Where's the hype for joyride pinkbike? No bike checks or any pre event hype? The biggest event of all the crankworx! Biggest crowd except maybe French dh races! Too hungover from a week in the village?
  • 35 3
 And where´s dogworx too?!
  • 39 1
Seriously can we not get some pregame programming? Someone give Tippie a Red Bull and an iphone and let's do this.
  • 53 5
It's like as soon as pinkbike went corporate their level of quality took a big shit.
  • 26 2
when the passion is gone and it becomes to corporate.... lost their touch 100%

@Aled-DHI: haha she’s lame but she’s cute and one less swinging dong in mtb so I have to say I like her
  • 30 4
 @Aled-DHI: I like her. She’s good.
  • 7 1
Didn't mean to make a hate thread. We got Rob and Nicolai on the mic! Fedko is back! Emil is the new GOAT! Ice T holding it down right now! Can't wait to see the show!

Thanks for the feedback. There are always things I want to improve and we missed some slope bike checks this year because practice kept getting moved around—but I do want to say that big picture the team did a great job this year and I think we crushed our 2022 coverage.

It's not always easy to see what goes into these things; we put a huge amount of effort into things like the Nothing's For Free premiere, a new spot for the tower on the mountain, attending a ridiculous number of bike launch events that have embargoes down the road, etc...

PS. @darren853 Alicia's got a Dogworx story coming, don't worry.
  • 32 2
The biggest event at Crankworx is the Tour de Gnar
  • 11 5
when the big money come, all the fun is off, before corporate adquision I came here a lot of times every day, now I come here once a week and then I see this shit and I start thinking about someone have to created something like pinkbike in his best days, also what is going on is the slopestyle lost all his magical moment when lost his riders, who the hell want to see clons? all the riders now are just clons of the King ( semenuk) and rheeder, some time ago we had super diferent styles, now is bored and all they the same, I mis a lot the time of 7 years ago, the glory moment for slopestyle. enjoy with the imtitaion of slopetyle.
  • 15 1
@brianpark: surely the name has to be Crankwoofs instead of Dogworx
  • 2 0
So all extras went Outside ?
  • 3 5
@darren853: your mum couldn’t make it this year
  • 11 1
@cesc: If you really think Bringer and Johansson have the same style, I don't know what to tell you.
  • 2 1
@llkookj: Would be awesome to see a competition with just Emil, Brett and Brandon on the most insane course ever conceived to see who is boss!
  • 1 1
@alexsin: Well they do have Rob Warner working a slopestyle event, he could maybe name 3 tricks total. And if you want to expand the audience beyond the existing bro network Nicolai is not your guy.
  • 3 1
 @cesc: total bullshit hombre
  • 1 1
@barp: if you think that bringer have some style, nothing to talk with you my friend
  • 27 0
I miss the Kokanee drop into the finish.
  • 28 0
Last two features were such an anti climax.
  • 4 0
The old cabins were the signature features of the course
  • 5 0
@watchmen: the last two jumps were not money booters at all. The next to last jump - nobody did anything but 360 it.
  • 3 0
And that messere huge air quarter... And some proper wallride... Both true freeride and the design/evolution is more towards BMX than freeride...WHY
  • 2 0
@watchmen: I thought the exact same about that last jump.
  • 21 0
Man this wait is painful. Kinda frustrating to watch them do full practice runs with flips and 360s this whole time but yet they cant run the contest.
  • 21 0
Rogatkin is like the Macho Man Randy Savage of MTB.
  • 4 0
 Oh yeah!

agreed, i can almost guarantee you if emil wasnt in first at the end of the first runs they would have just delayed the second runs to tomorrow
  • 50 7
Yeah, contests based on who can do the best run are usually rigged for those who can do the best run.

Red bull must have ticked off the weather gods. Rampage, Hardline, now Joyride.
  • 31 0
Discovery bought the rights to the good weather
  • 6 1
@notatoad: if owning Planet Earth wasn't enough
  • 6 0
Or they just don’t know how to plan for realistically dynamic weather.
It’s time to take a page from surfing, freeride world tour, and natural selection: announce a few day window and send it on the best possible day in the window.
Isn’t crankworks always like a 9 day event anyways?

Tim Bringer:
"Maybe one day the organization will listen to the riders so we have a proper contest. We take the risk but they only think about the numbers on the live streams. I had a flat tire for no reason on the first run and they didn't let us drop for a second one because it would have been too dark for the live. We are the clowns in this circus I love this sport but we need to change some stuff"
  • 1 0
@leolentz: it would be cool to run the event in the dark with some proper lighting. Maybe they can spend some cash and allow for that next year. It is supposed to be the premium slope style event for the year so more thought/money should be put into dealing with the weather. The course design has evolved over the years from freeride to dirt jump. I think crankworx should be the one event that takes it back with bigger drops and more unusual features.
  • 2 0
@singletrackjamaica: i think the riders were really happy about the course! Everything was so well built, the flow was incredible. The spine was too close to the last jump, if they would change that they could increase the size of the last jump, i think.
  • 14 1
I think this was the worst Joyride by far....
  • 1 0
I agree, partially wasn't their fault just having one run. But I feel it's getting so tech and BMX'y (which is a helluva skill), that the relatable riding big jump and drops with tricks that feel a bit doable are gone. Granted the sport has progressed and you can't hold back progress, so maybe we are just out of the "good ol days" of this sport. Unfortunately I feel this product won't be as interesting to people who aren't us.

I get so hyped for Crankworks every year, especially having gone and experienced it, I hope that feeling keeps going. Honestly I'd like to see some of the old heads (who aren't old) back at the event like Sam, Brandon, Kyle etc... but that's just my nostalgia talking.

  • 14 1
After just watching Xgames this broadcast was shit.
  • 17 1
Agreed, this was the worst slopestyle event I've seen.
  • 5 1
Something is wrong when X-Games is engaging and great to watch......and Joyride is the souless snoozefest.
  • 9 0
well if dawid can manage a banger run on his first attempt and take the lead coming into round 2 then i think he has a serious chance
  • 1 0
 I hope so...
  • 3 1
 Are you forgetting Emil exists?
  • 10 2
maybe he'll push emil too far even to the point where he'll need to put a foot down on a jump and... stil win. Dawid deserved the last one for sure
  • 9 11
@Aled-DHI: you mean the same 3 tricks every run for the last how many years? thats when i refill my drink. not worth watching after the 100th time
  • 11 0
Get the feeling this going to be one run and done.
  • 3 0
With injury hold now, feels like there's no way they get 2 in

 Dylan Stark should have won....

 Semenuk gonna make an appearance
  • 5 0
 I wish
  • 4 2
 yeah i think he may
  • 4 0
He was at practice all week! My wife took a video of him doing a 360° tuck no handed and he reposted it to his stories, so it wasn’t really a secret.
  • 13 4
 Paul got robbed
  • 4 0
Szymon's run was so refreshing. Dawid needs to crash less, he's so close to gold. Torquato's run if he did all his tricks was an easy third (healing vibes!). Couderc's second was super stylish and well-deserved. Isted just needed to squeeze in a few more tricks. Emil, of course, because points and it's a comp after all.
  • 5 0
 "crash less," good advice
  • 6 1
On slope right now - super windy here. They interviewed Fedko and he’s saying it’s not going to be possible to throw down unless things calm down a bit.
  • 10 6
Paul's run was really good but I would have to agree Emil took it. I can never gauge Emil's runs until they show the slow-mo. Super technical and unique for sure.
  • 3 2
That's really the issue with Emil's style. No one can tell it was a good trick without slo-mo. If the judges had to score based on full speed replay only I bet scores would align better with what the live audience sees.
  • 1 3
@brance: yes, make this more like every other sport where the refs/judges never use slo-mo /s
  • 16 12
Paul Coderc not winning is why Slopestyle is slowly dying

What the people want > what the judges want

Pual's Run > Emil's run

Big moves don't get the love

Its OK, you don't understand what you're watching. Emil is just that far ahead.
  • 25 2
@scott-townes: the cool part about tech opposite tricks is they look the same as regular ones.
  • 6 1
 * Emil boggled several jumps and made some obvious downgrades.
* Isted's last jump was pretty weak
* Couderc had two doubles in his run; probably should have done something different up higher
* All three runs were great but far from perfect.
* The scoring should have been much closer
* Regardless of the final order somebody would be complaining
  • 3 1
@plyawn: Then by your logic, Emil's run should have been downgraded. He has nearly put down only 360 based tricks. I get the technicality required to put down all those variations but seriously ? One single backflip, no frontflip or double rotations (up or side)... the judges should prioritise variety not only on the combos, but on the base tricks itselves. It would grant more variety in the runs.
I'm sorry but his runs are not appealing at all anymore (lack of variations and in this end you have to watch the replay to understand what he has thrown)
  • 3 0
@Aksel31: More variety like two dub backflips thrown in the same run? LOL thankfully you fellas aren't judges.
  • 2 0
@scott-townes: Haha, I honestly think half of pinkbike is blind. Torquato (healing vibes), Tom, and Pauls runs were identical in some sections, and didn't really vary from eachother (360 first drop, Double flip the straight jump, tailwhip on, flat drop flip off, into tailwhip on quarter pipe), then Emil comes and adds actual different tricks to everyone else and from jump to jump through his run and gets slammed for "not being creative". Who else fast plant 3 dropped. Who else Oppo 3 canned, to reg nollie 3 can off? Who else blasted a triple combo on the quarter? Who else did literally any trick Emil did? Ben T did a truck to downwhip, but other than that, no one. It's comical haha

What a waste of efforts by the builders. Joyride was a joke this year.

  • 3 0
At the ending Cam said he's in stable condition but has a hip injury.

Cam seemed to think that guy was about to drop his trousers, until his companion stopped him. Doesn't bother me either way, though.
