Live timing here.
Watch the event live on Red Bull TV here.
The rain held off, but Fort William still had plenty of variables to offer.
Unsurprisingly, Valentina Holl left the Junior Women’s field in the dust with almost a 30 second lead. But the battle for second came within 0.027 seconds, with Paula Zibasa just barely earning her spot on the second step over third place Anna Newkirk. On the Junior Men’s side, Kye A’Hern took the win with just under a second on Thibaut Daprela, and Kade Edwards rounded out the top three coming in with a 2.69 second gap behind first.
Tahnee Seagrave came away with her first Fort William win, crushing the competition, gaining time at every split. She got the win ahead of Myriam Nicole by 8 seconds. The most impressive run of the day so far might have been Rachel Atherton, who snapped her chain only a few pedal strokes out of the gate. Not surprisingly, she still pulled off an impressive finish, coming in 3rd, and less than a second off 2nd place. Not to mention she crashed mid-run too.
Amaury got his first ever World Cup win, taking the top step by 0.27 seconds. Loris Vergier and Troy Brosnan round out the top three, with Reece Wilson coming in 4th after holding the top spot for much of the day. Aaron Gwin and Luca Shaw both suffered mechanicals. Snapped chains seemed to be a theme of the day. On to Leogang next weekend….

I'm not drinking their stupid drink anymore.
if you consider that you need to see the rider a few seconds before they start and also a few seconds after they finish, you only have around 1:30 for the racerun.
you can try to count for yourself how long the event would last all in all if you have start intervals of 6min. even in fort william it would get dark by the time the last one's down.
like i said before, it would be strange to only show the run the second they start and cut back to the top as soon as they cross the finish line.
long racetracks are simply not good for tv. and they never have been.
Think about how they do this for the mens. We see mens race runs concurrently while 2 men are on the track. All we're asking for is parity between men and womens coverage.
Yes so there is no problem. Just show us more of the womens runs, as we see more of the mens runs.
From all the hate on here it sounds like redbull didn't show any of the women's runs, could of sworn i watched all the top 10 runs, with the top five getting the same coverage as the top men's runs.Plus Veronika's run, making that 11 out of 16 women shown on the feed, thats good coverage I'd say.
Personally I think Redbull are doing a grand job of bring all this to us for free
we - do - not - see - more - of - the - mens - runs
frankly it looks like all the time you have spent on this site didn't do much good for you.
btw this year they started to have qualies for women as well, that's the reason why not all 25 (!) women were allowed to go into the finals today, but only the top 16. which also is a lot more than the men. (60 out of 160).
Maybe I'm on the wrong website ????
From a cost, cabling, numbers of cameras, etc. needed we would talk about crazy work and money investment. So broadcasters use about 12-15 cameras. The put one at the start to give you a shot of the rider leaving the gate that they tape. And then playback that tape piece a couple seconds before the same riders show up to their first camera. TV magic The rest of the camera are placement from the finish line up.
Unfortunately sometimes pending on the location you don't get the best part of the coverage at the bottom. But eh, better than not seeing a live coverage and kudos to all the sponsors who invest more than a quarter million dollars per event to bring it to viewers for free.
I agree, W & M should get the same coverage.
Maes was as a kid of 15 years in a RedBull Worldchampionship 4cross (he had a wildcard). The whole world top was there to compete...
Maes took the win that day..... insane huh?
How do bike chains get weaker over time?
1. Gwin: 279 points
2. Loris: 275
3. Pierron: 273
4: Troy: 270
5. Blenky: 247
6. Luca: 232
Top four separated by 9 friggin points, and I'm betting on Luca to close that gap up again soon too. Bring on Leogang!
yes. x01DH is actually 11sp cut to 7, with narrow 11s chain
- a chat panel opened automatically and a post from redbull revealed the winner in it
- I couldn't scroll back in the vod anymore while its still live
- I can click individual runs to watch them, but it loads a new video then goes back to live once its done
So I cant watch the race, and its spoiled for me anyway - sick!
Just stop watching then, that way you won't waste any of your "free time" watching FREE COVERAGE of UCI mtn biking.
Funny all this chain snapping business, first thing Gwin said said to Troy after his chainless win was: "The suspension works good without no chain", check it out for yourselves: youtu.be/9B3G2U4O7Kk?t=159
Maybe they should start designing World Cup DH bikes that work properly instead of focusing on how many they can sell, (isn't that why Enduro was invented?) maybe then we would see an end to all these chain snapping 'accidents'.
I think someone like Rachel will have tweaked with her bike until it feels perfect with a chain. So the lack of a chain meant her bike wasn't acting how she was used to it acting and that's why she crashed.
Interesting ! where did u get that info ??
Not if it's designed correctly.
Suspension function should take priority over conforming to a conventional chain layout just to not scare off naive punters from buying them. Every manufacturer on the WC circuit currently does this, meaning every single bike out there is either totally flawed or seriously hindered by the chain.
This is a ridiculous situation. Canyons solution was neat but is still a plaster over a gaping wound, as is Commencals current attempt. As commendable as it is to see them going in the right direction pivot point wise and braving the braindead idler backlash, it's still not high enough, and whilst the idler does effectively stop pedaling forces affecting the suspension, the lack of a lower roller bringing the chain up as well means the swingarm is still tethered to the bottom bracket, making the rear mech part of the suspension, which it isn't very good at... Ridiculous, we need a new prototype era...
Thank u!!
I wonder why I'm being downvoted? Genuinely curious.
I'm just really curious if it's the social justice warrior element or people don't know I'm a woman and didn't like the part with Gwin's bottom.
If you say something negative about a person (unless its Brian Lopes or Tony Ellsworth) you get downvoted.
If on the other hand you say something negative about a bike, a component, or a manufacturer you get upvoted.
You just have to learn the rules.
I was just going by this Wiki
KMC Chains are made by KMC Chain Industrial Co Ltd, a roller chain manufacturer in Taiwan with outlets in the US and Europe. They make and manufacture bicycle chains, as well as other components under the name of KMC, and distribute them to other companies, including Shimano.Apr 12, 2018
The easiest way I can think of to identify Shimano or KMC production is if it says "Japan" or "VIA" (Vehicle Inspection Authority) right on the chain, it came from a Shimano plant. If it doesn't say anything and packaging says made in China (like an HG71), it likely came from a KMC factory.
Here's the partnership source straight from AM Group: www.amgroup.tw/webls-en-us/msg/message-企業簡介-25.html
I noticed that Idon't really care much whether I run a Shimano, SRAM, or KMC chain on my big bike, but on my SS and DJ, it's Shadow Conspiracy Interlock halflink OR NOTHING!!
Cant understand, I guess podium stars don't take it serious.
