 They were nearly dead even in split one, Vergier gained 1.5 seconds on Gwin in Split 2, Gwin pulled half that back in Split 3 and then another 2+ seconds in split 4.

 @westeast: Yep, but with Loris catching Ratboy at the 4th split and being held up. I'd dare say Loris would have been comfortably the fastest qualifier otherwise. I'm sure Gwin's got something left in the tank for race though. He always does!

 @doakwolf: No doubt, Raboy slowed Vergier down significantly. I was simply breaking down the splits. I wish they'd list them this way as well as showing the total time to each split. It's fun seeing who is fastest in each section as well as who was the fastest to the end of each section.

 Besides is it not considered a banned substance? Winners will have to take a piss test at a UCI race and I really doubt he's willing to throw it all away for that. I just think he's naturally slow...

 @endlessblockades: I would hope that's not the reason, since weed is on the WADA prohibited list (and by extension the UCI list) the consequences of that could be much farther reaching than a few spots down the results table.

 I was once a major pot head for about 5 years. Plenty of dirt bags rolling around the scene, but also good people. Drunks are horrible, unless they're just one nighter girls from the bar! If Josh won a championship stoned, he should recieve 2 medals and everyone else should really reevaluate what they are doing wrong
