 Don’t come here, it sucks
  • 13 2
Truly abysmal. Pisgah, Kanuga, Mill’s River, and DuPont are no good.
  • 8 0
Trails closed. Taps are dry. Sorry.
  • 1 2
I recently learned you guys were a place after the college came to Collegiate Nationals this year.
  • 1 0
@everythingsucks: lees-mcrae has been a consistent contender at collegiate nationals for awhile man. phil kmetz was racing for them and fast af just a few years ago. brevard college has all the same goods in NC but even closer to them.
  • 1 0
@Benjumanji: Mills river sucks but a couple of trails are pretty good in dupont and kanuga
  • 26 0
Does it come with a Tacoma or Outback? Won’t fit in without one.
  • 7 0
I feel so left out living here, with my Forester.
  • 2 0
Hey we have lots of Frontier's too
  • 5 0
 @pisgahgnar: Just a poor man's Tacoma
  • 8 0
Or a $80k Sprinter with overland accessories you NEVER USE EVER! Wankers.
  • 2 0
@Sugarbrad: Or the lifted F-series truck driving around with a house in it's bed. Obviously built for the Dakar Rally.
  • 4 0
@ZSchnei: I like to call myself practical :-)

Brevard College just won Collegiate MTB National Champs @ 9000' in the snow/mud of Colorado.
Must be some good riding there..... Smile

Was impressed with Brevard at collegiate nats. Was wondering what their riding was like.
  • 14 0
@moondustdictator: You'd change your name to wetmuddyoffcamberrootsdictator
  • 1 0
Brevard absolutely dominated. Gave Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa a run for their money.
  • 1 0
@Grantma: It was impressive, but I'm not under the impression Brevard won the omnium, seemed like they had a few diverse xc racers who captured a 1-2-3 on the individual omnium, think CMU still took the overall.
  • 1 0
Props to anybody that raced that...heinous conditions that weekend at Purg.
  • 1 1
@ryanandrewrogers: Oh they won the omnium, Ft Lewis got 2nd. Same Brevard guy won the XC, Short Track, and DH. I was there!
  • 1 0
@bikebasher: wrong, cmu won omnium, flc second, brevard third.
  • 11 0
first time riding pisgah last week, I had an amazing time! Can't wait to go back.
  • 5 0
 SSSSHHHHHH.
  • 9 0
 I heart The Pisgah
  • 6 0
It's a fun rip all the way down upper and lower black. Then hit the hub for food trucks and beer. Who ever wins will definitely have an epic time.
  • 7 1
 Avery > Upper Black
  • 13 3
@tacolord: Nah dude hit up Greenslick in Bent Creek, way better.
  • 1 0
 @ncrider5: Noted, thanks
  • 2 1
@ncrider5: scratch that, just watched a video of Greenslick. Looked like a tame lower black. No drops, gaps or tech. Just long straight dirt runways, looks pretty boring imo and its 45min from Pisgah.
  • 15 0
 RIP upper black
  • 6 0
@rbarbier12: It'll live on in the hearts and souls of those of us that rode it the past few decades...
  • 14 3
@rbarbier12: just visited the area and stumbled onto Black Mtn Trail as part of a Pisgah adventure. Having grown up riding the area I was appalled at what has been done there. New school trailbuilding is both destructive and boring. There wasn’t even anywhere to park. Rugged and wild is what Pisgah used to be. This is not mountain biking. To top it off there were even a couple ebikers riding up the trail who expected us to yield. Oh how times have changed.
  • 3 0
@bradwalton: Man that really makes me sad to hear. Black Mountain top to bottom was prob one of, if not, the best trail I've ever ridden. When I saw they were re-doing the upper-mid section I was pretty worried.
  • 3 5
@rbarbier12: upper black stayed, middle got the reroute
  • 2 0
@gotohe11carolina: that’s not true, the climb up to the top stayed, but the huge majority of the upper black descent was rerouted also.
  • 3 0
@gotohe11carolina:Incorrect. Upper Black goes from Clawhammer down to Pressley Gap, including the hike a bike. This was rerouted from Turkey Pen gap down. Middle goes from Pressley to Thrift Cove, also rerouted. Upper Upper goes from Club Gap to Clawhammer. The back side of Upper Upper downhill to Club Gap was reworked in 2019 and is incredible, the rest of it from Club all the way to Turkey Pen in unchanged.
  • 2 0
@bradwalton: ot is unfortunate that this train of thought is destroying trails all around me here in NC. It literally drives me away from trails. Wish I knew how to stop it.
  • 12 1
@bradwalton: You're missing out on the bro culture though! Get your wife fingered by the mechanic at the hub! Have your photos stolen by local race promoters! run races in the rain! its not the races its the trail design! ITS NOT THE RACES ITS THE TRAIL DESIGN! ITS NOT THE ENTITLEMENT ITS THE EcONOmIC OppORTuNItY!!
  • 2 0
@rbarbier12: rip rip anyone who climbs upper upper
  • 5 4
@rbarbier12: your thoughts in new school trail construction are idiotic, you clearly don't get sustainability do you. You not being from here you are the problem.
  • 2 2
@ShreddieMercury: are the mechanics fingers greasy?
  • 3 0
@bradwalton: We keep your old stomping ground on lockdown don't worry. The trustfunders in their automatic Tacomas can have that side of the forest. But yeah I'm with you, pretty disappointing isn't it?
  • 4 0
@ShreddieMercury: Haha, assuming anyone at the Hub will actually talk to you without the password...
  • 7 0
@lowejw: I assume that was directed towards me. I am from there actually, and all of those trails have been there longer than either of us have been alive, so sustainability isn’t the issue. The trails are too hard so build flow trails for the masses = more revenue. Blue Ridge Mountains doesn’t mean there’s only one ridge available for blue trails. Stop destroying existing trails and go build something new.
  • 2 0
@bradwalton: It's ok. That leaves those "untouched" ridges out in the middle of nowhere for the rest of us ;-)
  • 3 0
@bradwalton: The number of people I spoke to who said "black has become unrideable in the last year" is comical. Yes, it was a bit bony, so you had to carry speed for it to be rideable. But it was a technical challenge. The new black is a 1% grade flow trail with a couple of whoops, one super awkward left turn rock feature.... and thats it. If it were a new trail, great! If it is replacing something challenging... maybe try to make it a bit challenging.
  • 2 0
@Sugarbrad: I haven't had any bad experiences at the Hub yet. The first time I ever went there was with my teenage son in 2020 and we asked what trails to ride based on our fitness/skills. Tyler Orschel was working and talked to me and my son for 15 minutes and gave us three great routes. We ran into Tyler on the trail in DuPont the next day and he remembered us and talked to us again.
  • 1 0
@bradwalton: man, this hard to hear coming from you. I had a blast riding a few days ago, but you’re right, compared to what it used to be, I miss the Pisgah. Gotta suck coming back and seeing what they did. Maybe I should ride only in Wilson Creek!
  • 1 0
@Sugarbrad: hey hey hey, I have a auto Tacoma, but it’s old and beat up! Do really miss my old Taco straight drive.
But if I had a new one, I could drive around with a roof top tent on it 100% of the time. Maybe I could get some of those orange traction things, so I can clear the gravel on Yellow Gap road. And a hitch rack cause my bed is a fridge to keep my food cool from my drive from Charlotte.
Okay I’ll stop.
  • 4 6
@bradwalton: i think theres about 50 other trails in the area that fit your certain niche of riding jank old hiking trails. This attitude is what keeps pisgah tame believe it or not - your not gonna let the sport progress....why? scared to hit the avery jump? IF you want raw old school straight down the ridge style trails there is still PLENTY of that around here. What shrimper has done with black mt. is the only thing with that type of flow in the area...heck it even lasts longer than 5 minutes!
  • 7 0
@Edwe1rd: Progress the sport on something new rather than ruining the existing trails. Flow trails are lame and boring. I would be scared to hit that 15 foot gap on the same cross bike I would ride on Black Mtn trail.

@bradwalton: I think you and most people have a different idea of what "ruining" a trail means....

"flow trails are lame and boring" ha nice dude your so cool

underbiking is such a funny thing people are obsessed with around here...sure go for it!
  • 3 2
@Edwe1rd: get out of my sport
  • 1 3
@bradwalton: ha! far too late pal
  • 8 5
@Edwe1rd: we are not pals. This flow trail crap is ruining the sport. Why am I opposed to it? Because you and people like you are taking away the challenging terrain to create more trails for the masses for the purpose of revenue. Very little is being done to accommodate advanced riders and those looking to progress their own skills. If the Avery gap is your idea of advanced, I’m sorry to disappoint you but I hit it blind riding solo, didn’t even know it was there. That trail is over-sanitized as well. Kanuga, great, but private land is extremely limited. I am glad I had the raw Pisgah experience growing up, but am even more glad I moved to somewhere with the freedom to build what I want to ride. I’m happy you are happy and hopefully it keeps you there.

Although I live in California, a long way from Brevard, I had the opportunity to ride Pisgah and Dupont while on a cross-country road trip over the summer. Very impressed! Please pick me, I want to go back!
  • 3 0
Just came back from annual fall trip there. Ride Kanuga is a great addition, change of pace. Pilot Rock, Bennett, Avery, Lower Black, Burnt Mtn, Big Rock, Ridgeline every time. RIP Farlow.
  • 1 0
Did Farlow get destroyed by the hurricane?
  • 2 0
@rbarbier12: That's what I was told by locals while visiting Oscar's brewery.
  • 2 0
@rbarbier12: Farlow remains largely intact, but there was a big slide at Shuck Creek crossing. Daniel Ridge was hit a lot harder.
  • 5 0
I got this one guys! No need to enter.
  • 5 0
I only wanna win if I get to ride with that tall Mangler dude in the pics.
  • 2 0
 me too

Brevard / Pisgah / Hendo / Mills.. there are ALL outstanding places to go. Lots of brewerys, flannel, tacos, enduro sleds, and beards. It's a great place to go and post pictures on the gram.
  • 2 0
Get lunch at Smoke On BBQ after your ride. That was probably the best food I've ever gotten out of a drive thru window.
  • 1 0
I was very confused. For any others, this is Blue Smoke, apparently they had to change their name due to a trademark issue and I have yet to notice. Oh. And the brisket tacos are insane.
  • 1 0
@pisgahgnar: It was Blue Smoke when I ate there over the summer. A quick Google search of the name so I could put it in here confused me as well.
  • 1 0
No idea how Dan gets that much boost on that slickrock section. Ridden that a thousand times and could never style it up like that. Steezy parcheesi my friend!
