I was quite excited at the prospect of watching this race yesterday. Then I got up this morning, tuned in, and was instantly reminded of just how shit the coverage of the Crankworx DH race is. Still, 10 out of 10 for consistency.
  • 7 1
I mean, I sincerely hope there just showing the smooth bits of track and its not all like that? Only the very first bit looks any good.
  • 17 1
@patrick-marsh: Neethling's track walk yesterday showed some quite interesting sections, but they've been ignored in the race footage in time honoured Crankworx tradition. I believe the thinking was they might distract us from listening to Cam talking about King of Crankworx.
  • 13 0
@metaam: It's kinda the nature of every DH track - anything above the half-way point gets ignored by coverage because of the way they do the broadcasts. All of the interesting bits of this track were in the first minute or so, which we don't see.

I think that's part of what makes Andorra so good to watch - the flatter bit and motorway section is at the start, so the final half that we see in coverage is the super gnarly steep sections.

Basically any track intended to be televised should consider this. Do whatever you need to do to make up the length at the top, I don't care - but stick all the gnarly shit at the bottom pls.
  • 4 0
@Preachey: Redbull do a pretty good job of showing gnarlier sections higher up the track. Think Fort Bill, MSA and Val di Sole. Crankworx just show the open boring bits at every race.

It's free and you don't even have to put in any effort to enjoy it all... I'm sure they're doing their best with the budget and technical constraints they have. Great job Crankworx. Thanks for the great coverage all week.
  • 7 0
@Ride12: LOL because Crankworx surely faces budget contraints. Doyeeee. Coverage was absolute shit, call a spade a spade.
  • 9 0
@Ride12: Yes, it‘s free to watch. But consider how much advertising we‘re consuming with the free broadcast. I‘m certainly not complaining about that, but it shows that there‘s at least some money involved.

This isn‘t some dudes doing a livestream on fb in their free time. This is supposed to be a prestigious mtb event, and I think it‘s fair to critically review the livestream accordingly.

Crankworx race coverage has always been unbearably awful. It might actually be bad for the sport in the sense that it would turn newcomers away from ever wanting to watch other legitimate race broadcasts (world cups). I used to think the production team was trying their best but just missing the mark, but at this point I'm pretty sure they're just trying to troll the hopelessly optimistic folks who tune into each new event hoping for an improvement. ^_^

PS: Also super awesome to see Cathro up in 13th ahead of some big names!

Commentary is absolutely shocking for the downhill. Cringe worthy at times.
  • 15 4
Watch any American sports broadcast and it's the same, that's how they do it.
  • 4 1
after watching the dh i realize how good cam and martin did commentating the slopestyle
  • 1 0
Did the interviewer just say “ I couldn’t even form a sentence earlier , I was so excited to see you come down here today ?”, she needs a break !
  • 10 0
top tip for people thinking about watching the replay-dont bother the footage sucked the big one.
  • 2 0
yep, listen to Tippies podcast instead, way more entertaining
  • 9 3
start lists are bollocks, think PB are sabotaging their own competition. No Payet but Payet is racing, Harrison but Harrison doesn't race, Fredrikson for slopestye but hes not competing … list goes on.
Mighht as well randomise fantasy team choices.

Rant rant rant Frown
  • 2 0
 ^^This!!!
Same thing. I regret not saving a screen of the start list posted a couple of days ago - that one didn't have Matt Walker from UK, but in the end he was actually racing.
Harrison , Greenland and Bernard Kerr were on the start list, but were not racing, even though they were on the list on live feed.
I got reasonably good points after pumptrack, but it turns out it won't count. 2 hours of refreshing waiting for the roaster to open - wasted.
Generally - it seemed that PB cares about drawing people to this Crankworx game, well guess what - I won't be playing any more, it's a joke.

Shit, I missed it...now my slopestyle team is in for the downhill.
Wish me luck! Big Grin
  • 1 0
same here Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
  • 6 0
Michaela was struggling...she's needs some basic questions dont think it. Brook just won and she goes into the negative part of his race lol...awkward

  • 5 0
Do I need to continue this drinking game from yesterday?
  • 7 1
 Total clusterfuck.
  • 4 1
 I reiterate. Fkn amateurs.
  • 6 0
 Cathro 13th
  • 2 0
Bloody hell, not bad at all. Plenty of very quick riders behind him, too.
  • 4 0
If the surface is as smooth as that all the way down ,.then it’s a very poor excuse of a DH track ....BORING.
  • 1 1
Why was the start list for the women's so wrong? Seemed to suggest Anneke Beerten and Mathilde Bernard were seeded above Balanche and Cappelari and would start after them - hence my fantasy team was skewed. Hope the same isn't true for the men's.
  • 3 2
Yeah excellent will score 0 for Harrison...
  • 4 0
wtf with Harrison? why he was not excluded from a start list?
  • 4 0
Harrison AND Greenland. That’s my fourteenth spot torn to shreds....
  • 5 1
I agree - The only potential positive is that everyone else who knows anything about DH also had Charlie Harrison in their team - $280K down the tube
  • 1 1
@AlanMcCrindle: half chose brook I’m sure! And Weatherly in seventh in DH?! I lost any chance I had of winning that trip Frown
  • 1 0
Charlie was out with an injury bug was meant to race.@AlanMcCrindle:
  • 1 0
@Deanosmachineos1901: I had no idea! I was between him and brook as my only male racer... brook got 100 points and Charlie 0... I LOST TO FIRST PLACE BY 93 POINTS

I WOULD HAVE WON Frown Frown Frown
  • 1 1
@Deanosmachineos1901: Wow. Then I guess thank you PB for great in-depth coverage. I mean a heads-up would've been nice that a top World Cup racer is out...
  • 1 1
@chmurka3rg: Dude, they put in a great game, amazing prizes, sponsor and stream the event, cover all they can, for free. Not even the commentators knew until the last second.
You’re being quite unfair to the staff.
  • 3 0
Cullen McMaster must have had an awkward time on the hot seat. I was googling him hard with not much info to be seen Wink
  • 4 0
Yeah you could tell he knew something was up. I'd hate being stuck in a hit seat I knew i didn't earn.
  • 3 0
Adrien Dailly in 5th! Once again top Enduro racers show that they have the speed to compete at a high level in DH.
  • 1 0
Yeah, impressed to see Caro Gherig in 4th too!
  • 3 0
Some of my favourite racers weren't televised and start order seemed kinda out of whack. Frown
  • 3 0
ben cathro missing in the fantasy list as well
  • 5 0
 He is the fantasy list.
  • 5 0

  • 3 0
Cathro still up there with the big boys! Why isn't he racing WC anymore?
  • 3 0
Dude! @ben-cathro 13th place! Nice work for a vlogger.
  • 4 0
 Ben Cathro 13th Legend
  • 2 0
Is there any quali or timed training results?
  • 3 0
As it is said on the crankworx website:
"1 Run - no seeding run. Start order will be based on a combination of current UCI rankings and past World Cup DH rankings, Crankworx World Tour DH Series Rankings and results, and other relevant results."
So, there will be neither quali, nor TT.
  • 7 2
@eyjafjallajokull: the Startlist makes no sense. is Crankworks using Pumptrack standings to make the start list ? all of the top ranked women world cup racers are out of order. Mathilde BERNARD doesnt has a single elite world cup result but she is 4th from last for the women ?? and their are a bunch of top 10 women starting way earlier in the day than Tracey Hannah: Marine Cabirou, Kate weatherley and Carina CAPPELARI. this will put Tracey at a huge disadvantage as she will have a hundred other racers blowing out the track before she does her race run. and eddie master is 13th in WC standings after leogang but starting a hundred racers before all the other top pros ?

When does the fantasy get updated so we can switch our teams to the Slopestyle guys
  • 1 0
The Fantasy League has been updated and you can now edit your team for Slopestyle.
  • 2 0
Can anybody explain what actually happened with Cullen McMaster?
  • 1 0
A mistake in the timing for his run. I believe they use back up systems for challenges to times.
  • 2 0
Sandra Rubesam missing from the fantasy list
