Godzeik got robbed soo bad. Always wondered why it takes 10 minutes for these judges to figure anything out. Bmx judges throw out scores in seconds and there are way more tricks going down. Foot in the dirt Rheeder , calling bs on these judges.
  • + 7
@jorgeposada: ah yes with all your pro riding experience im sure you know best lol
  • + 10
@afforestation: For real. I thought the judging was fair.
  • + 12
@jorgeposada: i totally agree mate, emil's run was next level. And godziek...twister nohander was insane. Emil should have won this one, rheeder second en godziek third. but yeah i am not a pro either...
  • + 7
@mtbjelle: I could get on board with Emil having a better run as well, but would be only slightly better. Could go to either Rheeder or Emil. People saying Godziek got robbed are trippin. some really huge tricks, but missing the bigger tricks on more technical features. Emils run was seriously nasty
  • + 3
@George1220: I would go with Emil also. Basically no matter what your run is a foot in the dirt always looses, except in slopestyle mtg.
  • + 5
@jorgeposada: Yeah Emil's run was so much better, no slipped pedals and looked really good. Rheeder's run was good, BUT he slipped the pedal on last jump and also looked like he landed sketchy on every jump and trick. Emil should've needed to be 1st.
  • + 0
@jorgeposada: I'm with you. I'm no expert but I thought David's run wad amazing and biggest thing for me is I don't see Reeder doing a Twisted or double back flip.

Granted could be close but 8 odd points!! Punished for first run I think.

Also seems you get more point for being technically perfect rather then balls out awesome.
  • + 3
@jorgeposada: @jorgeposada: well no doubt godziek had the best tricks on regular jumps due to his bmx background. I believe two worlds first in competition. But he needs to improve on the slopestyle features like step downs boner logs and flat drops. Definitely my favorite run but 3rd ist fair
  • + 0
All 3 had great runs. They were talking Rheeders flat drop flip whip being the gnarliest, honestly not even close to twister big extension no hander to stomped landing. They seem to be scoring spin to win runs bigger than bangers every other year. Emil the only full clicked run stomped so I would vote him. There always going to be discussion about this, why are we watching, these guys are bonkers.
  • + 1
 @jorgeposada:

I was under the impression that Emil's run was flawless, the way everyone was taking about how he got robbed because Rheeder slipped a pedal. So I watched the replay, It was a killer run but it wasn't perfect. He landed underrotated on the last jump. And was out of control and crashed through the barriers. Rheeder slipped a pedal, but he didn't touch and was able to stop under control. As far as I understand, your run isn't over until you ride away under control. They were both incredible runs that could have been cleaned up a little, and either one could have won no one was robbed.
  • + 1
@damo: Ride away under control is exactly what the judge said why they didn't dock points from Emil even thru the barrier. Both runs had sketchy moments and awesome moments. All I know from 35 years of watching jump contests is you blow a pedal and put foot down in the dirt is auto fail-Rheeder. Will be interesting going into whistler, wish it wasn't 2 months away.
  • + 36
I really wish that Semenuk is coming back to slopestyle events... i mean i love his videos / video career but he always pushed the limits and it was even more intense to watch
  • + 31
Meanwhile, he s Living the dream life without any pressure and doesnt gaf lol
  • + 20
@RedBurn: you don't know that. What if it's still on the back of his head? Also being an artist isn't worry free.

What if he's waking up every morning wondering if Pinkbike's comment section still likes him?
  • + 5
@Milko3D: he's winning Rallye races in the meantime
  • + 6
@Milko3D: That's definitely the case. One of the most successful freeriders of all time, that has won every big competition multiple times, is a millionaire and is also crushing it in filming and rallying is sitting at home frantically browsing Pinkbike articles to see if his name is mentioned in the comments and is absolutely devastated when he doesn't get recognition by the most important entity in MTB: the PB comment section.

Let me grant you happiness at least for a little bit Brandon.... "I like you"
  • + 3
@SupraKZ: I...I think one of us doesn't get sarcasm.
  • + 9
Is it only here or redbull just cracked on Emil's run ??
  • + 2
@Milko3D: I'm playing along with it dude. Damn.
  • + 29
If Nicholi pull off what Godziek did, it think the judges would give it 96. but no it was David, not Rogatkin.
  • + 1
 Exactly! Frown
  • + 4
They just love to rob Godziek brothers.
  • + 0
Except Nicholi didn't pull off what Godziek did so your point is not founded in reality. Also Nicholi usually sends it really hard on the flat drops whereas Godziek did not and that's a big difference right there.

 Drinking Game :

1. at the start of a run pour your favorite shot
2. get ready to drink as soon as Cam say "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME"
3. drink the shot at any point Mikaila starts the interview
4. finish the drink and put down the shot glass just in time to answer Mikaila's question "HOW DOES THAT FEEL ?"
  • + 8
Not to be rude or harsh but Mikaila is not the greatest person at interviewing on the field. I feel so awkward watching lol
  • + 17
@seismicninja: Honestly it's so hard to make a career in sports like this if you're passed competing, so more power to her if she's getting paid and high five to her for finding something to remain a part of. Used to feel the same way but after a couple years of hearing all the woes about her, you kind of sit back and realize she isn't THAT bad. It's weird that only Pinkbike commenters seem to have an issue with her, I highly doubt any of the competitors or other prominent figures in mountain biking feel like they need to make this point about her at all.
  • + 3

  • + 2
You have been on TV. Congrats
  • + 13
I actually think she is doing ok at a very hard job. All mtb commentators are extremely repetitive ( Cam is the best at thisSmile )
Finish line interviews are generally crap ( in all sports)(and difficult)because the rider is either puffed for ages (so does not say anything) or in xtc ( +celebrates with mates ) or agony/pain ( and don’t talk) or nothing exciting happed so there is not much to say. And it is live. Also has a producer talking in her ear at the same time. It is also difficult to say anything original as the preshow has gone on and on and used up any interesting background to make a interesting interview. My advice to Mikailia is more preparation from the producers , 10%more self confidence and drink a REDBULL
Advice to cam drink less REDBULL @seismicninja:
  • + 4
@gcrider: maybe. Berrecloth should be the one doing the interviews after the runs though.
  • + 7
Better questions would help . I would like to hear more open ended questions. In the finish line interviews
So “describe the feeling of ... “ instead of “how does it feel “
“Describe your confidence has changed over this week?”. Or if there is a new trick.., “tells us about when you first thought of and then tried this trick. “
How many times did it take to first land it. ?
How long until you were confident in landing...
“ whats the biggest lesson you have learnt..?”
Or some sh!t like that . @REDBULLTV @REDBULLMEDIA
@seismicninja:
  • + 3
@gcrider: i think she does a great job, plus good eye candy haha, oh all the new skool pc vegans will neg prop me for complimenting a woman now
  • + 4
@gcrider: Good point! I always wonder how actually competitors manage to answer such an abstract questions right after their tough runs, such as "how does it feel?".
  • + 4
@ctd07: I think she can draw out different emotions compared to Cam&Co who do the hyped amped excited so well. So having Micayla here is good . Sorry for your misspelling your name Micayla
  • + 10
Drinking game: take a shot every time a PB member complains about whoever is announcing.

 @Chridel: idiot honestly grow up
  • + 2
Larry Merchant had a 50 year career doing this and we always thought he was halfway between out of his damn mind and totally insane. He'd come up to a guy who just fought 12 rounds of getting punched in the face and being completely exhausted and then be like: "So Manny... el nino weather patterns seem to have a global affect on seasonality and bird migrations in the northern hemisphere, couple that with man's eternal search for the meaning of life... how do you relate that to minute 2:36 in round 6 when Oscar overcame your combination technique?"

If he can make a career out of that dumb shit, she'll be just fine...

Awesome coverage of all the Crankworx events from Pinkbike, Cam, Tyler, Needles and Micayla. No monetary subscriptions and an epic free competition to go to Whistler, what's not to like? Beer
  • + 13
5 things we can take away from Crankworx Innsbruck 2019

1. If a rider chooses not to race DH finals or do their 2nd slopestyle run, it’s not Pinkbike’s fault.
2. Mikaila tried her best but it’s clear she wasn’t given any direction for the finish line interviews. The questions were awful and there was some awkwardness there for sure. Red Bull help her out if she’s going to be in the finish arena at Whistler.
3. Neethling was a great rider but was poor at commentating on the DH.
4. Barrecloth was very smooth interviewing indeed. I hope he’s holding the mic in Whistler.
5. Emil and Godziek were robbed.
  • + 17

Agree 100% except Godziek robbery. Help Micayla out. And Needles...not meant to be in front the camera, sorry mate.

Need to have Martin there always. He's the best and made it so much more entertaining than the last few over watched. His enthusiasm got me into every run. @Gouru:
  • + 16
Who’s up for a Tyler Mccual vs Cam Mccual arm wrestle? Winner takes on Darren Berrecloth on the livestream ????
  • + 6
Hahahhah way better TV than watching trees.
  • + 2
Berrecloth is quite smooth at interviewing indeed
  • + 18
 #GodziekGotRobbed xD
  • + 14
Not at all. If he had done better tricks on the drop, first hip, and step down he could have won it. Compared to Emil and Rheeder he was not even close to their level on those features
  • + 5
@sickdj17: I totaly agree. He's missing 2-3 bigger tricks to be a contender fro first place. Although he got point deduction on the first hip for the case, not the trick.
I must say the judging was really fair. Rheeder/Johansson could have gone either way and that shows in the 0.5 difference. And than from 4-10 place it was just insanely close. It's exciting to see that there currently are 3-5 riders who can win.
  • + 4
@jorgeposada: well no doubt godziek had the best tricks on regular jumps due to his bmx background. I believe two worlds first in competition. But he needs to improve on the slopestyle features like step downs boner logs and flat drops. Definitely my favorite run but 3rd ist fair
  • + 2
Thanks, i didn't watch and came here just to see who got robbed.
  • + 14
Someone buy glasses for the judges. Godziek run was at least 90pts. Rheeder gets 92pts for sketchiest run... Sad!
  • + 2
Could not agree more. It may have been a bit Moreno technical but it wasn’t worth 10 more points than godzieks run that’s for sure.
  • + 5
@jmcleod66: Fully agree man. I don't agree with what I'm about to say, but I have a feeling if you're first to drop in they score you low to set a bench mark for the rest of the athletes. Run 2 sores tend to be more precise.
  • + 1
Unfortunately I can definitely see that happening as well. @Richkphotography:
  • + 2
the only problem is that david's run was the 1st one and rheeder was the last one. No chance judges are giving a +90 on first run (unless is one of the top guys).
That being said, rheeder should have had a lowest score
  • + 2
godzieks was more sketchy and way less technical. Dont talk unless you actually understand how difficult the tricks are.
  • + 2
@afforestation: Dude, I think you got both riders mixed up.
  • + 4
@Richkphotography: dude, there's the reason they only let ex-riders judge. A flat drop flip whip is more tech than a twister, but you dont know or see that because you cant do either.
  • + 6
@afforestation: You can't say that Godziek was more sketchy, he was smoother than Rheeder (I'm writing this before their second runs). Just understand that that the first rider that drops in 1st gets a score that is slightly deducted to set a bench mark for the forthcoming riders. Godziek should have been scored higher. Period. If Godziek deserves more points than Rheeder, let's let the judges decide. If we on PB could perform those tricks, we would be in IBK right now.
  • + 8
Bro you got roasted on live by c-mac!! What an honor
  • + 4
@Richkphotography: he didnt have the overall effect. A run which has a straight 360 is basically impossible to win with. Emil and brett dont have a single simple trick. The judges know exactly what they're doing
  • + 4
Guys at Redbull TV thanks for roasting Wink if you are so keen on me judging. I'm happy to do so on the next stop in Whistler!
  • + 15
 Emil got robbed
  • + 14
EMIL GOT ROBBED as well as Godziek!!! Emil got Robbed!!! 1st Emil 2nd Godziek 3rd Brett
  • + 0
 @DigRenno: totally agree!
  • + 0
Brett did not win that! Emil and Godziek killed it. Imo that was B.S.!!
  • + 0
@DigRenno: Yeah you shouldn't get second for doing a basic 360 on the starting drop...
  • + 9
I wonder if they know....this ain't ESPN and on cable. You don't have to explain all the back story and act like its f'n competitive soap opera. YOUR athletes don't act like that and it's just Americanized dribble. Show some highlights of what they can do and get on with the competition.
  • + 8
Absolutely awesome event. Shout out to all the commentators. Makala I thought this ws your best one yet..great questions, Martin ad cam killed it of course ad bearclaw. Thak you red bull and congratulations to Emil on the comeback and reeder for the win

David G robbed out the gate
  • + 7
 Twister No Hander!!!! WTF!!! Beer
  • + 8
 Emil got robbed
  • + 7
Emil and Godziek both got robbed for sure.
  • + 5
Fedko was the most robbed-not a winning run, maybe not top 3, but sure as shit was good for 4th or 5th. Rheeder was over scored on run 1 and broke the machine.
  • + 4
Emil got robbed. Brett's 2nd run improved but nothing new. I still find it sketchy. I think the judges just gave it to Brett for a chance to win triple crown this year.
  • + 0
Brett’s 2nd did not improve enough over his 1st run to go up to first place.
Judge says they didn’t deduct his foot slip on last jump (2nd run) but then says they will deduct 5 points for afoot slip 30 seconds later while being interviewed by Cam & Martin.
Bullshit score for Brett, nothing new in his run, same 720’s and flip whips, yawn...
  • + 4
@chefjoel68: you mean flipwhip of the flat drop that noone else does or flip oppo doublewhip that also noone else does? Yeah, makes sense. But on more serious note, I do think that Emil deserved to win here, it´s not like there was anything missing in his run, Brett wasn´t his perfect self here and few landings weren´t too smooth as he himself said as well. David´s deserved 3rd but with higher score, with straight 3 of the drop and straight backflip of the whale tail he lost like 5points just there, even though I could see that without 360 the first drop maybe he wouldn´t be able to pull twister tuck no hander so I wouldn´t deduct too many ponts for that one, straight backflip hurt him more I think.
  • + 4
 @Mondbiker:
Dawid’s score should have been higher is what I meant, especially the first run, but he deserved 3rd.
Brett does do the flipwhips and opposites like no other, but there is just nothing new from even last year in his runs. Emil is pushing with more rotations and barspins and more complicated combos it seems.
Emil is def the going to be future king.
I wish Rogatkin would scale back just a little and finish a run, he is just pushing so hard and never looks smooth, lime the Tasmanian Devil! hahahahaaa
  • + 5
David G got F’$&k w/ no Vaseline not once but twice!

Cam and Martine need to step up and call that B/Sout
  • + 4
Emil and Dawid both totally got robbed. Brett is not doing anything new, so lame. Don’t like how smug he is, either.
  • + 2
 Agreed!! Frown Frown
  • + 1
Your name gets you points too.Sucks but it happens
  • + 3
he does lots new, but you cant see it.
  • + 2
And Emil does things that most if not all of the field doesn’t attempt. Emil landed all his tricks before disappearing.. Brett’s first run was smoother than his second.
  • + 2
Sooo, if event will be held tomorrow morning (CEST), hope there won't be any rosters overlap with IXS DH event. It would be nice if PB technicians add some computational power to overcome it.
  • + 3
Oh man Nicholi, what a crash! With all the adrenalin from the first crash, he should probably wait a couple seconds before he does the next huge trick
  • + 2
Must have been a real tough decision for Nicholi to back down, we all know the Russian/American mix makes him indestructible. Do we know if his Kali helmet has any technology to reduce forces transferred to the brain? Like other helmets?
  • + 3
@Richkphotography: Gutted for Nicholi, he's a tough b*stard, but It's good to see that Crankworx fully endorse concussion protocols. Helmet
  • + 4
Twister No Hander, Cashroll Bar, Double Backflip X-up - in a wildcard run? WTF?
  • + 1
SO EXCITED FOR EMIL! a little bummed he didnt take first place but rheeder stepped up under pressure. one of the better slope contests for sure. roghatkin just a nut ball, cash roll on the boner log after botching a run. always a pleasure to watch

  • + 3
Unfortunately I can see their hair moving and t shirts flapping about- I've seen events cancelled for wind when it's nowhere near as bad as this.
  • + 4
This is bullshit Godziek should be a winner
  • + 12
I dont think so he threw some bangers but had some super plain tricks on things like the drop and other more technical features
  • + 11
straight 360 vs flat drop flip whip? no hahaha
  • + 5
 Emil got robbed!
  • + 2
@sarahmoore I'm almost positive that Emil & Diego Caverzasi is healed up and ready to go tomorrow but the injured icon is still there?.

  • + 4
Godziek got robbed ! Should of got at least 94
  • + 1
Agree. His first run score was a joke which carried over to his second run score.
  • + 4
 dang another 30 minute delay

they could stream Downhill training in the meantime #forwardthinking
  • + 3
 Great event, worth the wait.
  • + 1
Emil and Godziek got raw dogged for sure. Zero Vaso for them. That’s Bullsh*t!! Hope the two can walk tomorrow since they got f**ked over.
  • + 1
Agree on Godziek. Not Emil. He scored a 95... with a crash. Think his score was just fine. Godziek should have been more in the conversation for sure. 93 or so at least. Had he done a variation in that back flip off the whale tale I think he would have been there.
  • + 0
@onemanarmy: I mean Emil should have won. I absolutely don’t agree with Brett’s score. He has put down some serious runs before and didn’t fetch that high of score. This run was watered down to what he has done in the past. Just because he threw that trick off the flat drop shouldn’t guarantee a win.

@Pisgah4life: It's not really that straight forward. He's had better runs on different courses in different conditions. Personally... I think if you look at Dawid score as reality... Brett and Emil should have both been a couple points lower.

He was flat dropping something no one else was really doing much off of. That alone gives him a boost. Then you consider how many people where coming up short on the first hit and it makes it that much more high risk. All that gives points. Then you go hit for hit the rest of the way and it was really freaking close. Emil clearly won the first hit with that quad. But I liked Brett's boner log hit better. I like his trick onto the whale better but Emil's better coming off. Etc. They went back and forth. Both did standard and oppo tricks. Both did variations. Brett's corks were beautiful and going back to back like that is hard as hell. Then the Back flip oppo double whip... that was insane. Wasn't clean landing but he kept his feet up and road out of it. Cleaner than Emil. Emil's landing wasn't clean either... and he road off the side of the landing and crashed. You couldn't really have hated on the judges if they didn't give that to him... but they did.

There's a reason it was so close. Looking at the score numbers is kind of the wrong way to do it. You have to look at the order and how close they were. I think they really were that close... if you give full credit for the last hit to both dudes. In a bmx contest I think they both get docked for that landing.

I think people undersestimate how gnarly his runs are. Same way people used to be with Shaun White. 1... people want him to lose. 2... he's so clean people think he's not doing as difficult of tricks.

I think had Emil won you could have gone... o.k. Sick. Well earned. But I think you have to do the same thing with Brett. Coulda gone either way.

Dawid cleans up his lines a little bit and does something besides a straight backflip off the tale... he's in the mix as well. My scoring would have been something like 94/93/92. LOL! Screw the decimals.

But seriously. This one was so close you gotta just give credit where it's due. I think the podium was accurate. Scores aside. I'm stoked on slope right now.

Anyone else curious if Rheeder had a few clif bars during the hold?
  • + 2
Interesting that Dawid is in but not Syzmon?
  • + 2
It is interesting why Syzmon is spelled incorrectly in fantasy contest Smile it should be Szymon, and he is recovering from injury - I think he is good overall but not ready for a full contest yet

Dawid won a wild card at Rocket Air

I'm not into dirt jumping, but this is next level. Sadly judging panel is the worst way to decide top dog. Props to Emils comeback and Martin's color.

Whole lot of misjudging going on by the judges today!

Why is the price of the riders changing? Lukas Knopf yesterday 45.000$ amd today 122.500$. I got pictures to proof it ya cheaters!

Is there a start list for the Downhill? Can't seem to find it anywhere...
  • + 1
 @edspratt or @sarahmoore any ideas?
  • + 1
@Jh4rty: There isn't a start list available at the moment but we will have a post on the homepage as soon as it goes live.
  • + 1
@edspratt: thanks very much dude! Just seen on the Crankworx page that they're putting the downhill on at 11:00 and the slopestyle at 15:30 - looks like the clash is sorted.
  • + 1
@Jh4rty: Yeah it should be all good tomorrow, let's hope the weather is good for the slopestyle. Once the start list is available you can find it here.
  • + 1
@edspratt: Cheers! Great work on getting this all sorted! Don't envy you guys one bit with all these changes.
  • + 1
@edspratt: Matt Walker is on the start list but not on the fantasy roster?

Anyone else notice how weird Geoff gulevich was being when Mikayla was in the judges booth?
  • + 2
 Where is Messere?
  • + 2
 he is alt 1
  • + 3
@jonaslp1: Max has already confirmed he won't be riding, so I'm guessing lil tony will be in
  • + 3
The date on the start list above is stated as "June 25th, 2019". It also does not match the one currently posted with the same "25th" date on the crankworx.com site, with Messere listed as Pos 9, BIB 6. So confusing.
  • + 2
@coregrind: We've updated to the most recent Start List from the Crankworx website now - thanks!
