UCI - please insert a column indicating wheel size of the riders' bike. It will be much easier for commenters who don't really follow DH to make irrelevant posts re: wheelsize. thanks, sincerely, the gallery.
  • 55 22
 Bring 26" back
  • 88 43
If Trump could get a penny everytime wheel size butthurtness comes up on Pinkbike, Mexico wouldn't need to pay for it... you guys are pathetic, honestly...
  • 5 4
@metong: People can still ride it if they want to though surely, they just don't at world cups, because it is dead in terms of the competition.

@WAKIdesigns: dude i am a little confused, that waki ass SOB is president of the US (oh god save us all), i don't think he is worried about our neighbors to the north, maybe he will build a wall there too in a couple years...who knows. So yeah why was your comment mentioned on a comment by a Canadian? just curious. Thank you.

@joose: if next year there will be people racing DH on bikes with 27,5 wheels on the rear, 29" wheels on the front and Trump will get a penny for every butthurt comment he'll be able to fund wall along Canadian Border too. If a new rear hub standard will pop up like 15x162, then he'll be able to build a Trump tower per every mile of the wall with freaking laser beams attached to the roof tops...
  • 5 4
1st n 2nd men on 27.5, Rach could be fastest on a green machine..
  • 2 1
@bat-fastard: I thought Bruni had a 29" Demo. Did he leave it in the pit and ride the 27.5 during the TT?
  • 10 0
@nicket8t: vitalmtb had an interview saying he wouldn't use it as it isn't "fun"
  • 5 4
@nicket8t: it was a 27.5 with an adaptor bolted onto chainstays so 29" would fit, he didn't like it or trust it more to the point.
  • 1 0
There was an interview with Bruni a day or two ago where he said that he wasn't going to use the 29r. It was there...but he is not going to use it.
  • 7 2
@bat-fastard: haha you just straight made that one up about his frame, how it's made and it's trustworthyness. He's tested the 29" plenty, and it's not an issue of reliability From day one here he has said he will ride the 27.5 because he enjoys the way the smaller wheels ride.
  • 3 5
Even better, how about two separate classes. That way we'll know who's the faster race, rather than who's just riding bigger wheels.
  • 2 0
helllllll yeah. gotta keep the comments section spicy!
  • 1 1
@WAKIdesigns: Trump, would pull out of the whole 29er thing and go back to 26" and square taper bottom, brackets, narrow bars and ghey skin suits, always amazes me how annamoured Amercians are wearing Lycra, almost perverted how they like skin suits.
  • 3 0
@davetrumpore: everyone seems to be an expert on Bruni's feelings. Can we get a heads up from his mum please, just to clear things up?
  • 3 0
@jaame: why would anyone use his opinion on this as a point of reference in this idiotic discussion? I respect his opinion, what I don't respect is getting excited about what hesaid for purposes of own dumb arguments. Pros are not super mind overlords, they are people like all other people when it comes to decision taking. Look at fkng roadies for fks sake. Froome and bunch of other guys writing an open letter against disc brakes based on an accident having nothing to do with disc brake. There is no running away from responsibility to develop a good judgment when taking decisions, especially as stupid as buying or not buying a new bike. In fact, as Lawrence Krauss says this is the new frontier of education system, not to fill our kids tons of data, but teach them how to look for information and distinguish bullshit from valuable info, how to identify reliable sources of information from bullshitters. Not taking someone's opinion word for word as ultimate truth just because it sounds cool or you sympathize with the guy. And theeeen we need to teach kids psychology, that humans like to play team games, that we tend rationalize our choices no matter what. I am not sure I want to buy a new DH bike, I kind of don't have money, but there is this new sht coming out and I feel kind of threatened that I will be slower - I don't like that feeling - since difference between my old bike and that new one is possibly small then... I may as well shit on thatnew shiny shit in order to feel better!!! I'll find some like minded folks so that I don't feel lonely in my stance. Then I will seek authorities who seem to support my side of argument.

That's all there is to this butthurt wheel size show. I've been there myself, I strongly believe 275 is terrible billshit, but I got smarter
  • 2 1
@davetrumpore: nope look at the photos, theres a spacer bolted onto rear dropout to space back wheel out 3/4"
  • 1 0
@bat-fastard: And? doesn't mean its not solid. I guarantee there are plenty of spacers on your bike
  • 2 1
@rrsport: do you know him? Guarantee is a pretty strong word.
  • 1 0
@jaame: headset spacers... hub spacers... spacers in suspension
  • 2 1
@rrsport: maybe he took them out? Have you seen his bike?
  • 1 0
@rrsport: they are designed to be there, its like putting a 203mm disk on forks that have a limit of 180mm your overstressing the mounts. They might not fail but your taking out any extra strength redundancy designed into them so running on its limit.

There is not enough info here. Without wheel sizes, how do I know whether to say "see, wheel size doesn't matter" or "I know I always said wheel size doesn't matter but 29ers are an unfair advantage" or just go for the mainstay reductio ad absurdum with "why not 36" wheels" or "I can't afford this so therefore bike industry conspiracy?"
  • 31 4
I really hope that wagon wheels dominate so people will get even more upset.

 Ridiculous.

deserving or inviting derision or mockery; absurd.
"that ridiculous tartan cap"

In what way is he deserving or inviting derision or mockery?

flag jaha222 (Jun 2, 2017 at 10:45) (Below Threshold)
They most definitely don't mean nothing, you'd be dumb to assume that, but yet they are most definitely not the final results. Timed training results show who is fastest in timed training, which should give an idea of who's feeling comfortable on the track.
  • 2 0
This is true if you talk about UCI points. But timed training somehow gives us the idea of how comfortable the rider is with the track or with his bike. Usually the winner is within the top 10 of timed training. We rarely see riders outside the top 20 in timed training actually winning a race. Unless the name is Gwin or Minnaar.
  • 12 1
 Where's Sam Hill?
  • 8 1
Hes number 106 so he doesnt get to do TT. I think its only for the top 80 ranked.
  • 9 0
Sam's racing this one?? Excellent Smile
  • 5 0
@hollowing2000: @hollowing2000: yep.. his one and only DH world cup appearance. hopes of getting himself on Aussie World champs team.
  • 14 7
@pijong77: I have a feeling he's going to podium for this one. just a gut feeling. fingers crossed.
  • 23 4
The fact that someone here downvoted a pro Sam Hill post illustrates how dumb and out of touch with the sport and it's history the general public here has become.
  • 4 7
 @atrokz: Still no chance
  • 2 0
@hyperpower88: I had no idea. It would seem kind of unsafe for the slowest racers not to get an opportunity to train. Has this always been the case?
  • 1 0
@DrPete: They do get an opportunity to train, just not to do a timed run.
  • 17 8
It wasn't a fluke! Alex Fayolle is 49th in time training!
  • 23 0
I kind of hope he places really well in the race, to shut everyone up. Yeah sure he wouldn't have come first if the weather wasn't shit at Lourdes but the guy can ride, that's for sure.
  • 30 0
He is 42th, Gwin is 61th, what does it mean ? Nothing. Why are people such jerks with him ? He did nothing wrong, rode like a bastard, and won in front of other big names that rode in clear conditions. He deserved his first place.
Go back playing the big boss in your local shop Wink
  • 5 0
 @purplegorillaz: because internets
  • 2 0
@purplegorillaz: well said. He wouldn't be there if he wasn't a boss.

Blenkinsop came out of nowhere to win a single world cup race ten years ago and yet everyone loves him.

Why? Because he's also a boss!

Fayolle will be revered when everyone gets over this.

Forget all this nonsense. Where's round 2 of the mechanics tool box check?

 BULLDOG ON 7, GO BOY!!!

Thinking about skipping the comment sections for a few days. Getting truly fed up with this wheelsize debate sh1t.
  • 5 0
Well Whad'ya know. Despite all the crying and speculation, it's still gonna be a fucking bike race after all.
  • 5 1
I really hope Danny Hart rides within himself this weekend and does a few whips while he's at it.
  • 1 0
Isn't it about the rider, who's the fastest rider, forget wheel size folks, the rider will ride what feels best for him/her, Racheal Atherton, fastest by far is still on a 27.5 but i bet she'd still be the fastest on any bike, having the latest slickest bike doesn't make you a better rider, take for instance the mates you ride with, i bet amongst that group of mates there's some that are naturally faster than you no matter what bikes you ride, it's the same for the pro's
  • 1 0
If you ride with your brothers a lot you'll be fast
  • 3 0
Well Tracy Hannah is right off form or on the wrong wheels. 22+ mins for a run ................
  • 5 0
word from the pits is that they were running some prototype 8" wheels for when the wheel size debate comes full circle and they will be ahead of the curve...

Don't read too much into this
  • 8 5
Imagine how much more fun the womens races will be once Rachel gives up.
  • 3 0
It's just like pro snocross in the states. Tucker Hibbert mops the floor with everyone. There was even a race that he completely lapped the field and finished a full lap ahead of second place. It's amazing that one individual can be that far ahead of the field in a sports top premier series.
  • 3 0
Or once Tahnee Seagrave beats her. The amazing thing about Rachel isn't just how fast she is, but also how she's able to stay on her bike race after race AND go that fast. However, I genuinely think Tahnee has it in her.
  • 1 0
Tahnee's getting close. Nearly had her at Lenzerheide last year!

www.rootsandrain.com/compare747,13153
  • 1 0
@antennae: She isn't really though is she. I mean Manon beat Rachel a couple of years ago, then look what happened. Nobody is 'close' to her. They are all her races to lose really and everyone else is just racing for 2nd.
  • 1 0
@mgolder: Tahnee has got the skills and the balls but she hasn't got the horsepower or the experience.

Manon is good, but she's not on Rachel's level. Didn't Rachel have glandular fever the year Manon won?
  • 1 0
@mgolder: she only lost by 0.7s at Lenzerheide. She was fastest at the top split in quali yesterday.
  • 2 0
Shit, that would be interesting, I hope he has sharks with fricken laser beams on their heads swimming in his mote

  • 9 1

I'm going to assume he flatted / had a mechanical / crashed.

Its timed TRAINING. he's probably just up there sessioning a few lines thoughtout the course
  • 13 1
Hi, welcome to timed training. I'll be your guide....
  • 8 1
@Jibbaman28: Gwin is known for just taking it easy during timed training - stopping, reading the track, talking shit with fans etc.
  • 3 0
@RichardJBos: Stopping to look at line options or to watch other riders is quite common in training. The timing results are mostly meaningless.
  • 3 2
Im starting to wonder if the wheel size is making up for something else that's not up to par...
  • 8 0
Probs stopped for a pee, or maybe a No.2 with that time. The're all keeping us guessing
  • 2 0
@RichardJBos: Exactly what I'm sayin. Nothin to be worried about as far as effort or abilities. Just an opportunity to implement line choices scoped out during track walk.
  • 9 2
Maybe he was practicing reentering the track at the same spot where he had traversed it.
