Snowshoe is such an amazing raw place to ride but it’s missing a full on jump line. Big Ash is great but short and a pain in the a$$ to get to. Hopefully someone at Snowshoe will read the comments!

Will anyone second my motion?
  • 2 2
Totally agree. Another issue I have is the fact that its been pretty much untouched in the past couple of years that I can tell. Last trip I made up there we didn't even ride it. In my opinion Beech has a more substantial jump line which says something. The rest of that place is awesome though and that wouldn't deter me from going in the slightest.

i was just there riding this weekend with the build crew. They are extending the big ash jump line up the mountain and making the existing hits bigger. They started work on it today! your wish is granted and it will be later this season.
  • 2 0
@Struggleteam: can't wait to ride it when it's done!
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: does this mean big ash is closed? I'm heading up this weekend.
  • 3 0
@Grrtyclt: Very likely yes, it will be closed. they are starting on the high end clearing so existing big ash may still be open though. Trails were running awesome. Crazy stuff getting built now for world cup and they "groomed" lower hareball
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: good to know! Thanks. Hopefully the OG stuff will be open to hit but if not there's still lots to do.
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: never been there. How does it compare to Trestle or Anglefire? Also been to Whistler, but probably not applicable.
  • 3 0
@Struggleteam: Not sure how I feel about that. Flow/jump trails are fun but so is chunky gnar. Something I think Snowshoe excels at. I'm all for adding new jump trails in addition to, but they better not be ruining or grooming existing tech trails for it.

@txcx166: Well I’ve been to Tressel and to Angel fire. Snowshoe is an older bike park. The original trails there are gnarly technical downhill tracks. The lettered trails on the basin side can be downright terrifying if your not ready for them. Plenty of middle ground tech trails as well. They have some flow trails but they aren’t known for that. It’s is also always wet there which is polar opposite from nm and co parks. Loads less washboard braking bumps.! There are also really good backcountry single track and enduro trails

The village is on top of the mountain which is really cool. They also have the most laid back vibe imaginable. I don’t know where you traveling from but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I have buddies fly in from out west and fall in love.
  • 3 0
@yoimaninja: they had the layout flagged. It will be all virgin trail and no existing gnar will be harmed in the making.
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: coming from Tulsa. We’ll have to check it out sometime. Thanks man.
  • 1 0
@NebulousNate: Beech has a jump line?
  • 2 0
@Struggleteam: That’s great news! I think it will keep riders around who love the tech and gnar but want to send it in the air. Currently I make the drive to Bryce, Mountain Creek and Thunder for my big air fix.

On a side note, PLEASE let us ride the lines you cut in for the World Cup when the race is over.

@Struggleteam: good to know headed down in a few weeks so maybe I'll get a glimpse. Been craving some DH at the shoe.
  • 1 0
@itslightoutandawaywego: lol sort of. Cane break is longer than big ash with more hits. Although, that trail has its own set of issues. If you rode all of the other stuff snowshoe has to offer and then went "let's hit the jump line" I think it's a little underwhelming. Good to hear they're working on it currently though.

Anything can be a jump trail if you are brave enough Wink
  • 2 0
...and @Nebulous. Agreed - this is confusing to me - Ash is good and maybe a top-to-bottom full tilt line would be too much but tables / jumps are only scattered about otherwise. Hell, even Kanuga has a better jumpline (if not the best in the entire southeast that I've seen, its longer than Beech - Beech good though too) and now that Kanuga has that new lower jumpline, plus Tortuga in the middle, the whole setup is unreal for only 500 ft total elevation drop. Allows ebikes too (I don't have one) but for ebikers who want a jumpline, Kanuga is great.
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: Oh damn! Didn't know this - any expected finish date you know of?
  • 1 0
@yoimaninja: You're not gonna have to worry about that - there are 10's of original singletrack / chunk / gnar trails that even w/ a DH bike will have your teeth rattling. The jump stuff is already on built trails so even w/ extending Ash (which I just learned of) it doesn't affect any singletrack
  • 2 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: totally agree about Kanuga. Snowshoe doesn't have a set of jumps on the entire mountain that are anywhere close to southeast style. Such a fun line.

So skyline is not their jump line? I know the hits aren’t huge but it’s still fast and filled with tons of jumps, mostly friendly and fast. Let the flame and tear down of skyline begin. I know, all the pink bike commenters do massive sends and 30-40’ gaps.
  • 1 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: They are trying to open it this season. That's all i know. Weather is such a variable out there!
  • 1 0
@martymiller35: Skyline is a great blue jump trail. What everybody wants is a longer black jump trail which they don't have. It's all about progression.
  • 2 0
Snowshoe is the best, we usually go a few times a year from NC but with travel being so expesive and Sugar Mountain stepping up their trails we wont be up until the world cup and then for memorial day to ride. I agree if they had a dedicated jump line it would be awesome and I dont even like jumps all that much but something Skyline style but with tables between Skyline sized and a bit smaller than Big Ash would be awesome. Skyline is a tame blue jump line but its still really fun to fly down with your buddies after a beer or two at lunch or at the end of the day you can really go fast on that trail if your hands can handle it.
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: Heard on that. At SS and Windrock theres a special type of (sedimentary) mud that just blows to clean off and thats a hi-elevation area literally above the cloud-line so even when not dumping, its often wet. Thx for the intel -
  • 1 0
@Aem221: I think u mean a Pain in the Ash? But really - is it so bad to ride down to it? AW COME ON REV !!!??? But… i hear ya. There could be a good jumpline near the top too… dunno why thats not a thing there yet
  • 1 0
@itslightoutandawaywego: Btw just pull up Beech Mtn Canebrake on youtube, several good bids there. Its a solid 2 minute jump-run, realy well done actually

AR not AK. Sorry to my Kodiak Brothers.

Attn: West Virgina sucks. No sense in coming here and clogging up my trails. You will not like this place and should probably go somewhere else like the self proclaimed mountain bike Capitol in Bentonville Arkansas. Yes you should go to Bentonville Arkansas. These west Virginia trails are not the trails you are looking for
  • 2 1
 Bentonville blah blah yes, self-proclamied
  • 1 0
But it's Home; where I Belong. Will you be my Mountain Mama?
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: country roads take me home to the place I belong west Virginia

Snowshoe Bike Park is a blast, but don't miss out on the trails outside the park. For guidance, the Snowshoe Enduro and Slatyfork Enduro track lists are a good jumping off point. Get some WV Jank in your life.

It looks like someone photoshopped a smile onto that dude.
  • 4 0
I think he was photoshopped there.
  • 2 0
Mud on the tires and not a spot on him. Seems legit.

It looks like all the photos are photoshopped.

 Does anyone actually win these?
  • 1 0
It's basically an email address buy. But someone, somewhere will probably 'win'.
  • 2 0
@suspended-flesh: I won, now the real ? is ...will they actually let me have the trip... I gave Pinkbike ervything they asked for weeks ago.. and still haven't heard a peep out of Snowshoe
  • 1 0
@mattmetropolis: Awesome! I have no idea what happens next because life always tells me "Sorry - Not A Winner"

Snowshoe is a pretty great resort that people from surrounding states travel too. Obviously, it has been host to the world cup, and it's not inexpensive to stay there. Just because something is in WV doesn't mean it should be cheap. Also, WV outdoor recreation is pretty amazing in its own right.
  • 1 0
I went to Snowshoe last year for the double header, and my wife and i had a blast. My back was broken at the time so I didn't even do any riding and still loved it. Before/after the event we just drove around and hung out in WV. Even if you don't bike its an amazing place. So much fun. Wish I could go again this year.

Wast Virginia jank and hero loam are some of the best in the East.
