gwinning from ear to ear.. no doubt
  • 7 1
@hangdogr: Naw, those new drivetrains are supposed to be pretty silent ... (when shifting geers)... never mind.
  • 55 3
gwin back after injury - he had to see where he really stacked up. stoked for gee as well - i hope he keeps shutting up the haters.
  • 43 0
I really hope to see gee on the podium again soon
  • 12 1
Gee got a top ten last round with a flat tire
  • 7 2
or he took a laughable run farting around yelling YOLO and still slotted in like a beast?

World champion is here watch out frenchies!
USA USA ????????!!
  • 20 1
@MJ4LIFERIDER: the world champ is French bro...
  • 1 4
its only timed training. its not like you can compare times. I doubt gee will do anything special anyway
  • 1 1
@madmax245: @madmax245: Gee's results have been improving every week. He's getting healthier after monster injuries & he's set to hit top 3 this week.

As for timed training, there is something to this results this week. All the top dogs went hard for a reason. Qualifying has ZERO points to chase so racers are going to qualify based on the projected weather forecast so we may see a wacky start list to try to get an early run in the dry.

Games are being played this week.
  • 1 0
Well looks like Gee did pretty good in qualies! No points, so its more like a glorified timed training, but still good for him. Big confidence boost hopefully
  • 2 1
@madmax245: how does that crow taste? ????
  • 2 1
 Like a big hairy p@$$=!
  • 26 1
Whoa! Gwin 4th in timed training?????? He never does that. I guess there aren't too many lines to choose from, nothing to ponder? So he just went with it?

Must be them 29 wheels. Wink
  • 5 0
Probably wants to see whrre he is at
  • 4 1
@ORTOGONAL555: After watching the course preview it doesn't look like there are many lines. Pretty straight forward. Might as well open it up and see whatcha got.
  • 3 0
I think he’s testing his thumb as much as the big wheels.
  • 2 2
Hell yeah Gwin with a chill lap dialing in the two nyner, i guess he's getting pretty cozy on it already! Warming up for race day and then worlds. And Maes sussing out the field also. Hoping he sneaks into the top 10!
  • 28 1
Gwin wanted to slow down, but them wagon wheels just kept rollin
  • 16 0
How can he even jump without playfulness?
  • 7 1
 @mollow: Dutifully and with purpose!
  • 18 0
Martin Maes is on fire (7th). The Whistler win is raising confidence I see. Haha he was joking on Wyn TV whether to take the enduro bike for a spin. WYN BROOK AND MAES FOR THE WIN.
  • 17 1
7th in TT? THE MAN IS ON THE FORM OF HIS LIFE!!!
  • 5 0
Go Maes! Let's smoke them bitchesssss
  • 2 1
It would be interesting to have Rude and Hill jumping more often too to DH WC racing... I think many would be surprised... my theroy is this guys are way fit (and technichally) enought for endorse DH WC racing... even they can take it like a recovery week and fine tune the speed...
  • 2 0
 Allez Martin!
  • 2 1
@PauRexs: Hill might actually be able to win a DH World Cup one day. But he needs to train very hard for that. Who knows what's gonna happen
  • 1 0
@leopaul: the guy is still 21 ... still one of the youngest EWS riders and already years in the Elites...
It means his real power is yet to grow...
  • 21 2
 Gwin’s time 2:21.16
2*21 - 16 = 26!
Ain’t dead!
  • 4 0
Nice one... stay with the force
  • 18 0
Gwin on a timed training results sheet????
Interresting....
  • 4 1
Aaron usually leaves a lot on the table during training, and I can't help but think that's because he's so confidently at the front during the race. Does this indicate that Gwin isn't as confident on his return, or with the wagon wheels? If we compare against Pierron, who usually tries to go full-gas during training, either Gwin will have a challenge on his post-injury hands, or he was taking it easy and still managed to go faster than intended.
  • 2 0
@PHeller: makes sense to do it on a return from injury, so you can gauge if it’s worth going full bore on race day, risk it for a biscuit...
  • 2 0
@PHeller: I believe its strategy. He’s getting in their heads, letting them know he is here to win and will be a threat come raceday.
  • 2 0
@PHeller: gwin is confident... i listened to a interview of him on vital, he trying to get as much testing as he can on the 29r so he can get it dialled for champs.. testing the bike at full gas makes more sense..
  • 1 0
@PHeller: I reckon he's just stupidly quick and was still reeling it in. I think big wheels really suit his riding style.

Rider and Spectator Safety in France? Why are they using Electric Fence posts with metal spikes to mark the course?

4.3.007 The entire downhill course must be marked and protected using non-metallic, preferably
PVC, stakes (slalom stakes) 1.5 to 2 meters high.

The required height stops riders landing on top of the post and nobody wants a plastic pole with a metal spike (javelin) flailing behind a rider that has run wide.

The TD should have been all over this on the pre-course inspection.
Technical delegate
4.1.012 For the Olympic Games, world championships, world cup events and continental
championships a technical delegate is appointed by the UCI.
4.1.013 Without prejudice to the responsibility of the organiser, the technical delegate supervises
the preparation of the technical aspects of the event and serves as a link with UCI
headquarters in this respect.
4.1.014 If an event is promoted at a new venue, the technical delegate must carry out an
inspection in advance (course, distance, location of feed/technical assistance zones,
installations, safety, event race schedule, etc.). He meets the organiser and prepares an
inspection report without delay for submission to the UCI mountain bike coordinator.
4.1.015 The technical delegate must be on site at least one day prior to the first official training
session and must carry out an inspection of the venue and course in conjunction with
the organiser and the president of the commissaires' panel. He coordinates the technical
preparations for the event and ensures that the recommendations made in the inspection
report are implemented. The definitive version of the course and any changes are the
responsibility of the technical delegate. In cases where a technical delegate does not
have to be appointed under article 4.1.012, this task falls to the president of the
commissaires' panel.
4.1.016 The technical delegate must attend the team managers' meetings.

Let's hope everyone stays safe! In future, people, do your job.
  • 2 1
 So who's the TD?
  • 7 0
 @Verbl-Kint:
Turbo Diesel, like Vin Diesel, but fluttery.
  • 10 0
Ben Cathro should be doing Course Previews!! He's not Claudio, but he can talk and bike, and ride like a mofo.
  • 12 0
Elliot Jackson would probably be pretty cool as well. Could give good technical insight.
  • 1 0
@mixmastamikal: f*ck yes. This would be brilliant.
  • 12 2
so gee atherton aint dead ?
  • 8 2
Gwin’s gameplan, as overhead talking to Martin Whiteley: “So we’re going to have spectators lining the course yelling ‘Surrender!’ as all the Frenchies race by?”

Whiteley: “Yes! Peirron, Bruni, Vergier, all of them will just automatically let go of the bars and raise their hands, immediately crashing. It’s genetic. They can’t help themsleves! Muah ha ha haaaa”
  • 1 1
lol That's SO bad. I'm sort of ashamed for laughing.
  • 1 0
Somewhere Jeremy Clarkson is smiling and doesn't know why
  • 6 3
Didn't France help the colonies form the United States of America in the American Revolution?

I guess Team Commencal could line the course and shout 'Quick, someone is threatening the right to give a small child access to a weapon likely suitable for a war zone in case our government becomes a tyrannical dictatorship and we need to arm the people against an army containing the strongest and most advanced weapons in the world.'
  • 2 0
 @dubod22: Sure why not
  • 1 0
@dubod22: Thank you! That’s been my argument all along.

After last world cup i said here that Gee will take a podium, now we can go home. Qualis and race day are for pussies.

Captain America (Aaron Gwin ) on the F1 29er D.H. bike doing some speed ,can't wait to see him race, i have a good feeling about this race

 Course Preview: youtu.be/eaA8kUm5bwQ
  • 2 1
This could be really bad for all other riders if Gwin is happy with his 29’r. A rider like him that is pumped on a new bike/setup could mean total destruction! I predict a win with 3-5 seconds on the rest of the field.
  • 3 0
3-5 seconds? On this track? You do realize that would mean he lapped the competition, right? Wink
  • 2 1
 It’s Gwin though! It’s possible.
  • 2 0
It would also be the nail in the coffin of tweener wheels.
  • 2 0
29” wheels don’t give that much of a speed advantage. All the manufacturers are scrambling to get the 29” designs dialed in but it’s not like 27.5” wheels aren’t winning. They are. I would think by this time that anyone on a 29” should be smoking all the riders on smaller wheels by seconds. This is simply not the case.

Bulldog has been the master of timed training this year.
  • 3 0
Yes! Hopefully this is the start of something for gee

 2 minutes track?! #whybother #seaotter

Martin Maes is going to be on the box this weekend

Do we still not have a course preview?
  • 2 0
Pottie did one , its on youtube somewhere

Cool thanks. Course looks super rough but is also super short!

Claudio was apparently the only person who could not die and do it successfully and then his luck ran out.
  • 2 0
dang I was hoping mick hannah would be back for this...
  • 2 0
 Where's my man Bruni at??
  • 2 0
ya joe! would love to see a big result to end the year from him
  • 2 1
How do we get Gwins opinion in the wagon wheels???
  • 3 1
He said in an interview he likes them better than 275. But then again loic bruni likes 275 more so make of it what you will. Rider skill might play a factor but I'm not sure yet.

flag PHeller (Aug 23, 2018 at 11:39) (Below Threshold)
@ibishreddin: Gwin also likes to win races. To him, preference will be made likely based on the stability and overall speed. Some guys might prefer the smaller wheels for their ability to change lines easily, or feel more comfortable in the air. Gwin is probably the least loose, least stylish rider out there, but he wins races, and with Pierron now being dominant on the big wheels Gwin probably recognized the need for bigger guns. It's gonna be a good race.
  • 6 0
@PHeller: if you think Gwinny is not stylish go watch 3 minute gaps AG segment. You will be shocked.
  • 4 0
@PHeller: He said he has been waiting for this for a while, I don't think this is in response to Pierron. I would say this has been in the work since last year.

 Where's Hart?
  • 2 0
 Behind Maes
  • 1 0
@Trailstunter: Lol ... well... yeah... sorry, that was sort of rhetorical. He's been at the top in TT recently, and this round was supposed to be muddy, so... anyway....
  • 2 1
 I think Gwin will win
  • 1 0
