The two twunts doing the comentating are making it unwatchable. MTB has a real isue with these extreme bro types at the moment. We need to get rid of the canadifornian bras!

What's with everyone complaining about everything? We get watch this stuff for free! And the commentators did a great job, u try doing what they do it's not as easy as it sounds!
  • 18 9
 @b-biker: Agreed.

Fathers day, sitting here with my feet up, a cup of tea, a few biscuits and a top downhill event hundred of miles away on the tablet for free. Well done to crankworxs, ixs, pinkbike, Les gets and the riders. Pity some of the fans don't appreciate what they have for nothing.
  • 4 3
@Furious-Styles: +1 for the brew and biscuits even if I disagree about the coverage !-) what biscuits you on? happy fathers day BTW =)
  • 8 0
@juansamwell: cheers. A wee KitKat and tunnocks tea cake. Helps me pedal through the Scottish mud that I am oh so used to.
  • 6 1
@Furious-Styles: Tunnocks tea cake! Bad man snax! very well done sir. Cant go wrong with a tunnocks.
  • 20 5
@juansamwell agreed, DH MTB and all cycling should only have european commentators with proper accents to make it something you can listen to without feeling that you are watching WWF wrestling or a Monster Truck arena event. It is unlistenable.
  • 7 2
@jlhenterprises: wouldn't go as totalitarian as that, but people who can actually talk would be a bonus and drop all the bro speak. Sounds like a parody of a mid 90s surf film. =)
  • 19 1
As a Canadian living in California, I agree!

Or should I say: tewdally, fer sher.
  • 12 3
@b-biker: The most intelligent comment on here today. People are sitting on their couch complaining not understanding that without iXS promos or advertisement playing there will be no Webcast playing FOR FREE and no Crankworx.

You guys wants more cameras? What about you now have to pay to watch? ... They have no idea how much time, efforts, people and money need to come together to make these happens.

Good job to the Crankworx team & Pinkbike, doing a wonderful job and offering the athletes an opportunity to be seen.
  • 20 5
 @Marilou: Hi, so a couple of points;

1. I was at work so stood up not sat on a couch

1,a I never mentioned the advertising at all and understand that there will obviously be adverts my issue was the commentators.

2. I didn't say I didn't appreciate the event or the filming, or its free-ness. The reason I was annoyed is that I was glad it was going to be on and watchable. My grievance was that I thought the commentary was crap (i stand by this) and that it (for me) made it unwatchable. I feel that as an industry the bike world is in a really lucky position where it controls its own media output. Thats great but with that comes a responsibility to how the sport is portrayed. (there is if these companies like pink bike and crankworx want to grow the sport and move it forward anyway)

Commentators like the guys on today don't do anything to shake the 90's TOTALLY RAD DUDE image that mountain biking can do without. I found it boring and inane and people new to the sport would think it was a piss take! The sport is amazing and what these athletes, guys organising the events, guys filming and putting out content do is mind blowing. To me thats worthy of a little more artistic respect in how it is portrayed than was given by these guys (again my opinion as was the OP)

3.Pay to watch; gladly, so that the aforementioned athletes and people working for pb can earn enough to live and also produce REAL quality viewing, and we get footage like that from the world cup races (which are also currently free)
  • 14 2
@Marilou: No one in this comment thread has complained about the adverts, of course there will be adverts. Brads commentating is awful he has no idea what is going on and just fixates on repeating everyones times in a strange sensational tone. Tristan knows what hes talking about but throws far too many ridiculous adjectives in that makes it hard to listen to.
  • 7 2
@juansamwell: as someone who's born and raised in California, I'd have to agree with juansamwell's original post. The beach bro thing is pretty old and the general commentators don't bring any relevant insight into the broadcast. While Cam McCaul might sound like this, he actually possesses a good balance of bro-ness with former pro insight and an insider's perspective. That being said I think Claudio and Rob are perfect for MTB
  • 5 3
@juansamwell: The responses that say "hey we get this for free so stop complaining" are not doing the commentators any favors. Basically saying that because this a free broadcast, of course the commentators will suck because nobody paid for them. So in essence they agree Smile
  • 4 2
@juansamelll I think you nailed it on your 3 point response to Marilou above. The sport could do without this "way rad bro" image and I hope the Crankworx people see your thread. I think you have done the MTB community a great service stating how many of us feel when the sport is portrayed like this. Hats off to you sir...
I did try to watch it with the sound off, but it wasn't the same and didn't even get thru 15 minutes of it...
Oh BTW, I was just bringing a little Velominati-style humor to the argument earlier, not to be taken too seriously, haha. -Cheers
  • 9 1
These guys totally suck. I can appreciate that it's free but so are the vast majority of other sporting events we watch. If you had a shit commentator on your football game you'd expect him to be shown to the exit, not coming back year-after-year. Pointing out that it's free is an invalid argument. When you go to the grocery store and are offered a sample you don't go buy the product if it tasted like shit. When non-mountain bikers watch these hacks trip over their words and offer the most bland, witless commentary ever broadcast for public consumption they, at best, turn it off or worse, think it's stupid and never pay attention to mountain biking again.
  • 4 1
One guy literally sounds like a trumpet. It sucks to rip people out but its impossible to watch. Horrible commentating
  • 1 0
@jlhenterprises: "Velominati" - hah nice. It's all rigged i tell you! Aaron Gwin was the chosen one. why do you think he's the only one that thanks god! /tinfoilhat
  • 2 1
@cuban-b: google velominati- the rules They're hilarious, but not to be taken too seriously (but should anyway cause it's all true). ... MTB needs some IMO to stay classy these days, especially after this disaster commentating bro crap, (haha). It's really just embarrassing to the whole sport and I'm tired of the dirtbag image.
  • 1 0
@jlhenterprises: Good choice sir. always down with the velominati !-)
  • 3 0
 @ripdogg1: absolutely spot on.
  • 2 4
@juansamwell Bra, we kicked your ass over 200 years ago so we didn't have to talk like you. Maybe we should have Rat Boy announce the next crank worx. And, FYI, a kit kat is a motherf*ckin' candy bar, not a biscuit.
  • 6 1
Dear everyone, Not all Americans are douche bag Trumpeters who totally miss the point.
  • 5 1
@MelvieD: ha, not taking that. It's defo a biscuit. A tunnocks tea cake stuck on the end of your nose would sort you out :-)
  • 1 1
@ripdogg1: yeah, there spineless dick bag Tories, you missed the point! im saying we all talk different. Cam is a great, and these tea bags are cut throating his career.
  • 1 2
@Furious-Styles that like a skin flute?
  • 4 0
@MelvieD: I don't think anyone is talking about Cam. He's the only guy that sounds like he knows what he's talking about. It's Triston and the other bro that are the problem. Cam is surprisingly good at commentating. He has knowledge of riders, bikes and technique, good insights, and he's witty. Triston and OG Brobrah are really, really terrible. They're not fit to make the morning announcements in middle school let alone a world wide broadcast for a major event.
  • 3 0
@MelvieD: sorry mate what language did you type that in? back in your box!
  • 3 0
As said above Cam was the only person on that feed who sounded like he'd seen a bike before so not ripping my fave north murican rider at all, just the two dudes who did the main commentary.

And a good idea when people rip your work is not to moan about "all these people moaning about it" (many people sharing an opinion usually indicates an element of truth) but try to actually produce some quality and silence the complainers.
  • 1 1
Although I may not disagree, I'll take a shaka bruh over a bad case of the Brits anytime. At least I can understand 'em. Wink
  • 59 5
 not this commentator again Frown

Rampage? World Champs? Oh well cool to see somethung different, like a combination of old school dh and a Moto race. Crazy to see Melvin Pons beat a bunch of big names.

Wanted to see Mike Jones' run but they decide to cut to an interview mid crash and we don't get to see the full run.... and if i hear peanut butter one more time :/
  • 15 2
Yeah what the hell was with that?! Final run of the day and we dont even get to see it cos they cut to an interview with Thirion, which then gets interrupted by cheering when Jones crossed the line. What a joke.

@gabriel-mission9: The cheering was the live announcer congratulating Remi on his win ....
It very easy to sit on a couch and complain while not understanding what is happening on the ground.
  • 9 2
@Marilou: Yes it is very easy to sit on the couch and complain while not understanding what is actually going on at the finish line. This is because even though there was a racer on track, the fastest qualifier no less, I couldnt see the finish line because they had cut to an interview. I know Jones had crashed but I'd still like to know where he placed! I tuned in specifically to see him being the last man down the hill and only got to watch half his run. Not to mention the amount of adverts and general waffle I had to sit through in order to get to his final run. I was perfectly happy to put up with that but after sitting through it all not even getting to see his run was a bit of a cuss really. So yeah, I kinda feel like complaining.
  • 27 4
I tuned in for 15 minutes, rubbish presenters who don't know what they are talking about (at least Hannah is trying when not dealing with condescending comments about her shoes) and too many ads. Let me break down the result... Good Night.
  • 31 6
these commentators are making this so frustrating to watch. We need Warner and Claudio.
  • 2 0
Rob Warner and Nigel Page for sure.
  • 23 0
Watching mudbath comfortably from my couch... At least it won't be cancelled.
  • 19 5
OMG the deliberate IXS product plugging is so cringey! I understand they are the title sponsors of the DH event but come on!
  • 3 1
 Just think about it
  • 16 4
so Steve, tell me about the differences between the IXS trail and DH knee pads.. eughhhh
  • 9 4
so how do you expect the organizers to run an event that costs hundreds of thousands of euro's and produce international broadcast if they don't plug the sponsors? You want to have €20 pay per view then shut the f up.
  • 5 2
@mdtsports: I most certainly wont "shut the F up", dont get me wrong I understand these sponsor deals stump up the money to give us a free live feed, but i'll put it out there... Redbull manage the UCI stuff without making it a cringe-fest.

Oh and yes i'd genuinely be happy to pay per view for DH racing if it provided a better viewing experience.
  • 18 5
Does it say cu#t on the fat commentators t-shirt? A brave and honest choice!

Crankwork needs warner and claudio commentating these guys are annoying

Yeah Barel, showing all the young guns who's the boss!

He was so bummed he went off the course! But big smile on his face and so happy to make it down and almost had the chance to be on the podium!
  • 8 0
hahahaha Mike Jones in the Rogatkin mode
  • 10 4
Great racing. But wish they'd get rid of these two commentators. They feel like they have to talk NON STOP! And what they say is mostly lame.
  • 7 0
Thomas Estaque deservers the praise from this, never heard of him till now, 4th with a crash is some feat.
  • 6 0
Fair play that was an awesome performance by the French, or 'Frenchies' as the commentators would say...
  • 4 3
The mud wasn't wet enough for us Brits :-)
  • 9 3
My sincere thanks to the commentators for making me appreciate just how good even a toned down Warner is.
  • 3 0
I know I'm not the first one to say it, but the commentary and presentation of Crankworx is just such a tragedy because it could be so, so good!

They never tell you how many points each event is worth, they never tell you how many events the top competitors have entered; they just make it so difficult to follow what's going on with these really cool titles: King and Queen of Crankworx!

Add to that how much better Rob Warner's commentary seems, and the shameless sponsorship plugs that NO ONE WANTS IN MTB (save that shit for moto!) like "Oh Taylor, tell us about your IXS pads and how much you love them?"

Crankworx, address these problems!
  • 11 5
 Peanut butter... Pair of pricks!

MORGANE CHARRE WTF ?? How can u be 25 sconds UP ?? didnt she cut the track somewhere hahaha ? Big Grin
  • 2 0
Half way through the replay from yesterday...

uggghh... And here I thought Red Bull's coverage of downhill was bad. But these guys...

Why do they hire commentators who having nothing extra to bring to the presentation? There's one dude who seems like he maybe, might have, possibly, have ridden a mountain bike once in his life. And some other dude who just sits there saying nonsensical generic crap.

Combined with the slow, completely undramatic & utterly anticlimactic racing, I think I'll just skip to news coverage of who won.
  • 2 0
Though a lot of folks here may not have liked the commentary, I like that we don't have a British accent for a change. You Brits do a great job, but you do sense bias when watching Formula 1, WSB, MotoGP, Downhill, etc. Not to mention commentating on a mud bog course with slow speeds isn't exactly exciting stuff.
  • 2 1
Oh my f+@king god these commentators really REALLY spoil this coverage. They need to do there research. Find out how to prounounce names correctly... and stop using terrible analogies... Or they should be replaced with good commentators. Sort it out!
  • 10 5
cant watch ! The two commentators are just a joke !
  • 8 7
boring presenters, same ads all the time, same promotion footage and talk for the "flow"trail everyone seem to like (presenter right now, Cam during best trick yesterday ...). I cannot even hear it while wrenching on my bike - I'll drop in some earthed dvd for wrenching-background-dh-action ... old but gold!
  • 8 9
Why do you think you can watch this for free jackass? People are pissing me off with comments like that, how do you think Crankworx get founded?
Thank to them to try to gather all the money and sponsors they can to give the athletes an opportunity to race, get prize money and do their best to gather money to be able to have people have a look at it FOR FREE.
  • 3 1
@Marilou: I love Crankworx. Thanks to them the athletes can get prize money and an opportunity to race. I very much appreciate the FREE live broadcast. That being said, my humble opinion is that they can improve just one aspect of the broadcast and gain more respect from viewers if they replaced the commentators.
  • 15 13
What's with everyone complaining about everything? We get watch this stuff for free! And the commentators did a great job, u try doing what they do it's not as easy as it sounds!

we live in a world where its easier to hate someones accomplishments, than actually have our own. everyones anger makes me angry, and it makes me want to stop visiting pinkbike. Every video you watch its, that sucks, or your music is stupid, instead of cheering on someones momentum. Lets join forces and push for less doushebaggery in the pinkbike world!
  • 3 2
I wanted to complain about the commentary, but i feel that it have already been covered. Instead i will leave you with a short haiku to convey my feelings. Total dudes so rad, Rad dudes so rad rad dudes rad, Butter my peanut
  • 1 0
Obvious complaints have all been covered but I couldn't get over the poor camera positions and angles. Seeing the riders head or shirt bobbing about behind a hump or between trees and not seeing their bike or the hole that made them slide out was pretty frustrating. That said, thanks for the coverage, anything is better than a result sheet and some photos
