Axel Heiberg Island, deep into the Arctic Circle, is one of the harshest, most volatile places on the planet. Normally devoid of human life, a short summer window allows the landscape to flourish under endless daylight. North of Nightfall, the newest Red Bull x Freeride Entertainment film, takes Darren Berrecloth, Carson Storch, Cam Zink and Tom van Steenbergen on a mission to explore those remote, aggressive descents at the top of the world.

 This looks extraordinary and I'm looking forward to seeing. The movie.

I'll be interested to see what the position on conservation is. It's great to be able to show these inaccessible places to new audiences, but doing so brings with it a social responsibility - to educate, and to highlight the fragility of these places. This is true wilderness, which is in ever-dwindling supply. I hope they've used the opportunity to highlight issues of human impact (theirs not least - what did they consider when building boosters in the arctic?), changing climate and habitat. As mountain bikers we all love to be out in truly natural places, but we do have an impact - even outside of the extreme infrastructure and land shaping of bike parks. There's a great opportunity with material like this to - again - reinforce the importance of treading lightly. Wild places should stay wild.

 There's an extra full stop, and an errant s in booters... sorry, working with a tiny screen!

 There are a couple sections dedicated to conservation and climate change, it's well addressed in the film

 I agree with @dominic54 for sure - and am glad that conservation is addressed - mountain biking is about enjoying the planet, and I think that gives us some responsibility to look after it for others who have a right to do the same.

That way we can have sick bike films in remote locations for far longer than if we ruin them all!

 @src248: Excellent, glad to hear it!

 @src248:
All well and good, but I get a little tired of hearing of similar action sport ventures travelling to remote places to shred, and saying that "we are doing this to bring attention to" - global warming, conservation, threatened cultures, you name it. Actions speak louder than words....just admit that you are there to have a fun adventure and don't try to sugar-coat the consumptive nature of these activities. And... I'm no better than anyone else in this regard.

 @aka-bigsteve: It is good to bring awareness to the aforementioned causes, however a place like this, so remote that it probably sees a handful of people a year is different from say the redwood forest etc.
  • + 2
 @Airfreak: It also probably cost them $5000 in air fare to get there. Unlikely the average joe is going to venture there on their own accord.

 "what did they consider when building boosters in the arctic?" If you're talking about the dirt booters, there is no way that moving dirt from A - B and shaping a lip out of it is going to affect much of anything...

 Just saw it tonight it turned out amazing

 @aka-bigsteve: having fun and bring attention to a given topic are not mutually exclusive, eh...
  • + 0
 @aka-bigsteve: After all the conservation talk they didn't even off their carbon footprint for making the film! LAME!
  • + 1
 @alijabosdotcom: it costs $20K+ to charter a flight from Resolute to Axel Heiberg, not including all the gear weight. And double that to get picked back up.

 @brianpark: yeah I meant 5k each.

 @SnowshoeRider4Life: Just bought it on Amazon. Says it's not a 3 in 1, just a DVD that they don't have in stock yet. Hopefully it is as described by on the Red Bull site. Was kind of hoping to get to the digital download immediately too, but now I'm stuck waiting until it arrives. Whenever that is.
  • + 1
 @SnowshoeRider4Life: Now it clicked. It is two discs. They don't make the download immediately available so you "have" to buy a digital copy now to see it sooner. That's business. And total utter and complete bullshit. Should have just gone with a digital copy. You live you learn.

 Definitely more original than Gamble. I like that this is not a loosely glued sequence of some random riding scenes (very good ones by the way). I have nothing against the Gamble, but this one is simply more original.
