Do people usually focus on your gender and ask stupid questions thinking maybe they are cute or do adults usually ask questions about your amazing success and even though you are female maybe how to get better and be successful so that they could turn this into a business?
@pigit77 It's not a McJob for $X/hr or year. You can't say Gee makes $$$ and Smith makes $$. It's negotiated and depends largely on past results. Compensation includes bikes, equip., team support plus performance bonuses for getting on the podium, etc. It's not as simple as saying '$70K'.
Sure it is. How much money goes into your bank account in a given year? Benefits do not buy groceries or pay bills.
However, I am not so sensitive like the rest of the USA that does not discuss salary. We have a whole group of industry professionals that share their salaries and benefits, making a list of the best companies to work for and which to completely avoid.
How do you feel about Redbull cutting down the women shown on the live feed to 5 from 10, or do you feel the positives of showing the racing out weigh any negatives?
def a negative, how can we expect sponsors to step up and sponsor up and coming racers if red bull doesnt include them in the coverage and the media barely publishes any pics outside of the top 5 girls (yep that includes you pink bike photo epic). If you want us to buy bikes, support the bike industry attend races - well then help us out by showing our progress....no we are not as fast as the top 30 or even 100 men or maybe even the juniors. but we are the largest growing segment of this sport, so step it up media
Why are you guys/gals running Shimano Zee instead of their premier line of Saints? When racing at the top, one would expect to have the best available.
I'm guessing that Tahnee and Neil Stewart are running Saint since they're the main WC riders, and the three kids on the development team are the ones running zee.
I ran Saints for years; however, I decided to try the Zee kit when they first came out and have been running since. I think the brakes are better than the old Saints, which were awesome. I haven't ran the new Saints, I'm sure they're even better, but point is Zee's will make most riders very happy, happy, happy.
neg props come from the pinkbike zealots. they cannot fathom that some zee parts are lighter simply due to the name zee being less expensive than saint. even simple facts cannot sway their disbelief. it's blasphemy to even suggest an inferior grouppo might be good enough or, god forbid, lighter than the more expensive counterpart.
In a GBMN video Mark Beaumont comments that he uses zee shifters because they do not have the double upshift feature on saint or XTR shifters. He states that he prefers to know that 1 lever movement = 1 gear so he can keep track of the gear he is in easier.
I was running Zee to promote the product to show it's just as efficient as Saint can be, but more affordable! I am now on Saint, while the juniors remain on Zee!
When your changing sponsors or considering it, how do you go about testing them? Do you have a track that is your basis and say ride both bikes the same day and compare times or just chill and see whats comfortable?
I don't have a specific track or anything, I just test the product when it comes and see how I feel on it. I tested a few other bike brands before the Transition but it's the frame I felt most comfortable on!
1. We are! We enjoy time together on and off the bikes, she's a really good friend. I can count on her and am so excited to see her get good results. Obviously we both want to win, but there's no hard feelings!
2. Manon's an amazing rider. We are both up there because we are head strong, determined and driven. I think at this level we all have skills on a bike, it's just down to fitness and mental strength.
3. TR500 sits a little higher than the Devinci, so it's easier to pop and hop in places. The Devinci had a low bottom bracket so felt fast in corners. Both awesome bikes. Nothing to moan about on either!
When you're warming up / spinning your legs at the top, what sort of music do you go for? Is it something chilled to relax you or something to get you pumped for the start gate?
Really depends what mood I'm in. Before a race sometimes I'm quite nervous and quiet so I need a little something to get my heart rate up, other times I'm confident and like a ball of energy so I need something real mellow!
So it is my final year of schooling and for my art I am doing a film on the dedication riders have. I am using TB and Dave McMillan's stories. Would you like to join my project if you had any free time to do a bit of filming while you are in Australia before the World Cup?
Damn right it would be sick, from what I have seen in interviews, her personality would suit what I am after perfectly - thought this would be the best possible time to ask haha
Hey Matt I'm not a female nor a World Cup racer but you can film me. I'll show you how dedicated I am to drinking beer after a sick session of mad cutties ay bruz!
My sponsors are great, I have really good relationships with them so I don't get treated differently.
You get the odd few perverted fans and you're just like "Really?! What do you do with your life?" but y'know there's nothing I can do about it! Haters gun' hate ;-)
No, I'm not a feminist. I'm human just like everyone else :-)
How to you tackle hard obstacles for the first time? You just go for it or maybe you wait, watch other people doing it, ask someone who did it, things like that. Basically, how do you prepare yourself mentally for something huge?
Hahaha this is funny because you got it SPOT ON. Sometimes if I'm feeling good I just go for it, without a worry. Othertimes I'll sneak up to Manon's pits and be like "sooooooo.... y'know that jump....." hahaha
There is often big time gaps between the top 5 women and the rest of the field at world cups. Is this because the lack of support for female riders or is the talent pool (at world cups) just not that deep?
I wouldn't say it's a lack of support, because a lot of sponsors out there do support women. The top women have THE support because they are at the top. It's a male dominated sport, so it's obviously a smaller field, so there will be bigger gaps in the times and no one to fill them in. It would be great to see more women up there for sure.
Why do you think women from the UK dominate world cup DH? Manon, Rachel and you are a very formidable group and nearly did 1-3 for the overall last year
Ummm, well. The men are exciting to watch. But it's the same at the women, the top 5 are the most exciting. We have the same track, same jumps, same conditions.
Now talking about that: do you miss the french competition? Or actually any other nation. It's a world cup in the end, do you feel that or is it too much like a big BDS at the moment?
I would love to get a motorbike and actually get good at it, will have to save some pennies! I just try and ride when possible, and make the most out of it.
According to your Instagram account, you obviously love fashion and shopping. Do you get negative feedback regarding that within the MTB DH industry / community, because they think it's too girly for the DH sport? (btw i totally disagree on that). And of course, I ask for my girlfriend : o
Are you reeeeally asking for your girlfriend though? ;-)
Anyway yes I love clothes/food/scenery. My instagram account is for me to just share with you guys what I love. The only person that will have a go at me is my Dad because he thinks its boring ;-) Which, to a certain audiance, it is. To others, it's not.
Well, things are a little different here. Kids are usually get overwhelmed by schoolworks and there are very few work opportunities for them. And many parents would think DH is a high risk sport and don't want their kids to participate. But fortunately there are more open-minded parents than those narrow-sighted ones.
Haha, I know what he meant. Actually, if you want to, you can be a beggar in the subways in many cities in China. Believe me, you'll earn yourself a V10cc in no time.
I've been to Scotland many times, Edinburgh, Fort William. Glasgow... great place, nice people. Of course there are always something not good enough, in Scotland, in China, in any other place on this planet. Anyways, you guys are always welcome to this country, like it or not, it's definitely worth visiting, and riding.
You have to get a job. The biggest thing holding your back kid is paying for your bike that brakes all the time. pursue your passions. My parents were very against it for the longest time. I payed for my own bikes tools taught myself how to fix my bike and was a soccer referee to pay for it all. The last 2 years of high school I was team captain on my team and my parents showed up to one race my last year and were blown away. They saw the positive influence it had in my life and they were finally ok with bikes. stick to your passions!
Way to go buddy! Things are different here as kids in high school will be facing loads of paper works and exams all day every day and barely have time to do things they really like. But I can see the attitude and passion! Keep it up!!!
Its not that having a job or having school is a hard part is just balancing having school and a job was riding... I think that's the point he was trying to make.
+1 about what KonaChina says. Never been to China yet myself, but from what I've heard higher educated children in China tend to have a totally different way when it comes to going to school. Much more like the Japanese are known for, very much pushing the highest grades as possible and having a lot of pressure to score well. Where as here in the Netherlands there is a thing we call Sixes-culture, which means getting a 6 out of 10 points is enough to pass the exam, so why would you want to "waste" more time studying when a 6 is enough?
Really hope to make it to China within the next 5 years. The culture seems so interesting and there are so many things I want to see there. Obviously I would hope to ride my bike over there aswell.
Thanks @KonaChina ! If I make it there with my bike I will let you know . Same if you're ever in The Netherlands. We don't really have great trails though but always happy to show people around
Exactly like @tahneeseagrave said... You can have fun on just about any bike. Many skills to learn and so much fun to be had. Small jumps, wheelies, skids and just plain riding can be done on any bike. And like @dk1996 said...stick to it and if it points you in the right direction, they'll most likely come around. My first bmx was absolute crap, but I still kept it shiny...and to me it was everything.
Did Transition Bikes reach out to you or after watching the Transition Patrol edit about the new T.I.T.S technology you thought that riding for them was the ONLY CHOICE
I love that in a video you were in once you described yourself as a scaredy-cat. Obviously you're not but it made me feel better about getting scared myself on big drops, jumps etc, - something us men sometimes find difficult admitting! So thanks. And now the question: how do you overcome your fears, both on and off the bike?
I would cut the mens finals in half and only have top 40 qualify. Maybe the other 40 have a different catogary. I would also cut the juniors field as there are sometimes 100+, and they all qualify so the track gets beaten up and you end up with too many people on track.
Hey tahnee, I ride dirt and slopesyle (I know it's not your discipline), and I already have a first sponsor, but my question is: is it better to wait till sponsors come to you? (Do They?) or is it better to apply for a sponsorship? PS: Good luck in the upcoming saison!!
Can you notice a difference going from a carbon frame in the Devinci Wilson to an aluminum frame in the Tr500. Or do you feel carbon is kind of overrated?
We are digging a new track at Moelfre on the 7th of Feb, are you free to come and give us a hand and some advice with your knowledge of some of the worlds best tracks?
Hi Tahnee, is there any way how to get some stuff with your signature on it? Because my girlfriend is your biggest fan! She likes every single photo that you upload, her favourite number is 57 after she started folowing you, she watches your videos for 10x a day and she really likes you a lot.. So I have an idea to surprise her with anything from you, is there any way how we can contact? (mail or something) Please, she would be verry happy.
Do you think you need access to big mountains to be a successful female wc racer. I think on technical bigger tracks like val di sole riders without experience on that sort of terrain are behind the eight ball from the start and are playing catch up for years.
Tahnee, you obviously work closely with Kaos and your dad on the team. Does this effect family life or is that kept separate to the proffesionalism while training/racing?
I really wish it wouldn't interfere with family but it puts a big strain on us considering HQ is home and my Dad is my manager. Prettu sure I don't get is as bad as Kaos though ;-)
What is your all time favorite race and why? And what is your motivation to keep going even after a result that was far from ideal? I'm a self supporting racer as are many others here and I know for me sometimes after bad races I have trouble finding the motivation to keep going.
Howcome FMD Racing isn't riding Devinci's anymore? And was there a cooperation/contract with Devinci cycles supporting FMD Racing before you teamed up with Transition? Thanks for taking time to answer and all the best for your next season!
Devinci already have a global team, so it was always going to be hard to develop and take steps with them with FMD. Transition are a great brand, plus their interest to support us was by far the most warming.
Well, the track at Mont Sainte Anne was new and I hadn't walked the track so hitting everything blind was quite hard. It would have been nice to do a track we know!
As a female rider, you often get asked gender based questions that most male riders never get asked by reporters and fans. Of these questions, which would you most want the male riders in the sport be forced to answer?
Were you academic at school or were you distracted by thinking of how your time could be better spent? ( also best of luck for the 2016 season with the new team)
I was until about 15, 16 when my interests changed and I was so close to racing world cups. Now that i'm not a know-it-all teenager I've started studying again!
hello, I am your Chinese fans. This years Chinese have a great update in downhill. I want to know if you have chance to come to China will you come here? Do you like to ride in China? I am expecting you to come!!!!!!
Strong relationships whether thats love or friendship always stay. They understand my job and my commitment and have always supported me. I just don't get invited to anything naymore because I can never make it
My mental approach has changed, and that changes the lot. I'm fully prepared for this season and can't wait. My goal is to get that top step! It's the only one left to get!
what noises do you make insiode your head when ragging it? i used to do an inward whistle whenever I got any air and my buds nicknamed me R2 for a while. those buds play golf now but im still well sick
I wanted to wish you luck before a race but you looked extremely nervous and uncomfortable so I shied away from saying any thing. Should I wish you luck or leave you alone? All the best for this season, Im a big fan!
How do you put up with my brother? I struggled... Haha but on a serious note... How do you put up with these creepers on pinkbike asking for your number and your snapchat?... ????
Do you find it hard to find a good balance on your bike setup with your light weight. What tire pressure do you normally run? Are you more of a finesse pic a line, hop over the trash type of rider or point and shoot the shortest path crusher?
Hi, it's a cold British evening and you have to choose a filling for a nice soft but warm baguette!! What's your choice, I'm going g for some good quality sliced beef with a good strong melted cheese and a little fresh onion u can't have ham and cheese lol -- good luck 4 the future.... AndyD
Never met anyone tell you what you are and arent capable. Including yourself. Your body is capable of amawing things, your mind just needs to believe it!
Basically, is there any special mind training in off season time? I mean, do you come over an uphill to see some sunset and free your mind? Or maybe a special trainer in the team? Thank you
Hey Tahnee! I am a big fan and you are an amazing inspiration to many women. Any words of advice to a beginner that wants to participate this summer in a "race"? Any work out tips , words of wisdom?
When you get injured or have a bad day and feel like you can't go on, what makes you get back up again? Is there a phrase that someone said to you one day that repeats in your head when you're down? Do you think it's something people are born with, or can perseverance be learned?
What advantage does height play in DH racing? I know I could've asked this of any DH racer regardless of sex, but might this be more of an issue among women?
Cheers from Cuba, Sancti-Spíritus. We see lots of your races, your videos, unfortunally we can't see then live but when we can get then downlaod we do. Wishing you all the best with your new bike and team.
I'm a young downhiller just about to start my 2nd season, what is your best advice for improving my speed while also improving my air control? (two things I am trying to work on)
The women's field is strong. I think last year although I had some pretty good results there was only one race where I felt like I was a threat. I want to be battling close for that number one spot.
Do you will come back this pre season to Portugal for train ? andddd What do you think about our tracks do you think we have conditions to have a WC race ?
What other riders do you tend to hang about with of the track or around the paddoct? also good luck in the new season and hope to see you on the podium.
Hi tahnee
First off good look for the up and coming season
Would just like to get some ideas of the best exercises to build upper and lower body strength.
Do you like to keep your bike set up with the same configuration all season, or do you like to play around with compenents, tires, and suspension settings?
I don't think I get over them, it's natural, i've got used to them and deal with them in a positive way. If I wasn't nervous I'd have to start worrying!!!!
How it's possible i'm slower than you, Rachel, Manon ecc...but i jump way higher? (I'm a boy that do only downhil not dirt jumps) You have crazy speed but if there's a jump a bit big it's a problem... it's really strange! Can't understand it!
Jumping a bike has nothing to do with strength, its all technique; there's no reason women can't be better.
Yet it seems even at world cups the women's riders trying to clear the jumps is a complete embarrassment. The women's 4X and non-existent 'freeride' scene is even worse.
So why do girls suck at jumps? Is it a lack of talent pool to start with? How do we change this?
It's not really a skill level Most of the WC jumps are designed for the guys who carry more speed. A good example is Manon Carpenter (a great jumper) at Fort William where she had that huge off near the end. If the track was designed for the lighter female riders to carry speed she would have cleared it easily, but then the guys would have been going too long.
Few questions : *How is the french speaking yourself different than the english one? *When it comes to riding, and out of the usual cliches, what are the main differences between the UK and France? *Do you ride your brakes moto or euro style? *When you put the helmet on, what is your favorite curse word? *So, Tahnée, do you like movies with gladiators?
Hell your comment made me laugh- did you really go on Instagram and tell her you love her? Dude that is tragic. I'd recommend ODI lock-ons- cos you need to get a grip!!!
Only one question... Will you marry me? I'm very serrious! And one more thing... HOW you are SO beautifull, just like an angel... How many kids do you want? Respect..
However, I am not so sensitive like the rest of the USA that does not discuss salary. We have a whole group of industry professionals that share their salaries and benefits, making a list of the best companies to work for and which to completely avoid.

Do you have a track that is your basis and say ride both bikes the same day and compare times or just chill and see whats comfortable?
Best of luck this year
1. You and Manon seem to be very close. How would you describe your friendship?
2. When it comes to racing/skills, what do you think is/are your advantages over Manon? Which areas/aspects do you think does she have you beat?
3. Any thing about the feel of the Wilson that you miss? How does the TR500 rack up against your old bike?
4. Lastly, would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or 1 horse sized duck?
What type of Duck?
and when you say horse, do you mean Falabella, or Clydesdale?
1. We are! We enjoy time together on and off the bikes, she's a really good friend. I can count on her and am so excited to see her get good results. Obviously we both want to win, but there's no hard feelings!

4. Ummm, what?
Actually can anyone post me some? Probably still be warm by the time they get here if they are fresh out the volcano they seem to cook them in.
How do you deal with the objectification lain on you by perverted fans?
Are you a feminist?
Thanks, and good luck this Season, Tahnee.
You get the odd few perverted fans and you're just like "Really?! What do you do with your life?" but y'know there's nothing I can do about it! Haters gun' hate ;-)
No, I'm not a feminist. I'm human just like everyone else :-)
Sometimes if I'm feeling good I just go for it, without a worry.
Othertimes I'll sneak up to Manon's pits and be like "sooooooo.... y'know that jump....." hahaha
Good luck for the season! All the best from Brazil!!!
ride like Jeffrey
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKiVK0YJhQI
and you'll never ride your MTB again
And of course, I ask for my girlfriend : o
Anyway yes I love clothes/food/scenery. My instagram account is for me to just share with you guys what I love. The only person that will have a go at me is my Dad because he thinks its boring ;-) Which, to a certain audiance, it is. To others, it's not.
Good luck for 2016.
Do you have a special diet/training program that you follow for the off season?
If you were put in charge of the UCI what changes would you make?
I ride dirt and slopesyle (I know it's not your discipline), and I already have a first sponsor, but my question is: is it better to wait till sponsors come to you? (Do They?) or is it better to apply for a sponsorship?
PS: Good luck in the upcoming saison!!
I really wish it wouldn't interfere with family but it puts a big strain on us considering HQ is home and my Dad is my manager. Prettu sure I don't get is as bad as Kaos though ;-)
Does it ever go too far, especially when there is such a ratio of Men to Women in Downhill?
And wish everyone would just get on with it? ;-)
BTW - Top Team and wish you, Neil and your Bro an awesome season. Must be great to know Matt's got your rig A1 too...
Haha thanks:-)
Thanks for taking time to answer and all the best for your next season!
2. Come and race in our backyard race series! last round we all got pissed, crashed into each other and I broke my wrist. Its great!
* I hope so, and I will keep fingers crossed during the whole upcoming season
And how have you trained to close that gap this year?
What percentage of your off bike training consists of curls for the girls?
A) 66%
B) 88%
C) 104%
I know you can speak french also, how have you manage to learn it ? what is your favorite french expression ?
Good luck this season!
How does the new bike feel compared to the old 1?
Good luck this coming season.
also good luck in the new season and hope to see you on the podium.
BTW best luck !

if yes then how you felt this kind of riding?
if no, then why?
a) To be a successful racer?
b) On behalf of the team?
b) I've turned down a few big offers because i beleive in the potential that FMD has. Again, NOT a sacrafice.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks tahnee!
Good luck for 2016 ????
tea or coffee?
batman or spider man?

When going through tough times, what is your biggest source of inspiration?
Yet it seems even at world cups the women's riders trying to clear the jumps is a complete embarrassment. The women's 4X and non-existent 'freeride' scene is even worse.

If not, then no.
who is your male & female less favorite rider ?
and why
*its a rubbish joke
//someone had to ask
Good luck this season!
