Quick Facts
- Berrecloth and T-Mac have finished their runs in one piece. T-Mac nails his Coronarita drop.
- We are now down to 18 riders. Logan Binggeli did not start, and this may be due to a big crash he took yesterday.
-Doerfling aced the steeps but had some foot dabs down below.
- We now have a wind hold on course. 11.40am local time
- Aggy has dropped in and crashed up top. We are waiting to hear if he is ok.
- Aggy has been taken off-course to medical.
- Semenuk is up next, his last win here was in 2008. He has also won two People's Choice awards.
- Semenuk is the new leader with a score of 84.33.
- Tom van Steenbergen cleans his run. It's the first time he's done this since coming to the competition.
- Rheeder has slipped a pedal and is thowing away his first run.
- Riders only have three minutes to make it down the course or their run is disqualified.
- Bizet is up next. His best result was 2nd in 2012.
- Riders have ten minutes to drop in when they are called up. If the wind doesn't cooperate and they choose not to drop they must move to the back of the lineup.
- Bizet has chosen not to drop in and will move to the end.
- Tommy G is up next.
- Tommy has an absolute stormer of a run and currently sits in third.
- PEF the giant ginger Frenchman has a clean and speedy run.
- Two time winner Strait is up next.
- Strait stomps his run including a text book step-down flip and moves into 3rd.
- Zink now waits to drop in.
- Zink had a crash on his 360 drop but is ok.
- Lacondeguy won in 2014 and was second in 2015.
- NORBS! Norbs comes up short on a backflip but walks away.
- Conor MacFarlane took a big crash in practice earlier in the week but is ready for finals.
- Conor has taken another hard fall.
- Whistler Bike Park's favourite Frenchman, Remy Metailler, is about to drop in.
- Could Remy have had the fastest run? Time doesn't count but it does look cool.
- Last year's winner Kurt Sorge is ready up top. Sorge also won in 2012.
- Smooth as butter for Sorge. So smooth he's slipped into third.
- Will Bizet be able to nail a double backflip? Wind is proving an issue right now so we will have to wait.
- Antoine Bizet nails a double backflip and lands in second place. Only two riders have scored above 80 points.

Second Runs
- Claw lost his wheel on the ridge and didn't finish his run.
- T-Mac has a composed run but looses speed on the trick jump and will not be able to better his score.
- Storch lands a beautiful 360 again but has a foot dab on the landing of his table 360.
- Doerfling has a small slip up on a landing but still slighlty improves his score.
- In case anyone was wondering, that's new 2017 TLD kit Semenuk is wearing.
- Semenuk has decided to forfeit his start due to wind and will now go last. If all the riders ahead of him can't beat his score, he can opt not to drop in.
- van Steenbergen goes for a front flip, lands, but then washes out. He keeps it safe for the remainder of the run.
- Rheeder slips another pedal!
- Bizet has now decided to forfeit due to wind and will drop in last.
- Tommy G is waiting but it's gusty out there. After starting out a smooth run with a no hander up top, he has a crash near the bottom and rolls out.
- PEFs second run didn't go his way so that's 9th place for him.
- Zink has decided to pull out after run one.
- Strait was having an awesome run with a suicide no hander but washes out near the bottom landing a flip off the step down.
- Andreu brings heat to his run but can't beat his earlier score.
- Norbs gets another top to bottom run but unfortunately doesn't get enough speed for his final backflip.
- MacFarlane amazingly dops in for finals but wipes out up top. Heal up Conor!
- Not long to go now but the wind is really causing some troubles. Remy Metailler is currently waiting for a good time to drop in.
- Semenuk has decided not to drop in.
- Bizet currently sits in second and is keep to make it onto that top step. He adds a suicide no hander but skips the double flip and cleans run two. Is it enough?
- We are waiting on confirmation as to whether Metailler and Sorge will drop in or not.
- Metailler drops in but does not finish due to wind.
- Semenuk is the official winner!

WTF... why is the people's choice voting open right now? Guys that aren't even riding at this point are up there? That's ridiculous. Fans should be voting on who they think had the best run not who they nut for at night.

Stupid. Makes the award pointless.
  • + 35
I think you need to log in to facebook as well. I'm a Luddite w/o an account so I guess I'm not voting at any point...

how can Conor MacFarlane not be the people's choice? The guy has taken hits all week yet keeps getting up and riding. Should be the McGazza winner.

after Bizet run I change my mind - he went for it to try and take the win when no one else was ridding. Good on him

@plyawn: Agree that I give it to Bizet! Dude killed both runs and probably has the highest combined score at this point.

I was so so happy to see that. Even if he can't ride again at least he'll be able to have a normal life and know he made the most of being a professional rider while he had it.

That segment alone was what made rampage more then worth watching this year, super happy for him, really wholeheartedly happy for him like he is my best buddy.

@medievalbiking: is it confirmed that he'll never be where he was again? That's so sad Frown

@anchoricex: based on his interview, he is still dealing with PTSD. Hopefully he finds a counselor and works on healing the emotional side of things too.

I do PTSD work reguarly, have a fair bit of experience and specialized trainings/certifications in it and would be happy to offer it gratis to Paul Bas as a thanks for all the great contributions to the sport.

@anchoricex Not confirmed, I have no medical knowledge but the initial prognosis didn't even make it sound like he'd be able to walk a year ago

@snl1200: that is awesome man. Too bad you are not local to Denver or I would see you too.
  • + 4
@meesterover: I've got some grant funding submitted to start a text-message based free/anonymous mental health service for youth across my area so am not opposed to digital/phone based therapies...however I'm sure there are lots of awesome services in Denver. If there is anyway I can support let me know. Sorry to hear the way the brain responds to overwhelming experiences is causing issues for you. The good news is that if you find someone competent, that overwhelming physical and emotion response that comes with PTSD can be dimmed with works and life can continue to be rewarding. Best of luck in your journey man and again feel free to reach out. I've got a lot on my plate but would certainly try to find some time.
  • + 1
@snl1200: I appreciate it. I went through EMDR with a counselor 2-3/week for 10 months in 2012. I still have more occasions than I like, in which my emotions are controlling me and I typically end up overreacting and talking with my wife in a way that requires future apologies. It still hurts her. I know I am still dealing with steroid-hopped-up emotions.

I appreciate the idea of talking. For me though, I have found that EMDR is the best way to deal with this. If you can figure out how to do that remotely, you will literally be able to help millions around the world!

@samfr1000: He backed out of it because he didn't want to risk it. He wrote that on his Instagram i believe.
  • + 28
Some good improvements this year but I still think there's room for a lot more.

Why not extend the event by a day instead of forcing people to rush and/or fight winds. The beginning guys gets screwed by scared judging. The middle guys get hooked up. The guys at the end get wind. And the second runs are completely pointless because it's windy... with most guys not even bothering to take them.

It's bad for the event, it's bad for the riders and it's bad for all of us at home watching it. We end up sitting here for 3 hours watching riders stand there at the top and one after another bail out of their second runs... or take really really safe runs where we're just hoping they don't kill themselves. It's 100% pointless.

Friday... 1 run for everyone. You don't want to take your run... tough. This jockying and dropping back to get a better starting spot is B.S. Everyone knows the early guys get screwed so if I'm someone like T.Mac... why not just bail out and go later?

Friday... 1 run for everyone. You're done by early afternoon before the winds kick up. Then you have the afternoon to clean up the course, repair bikes and evaluate injuries. No new aspects can be added to the lines.
Sat... 1 run for everyone. Then the awards can get handed out and you can do wrap up interviews. Etc.

Also... viewers choice award... turn that shit off until everyone has run. It should be handled at the end. There were guys with 500-1000 votes BEFORE they even road. That's stupid. It should be going to the guy that viewers think won... or had the most entertaining run. Not the guy they think is the most handsome.

Riders.... thanks for going huge. Thanks for busting your butts all weak. Heal up all those that went down. Double back flip.... damn... what 3 dudes doing huge step down 3's. Crazy.
  • + 2
I think this year they wanted to have friday-saturday-sunday to allow delays but cam and the other guy said there was a front incoming and the weather forecast said more wind and worse weather was expected, so the only window they had was yesterday
  • - 1
@aldago: meant an up prop sorry.
  • + 3
They are out in the middle of the desert on huge exposed mountains. The conditions are rarely going to be perfect. They set it up this year to allow a window and I'm sure had some very skilled weather forecasters telling them that today was likely the best day to go. I grantee you it's not just some guy looking at the weather app on his phone making the call.
  • + 1
@aldago: Yeah. It was unlucky. They had solid weather for most of the dig days but it started blowing as the front came in so they really had no choice but to go that day. I think going to the second day the rains would have come in. I live in a world of pipe dreams. LOL!

Seriously though. I actually think the judging was better than ever this year. Results were relatively solid. I think some folks could have scored a little higher but they're the pros. All in all I really liked most of the changes.

Every line down was nuts. Straight up nuts.

Lots of killer riding. I really enjoyed Carson's line. Zink had a killer run going when he went down. Possible podium slot.

I like the reduction of riders and getting rid of qualies. If they're there... they deserve a score. And I like that they're all at least getting a little cash from the event.

Was a rad event. I just want one year to be able to see everyone get 2 clean runs in. It can change so so much.
  • + 1
@sino428: No doubt. With the front coming in going to the second day they could have gotten rained on so it may not have mattered. They pick a date and they really have to stick with it. But I just like the idea of possibly going two days... if possible... to get everyone on 2 clean runs. A lot of people just get that first run in and it's often one of the only times they've run the full line. So they're just trying to get down. Get a score. Have big plans in the second run but never get to do them. Sucks.

But then you have a couple guys out there putting mad laps in and go off in the first run. Maybe we'll see more guys doing that. Stop banking on that second run as it's 50/50 you won't get it.

I thought the judging was pretty great! I thought Remy's first run could have scored higher, but other than that seemed good to me watching the stream. Would have liked to see Bizet get best trick though and Connor was my vote for People's chioce. He just kept getting back on that bike. So insane...
  • + 11
Doerfling scored pretty low for riding the steepest part of the mountain imo, but other than that it seemed very fair.
  • + 4
@src248: Actually yeah I tend to agree with you there. Him and Aggy had that insane line, obviously it wasn't all about one aspect and they (the judges) really wanted to stress that, I do feel like he could've gotten some additional points for having the nuts to even look at that part, let alone drop that section twice and live to tell the tale.
  • + 6
@src248: James gets the skiers choice award - His line at the top made me stoked to go skiing!

Tyler got shorted a couple points on his first run .... the normal early guys don't get scored well.... thing. If I was an early guy I'd take advantage of the rules and back out of my run and go last in the first round. I thought he shoulda got scored around a 79 or 80. Sucks that conditions have been so good but now on score day it's windy as hell. Podium is sealed at this point with the winds picking up.

  • + 8
@plyawn: In first run is a bit of a gamble, if it is windy and you choose to wait, you can have better weather... or worst. In the second run can be used to run later, however I don't think Semenuk "cheated", it was clearly windy
  • + 12
@mfoga: get real. It's part of the rules. Don't hold it against him for being smart.

@Jokesterwild: I can hold whatever I want against anyone I want. I don't think he is a good sport. Not based on this but based on a lot of events. To me that's not the spirt of the event but everyone loves him so it's ok.
  • + 7
@mfoga: more like it's cool to hate on the guy because he's not necessarily what people consider to be a cool kid.
  • + 22
Everyone knew the rules going into the competition - what one can do they all can do.
You can't hack on a guy because he was good enough to nail his first run.
If you lose a tennis match or chess game your career isn't over, but if you get blown off the side of a mountain you may never ride again. Or walk. Or breathe. Fans won't be happy then, huh? Rampage gets cancelled?
Smart move Semenuk.
  • + 11
@mfoga: I think you miss the point.
All the competitors, and especially Semenuk, are not here to have fun on the finals. They put their life on the line once. If the score they get is enough why the hell would they gamble with death one more time ?
Rampage is a show that's for sure but you can't resent riders for minimising the risks ( there is a very obvious and easy way to not do a second run if I don't need it). I think everybody would have done the same if #1.
  • + 34
@mfoga: Oh the semenuk isn't a good sport shitshow again. You must think you're so edgy with your supposed unpopular opinion there. Promise nobody here has ever heard that one before! You ever met Brandon? Probably not, I'm guessing because one conversation with him and you would probably backpedal so much on your comments here that you wouldn't be able to leave your f*cking house in the morning. He's a real good dude who embodies mountain biking more then your whiny self ever could.

Grow up. They didn't say he used it as a loophole, they said "it could look like a loophole, but we assure you it is windy up there". Quite honestly you're just being a dick. Steenbergen waited almost his full ten minutes before dropping after that, he was even shaking his head saying this wind was nuts. Of course his stakes were higher and he was more compelled to drop, but if any mountain bike event gives you an opportunity to put semenuk down, people like you never miss a beat to hop on pinkbike and do it. You shitheads are awful. The f*ck do you know about the spirit of the event? You're here on pinkbike talking shit about one of the riders. All the other guys out there actually riding and digging were getting along just fine, sounds like you're the one who doesn't get the spirit of the event.

Cliff notes: f*ck off

That peoples choice is ridiculous! a great idea but allowing people to vote before everyone has had a run and not being able to change!?

 Absolutely terrifying to watch.
  • + 4
yeah - prayers for Ag right now. ugghhh
  • + 4
Hope he will be ok .... crash was rougher than paul bas'one so lets really hope his back and neck are ok
  • + 1
 With no gloves on :O
  • + 6
Did zink just say hes broken his hip?
  • + 6
 @neil-g: Yeah, broken hip. Ouch
  • + 6
@src248: nasty bone to break.. Heal up aggy
  • + 2
@src248: Zink walked out of his right?
  • + 3
@uphilarious: yeah with busted thumb, can't hold bars or shift for run 2 though
  • + 3
@uphilarious: Yeah, Zink hurt his thumb but is otherwise fine
  • + 2
@neil-g: Wait did Zink break his hip or did he say Aggy broke his hip?
  • + 6
@uphilarious: zink said aggy broke his hip
  • + 2
@neil-g: oh i thought you said Zink broke his hip
  • - 1
@uphilarious: no guys he broke his hip
  • + 10
How is the live feed this bad? Freezes every 30 seconds, totally blurry. Gotta love the effort from Redbull but what the heck? Screw the live feed and give more money to the riders.

flag lyophilization (Oct 14, 2016 at 14:37) (Below Threshold)
yeah f*ck those riders! they dont deserve shit, but some dude sitting at home not paying for the event deserves crystal clear live feed from the middle of the desert! good call bro #jacobgotrobbed
  • + 2
@lyophilization: why pay for the live feed if it's this bad when they can take that cost and give it to the riders...

Think you skipped this part bro.
  • + 3
 Could just be your internet...
  • + 1
@lyophilization: freeze dried methinks you missed the point the honourable member JacobSpera was making
  • + 2
@WolfStoneD: Switched some stuff around ended up being my connection.

Cant wait for the replays!

CONGRATS to all the diggers and riders out there
  • + 1
I found that if you maximized the video it cleared right up. Very strange.
  • + 10
I had a feeling Semenuk would do well. He doesn't go huge but he's got style for miles on a lot of these guys, and his more recent videos show him experimenting with varied terrain.
  • - 2
How dare you say that! Semenuk always have the biggest lines, drops and tricks. Herectic!
  • + 13
I know what you mean. like to me, Aggy's run was my kinda thing (man, I hope he's ok): just huge and stylish. But Semenuk is just so technically nuts and tricks off of everything.
  • - 8
flag torero (Oct 14, 2016 at 13:40) (Below Threshold)

  • + 12
Damn I miss McGazza... Frown Frown
  • + 7
Why wait until 10:30AM (MT) to start? Start at 8am just after the morning shadows are gone. The wind ALWAYS picks up in the afternoon here. Every year, wind causes injuries and/or scrapped runs leading to a really anticlimactic event.
  • + 11
How does a double backflip at Rampage not get best trick??? Really?
  • + 8
Less tricks but that run was dope as hell. Tommy G killing it. So fast. Reminds me of T.Mac's runs. Just fast, smooth, style. rad.
  • + 4
I feel he is always quietly in the background behind the big names. He is one of my favorites because he is always there. It speaks to his consistency and his comfort within the limits.
  • + 8
Semenuk must make it look too easy... I expected a high 80s given the scores so far
  • + 1
Me too... Wonder what the thought process was.
  • + 12
That's a consistent "problem" with his riding (Rheeder too) - it's so effortless I think viewers underestimate what he's actually doing
  • + 10
So far the scoring is pretty consistent, just lower on average than how many comps score. Guess they're just leaving room for someone to go insane and stomp it Smile
  • + 7
Mother freaking animal. Zink... way to be dude. Family first. Hope you're alright. That run was dope and I think you've got even more in it next time.
  • + 9
What the hell. Double backie super steeze gets an 81?
  • + 1
I don't think it was better top to bottom than Semenuk's, but it definitely was better than an 81
  • + 9
@src248: the scoring is consistent though. I think maybe they looked back at past years where someone would score in the mid-90's then the next rider would top them, then the next thing you know someone deserves 105
  • + 2
@plyawn: True, they're doing a good job. I do think he deserves the second place he's currently holding, a few points don't make a difference in that respect.
  • + 11
@plyawn: Judges did well, I completely agree with the top 3
  • + 8
Man if Aggy could have finished his run he would won the event. So much style and air.
  • + 7
Anyone else feel Antoine Bizet should've received over an 81 for a double back-flip?!
  • + 8
News from pretty much everywhere: REDBULL MEDIA PLAYER STILL SUCKS!

  • + 3
I thought this year was pretty cool. None of the riders complaining about money, insurance, or red bull stealing their GoPro footage. The location was cool, it was an all natural event and didn't look like a wild wild west movie stage. Maybe try starting at 8:30 or 9:00 if you know "the winds always pick up in the afternoon."
Also the words "exposure" and "greased".
  • + 3
x2 I think they really did a good job revamping the event for this year. Riders seemed happy too during build week. All the guest announcers hopping in the tent was really cool too. Very rider designed event, I can appreciate the changes they made. Good job Redbull and everyone involved.
  • + 7
What a shame both Brits are out! What happened to Sam, is he OK?
  • + 4
May have been brought up, and I know he's not a compeitior today, but maybe give the peoples choice award (the rock razor thing) to Paul Bas for his incredible bravery and hard work getting to where he is today
  • + 6
 Wooooooooooooo bizet you motherflipper
  • + 2
rampaging through 1st runs then....yawn such a shame for everyone who worked so hard digging and stressing on their lines they ran it on a friday anyway so why not do it at a time of day when they can actually ride without the wind blowing them off line? the winner walks back down the hill anti climax

or maybe i just don't get it? is it a spectacle for the masses and the sponsors or a hardcore event for the riders? if its the latter run it over two or three days and let the hard work amount to something

got sofa rage
  • + 2
Never wanted to bash the redbull player because it is free but when it just plain stops working every 10 seconds I think they are doing a disservice to the riders as we can't watch them properly!! gnarly as fuck though , semenuk so solid. Heal up aggy you nutter
  • + 6
These short descriptive sentences are exciting!!
  • + 6
I really thought Kyle was gonna win with that run. so bummed he crashed!
  • + 2
 Was definitely podium worthy
  • + 6
In other news, Semenuk's helmet is beautiful
  • + 4
Why are we talking about pedal slips at Rampage??? I feel like they are a small issue here. My opinion is that Rampage doesn't need to be a dialed event.
  • + 1
Given the size of drops, jumps, the level of commitment it has reached, you need to be 100% dialed. The smallest thing going wrong can turn a feature into a pretty nasty crash.
  • + 1
@polarproton: Yeah, for sure. I don't agree from a judging and scoring aspect though. If you get a pedal slip, I think it should hardly be considered in the judging. Were you talking about safety? I was totally happy with the event though.
  • + 1
@austinmc: I was talking from the rider's perspective. Slipping a pedal means the rider won't roll in with the speed or as dialed as he wish to be for the obstacle. Given the danger and the level of precision required induced by the size and exposure, the rider won't risk jumping/flipping the obstacle. And this has legitimately impact on the mark. Although i don't think a pedal slip would have any effect on the grading per se, such small mistakes have an indirect implication in the quality of a run. Smile
  • + 6
 Semenuk is not human.......
  • + 1
I think the judging was generally fair, perhaps Carson got a little hard done by as he went early but I don't think you can argue with Brandon's winning run. The people choice award was a farce! Riders leading who had not yet made a track in the dust. That should not have been open until at least each rider had done one run. I voted for Bizet as that double back flip was stunning, not a winning run but that was the stand out move and best trick for me. So great to see his redemption from crashing it hard last year when he so nearly made it. Props to all and healing vibes to Aggy! Can't wait to see you tearing it up again soon!
  • + 2
Cam McCaul is an amazing commentator. He did a great job filling the space with stuff that didn't feel overly forced. That other guy should go. Not sure why he was even there, just regurgitating Cam's words.
  • + 3
The other guy is Pat Parnell, and he's there because he is a professional broadcaster who has been doing action sports events for a long time. You have to have a guy like that to run the broadcast. Cam is great on the show but you couldn't just throw a couple riders on the air and expect them to carry the event for 4+ hours. It would be a disaster. A guy like Cam is there for analysis of the riding, not to announce the event. You have the professional like Parnell there do that. He handles the technical aspects of the broadcast like transitioning from run to run, throwing it down to the post run interviews with Tina, giving the rider backgrounds, transitioning from the I've broadcast to some of the pre/produced stuff the include, etc. Those are not things you could just throw a couple riders in there and expect them to do well. Broadcasting is a skill, you couldn't just expect a rider to jump in and do that.
  • + 5
My boss let me off early to watch this, fuck yes!
  • + 6
 2016... #BizetGotRobbed
  • + 21
No, not again. It's not a trick contest, but a freeride run. That double backflip was amazing, but he needs his run to be more complete. If it's for a single trick I think Carson's 360 was totally perfect and was so hard to do it. Both had the best tricks, but their full runs wasn't that spectacular as they need to be for a win. Still have their second runs coming, so they hopefully will do even better.
  • - 2
@mentalhead: All he need is 2 more backflips, 1 nose bonk maybe trade for huck or large drop?
  • + 5
@StFred: You're talking about tricks, I'm talking about lines - how hard your whole line is and how confident you ride it. Look at Andreu's 2014 line and you'll see what Rampage is all about. At least for me. And obviously for the judges too.
  • - 2
@mentalhead: My mind is like yours. To me, Semenuk´s like was not that huge. But, he filled with tricks. And he´s on the top spot now.
  • + 8
Double backflip is cool, and will probably win best trick. But it was done on the last feature of the course, with no exposure, and less consequence. To me, those 360s from Carson, Zink, and Aggy were way gnarlier and should score higher for the overall run.
  • + 5
Also, I was gutted to see Aggy go down. He was my pick for the win, and he was well on his way. Hope he's alright and heals up quick.
  • + 0
@mentalhead: are you serious? The reason Semenuk scored so high was mainly due to his tricks, they were pretty much slope style tricks. Bizet did a double backflip on first run and on his second run he did 3 and a sui, last year the judges would give Bizet a 100 probably. Lol. And andreu's second run did not deserve the same score as his first. Not much you can do I guess, just hoping everyone who got injured will make a full and complete recovery. Cheers

any update on AGGY yet? Hope your ok brother. You guys are the definition of humble toughness.
  • + 1
I cannot believe that, Andreu Lacondeguy did not score higher on his second round... strange... as he did a superman other than this good run... strange.. I just think he has been under scored.... shame...
  • + 2
Scoring should be based on the total combine scores of both runs. This way they would have to do both runs. And there be less DNS!
  • + 1
interestingly Redbull countdown clock at 1am said 17h42min , that would have put it after 6pm for me . Well , is that a total and lately typical RedBull tv mess lol Waiting for the replay instead .

Im a big Semenuk fan, but i believe they gave him too high of a score, too early compared to other runs
  • - 1
This is year RAmPAge is deplorable!
  • + 1
Guys, I think it hasn't been deplorable, but you know... I think last year was far much better. I think this year the prize goes to "Hardline" which there a considerable amount of jumps and it all was a well rounded event.

This time the RRampage, as felt a bit like "empty" to me... which in a way, I feel a bit like you drivereight. I know what you mean mate!!

Well, lets hope next year will be a better venue...
