Choosing the winner at an event like Red Bull Rampage is a tricky proposition, one that's much more complicated than simply looking at a stopwatch when a competitor crosses the finish line. Riders' scores are based on four categories: line choice, fluidity and style, air and amplitude, and tricks.
This year's competition was heated, with multiple athletes laying down runs that seemed destined to take the win, that is until the next rider dropped in. When the dust had cleared, there was a repeat winner atop the podium, but not everyone seemed happy with how the judging had played out.
Listed below are the riders that finished complete runs in the finals – now is the time to cast your vote for the best run of the day.

Another interesting point to note is that the wind is alleged to have picked up mid way through second runs conveniently after sam has completed his second run but just in time to prevent the riders still on the hill from challenging Sorge's score. It must be the case that only semenuk has the profile and influence to supersede the corruption that is increasingly becoming imbedded in these events as he was allowed to complete a second run. But answer me this - did it even look windy up there? Can you even see one ripple in lacondeguy or aggasiz jerseys? Go through the footage again and ask yourself these questions.
If Vink stomps his line next year along with the tricks he will throw down lower, I have a feeling that one will take it. That was just absurdly huge. And Paul Bas, pretty sure he just set the world record for biggest MTB drop ever landed.
1. Kurt Sorge
2. Andreu Lacondeguy
3. Brandon Semanuk
4. Thomas Genon
Tie for 5. Cam Zink and Graham Agassiz
Great show! - Big thanks to all involved in RBR . Last words to judges: Go away ! try to judge figure skating.
semenuk robbed this year.. rheeder was robbed last year
Funny how it's the opposite now
my point is tricks *are* a part of freeriding, they ALL go together. And brandon did ALL of those things very very very well. too many people are discounting him almost because he is *too* good at his tricks, so what are you people implying? is anyone here going to argue that semenuk doesn't have flow/style/speed/amplitude? I would argue that he has the capacity for just as much amplitude as aggy/andreu/sorge but there's no chance to demonstrate it because it was such a bloody menstrual territorial cat fight over the huge drop spot of the terrain.
Bummer for Semenuk, although at least he can be encouraged by the fact that pretty much everyone other than the judges think he should have won.
Also Sorge won without doing the Aggy / Lancondeguy line so you can't go reasoning that for Seminuk not winning.
And no shit it's not a slopestyle event. Did you see anyone on slope bikes, did you see any three pack jump line ups? Because I saw the c3 project out there dropping cliffs and BUILDING AND SHREDDING TRAILS.
Congrats to all the riders who made it down safely and healing vibes to everyone nursing their wounds. You guys are absolute savages to build these lines just for one run! Cant wait for next year
The only reason Darren took his second run is because he felt he had almost no choice since he did not receive a score his first run.
Bizets run was sick as f*ck. Wished he landed. But knowing these judges he'd get deducted for doing a more complicated trick
His run had it all. The perfect combination on gnar and tricks. Seminuks was all slopestyle
Just going on an overall feeling of which is better is even more subjective and open to inconsistency. Maybe it would work if the judges had a couple of hours to go through replays after the comp but I don't think doing a real time ranking this way would work
Also did anyone else notice that it was apparently too windy up there to complete a second run for agassiz and lacondeguy the only competition for sorge. But did anyone even see a flag move up on that top section? Everytime the wind was gusting it was a flag away from the riding area. I went back and checked the footage and the flag blowing in the wind is an extremely well edited loop to give the impression that the course has become unrideable. So sketchy
the judgement is for riders as for the judges difficult due to the difficulties in line/jump prevention among the riders.
Having said that, being a judge would suck. You do a great job and people are just indifferent to it. Make a slight mistake and you're basically fcked.

The looseness is exactly what I didn't like about lacondeguys run, as he looked like he couldn't hold his run together. You think semenuk isn't pushing the limits? What other riders did the tricks he did? Should he apologize for looking that smooth and stylish?
I think that you are over analyzing the meaning of freeriding, dude.
