KENTUCKY YEAH!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding, this state blows.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:29)
Why are there no Mountain Bike races like this? Or if there are, why don't I know about them?
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:33)
The single speed world champs are like this, but with more drinking.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 14:07)
There are. They're in the 90's.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 15:56)
CX is an insane off season sport that brings riders from all disciplines to a new style of race that's literally the most physically demanding out there.. It's probably the hardest hour of your life, every time... but then, beers, new friends, and girls, ooh and by the time you're done riding, you will have a much respectful image of those roadies in spandex, cuz they are usually the ones who walk away with the champagne..
(Nov 4, 2014 at 8:39)
A lot of un-sanctioned races are like this though since no one takes it to seriously.
(Nov 6, 2014 at 4:21)
SSWX2012 here in South Africa was one of the craziest parties I have EVER been to!! Sooo much of excitement! And the riding was really good too!! RIP - Burry Stander Killed it that year, what a win!!
(Nov 3, 2014 at 14:12)
That looks ridiculously fun, dont get me wrong, but am I missing something if I reckon that if you entered this on a mountainbike, even a singlespeed one, you would win by a country mile? I mean, I get it, this type of fun racing, where seriously thinking about winning is kinda missing the point. I would seriously think about entering if they ever hold a race like this near me and I'd probably do it on a BMX or something just for a laugh. But serious cyclocross on the other hand just seems like road riders who want to ride off road, but no ones told them about mountainbikes. No?

CX races usually have decent segments of very flat terrain on grass fields or something of the sort. Even a rigid cross-country MTB won't be anywhere near as fast as a CX bike for this. Also, a decent amount of obstacles are designed to make the rider get off the bike and carry it, and a decent CX bike will be lighter than any mtb.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 17:26)
Second 33 of the video, a 29er blowing by a bunch of guys running up a hill. On muddy days 29ers win every thing from what I hear. I have seen some of these guys train though. It is awesome. Even a flow trail on a cross bike is incredible to see.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 17:56)
taletotell: except for when it get proper muddy and your 21 lb MTB now weighs 31 lbs, while my 16 lb CX bike only weight 20 lbs because it is lighter to start with and has fewer places to accumulate mud. Running with a 20 lb bike is a lot easier than running with a 31 lb bike. I've been racing cross for years and never seen a MTB win on a muddy day (or any day), except maybe in Cat. 5 races. Cross bikes are for cross, and mountain bikes are for mountain biking.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 18:05)
I'm just going on hear say, so you'd know. I just was operating by what a guy who sold my budy a cross bike was saying about the local scene in Ithaca NY. I imagine you have the same kind of mud, so maybe he's just full of it.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 18:38)
sure, you might have a dude on a SS 29er geared in the 40" range blow by some folks on 60"-ish cx bikes, but they're generally still slower than a bike with 33mm tires. in mud, the narrower tire actually works better since it doesn't float as much on top of the muck. it gets down to wherever there is traction.
otherwise the Men's winner Adam Craig would have brought his MTB.
(Nov 4, 2014 at 17:07)
Just gonna throw out there that in a proper cross race you have to run 33cc tyre i think? might as well just ride the lighter cyclocross bike if youve ridden a mountain bike you can probs handle the cx bike well anyway
(Nov 6, 2014 at 10:01)
they're both 700c, just saying.
(Nov 6, 2014 at 10:04)
Right, but the Geo is pretty different.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:22)
How did I end up looking at cyclocross bikes on craigslist...
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:34)
Funny, i did the same but on Ebay...
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:43)
Biking culture is immutable. Well pretty much every type except the serious suburbanite roadies. Some of the most biking related fun I've had has been with NYC couriers and friends of the Dorkin' in York crew.

i think about half way through, right before the womens race some guy says it all "if you take this seriously, then you're a douche"... dont knock CX guys, go try bunny hopping a road bike, anyways looks like a killer party!
(Nov 5, 2014 at 4:54)
Definitely full of hipsters. I am always fascinated by people who wear plaid and grow beards to fit in. Half my farm shirts are plaids I bought to keep warm years ago. I don't shave until the growing season ends and I have more time between the farm and my day job.
CX people seem fun however. I caught the eve of a race in North Hampton, MA once. My buddy was a food vendor. Opened my eyes.
While CX may seem like hipsters they're still people. Cool down to earth people. I stopped DH because I ran into too many thunder cu*ts. For example, Some Richard at Reading racing was upset because someone fell down a chute at Plattekill in practice and I wasn't going to let him run the guy over before he could move. (You still suck, PA) so while CX may look funny on the outside the people on the inside I'm sure are far more decent.
(Nov 5, 2014 at 1:08)
need to get the allergy cream out now. too many hipsters per sq mile.....itch...scratch
(Nov 4, 2014 at 17:11)
When SSs (road, CX, XC, DH, etc...) are involved, a party is bound to happen.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 14:21)
looks like a good time - i don't think i've EVER said that about cross before
(Nov 4, 2014 at 10:06)
This is epic! Looks so fun! I'd like to try that shit fixed, it'd be a helluva time haha!
(Nov 3, 2014 at 19:00)

(Nov 4, 2014 at 13:19)
Went on a date with a cyclocrosser once. Once.

Looks like my daily commute on zee bike.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:32)
That's a lot of spandex.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 13:39)
Did you watch to the end of the video? I've seen more spandex at DH races.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 18:46)
I don't watch videos on pink bike.
(Nov 4, 2014 at 7:35)
Well there's your problem.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 22:25)
I don't feel like I'd fit in.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 23:46)
everyone fits in... it's cyclocross.
(Nov 3, 2014 at 21:06)
(Nov 3, 2014 at 14:04)
2.26, true words!
(Nov 3, 2014 at 18:30)
Who can argue with a good party? But isn't this to cycling what speed walking is to running?
