Video: Remy Morton Rides a BMX in Queenstown Bike Park

May 15, 2018 at 10:06
by Pinkbike Staff

Remy Morton is one of the best bike riders you are likely to find, stylish on a downhill bike, an enduro bike and a BMX as well! We heard that Remy was taking his 20-inch whip with no suspension and rim brakes into the Queenstown Bike Park, so we charged up the cameras and followed him in. Hitting these trails on a BMX is no joke so PLEASE do not try this for yourself!

Nice, but I grew up watching guys like Sean Burns, so compared to his insanity, this is a walk in the park :-)
(to those who don't know who is that, you can see here youtu.be/Dl8Ydm7vwws?t=42m1s)

Totally forgot about that bat shit idiot! INSANITY! Big Grin

That was f*cking gnarly. I’m watching the rest when I get home from work

find any watch everything you can that involved Sean Burns. the man is a legend.
  • 11 0
My thoughts as well. Street bmx riders have been jumping from second story height to flat for a long time. In less than idea conditions. It makes riding down some dirt hills seem more tame.
  • 3 1
@laxguy: steven hamilton has some nice video parts too if you like full speed style mixed with some weird tech moves. Shame the guy seems to be in a dark pace for some years now.

True Sean really pushes the limit by not wearing a helmet. I think the only way to improve this would be to wear a roller skate as a hat and start landing stuff directly on top of your head. In other news, Remy you are making amazing progress coming back from your injuries- I loved the edit and the big smile. Welcome back.

Watching that makes me cringe because I know that it's a major possibility something's going wrong

@bonkywonky: also true! cant stop the slow techy/jibby trends now-a-days... bring back FBM, metal pegs and pedalling fast!
  • 1 0
Oh my...that is insane! I had never seen him ride before....to the youtubes I go.
  • 5 0
@laxguy: I don't think Steve Crandall ever pedaled fast. Big Grin
  • 1 0
 @Mtmw: hilarious roller skate
  • 5 0
Haha, totally was thinking the Sean Burns graveyard gap was way more gnarly than any of this stuff.

But I bet the braking bumps are hell on the 20" wheel.
  • 1 0
Jesus fuck... that dude had like 5 crazy enders on his part... so gnarly...
  • 4 0
That was bloody crazy. Is Sean Burns still alive and riding?
  • 6 0
Interesting will be to see hi PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE.
  • 7 0
That was all fine and dandy but in the end it all comes down to... no water bottle mounts.
  • 2 0
@bman33: idk.. might take him a little to get going.. but once the momentum starts Smile
  • 3 0
@laxguy: Haha....exactly. For a chunky guy, he can ride. I toured around with the NBL/ABA most of the 90's and 2000 ish. He was around a good bit. Especially at the NBL races like Southpark and such getting the FBM thing going.

Sean Burns is a f*cking maniac who epitomizes the "do not try this at home" disclaimer...and the true king of huck-to-flat!

Isn't healthcare in the US kinda expensive? Don't want to see his bills Wink

Yeah, kind of lame of whoever was filming (and/or has edited this movie). If he said "thanks, bye" it is the end of the video. Why keep filming, safely behind your camera?

To everyone saying "it goes to show how smooth and flat trails are now" , yeah flat trails suck, but the Queenstown bike park is way gnarlier than your local trails. And the jumps are f*cking huge. One of them is longer than the 4th on crab apple. What remi did in this video is unbelievable. Most of the people commenting couldn't those jumps, period.
  • 13 4
The way they build some flow trails like freeways in bike parks these days, makes this seem doable for most. Note that I said seem. I don't mean to take away from the skill of Remy. I bet we'd all have second thoughts given the chance.
  • 4 1
People seem to forget about donwhill bmx racing from the late 90's and early 2000's, too.
  • 1 0
 @srghyc: what is that
  • 2 0
@srghyc: I didn't forget about it. I didn't know it existed. I'm learning so much on PB today.
  • 2 0
@srghyc: good old Norco Desert Rat was my go to bike backthen with the red cobra grips and plastic seat!!
  • 10 1
 First: cute shorts.

Second: The dude just recovered from a major injury, one that would see many never ride again let alone walk or function normally. So all this nonsense about the smoothness of bike parks and what about this guy or that guy is completely missing the point...which I am taking to be that this guy is back!
  • 2 0
you won this comment section Sir ! and Remy is absolute killer. Would you guys realize what it mentally takes to ride at this speed / level / confidence after such an injury?!
Remy i owe you all my respect and beyond. Take care
  • 12 0
Rim brakes is an overstatement. RIM BRAKE! As in one.
  • 8 2
I really want to learn to jump this summer, but more than that, I really, really need a pair of those shorts!!
  • 1 0
 yesssss!!!

The funny thing about Kiwis is that they don't rinse the suds off after washing the dishes. I didn't believe it either, I thought oh you must have had some slacker flatmates. But then this PHD Kiwi comes to stay at our place and sure enough I had to rinse all the dishes off as soon as she left the kitchen. And yeah, Shen Burns rips
  • 4 3
that's not only awesome riding, it shows how far from competent most mountain bikers have turned out to be, with everyone running out to buy way more tire, bike and brakes then actually needed just to ride the f'ing chair/truck up and coast down a buffed out path. Look at the 'trails'! Nothing more than a bmx track with no rocks or roots left after being hacked, shoveled and raked into the woods. Sure this dude rips, and that bike is a serious challenge, but isn't that what riding is supposed to be? Most riders are sitting on their asses between each jump 'cause their too weak to stand anymore, this dude and other HT riders have to stand and rip it. No wonder CroMag and BTR are selling shready hardtails, 'cause that ALL that's actually needed to ride most so called mountain bike trails today.
  • 3 1
This was way less.scary then when pinkbike bought a bike from walmart in squamish then took.it to the bikepark. I think they did two laps on it and possibly returned it to walmart!

 20 inch ain’t dead
  • 1 0
Nothing more fun then taking a bike waaaayyy outside of its element. I.e. sketchy rock gardens on cx bikes or attempting that double on a fixed gear commuter by those railroad tracks you had been eyeing for a eveyday on your commute to class. Then showing up to class with dirt covering your left half, your left elbow tore up, and rocking the biggest smile!

 credence or fucking die

I like your shirt Remy. That was rad. Glad to see you riding and getting stronger.
  • 4 0
1st thought was "secret footage of Phil Atwill at Leogang 2017"
  • 2 0
This is CGI. No way a human being could ride a trail with anything less than 160mm of travel F/R. /Sarcasm

Great to see Remy back out killing it!
  • 2 2
Um, ok... Hardly insane. Launch ramp landings, and smooth berms, and skidding every 10 ft. Flow, bro... Flow

Someone dig up footage of Posh, or anything in Pittsburgh. I get in, this is "different" but, ain't insane. Watch the latest Credence web-vid for a lesson in "trails"

 That free hub sound. niiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • 2 0
I’m just pumped to see him shred!
  • 2 0
YEAH MAD DAWG!!!! I bet 'Original' would have been sick.
  • 2 1
Wouldn't have turn down a set of knee pads for this one
  • 1 0
Coming up a little short had to be eye watering good fun.
  • 9 10
Really just says how stupid smooth all these new school bike park toboggan trails are, you literally can ride them on a BMX or Road Bike... Bring back the gnar!!!
  • 8 1
He is riding the flow/jump line trails though - kinda the point? That park has some serious gnar in it too, dw.
  • 4 0
Queenstown has the fun flow trail. It also has the complete opposite.
  • 1 0
you need smooth/flow for these size of jumps
  • 2 3
I used to live in Queenstown, I'm well aware
  • 5 0
@ctd07: then whats the point of your original comment then?
  • 2 0
@DaltonBell: he obviously stayed well away from that jump line lol
  • 1 1
This is crazy. But I think his instagram edit was way better. More hype with the music in his ig edit!!
  • 2 0
 lol? trouser stall open?
  • 1 1
I want one of those TLD jerseys but I Can't seem to find were to buy one. Probably a custom made one?
  • 5 6
all this proves is how rediculously smooth "downhill" parks are becoming. Props for the amount of speed hes carrying thouh on little wheels thats gotta be scaryand twitchy
  • 2 2
The skyline parks are notorious for it, its like a long bmx track going down a hill, literally.
  • 4 0
This is one of 30+ trails and is one of the easy flow trails. I worked at Skyline and there are sections on trails that you probably couldn't even ride. Queenstown is known for its tech riding.
  • 2 1
Protective wear is too much of a fashion compromise.
  • 1 0
Come to Italy and try to do the same in our bike parks :-)

that brake was screaming for dear hell.....
  • 5 2
sounded like a sram guide brake lol
  • 4 3
 that. was. Rad!
  • 1 0
 Dank
  • 4 5
If you can ride that with an BMX bike there is something wrong with the track, sorry!
  • 4 4
Agree, it's way too smooth. Not that sending a BMX over those distances is to be underestimated. The speed he hits the jumps shows big commitment.
  • 2 4
Holy nut hugger shorts! Not way I ride a 20" on that without a set of knee pads. Remy is so smooth.. Zero F*cks! Big Grin
  • 2 2
 cute shorts.
