This year's Red Bull Rampage was one of the craziest yet with the steepest and highest venue to date. We were on the front line amongst all the action so check out the highlights with Brett Tippie.

Peoples Choice Award = Guy who sent it the hardest
McGazza Award = Guy who got the most robbed
  • + 16
Silva is such a bad ass...F*cking legendary hit. Even the big dogs recognize that...sent it like they did on some of their biggest runs ever.
  • + 4
Brendog was leading the peoples choice for most of the day, but wasn't meant to be I guess. I like your assessment @otty11 haha
  • + 5
He should follow Straits throwing same style same tricks on every event.
  • + 0
@chyu: Big no-handers on big senders are where its at...maybe a 3 if you have a death wish and uncanny luck...crazy either way
  • + 4
 Zero point zero
  • + 1
 Brendog got robbed sooooo bad.
  • + 33
Nice to see Brendog being a professional. He got screwed big time and instead of complaining he left it at " mixed emotions" way to take the punch the judges gave him. Hope to see him out there again next year.
  • + 22
As someone who has worked intimately with him for 7 years (#NoHomo) I can attest he is a true professional-more often than not, something that I F*ck up causing a delay or whatever, he always lets it slide-and is always appreciative of everyone's effort. Dude is gold....and to top it off, watching him on a bicycle is magical.
  • + 3
 a true freeracer gentleman!!
  • + 28
Didnt see the tipper there, but I saw Gee walking around in civilian clothes with his entourage. I wanted to run up and get a seflie, but im older than him, and thats weird.
  • + 11
 You're good people.
  • + 2
You should have gotten a selfie with him. Gee is a nice guy. I am WAY older than him and I got pictures with him at the Fox Hunt a few weeks back after racing it. I am 52, and he couldn't have been nicer. Next time get the picture. Big Grin
  • + 2
@DonMTV: Imo if he's not at the event as an Athlete and he's in his casuals, you're calling a guy on the weekend asking him to do work. He might not have a problem with it, and be happy to, but it's his day off.
  • + 18
That was awesome! Tense inside the tents (that's for you Tip). Great job with the behind the scenes coverage and general lowdown!
  • + 14
Would have been rad to have Tippie in the booth, his commentary is on that team Claudio/Rob level.
  • + 3
It's good, but 4 hours of it... Not sure I could take it
  • + 11
Maybe they should have cut the part about score is not important and its about slotting you in positions. Still hard to buy Brendogs run was the 10th best. Seems like the judges forgot their own statement.
  • + 4
If you go by the organizers statement "Dont worry about your score, we are concerned with getting your RANKING right"....well, Look at Brendan in 10th, and see some of the guys who beat him-not accurate.
Brendog in my book, was 4th-7th. Oh well eh?

@stikmanglaspell: Brendan had the most original line, and speed. He just only should have tricked the canyon gap and the rock drop and he may would be top 5 for sure. I mean nowadays is not enought good line and speed to make it at the top of rampage. See Metalier, he is not even top 10. It´s different from 10 years ago when Gee was second but he clearly stomped that massive side drop to wallride gap..
  • + 1
I'd put brendog in 3rd. Imagine he was last down this hill and the Stoke from his full run was still strong.
  • + 7
@PauRexs: He should have tricked the canyon and rock drop? Are you kidding?! 9/10 riders there wouldn't have even ridden the rock drop straight, let alone throwing a trick off it. This is the problem, viewers have become so unrealistic with their expectations, for whatever reason. That rock drop was gnarly as hell. The judging should just be done in a fairer way, if you're going to invite DH/Freeracers and fight the calls of it becoming a 'slopestyle' event, then they need to judge big mountain/shoots/tech drops as highly as they judge tricks. Because the fact is, he may not have a trick bag to match a lot of the others...but a lot of them wouldn't have touched Brendan's line, pretty much start to finish, and that in itself should count for something.
  • + 1
@TombPhoto: yeah I know it's pretty easy to say from viewers stand point... Just was trying to figure out what was on judges mind. Riders has shown us pretty impossible tricks... So why not to expect?
  • + 13
Who on earth would be talking shit about Adolf casing that huge drop?!?
  • + 1
 Haters gonna hate.
  • + 10
I really don´t think Rheeder´s run was such a big deal. Would have to see the POV, but seems like Etahn Nells flip was almost as big, adn he had that huge suicide no hander....
  • + 0
Rheeder's turn...Silva and Bas should've been right there.
  • + 1
@rcrdrvr: Bas? He didn't ride finals...
  • + 2
 @TombPhoto: f*ck...Tom, Tom I mean...damn!
  • + 11
Tippie as a judge would have been the teets. Big mtn understanding and no BS on the landings. Best of both worlds
  • + 7
Zero point ZERO! Silva gets me pumped
  • + 2
awesome! guy's out there look like they are on the hunt for chin! POWELL PERALTA SEARCH FOR ANIMAL CHIN. (have you seen him?) any who! andreu rips!!!(skate style biking) rheeder rips! van steen rips. nell rips, sorge rips.etc… more flow/steez next round maybe!? awesome footage, awesome biking. keepon trekking!
  • + 2
Rheeder makes Brandon Semenuk look like Brett Tippie on cocaine. (Meaning, Rheeder really is a super duper mellow, chill, unexcitable dude-but he had a winning run, so, congrats).
  • + 5
Love the stoke factor Tippie! Keep up the great work man.
  • + 3
Tippie for Prime Minister of Canada! Trudeau Out. Tippie In. Rock on!!!
  • + 1
 Rampage is dead.

Welcome to an extra round of the Slopestyle series.

If they were truly worried about the escalation of big lines over the last couple of years, then be honest with the punters and make it clear its a slopestyle event. This was the tamest Rampage I have ever seen and Brendan´s run getting 10th was an insult to him and the history of this event.
  • + 5
 Imagine Tippie was your dad.
  • + 1
If he was my dad, I'd give him a hug. Dude looks a little subdued, er, subdude lately.
  • + 2
Once again great coverage of this most excellent event Pinkbike. This stuff makes my whole year.......thank you!
  • + 3
 harness Tippie's energy...somehow
  • - 1
They should limit the tricks to easy big air variations...no 720's on smaller stuff to score high. Bring back some of the old way. Biggest hit scores Huge no matter who sends it. No hander or 360 or flip that's about it. And lines like Brendogs and Straits should score better! There are some features you cannot trick but are hard to accomplish and they should not be penalized for that!
  • + 2
if Semenuk had landed his 720 it would've been crazy technical and still high up on the ridge, where its super exposed and intimidating. Even though its a smaller jump thats not worth scoring highly? What about Jordie? The judges absolutely take the size of the jumps and tricks into consideration. That's why Andreu didn't beat out Rheeder. Bigger sends get more points and tricks on those get even more. I agree if you just survive the gnarly stuff to trick something small then it shouldn't be worth a whole lot, but to my knowledge that's already how they score it.
  • + 5
@keeqan: It's just big mountain I'm after...not all entrants have a 720 or opposite tricks in their bag. If they send it huge or pick a cool line add some smaller tricks I think it'd be more even scoring. I know it'll never happen, but man do I love big sends! Save the more technical tricks for the other FMB events. That's why FEST started...no more scoring on the tricks!
  • + 1
@rcrdrvr: Fair enough but what the riders build in the 10 days or whatever is totally up to them. All the judges are riders with more experience riding big mountain than probably the entire collective of pinkbike commenters. Doesn't mean they don't make mistakes but I think there's a lot of speculation going on about this year. Honestly was just as stoked to see Brendan and Remy's fast runs as Tmacs big ass drop and Rheeders tech tricks. Everyone killed it this year but its super hard to score those different types of runs with out going there, walking the lines, and seeing it for real.
  • + 1
@keeqan: Been to the other events, not this one sadly. There's a peoples choice award for a reason...11th wtf? Still love Rampage though and can get over any scoring concerns...not many bad injuries, big sends, successful event!
  • + 2
@rcrdrvr: Oh yeah buddy it was so sick! Honestly loved Brendans run but I still think his 2015 run was the sickest. Also you haven't even been out to Virgin? Get out there! its so sick and just seeing the original site will put into perspective the sick shit all these guys are doing.
  • + 2
@keeqan: Hell I'd love to do a line...as long as there's not many big or even medium hits...love to work my way down even...love heights and skinny trails!
  • + 1

started looking for a bike just like this...love those colors

 @keeqan: www.pinkbike.com/video/495021

yep...even Remy's run was sick...wayyy too much for me...some big hits this year, so impressed!
  • + 3
Seems like no matter the results someone got “robbed” every year.
  • + 1
Brendon got robbed, maybe he should enter a Freeride event rather than slope style?
  • + 0
Great riding, I just have to say, this is an awful edit and whoever put it together should not be allowed the privilege again.
  • + 1
Macduff started partying a lil earlier than the others I'd say? LOL- nothing better than being stoned in the mountains!!
  • + 2
 And on the care-scale...0.0
  • + 1
How come Red Bull can't provide the POV's that were in this video?
  • + 1
 They trickle out. Be patient
  • + 2
they probably don't all belong to redbull
  • + 4
@loganskis: I would be surprised if red bull doesn't have rights to all of their go pro footage . In ama racing the riders have to show their pov cameras for approval. They then sign forms saying the ama has the rights to any of their footage. I'd be shocked if red bull was any different.
  • + 2
 @loganskis: They do though.
  • + 2
 More MacDuff please!
