LIVE UPDATES (PST):

9:53pm - We're into the round of 8. Massive upset with Kyle Strait washing out over the top of a berm and not advancing.

9:58pm - Greg Watts & Viktor Douhan throwing synchronized front and backflips side by side. Greg edges him out in run 1. (edit: frontflip suicide no hander? that a first? Berrecloth comes in and says Douhan got robbed on the trick score)

10:03pm - Pre-race favourite Thomas Lemoine eliminates Mitch Chubey after Mitch couldn't overcome the time differential from a crash in R1.

10:06pm - Martin Soderstrom advances over Tyler McCaul with a consistent, stylish run.

10:09pm - Douhan and Watts mirror their first runs, with the scores right this time according to the Claw (is the Law). Watts advances on time.

10:12pm - Billy Meaclem takes the win over Mike Ross, but Ross threw a HUGE superman over the last jump.

10:13pm - The round of 4 is here!

10:17pm - oh no! Lemoine over rotates a double truckdriver and blows a tire on the first hit. He'll have to overcome the max differential in the 2nd heat against Soderstrom.

10:23pm - Greg Watts with a flip bar to bar back to bar on the last jump, but Billy Meaclem takes the heat on speed. Greg is on the phone, explaining to organizers that he feels a barspin got missed. Drama.

10:29pm - Lemoine won't drop in for heat 2, but will compete for the small final once he fixes his flat. Soderstrom advances to the final.

10:33pm - Watts' score has been adjusted. He's leading by .17. Heat 2 now.

10:36pm - More drama with scoring...

10:37pm - We think local boy Billy Meaclem has advanced over Greg Watts. He took the speed but Watts threw some massive tricks. (edit: yep, Meaclem advances)

10:39pm - Meaclem will face Soderstrom for Gold, Watts will face Lemoine for Bronze.

10:45pm - Lemoine goes down in the first berm! Watts takes the advantage into heat 2.

10:47pm - Martin Soderstrom's double whips are so smooth, but Meaclem takes the advantage by 0.19. Martin: "There's too many numbers!"

10:50pm - Thomas Lemoine bows out of his second run after his crash, so Greg takes 3rd. Flip bar to 1 foot can for the crowd in his solo final run.

10:56pm - Martin throws a 360 double whip and goes down on the first jump! Just came up a bit short, so Meaclem takes it! The young man from Christchurch with the upset.

Billy Meaclem was just $35,000 on the Crankworx Fantasy League #underrated

Whoever had Meaclem on their team is probably grinning bigger than the Cheshire Cat right now...

Name it right: speed and tricks

I would be so happy if it was just downside tables and whips the whole way down.

I think from what I can see on insta stories Billy won with pretty minimal tricks, fast and smooth! Congratulations Billy!

Its also called slopestyle, not slopetricks

360 double whip still haunts Martin

 Stoked to miss this.

good that billy is finally getting some attention he deserves!

 Greg got robbed
  • 2 1
no kidding. If I want to watch someone throw super-quick tucks I'll review tape of my riding. Greg's backflip bar-back bar-bar was insane under any conditions let alone a speed race.

Totally. I have to say front flips are tough. But the style was minimal. The kid is fast. @plyawn:

Does Greg remind anyone else of an old Axl Rose?
  • 2 1
Greg WHATs GOING ON WITH TIMING!?
  • 2 0
Right. Timing was messed up all over. Straits timing in slalom looked messed up.

Jesus Greg, way to be a sore loser. Big congrats to Billy!
  • 4 2
That said - it sucks that the judges put him in the position at the first place. Certainly takes away from Billys run though.

That ruined the contest...the whole thing was whack...judging sucked. Don't care who won if it was full of judging and timing errors. 2.13 sec diff...pfff...more like .8 tops and underscored on tricks again, also Billy's tricks were not worth those scores either. WTF, that was hard to watch to the end.
