Anyone else a little bored with seeing Ken block do donuts around different stuff. I mean, yeah, he is really good at doing donuts around stuff but still. 7 videos of it?
  • 68 11
 I really thought that too.

By the end when he was doing the donuts around the barrell I was thinking "he's already done that"

Same sort of thing could be said for any of the "great" sporty people, like danny macaskill for example. You only have so many tricks up your selves.
  • 38 2
you no like donuts w/coffee in the morning?
  • 46 10
If he was drifting around corners at 100mph+, it *might* be cool. But looks like a wast of 845 horsepower for the most part....

No way man. I agree with curtaincarot. The same could be said for watching MTB videos. Rarely do you see new tricks or terrain, but we keep watching because the skill level is off the charts and it's entertaining as hell. I love watching Block's videos because although it may seem that he's just doing donuts, the skill level to control the car in those tight spaces is mind-blowing. I feel the same way when I watch Freeride videos of guys riding on the limit and hitting huge features. It gets the blood pumping man!
  • 22 1
The Frisco's gimkhana episode was muuuuuch more entertaining....
  • 32 0
Danny Mac tells a story with his more recent videos, he is aware that just another video with him doing the same tricks wouldn't be intereseting. Plus he seems to bring new tricks to each video. The really good sports videos are about finding a new place to ride, coming back from some kind of adversity, doing something new or about a journey or relationship etc, the really fogettable videos are just a stream of tricks you have seen before. Ken Block just seems to do donuts around different stuff, no story, nothing new. Whether it is around a cop car or a segway or a barrel or a lowrider it is still just doing donuts around a thing. It is an amazing car and a beautifully shot video featuring some really amazing skill but I just don't really care.

i dont know why iobohusky was getting negative marks.

If its not your thing, ur probably not gona be entertained by it.

Im sure drifters/rally racers will look at mtb(all disciplines) and say to themselves.. ive seen that before.

Welcome to pinkbike in the winter. Get ready for more random videos, season recaps, opinion polls on bike fashion and reviews on useless junk like the enduroguard.
  • 6 5
Well, it is still a car. You can't do stuff like Dany Macaskill does in a car. This is why we call it a shuttle and we prefer to ride bikes.
  • 18 3
but that car doe... omg ... its worth looking up the specs of it because its pretty mind blending.
  • 2 2
 Ohh shiiiiit.

Well at least there'll be some indoor edits from the top dirt jump/slope style riders like Rheeder. If that's your thing hahaha.

If cars aren't your thing thats cool. But I'm not sure how anyone on Pinkbike can sit here and complain about rehashed videos, or how he's doing the same thing just in a different location etc. I mean what exactly is most of the content on this site? Its videos of people riding bikes. Yes, the bikes change and the locations change, but ultimately most of these 'edits' are the same thing. There is nothing groundbreaking in 99% of them.
  • 4 7
@sino428 "doing the same thing just in a different location etc." This is the most important point. The location. We ride beautiful places and leave them still beautiful.

*There are no bikes in this video, just a dick being an ass in a car thinking he is cool*
  • 9 1
That car, yes. Thats what I was fixated on, a nice departure from the usual turboed 4-banger. And the donut around the bombed-out Scoobie was a nice touch.
  • 16 0
Come on, You have to accept the fact that some ppl love motor sports as much, if not more than, you like MTBing, so whats wrong with 7 drifting videos? MTBers make thousands of vids a yr
  • 9 1
How is be being a dick
  • 13 2
If you had even a clue of what it takes to hold those tight 4 wheel drifts you wouldn't make that comment. Go ahead, try it sometime.

Those "donuts" are to car driving what an infinite wheelie on changing terrain is to mountain biking. Sure. "Easy", but your ass can't do it and neither can your friends. All semi-pro and pro drivers (bikers)? Sure. "Easy".
  • 9 1
The only thing that really entertained me was thinking about the engineering and parts and specifications and work put into his mustang...
  • 7 3
How is it that he got props for slagging off Ken Blocks amazing videos? Seriously some people...
  • 3 6
The drifting was awesome but it was a little long and the lack of music made it seem old after a while.

Tough crowd. Every now and then it's nice to take a spin around the Block. Winter on PB is my favorite time of year. It's also the time of year whem I can ride without dread of getting heat stroke.
  • 4 0
guys i'm not complaining about the presence of the video. i love Ken Block,. i'm just saying that the frisco video was IMHO better edited, with better tricks, better driving and the tridimensionality of a city like frisco was awesome for that kind of stuff. maybe the Fiesta was a car better suited than the amazing mustang of this vid, a smaller and lighter car for doing this kind of stuff is more agile.
  • 3 0
@RSDeuce Nobody in this thread said it was easy you are abjectly misusing quotation marks. I definitely can't do it and it is amazingly skillful. However, if, like in your example, there was a guy who could do manuals down DH trails I would watch the shit out of one or two videos and be amazed, just like I did with Ken Block. By video 7 if that is all he did I would be getting real jaded though. I would be asking for a story, for something new.
  • 2 1
funny , I Thought the same thing. I saw the exact same driving moves in his first video in his subaru in 2012
  • 2 1
I've got that weird feeling I've seen that somewhere already...oh wait..in all previous 6 gymkhanas..
  • 3 2
 Two things:
1. Gymkhana has become boring by now. All the same stunts over and over again.
2. He still doesn't get any of the shots right the first time. If I counted correctly, there were three scenes that were good on the first take.

TBH, you notice more and more money is going into these shorts, but they are declining in quality. Probably because it is not about Ken Block anymore, but rather about his Sponsors.

it cracks me up how pinkbike swings from the nutsack of all the vids that have nothing to do with mtb, but have lots of 'crossmarketing appeal'...........

do you think the car websites have vids up about mtbs? doubt it, they could care less about our sport.

why are we soooo infatuated with motor sports on this site?

a slow 'mtb news' day is a slow 'mtb news' day, but still......................

it is hilarious.

Quite a few of the motocross sites I frequent post up MTB videos. In the forums there is always talk about Rampage. Hell in Transworld MX the most popular MX magazine for sale there is a whole section dedicated to MTB and MTB gear. Everyone needs to calm down about the motorsport videos. Did one car video among the 20 MTB videos really ruin your day?

@stacykohut The only example I can think of is when Jalopnik loses its collective sh*t over Rampage. They've been thoughtful enough to post about McGarry's backflip a few times plus footage from this year. Personally, I don't care if PB features car antics 'cause I'm catching these posts on other sites. Now when they post about mountain scooters and e-bikes.... Wink

Monster Energy really is a weird company. They sell sugary green poison to impressional children/teenagers and ill informed young adults primarily, but because they sponsor and at least contribute to insane things like this video, everyone loves them.

A product so horrible and poisonous not even the athletes they sponsor will drink it, instead opting for water filled Monster Cans.

Entertaining video though.
  • 24 4
What's your take on RedBull then. They're the exact same thing.
  • 15 11
Yeah but Red Bull doesn't taste like poison.
  • 24 4
They literally have almost the exact same ingredients just packaged in a different can.
  • 14 5
RedBull is just as bad. Sell poison, brand the product in such a way that criticism of it makes me feel bad for liking Rampage.
  • 4 3
Yea these companies sell poison, it's a choice to drink the shit. It's not like people don't know it's bad for them. But these companies bring a lot to mtb and other action sports through this publicity.
  • 4 1
always cracks me up me when i see "Zero Calories Energy drink" written on Monster cans....

Calories are the Unit to measure Energy just like km/h or mph for speed.

I wonder nobody ever sued the over this, i heard someone sued red bull for not actually giving you wings...
  • 3 6
And your point? Calories are a measure of how much energy it takes to consume and process something not how much energy it gives you.
  • 7 1
True, I know Hunter and Vanderhaam have both turned down energy drink sponsors because they don't want to promote such an unhealthy product. Coffee all the way Razz
  • 7 5
Please, enlighten me as to where the "poison" is in these drinks? I looked at the ingredients, and I don't see it. They even use real sugar instead of corn syrup.
  • 6 2
 ArnoldBarber??????

Calories its the Unit for energy. Its how much energy is contained in a product, not only in food.
In case of food it is what can be used by the body to function.for example when you run you need energy which means the body uses up calories which you added into the system in form of food.
Zero Calories means the product has Zero Energy... hence energy drink is quite an ironic product name.

If it would be how much energy you need to digest something... well...you would get slimmer by eating more burgers... look around you.... it does not work that way... lol

Ok... you also need energy to digest but that's not what is meant by the numbers next to the pictures of burgers at MacD...
  • 3 7
flag ArnoldBabar (Nov 17, 2014 at 11:44) (Below Threshold)
I guess I worded it wrong it is the amount of energy you need to expend to burn it. The reason you get fat by eating too many burgers is because the amount of calories needed to burn it is generally greater then the amount of energy you actually expend.
  • 4 3
well it seems you don't get the irony in it... it still cracks me up every time i walk by a can in the store... maybe i am the only one...
  • 4 0
So whats your take on alcohol then?
  • 13 1
 It's amazing.
  • 2 1
Well action sports athletes historically don't have the best record of getting sponsored by purified water companies or all natural, healthy food brands, now do they?

Who the f*ck cares. The ones who drink that crap are either drunk or not heavily into the sports the company sponsors so they're dumb fatasses to begin with. Who cares? They're going to die out soon anyways.
  • 1 0
 Savage. But agreed
  • 2 0
thanks scott-townes.....having said that what the f*ck is so unhealthy about these drinks anyways-yes heaps of sugar/corn syrup and caffeine.....those that like their coffee sweet are essentially drinking the same thing.Sugar is bad but heaps of shit has heaps of sugar apart from energy drinks-at least they are what they are named...unlike some of the shit that gets peddled as healthy such as low fat option foods. Great vid too-nothing like sound of a screaming big block engine and take RSDeuce's comments about insane skill with drifts with such small tolerances for potential disasters. Thanks PB

One of the most toxic substances in common usage on the planet today: caffeine. Doesn't matter where you get it from, caffeine is a toxin. Of course, at the quantities we consume it at, it's completely fine, our endocrine systems are pretty good at their jobs. Just like they handle pretty much every other toxin we consume.

Every time I see somebody start screaming about how energy drinks are poison, all i hear in my head is Andy Samberg screaming "I'M AN ADULT! THROW IT ON THE GROUND!"
  • 1 0
I think people are getting hung up on and taking the term poison too literal. So Monster doesn't actually inject cyanide into their drink , still doesn't mean you should be drinking it or that it is safe or healthy for 13 year old impressionable kid to be drinking it 3 times a day because he sees the monster logo plastered over everything he likes.
  • 2 1
@michibretz Caffeine, regardless of the source, is a stimulant. stimulants affect your brain chemistry in order to speed up neuron function, which boosts your energy level. your body has plenty of reserve calories that it can burn at any time, just because caffeinated drinks triggers your body to burn those due to an adrenaline-like reaction, rather than providing the calories directly within the beverage, doesn't mean it doesn't enhance your energy level. science.howstuffworks.com/caffeine4.htm
  • 5 2
@laynehip if you can show me an ingredient on the can that actually causes harm, at a reasonable consumption level, I'll agree.

people letting their kids consume sugary drinks multiple times a day, or highly caffeinated drinks multiple times a day, is a parenting problem.
  • 3 1
People have died from drinking too many cans of Red Bull, I once had three and it seriously felt like my heart was going to explode. If you're having one at a time once in a while you'll be fine; the problem is a lot of people aren't doing that. That much "energy" is incredibly hard on your heart.
  • 2 2
 groghunter...

Per definition (and printed on the top of the cans) there is no Energy in this Energy drink.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy#Measurement_and_units

It like saying you have a Powerboat with out an engine (ZERO kilo watts horse power)
or a silent loudspeaker, a round corner, an underground skyscraper or whatever other supid combination yo can think of.

damn marketing without education is really a dangerous thing...

for sure there is a lot of substances in that kind of drink which can ad will influence your brain chemistry or metabolism or whatever Just like they are in almost everything we consume on a daily bases. I don't argue that. Still energy needs to come from something but in this case it will not come from your "energy drink"
  • 2 0
 @michibretz www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pedant

you're sticking to the definition of stored energy, which isn't the claimed effect.

When people talk about how much energy they have, they aren't talking about how many Kcals they have stored up in body tissue. They're talking about how energetic they feel. Stimulants increase that feeling, by their very definition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stimulant
  • 1 3
lol... you are funny... thanks for keeping me entertained on a slow day... do you work for monster?
  • 2 1
Ah, the old "you made points I can't refute, so let me accuse you of being a shill" strategy.

No, I don't work for Monster.
  • 2 0
I'm with @groghunter on this one. Zero calorie energy drinks do not contain energy, but they contain multiple stimulants (most of them) that increase your level of alertness and, according to some, can increase your athletic performance.

Black coffee has essentially zero calories, but it definitely wakes me up and keeps me awake.

From the Monster website: "Monster Absolutely Zero: helps fight fatigue, improve mental performance and focus, and motivates you to work ( I mean play ) harder, so generally you feel pretty damn good."

All of Monster's claims are debatable, but they do not claim that it CONTAINS energy. I'm not a fan of the taste or the caffeine jitters, so I only have energy drinks when it's really important to stay awake, such as overnight road trips. I drove non-stop (except gas/bathroom) for just over 30 hours once with sugar free monsters. I didn't fall asleep, but my urine looked like toxic waste!
  • 1 2
you did not make a single point that's why its funny and why I am still writing writing to you.
You are like a puppy chasing its own tail. really fun to watch...

i said in the morning i think it is funny they are advertising the fact that it holds no energy on a product called energy drink.
what else do yo want me to say?

but well if you want more, here you go:
By your logic the product would have to be called Stimulant Drink or even Energy-Draining-Drink. Or just "DRUG" because what you are describing as the intended effect is pretty much the same as a cocaine high...

Wikipedia quote: Cocaine increases alertness, feelings of well-being and euphoria, energy and motor activity, feelings of competence and sexuality.

And you know what, after that high, any high, comes the crash and you know why? Because the body drained its energy reserves. Ant that's exactly where we return to the ironic part. After consuming this "energy drink" you fight so hard for you will actually need to put more energy back in your body than before... cool huh?
  • 3 0
Caffeine is very much a drug. It is a stimulant, as is cocaine, so it isn't surprising that they have similar effects. By the way, I burn the calories contained in a regular monster in less than 20 minutes during hard exercise. Drinking a Monster for the chemical energy it contains isn't the point. The stimulant effect is the main point... The sugar is only there to make it taste better. There isn't any energy drink I have found that I think tastes particularly good, but the ones with sugar are generally better.
  • 2 1
 Facepalm www.druginfo.adf.org.au/drug-facts/caffeine

the first sentence: Caffeine is the most popular and widely used drug in the world.

Yes it's a drug. So is Ibuprofen. So is aspirin. So is Menthol, which is the active ingredient in pretty much every "natural" cough drop in the world. None of them are poison simply because they happen to be drugs.

The only way I'm chasing my tail, is that I'm feeding a troll named michibretz, who thinks the only possible usage of the word energy in the English language is the definition used in physics. Which even Merriam Webster lists as the THIRD definition, AFTER two that use it to describe how energetic a person is. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/energy
  • 1 2
dude Seriously, i never questioned the effect of contained chemicals nor did i comment on them being good bad or whatever (you are welcome to read back), but as long as someone sells a product called "energy drink" and advertises it saying "0 Calories = no energy" i will not be able to walk by that product in a store without smiling to myself...

You don't think that's funny, well my friend, that's your problem. I think its hilarious!

oh and because you like your merriam-webster links so much:
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/calory
  • 1 2
uh something just came to my mind, you are actually right!
Me and the can saying 0 calories are totally wrong! sorry for trolling you...

assuming a big can of energy drink which has a mass of about half a kg usually stands on a shelf which lets say is one meter high that actually would result in the can containing a potential energy (U = m * g * h ) of 0.5*9.81*1 = 4.905 Joule or about 1.17 calories.
Therefore if this can of Energy drink would fall from the shelf onto your foot you indeed would be energized and i would be even more amused than i am already by just walking by this very shelf with out you being "energized". a win win situation...

still not funny? still your problem!
  • 2 1
If you want to continue to prove you're unable to comprehend the definition of a word, unless it agrees with your contrived argument, go right ahead.

I must say, however, that it's pretty disingenuous to claim it's all about "smiling to yourself," when your first post suggested that someone should sue energy drink makers based on your flawed argument.
  • 1 3
Seriously. That's all? I was so looking forward to your next post but now I am quite disappointed.

And by the way, i said " I wonder nobody ever did sue" that is very different from "somebody should sue".

You are being a dick about scientific or common langue definition of a word but don't understand that difference? Very sad...

I got my grandpa to watch this and he cant get his head around it he says its suck a waste and its not real. I ask why and he said because it was to crazy to be real. lol

" So what you trying to tell me officer is that cant go down this road because there's a guy doing donuts in the street!?!?!?!"
........Commence ROAD RAGE!!!!!!
  • 2 0
If he could do it with RWD, I'd be more interested...AWD seems like the lazy man's way
  • 1 0
A Custom Mustang is fine although a 92 or 93 white custom Bronco would have been more fitting running through the streets of L.A. 20 years later!
  • 2 0
Ken Block was the kind of kid who would make the longest skid mark with his bike

Kocham gościa Big Grin ale pewnie mało kto wie że jest współzałożycielem DC ... :v
I love this dude Big Grin but sure no too many of you knows he is co-founder of DC ... :v
  • 1 0
I loved the San Francisco video. The mid air corner groove gave me the "Oooo-Ahhhhs"! This video left me with the "ho-hums", but I dug the hell outta the car.

if only they had that as a shuttle at every urban dh race
  • 17 18
Ken is good at gymkhana tire smoking cuz hes probably the only guy in the world doing it full funded.....
Put him in the WRC stage and the guy cant even place.
In short,...Ken everyone can smoke tires, I can even do it on my 29er (Ripley), the only thing impressive worth seeing is the cars you drive...lets start placing in the WRC and maybe youll turn out alright.
  • 21 4
I don't get this argument at all. What does his race results have to do with these videos. To again relate it to mountain biking, look at a guy like Remy Metailler, who puts out some of the most rad mountain bike videos out there. How would he place if he entered a world cup race? Do we shit on his videos because he wouldn't sniff the podium?
  • 6 2
this is probably the dumbest shit anyone has ever said. congrats
  • 4 2
Yeah, the OP's craziness is analogous to hating on hardcore awesome street riders because they wouldn't place in the Dew Tour. Just like street riding trumps contests, "Hooning" trumps lame car races. (Not that the WRC is lame but racing in general kinda is).
  • 4 1
Eco, ken block regularly podiums or wins gymkhana events, only usually beaten by the guy from American top gear. He IS good at what he does
  • 6 1
You win most dense comment of the thread award. Man, those F1 drivers SUCK I bet they wouldn't even podium in the WRC.
  • 2 0
And Block came 12th in the last round of the WRC in Spain. He was regularly placing around the top 20 when he raced. Being the co-owner of DC shoe co. he just didn't have the time to race all the races. As this article shows he's a busy man racing as much as possible www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/october/block-wrc-future/page/1904--12-12--1801.html

For sale: 1965 mustang. Custom everything. Only driven once. Needs some TLC. One of a kind. MSTA.
  • 1 0
I liked this but the creative team should have been involved before he did the sanfransisco edit. if they were, he could have used the mustang in sf and done a bullit theme.
  • 1 0
Hands down the guy has skill but how many times did he do each section as the roads are filled with black lines where he has had practice runs.
  • 2 0
It sometimes takes professional riders hundreds of times to get a trick perfect on film, the amount of tries it takes doesn't take away from how awesome the trick is. No difference here.
  • 4 1
They ruined a really cool car...

just me see GTA5 everywhere ??!!!!
  • 2 0
I'm pretty sure I've driven half that shit on GTA V but it was 100x more balls to the walls because Franklin does his driving thing
  • 2 0

  • 3 0
Thanks fossil fuels, couldn't have done it without you!
  • 1 0
 Batteries man.
  • 2 3
I get it.. Ken Block.. he's really effing good at making his car go in small circles around hot dog stands... what I don't get is what this has to do with mountain bikes. I mean he's not even driving on dirt ffs! If I wanted video of cars I would go to Pinkcar.com, thank you very much.
  • 2 1
Waste our tax payer to paying all PD to blocks all road...worth it? Ken Block not even in the circle of the WRC. Not even close.....
  • 1 0
I am glad no tires were hurt during the making on the video...................maybeee not. In my boring world, a car get's me to the place I will be biking from.

He went to Randy's Doughnuts and didn't bring me back an apple fritter. Waste of fuel!
  • 3 1
Elanor im leaving you for another mustang
  • 1 1
I think I would still take Eleanor over Block's monstrosity though. Eleanor was mostly stock; Block's Mustang is almost entirely custom, including the entire body.

 Donuts at the donuts hehe

One simply doesn't 4wd a Mustang. Or a drift car for that matter. That was pretty wild though.
  • 2 0
His next video should be called; Ken Block - I'm still alive and rich
  • 2 0
He should be focused on bringing back the old DC Rob Dyredek shoes from like 1998

  • 1 3
I just keep noticing all the black marks already on the roads.....and think....anyone ca be a great driver when you cut and splice the video together with multiple takes.....lol Lets see him do the same thing in a Toyota Corolla!
  • 3 1
Do you think all the mountain bike videos/movies you watch are shot in one take?
  • 1 0
Haters gonna hate.. no I believe that MTB videos are compiled pieces of individual video sectioned together by someone in a office to make a thrilling and epic saga for young persons to watch and enjoy.
  • 2 0
Sick car!! And Ken Block knows how to burn tires
  • 1 0
Anyone else get reminded of need for speed most wanted at the donut shop part?

If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, this could be why. Smoking tires never gets old boys. Go try it.
