ground in Squamish, I've been skiing in Whistler and in my back yard. I’ve been going to the Air House, our local trampoline park and a little bit of school.

Describe your feeling when a box shows up from your sponsors.
When a box shows up from one of my sponsors I'm so excited to open it and see what's inside. It’s almost like Christmas and I am super excited to open it because I love all my sponsors and they make awesome parts.

Do you feel you have any special advantages over other riders your age? If so what would they be?
I do feel that I have some advantages because of my parents and how awesome they are, I also get to ride with a lot of pro riders like Jake Kinney, always helping to make me better, all of the amazing trails in Squamish, and living close to Whistler. I live in the perfect place with the perfect people.

You ride trails, bike park, skatepark, and dirt jumps. Is it hard to go from one style of riding to another and do you prefer one style over another?
I will ride all of my bikes on the same day so it's not really hard to transition between different bikes. It’s super hard to pick which style is my favourite. During the winter time, I ride a lot more of my hardtail so I prefer dirt jumps and slopestyle. But, in the summer I ride the park all of the time so then I prefer downhill way more.

i seriously cant wait to see what this kid can do when he's older! gets me stoked every time i see one of his vids!
  • + 17
I can't wait to see what he can do now. I haven't watched the video yet, now I'm going to.
  • + 11
He reminds me of surfer John John Florence from Hawaii when he was that age. You knew what the future would hold for him with all of the advantages he had growing up at Pipe.

All it takes is a one bad, bad girl and we lose the lad... nah! Awesome stuff to watch. Made me smile Smile dude rips!
  • + 5
@WAKIdesigns: lol so true though! All you groms out there gotta watch out, cars, booze and girls look awesome when you're 16, but then a little later you wish you'd have just kept riding!
  • + 1
@trialsracer: Yeah someone shoulda reminded Super T Klassen.
  • + 3
@herzalot: I know what you mean. surfed hossegor with jjf when he was 11. knew he was going to be good, but he became a monster!! happened the same 1999 with andy irons.
now I know my mtb idol is 12

@trialsracer: I am 36 and cars, girls and booze still look pretty fooking awesome to me. If my wife and kids didn't keep getting in the way ice be all about it still. Maybe not so much booze, but cars and girls f*ck yeah
  • + 0
 @jaame: thank you
  • + 0
@WAKIdesigns: @trialsracer I can confirm as a 17 year old that bikes > girls. Every time.
  • + 4
@FatBoyFreeride: you say that because you just haven't found the one!

Oh, biking girls are a trap. They will be your riding buddies, you will shag your brain out to make them have a good time. Sooner than you know it, they will want to talk to you, ask why you never gave them flowers, late messaging - why you didn't answer my message for whole 2 hours, don't you like me anymore? Why have you stopped liking my friends pictures? And bike specific stuff: why didn't you wait for me mid way? I got a flat and had to go all the way down to the bottom lift station... is it because I didn't want to watch the thing you wanted to watch Netflix? Why aren't my brakes working as they should - no they are not working properly and I know they aren't! No NO! They were different yesterday! you are just lazy and not caring, why don't you do something. You have tools. And I called you three times, why didn't you answer? Is my bar not straight? Please check. Why did we have to take that trail, I told you twice I don't like it, when?! last month in the evening, when we were walking down the Langdon street, and I told you that I wanted a cat.

Not worth it over a nice not-riding girl. Ehhh...

@WAKIdesigns: just going to upvote for taking your time to make an essay that most will ignore....
  • + 1
@Trials-FTW: I don't think it was a girl that fractured Super T's femur and changed his cycling path... Wink
  • + 2
@BeardlessMarinRider: you never know. They can be pretty vicious if you piss them off. Even if you don't know what you did to piss them off.
  • + 2
 @jaame: True!

On the flip side to all of this...

Cedric Gracia has shown a little female distraction isn't a barrier to being awesome on a bike Smile
  • + 2
@jaame: She is sad, because he doesn't know what's going on, because she is angry with him, because he doesn't know why, because she won't talk to him, because she wants him to figure it out himself.

When a woman is wrong, you should apologize her for it.

@WAKIdesigns: women are never wrong. Even when they're wrong, you are in the wrong for noticing they are wrong which cancels out their being wrong and shifts the blame onto you.

the control and style for his age are just incredible
  • + 11
That's what I was thinking too. It's not just the tricks he pulls, they're all locked on, no mistakes or slopiness.
  • + 6
And then he'll discover girls & beer
  • + 2
that Little dude is just insane, his style and riding is awesome for his age! guess he will win joyride before he even take his driving license haha xD
  • + 28
Damn. Keep it up buddy. Was sick to see this kid doing massive whips out at the old rampage site. Style for miles.
  • + 23
backflip...... took you long enough.... holy cow. awesome stuff. there's no hope for me, but perhaps for my 4 year old....
  • + 23
man the stars really aligned for this kid - all the best! I'm jealous
  • + 24
 This is actually insane
  • + 17
 Is this Semenuks untold child?!?!
Holy balls! This kid is 1/3 my age and shreds better than I ever have/will.
Job dude, keep bringing the gnar.

Have you ever seen bmxers (same age as Jackson)? It's nothing special, don't understand all this hype about another-goofy-child.
If u install smth like mtb fork to 18 inch wheels bike, it didn't make you "Semenuk child"...
  • + 8
 @Hyperx: y u so jelly nelly?
  • - 11
flag Hyperx (Jan 26, 2017 at 5:59) (Below Threshold)
 @jakecallcut: don't understand you.
Look at the Troy Hayward riding at 11-12, see the difference...But it's bmx, so not hype for him.
  • + 8
@Hyperx: This is just one discipline's which he is excelling at, so comparing a kid on a mtb to a kid on a bmx is pointless. This kid is fantastic at riding his mtb and I'm sure I don't speak for myself he is better than a lot of people and it is fun watching him grow and improve.

It reminds me following Finn go from being "another-goofy-child" to a Jr. DH world champion.

Thanks for sharing your opinion though......
  • - 3
@Hyperx: to be fair...I thought the same thing.

It's awesome that he is excelling, but this is just BMX with a fork on the bike.
  • + 1
@Hyperx: From the pov of bmxers i guess you could say that he hasn't got many tricks. But from an MTBers pov, i can see that he has some tricks yeh, but what strikes me the most is the fact he has so much bike control and he is also pretty > Stylish usually these up and coming bmx kids are mainly driven by the tricks but mtb is more of a style thing so they are completely different. I haven't seen too many kid bmxers already resembling chase hawks stylish flow but Jackson is already pretty stylish at his age.
  • + 1
 @preach: Ha, someones jealous.
  • + 9
I would like to pay my respects to this guy's parents, they apperantly doing something right, allowing him to chase his dream and do what he loves the most. I wish i wiuld be abale one day to do the same thing for my little shredders Smile
  • + 11
I think I hate this kid. I literally have clothes older than him, and yet he makes me look like I have just removed my stabilisers. Lot of talent young Jedi, keep it up.
  • + 3
This. My DJ bike is older than him and I still can't do what this kid is making look easy!
  • + 9
Holy crap. Skills. At age 12 I had a rusty supermarket bike and was trying to bunny hop... Good job Jackson's dad.
  • + 9
Kids are now just born better at biking than me, it's part of vagina package 657 with perfect teeth, and no fear.

You must be lacking in experience, cos vaginas don't have teeth....

So you don't have to publicly admit this 12 year old is better than you, just click the green up button to stay anonymous. I'll go first!

lotta fox promo for what seem to be a sr suntour fork?
  • + 7
pretty sure fox doesn't make a 20" fork ... and not sure a t-shirt in a video counts as a lot of promo ...
  • + 6
Just the t-shirt? That Fox head is it not? No relation to Fox shox in any way.
  • + 1
Nevermind. In the photos its fox head.....
  • + 1
@paulclarke: not fox head fox suspension
Now and then t shirt
  • + 2
The fork is the SR Suntour Axon 20. There was a limited production and that being on Jackson's bike helped get it noticed. Hopefully another run of these are made. My son runs it and its hands down the best in class. Last ones left here www.envelo.cc/sr-suntour-sr-suntour-20-axon-werx-80mm-lo-r-15qlc.html

Great to see an up and comer with such incredible talent!
  • + 5
Ever time I see him ride I'm like "maybe having kids isn't that bad of an idea...."
  • + 1
Jackson and his parents are a prime example of what happens when you give your kids oppertunities, support them, and let them get after it . Red Bull should be serioulsy keeping an eye on him.
  • + 1
Ya he's s ripper with the world infront of him Here's to a good life of clean living Solid chicks And not having a serious crash that makes you re think life Go Jackson !!!
  • + 2
I'm not even going to watch this video (self esteem reasons). I just came here to comment that I'm not going to watch this video
  • + 3
When you pr your strave time and then realize that this kid would smash that time with his eyes closed
  • + 1
Dang bike park kids. Too bad we all couldn't have the unconditional support of the best parents ever, to do w/e we want.

Hope this guy maximizes the potential he has here to grow the sport in a good way.
  • + 1
I love how his little bike makes some of those tighter transitions actually rideable. haha, A few of those quarters almost killed me the first time we rode there because they were so quick. More mini-shred!!
  • + 1
Not many people work harder at their craft than this kid! Sky is the limit for this kid, or maybe there is no limit because gravity doesn't seem to apply for Jackson.
  • + 1
So awesome to watch this kid grow and progress. Keep the vids coming! Needs another segment in a major production vid! Come on freeride-entertainment!!!!
  • + 1
 That kids special, just awesome at that age. Well done to his family aswell, hope i'm alive long enough to see him develop into a adult shredder lol;

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't a kid that size just be on a BMX bike?
  • + 1
He's learning a lot of tricks. Too bad he can't learn to not be goofy-footed.
  • + 1
It's so great to be able to see the progress and development of his riding from such a young age. Keep it up Jackson!
