I think it's really cool seeing that the MTB community and racing culture isn't consumed by blatant nationalism like some other sports. We all root for the riders and teams we like, regardless of where they or we are from or what our respective languages are. Sure, I'm from California like Gwin but I'm a Peaty fan and want to see him and the Syndicate on the podium. Ratboy needs a win too! Actually I want to see all the top riders do well...well except for the Atherton's, its time to knock them down a peg! JK! ;-)
I don't understand why people hate on the Athertons, they win because they work really hard for it, and they have a more professional attitude about racing than most.
If you've ever watched the old Atherton project videos you would know they're cool people too.
Having met them and done a few laps with Gee and Rachel at whistler 2 or 3 years ago they are deffinately cool people. I'm honestly surprised to see gee as 12th fastest in practice, I would've expected top 5 for sure.
Yeah totally agree you can see they train the hardest by how fast they go through the speed trap when you look at her he is absolutely ripped and rach is just dominating
I think its actually really cool we have different characters racing shown different styles on track and on the podium. Gee is behaving like you think a serious athlete would do.
Not saying the others are not serious athletes but its that mix of characters which makes the charm of the DH racing scene for me.
That can be applied to basically any sport where it relies on an individual's performance. I can't think of one where people are only cheering for those from the same country. Team sports with interchangeable players on the other hand seems to have the greatest number of people who are fans of a team simply because the team is located in their country/region.
I really like Gee for some reason, personally don't see why he gets so much hate just because he takes it seriously. People like to troll based on perception not that they have ever met him personally. As others have said, I used to watch the Atherton project and they seemed like a fun bunch. Maybe that's why I like him... serious enough to get the job done but still knows how to have fun.
People were the same with Nicolas Vouilloz. He was like the ultimate professional sportsman and didn't follow the "get pissed the night before the race" thing that a lot of "cool" riders did. A lot of people didn't like him as much because of his professionalism.
i cant stand gee atherton, the dude just bitches about the track, his bike etc..when things dont go his way , yea sure he is fast, works hard and thats great and all, but his personality screams im a douche who thinks im better than everyone else.
@teamdoa...exactly, and look where it got him - a bunch of World championships and World Cup championships. How you come across off the track is irrelevant at this level, and I'm pretty sure it's long way down the list of priorities for the pros. If winning tv personalities is what you need, then tune into commercial television...
Details are sketchy right now but apparently French UCI officials caught him injecting performance enhancing GMOs into his ankle before his first practice run and wouldn't allow him to participate.
Dont understand why people still ask why top riders are so far down the rankings or not even in the timed training runs. It's timed training, its optional, not required and no one is pushing it to the limit.
All peanut butter should be outlawed....horrible stuff...the way it sticks to every part of your mouth, and taints everything else that the knife touches, and kissing anyone who's eaten it
No way man...raspberry jam is the way forward
So damn shocking!!! Gee and feron got the exact speed at the first split and Brandog in 4th! Nice i just wonder how the qualies gonna be, so stocked for sunday
Mick had a big crash onto his right shoulder. No confirmation for the moment, but it seems like the AC was separated. More news later on the teams FB page.
EuanBisset145 is correct. On the first run, Aaron Gwin had the fastest first split at 1:01.511. On the second run Sam Hill had the fastest first split at 1:00.683. Sam's split on his second run was the fastest first split of the timed training session, counting both runs. Danny Hart also had a sub 1:01.00 first split on the second run at 1:00.782.
Am I missing something with these splits?? I see Gwin with a 1:01.5 for his run 1 split, which is the 2nd fastest next to Connor Fearon (1:01.3), and I see Sam Hill with a 1:02.4 ...If I'm missing something please let me know.
It's timed practice most riders stop on track mid run or go fast for part and cruise some parts. If you look on the timed training results again most riders have done 2 runs apart from Gwin and a few others who only did one run.
How you come across off the track is irrelevant at this level, and I'm pretty sure it's long way down the list of priorities for the pros.

Ohhh sorry i thought we were sharing pointless information, they might aswell scrap timed practice, no one really cares till raceday (timing wise)
