Prize Details

AlpX // Blackcomb Helicopters is celebrating the grand opening of a new heli-bike trail in Whistler, BC. Riders will be flown to the high alpine in a remote area between Whistler and Pemberton. With options for both Intermediate and Expert skill levels and a mix of technical and flow trail sections, there is a wide variety for all riders. In summer 2022, bikers can expect to ride 7.5km of trail down 1300 meters of elevation drop on this incredible adventure through the Sea-to-Sky backcountry. AlpX is a new adventure specific division of Blackcomb Helicopters.

To make this prize even greater, Nita Lake Lodge is including 3 nights in two of their lakeview suites for your stay. These rooms offer breathtaking views of glacier-fed Nita Lake from your patio or balcony and a beautifully flowing space that will tempt even the most ambitious adventurer to relax.

Additionally, food and beverage will be provided by Gibbons Whistler. With their first establishment in 1979, they have since grow from Whistler’s first pub, to the proud owners of the Longhorn Saloon, Buffalo Bills, Tapley’s Pub, the FireRock Lounge, Garfinkel’s and more.

And what kind of trip would it be without bike rentals? Comor Sports is happy to provide the right bike for your trip, whether it be a full suspension rig, or a valley trail commuter.

Mountain bikers and Bike Media: We want more sustainability and environmentally friendly products and packaging!

Also Mountain bikers and Bike Media: Let's burn hundreds of gallons of fuel to fly freaking helicopters into that beautiful wilderness so that we can bomb down it!

ewww... the indoctrination is strong with this one

 Maybe it is an Ehelicopter
  • 23 9
Absolutely. Keep the helicopters etc OUT of the remote backcountry. Haven't we made enough of a negative impact om the planet as it is.

 Helibiking is overrated anyway

 @rcrocha: underrated comment

@cirque4: @cirque4: Come on dude.... There is an industry built around heli skiing/biking estimated around 300 million per year for BC. They're fully booked years in advance so the demand is there from people who want access to back country terrain... If you want to keep heli out of the backcountry then we should probably close resorts like Whistler as well as people fly in from all around the world to ski there every year. International flights emissions for people coming to enjoy a few days at a resort are no different. Hell, lets just shut down tourism all together. You can feel how you want to feel and make your own choices about how you want to control your emissions but drawing arbitrary lines where you feel things are acceptable or unacceptable for others to take part in is something out of your control.

If you want to minimize your negative impact on the planet, don't have children, its about the greenest thing one can do. People can neg prop all you want but its the truth.

I love the idea of burning fuel to ride trails like that. Bring it on. I'm on earth for the experience.
  • 7 6
I just want people to stop saying "sustainable" because it is a farce. No matter how much you kowtow to environmentalist they will tell you that you you're still a piece of crap destroying the earth.

The $500 travel voucher should just about cover the gas costs from Squamish. Stoked.

In Europe, the gas prices are way worse. Especially Greece. It's over €2.30 in a lot of places which depending on the exchange rate is usually around $3.20 CAD. And the salaries average only €800 a month.

So in comparison, the prices in Canada are great. But of course, it will continue to get worse as they have done throughout time. Especially with the Liberals and NDP F'ing the Country dry and hard any chance they get.
  • 8 4
@poundsand: By land mass, Greece is 1.32% of the size of Canada. Are Canada's prices really great when the country is 75 times the size? Who's more likely to need to use a vehicle to get around, and use that vehicle for longer trips?
If everything in my country was practically walking distance, I'd be ok with 3.20 a litre.

There's a process called "Criminal Rehabilitation" through the Canadian immigration dept. Lots of work to get the documantation together but mine came back approved in about 6 months

@mtbgreg80302: the shitty thing is that's still not a 100% that you can cross the border it's still up to the officer that's interviewing you.
  • 3 0
@mtbgreg80302: depending on how much money you've pledged towards hotel reservations, etc, there's also usually a fast-track bribe system where drunk drivers (and vandals) can get a two-week pass to come spend money.

Yes let’s be aware of our carbon footprint but… What about your flight on a 777 to get to Whistler? Pretty sure that flying whale burns more than a heli. IMO it’s worth a lap, you can eat vegan and pedal back to your four season hotel room in Whistler to offset. Can’t wait for this experience
