The holidays are here and Merry Christmas from everyone at Pinkbike to all riders worldwide! It's time to brag (or complain) about what Santa brought you this season as we do every year here, let everyone know in the comments!
Trying to be a samaritan stop a burglary. Got into a fight with burglar. Called the local lazy pd. He trying to arrest me for fist fight with the thief. What a world.
Unfortunately no. The lazy cop let him go because he able to proofed he’s working there. But he doesn’t have the key or no permission to get inside after the business closed. For my stand point he still consider a burglar. @therealtylerdurden:
Cop killer, yeah! I gave you props for trying to do the right thing. But honestly the cops showed up and saw, witnessed in person 2 people fighting. Assault taking place. That’s what they saw. That’s what they needed to put in their report. Your reaction to put a stop to the burglar was emotional and knee jerk. From the cop’s viewpoint one guy provides proof of employment, the other guy was clearly guilty of accosting and assaulting the other. According to his own words. Vigilantism basically. Just call the cops and record what’s happening next time. Then there’s no doubt as to the guilty party. I’ve no doubt that the guy was trying to break in. But we have due process here. Otherwise all we have is a he said she said world where everyone just takes the law into their own hands. In short the Wild West.
@buildabike: honestly it's sounds like you assaulted a person you had mistaken for a burglar and where lucky the cops used there discretion and didn't arrest you because you had good intentions. Its not what you know it's what you can prove.
@jrocksdh: @jrocksdh: I guess in the U.S. civilians are responsible for their own law enforcement. Even when it has nothing to do with you and the crime hasnt even happened yet, dont call the police and wait for the professionals, jump in, get involved. Worked well for George Zimmerman. Keep at it.
@buildabike: See the problem is we weren't there. People would just take some random dudes story on the internet as fact and call the cops lazy. Mean while he didnt even mention how long it took the cop to show up.....not that it matters because we are back to believing a random story as fact.
@panzer103: You know what? f*ck you. You have no clue. One of my coworkers was killed on duty last night by a drunk a*shole. I come here to try to relax and this is what I see. This guys family is mourning his loss on Christmas day and you post this shit. What do you do for your community? Bet I can guess....
@buildabike: that was meant for @panzer103 not you man. I don't expect everyone to like the cops, but posting shit about how badass murdering cops is is just sick. Just a little raw today. Sucks to see a young guy killed on Christmas cuz some idiot decided to save $6 on an uber.
@inverted180: yep..kinda whats always seperated the truly free from the rest. Do whats right and good...even at the costs of lawyers and a pc world of bs later.
@buildabike: My buddy does security camera systems and he says its the employees who get caught stealing the most. Cops should know that. Merry Christmas.
@therealtylerdurden: Ya man, I wont judge as the norm. Im was just being facetious / devils advocate. There are definitely times when getting involved would be appropriate or good. I dont think I would stick my personal neck out for someone elses property though. Valuable property generally has insurance, bullets and stab wounds can be permanent.
You are my hero. I had a similar story where some tweekers stole my brand new Kuat bike rack and immediately posted on my local CL. I arranged a meeting and notified the PD who never showed. Got my rack back without a fight but scary situation. F$&ing PD put me in a really shitty spot
@Beez177: rather marry a runner than a lady that doesn't get any exercise. I was lucky enough to marry a BMX racer... wasn't too hard to get her mountain biking.
@dldewar: Good on you. She's probably hot . That being said I don't like the mentality of runners and it's actually terrible for you joints, tendons, and ligaments.
I didn't get any presents this year... but it's all about the giving.
I didn't give any presents this year, either.
I think I'm starting to see a pattern.
Sounds too good to be true.... did you make a list? Tell me your secrets. I even made a white '18 Subaru STi Christmas cookie, and she STILL didn't get the hint. I don't know what else to do.
My kids and wife woke me up at midnight to greet me Merry Christmas and a Happy Birthday (Yes, it's my birthday too). I didn't get much. I buy myself bike stuff and more all year round anyway. The happy look on their faces, the hugs, kisses, and the joy I saw when they opened their presents was more than enough.
For me, its not what I got for Xmas, but how it was spent. As usual my family got local cheap chinese cuisine this christmas eve followed by opening gifts. Oh yeah, all the while RB Rampage is playing on tv in the background. It was on NBC tonight. I couldn't ask for anything better.
The local Mtb community started a new bike fund for me. They refuse to take the money back. Half way to a new rig! I’ll try and finally use an employee purchase for the first time after all these years. Merry Christmas to all!!!!
My mate and I went to a beautiful forest with perfect conditions, we rode our amazing Rallon r5 (it was the first ride for him) after that I had a great dinner with my family and I give my one year son a big amount of joy and present. No present for me but that was the best christmas ever.
My dad drove down country for 5 hrs, couldn't find a park, swore at me and my son about lack of parking, my boy cried, dad drove off. But we're alive, and my bike is ok. So yeah, merry Christmas.
Two years ago I got a Santa Cruz Bronson CC frame and M60 wheels. I was down voted quite hard for that. This Christmas I got a cup of coffee with my wife. Now I am looking forward to a lot of positive feedback
My son got a Spawn! So I got a new riding partner!! He was so stoked when he saw it under the tree. He ran around the room giving everyone hugs and kisses.
I got my son a Spawn too. It was the coolest thing when he saw it he almost burst into tears the. Ran to me and gave me a big hug. Things can never replace moments like that.
Decided climbing wasn't for me when i realised my favourite part was when i got to jump from the top and zip back down. Good training, but too slow for me.
Snow! Glorious snow! The Seattle lowlands don’t get much but it’s putting it down now, 4” and counting. Great present for a snowy Christmas Eve night ride!
Had a 2+ hour ride yesterday without getting any grief from my wife, she actually encouraged it. Can't complain. Oh, and watching my 16-month-old go from crying at Santa (uncle santa) last night to giving him a kiss goodbye and asking for him.
UE boom so I can make other people listen to my terrible music, and an orange as heck Giro Montaro helmet.
Best part was, my gf got me the helmet and threw me off entirely by pretty much bad mouthing all my bicycle related spending habits for the last 6 months, so a bicycle related gift was a complete shock.
Way to start of Christmas with a story that has to do with nothing to do with anything. Exactly “cool story bro” is right. I just ordered myself a transition sentinel for Christmas. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday and keeping it shreddy!
Got a couple of T shirts from my other half showing my love of bikes. She complained that they didn’t have ones featuring the words f***ing obsessed. ???? But they are pretty cool.
I prefer to give bike stuff so I built-up a Nukeproof Mega 290 for my wife and got my 9 year old daughter a Felt cross bike. My 11 year-old daughter got a bash guard and some new XT goodies for her bike.
Oh and I bought the family tickets to see Shakira in LA (she's #1 on my "list")!
darn tough sucks and an awesome lumberjack flannel. got my mom a front fender so she can see when she's grindin' through mud, and some low-maintenance lube for her chain ... which is expected to be applied last minute on the trail as mothers aren't usually known for their bicycle maintenance prowess.
Set of Spank Spoons for my DH bike.....that are currently on their way back to CRC after they sent me some roadie wheels worth half what I paid lol (yes, brought my own present as the wife had no idea what to get me) Hope CRC make it a better christmas and supply Spikes or some tyres for my rig lol
My better half got me a new helmet and i got some fox socks and a muc-off tin cup However my kids come to me for Christmas in 2 days so that's when its all happening, they have their own custom jerseys this year. Their faces when they open them...that's my present.
Wife bought me some new grips, plus some new riding shirts, the rest of the family pitched in for $750 in local bike shop gift cards. I got my wife a new stem/bars/grips and seat for her all mountain bike, and a new Aurum for park riding, she Emma’s crying she was so happy, it was awesome!
Got a mac-ride for my son and I to make use of (I may have been heavily hinting for a few months) and the rest is various vouchers and gift certificates... looking forward to the warmer months and moving him off the balance bike!
I got a traditional English sack full of lynx/axe body spray gift sets from the in laws and a even bigger sack full of whisky and beer. Sadly I got nothing bike related. But the wife did give my a DJI six months early so I could use it to film bikes in good weather
Several days of IV antibiotics thanks to a gash in my arm from a tumble just prior to Christmas which ended up getting infected. Delayed getting away camping with the family, the Mrs was neither impressed nor surprised.
I prefer to give! Getting a present is great, but the feeling I get when I see the happiness on another persons face from the present they receive is all I need to feel good about the day.
SO I built my nephews the same ramp that Seth built in that video. I got my moms a gopro for her car. Bought my older brother a Firestick, and my younger brother got a Xbox type pad for the controller; and got my sister and her daughter scarves, gloves and tickets to the Portland Art Museum. I had to buy for myself, so I bought a full Wolftooth components compliment, SLX cranks and frame protection stickers. And, and, we got snow on Christmas!
New screw driver set, since mine tend to go missing all the time (either due to throwing, or my 5yr old son who likes to "fix his bike"). A nz mountain biker magazine, a new Dakine riding jersey, Star Wars Po Damaron nerf blaster (hell yea). And a delayed present to myself once the funds are sorted a 2018 Norco Range A1 \m/ \m/
Sunrace 11sp 11-50 cassette, with a black YBN chain, and a new XT derailleur (crashed on the old DR too many times).
That Sunrace is awesome because the 42t before the 50 was just the "stuff" a couple of years ago. Great gear for most climbing in San Diego but I have that 50 for bailout. The Sunrace is affordable, too!
Since no one in the family got me anything bike related, I bought myself a used trek marlin hardtail 29er. Pretty basic entry level bike, unlike my full suspension decked out devinci troy 27.5". Because I don't always feel like riding full suspension and wanted something I could thrash around.
I got candy and deoderant... Nothing new Well, at least winter weather here is awesome so gonna go and ride some jumps today! Merry Christmas everyone!
Dear PB I dont seem to have received the email for my advent calendar prize, I guess I need to click on all 24 to figure out which prize is mine....please send me the email directly next time to save me checking them all. As it is the holidays I will let it pass this time. I hope it isn't the stan's as I got a pair of Arch mk3s from Santa to build up a new wheelset for spring.
Sony XB20 wireless speaker, bottle of Tanqueray gin, ALC t-shirt, paknsave gift card, Tintin book, lollies/candy and quality family time. Oh and shouted myself a new 26 rear wheel (black Mavic EN521 rim, Specialized Stout SL hub and with mean as black spokes).
A rack of hot sauce, coffee press, some merino socks from the fam. Apparently I thought I was a pretty good boy this year because I bought myself a new pair of skis, boots, bindings, TLD A1 helmet, Alpinestars gloves, and a Hope Pro 4 rear wheel. It's nice to be Santa.
I didn't get anything for the bike specifically. I'm pretty much happy with my current setup and there's nothing I really want or need at the moment. Which is an odd feeling. I did get some nice toys for my other hobbies though which I can't wait to use in 2018!
Deity knuckledusters, Xd driver for my hope pro 4, gx 1x11 drivetrain with raceface cranks and chainring , wolftooth dropper lever, 10 pack of shifter cables and a jug of mineral oil.
MTB-wise, some new Ergon grips and Race Face Chester pedals...googling how to install new grips. I got my wife a set of the new Kona Wah Wah II pedals and they are massive compared to the Chesters.
After I told everyone nothing repeatedly and told them to not spend a dime I got: - garmin fenix 5x - Two cooler bags - a few truck parts - an evil insurgent frame - way too many gift cards - lots of nice things for around the house. While things are nice, the fact that I was able to spend the time with my loved ones was all that mattered.
Two airline shirts, a 750 lumen light for night rides, roughly 400 dollars, and a shirt that says, “Pyongyang, ‘it’s pyure magic!’” (It also has Kim jong un riding a unicorn)
Nobody else in my family rides mtb, so almost every year I get one of those lame ass top tube pouches. No way that's going on my Pivot Firebird! Maybe next year they'll get me a basket for the front
Got some Smith Squad MTB gogs, Fox and handup gloves, TLD shorts, some misc candy, an Eno hammock, and finally, a halo freewheel with 108 engagement points for my DJ (sounds like a quieter I9)! Good Christmas!
plenty of garbage. plastic inside of plastic wrap in plastic garbage. I bet the commercialization world will love us more once we dump the recycling into the ocean.
All things aside. Got my rocky mtn grease gun for pivot bearings...and my son got a Commencal Ramones 12" pushbike for his first bike! Planning bike vacation?!
I got myself a new BB, crankset and new chain. And for my birthday next March I will hook myself up with a pike fork and wheelset. I support my own life...
I got myself a new Session 9.9 frame got it build up till the 25. got out on the trail and bruised 3-4 of my rips well xmas is a wonderfull time.BTW the bike is a dream
Watch their video and remember to stuff the entire bead down into the center with a tire lever and then it's not too bad. After 2 cracked Carbon rims and one taco'd aluminum DH rim last year I decided to try Cush Core too.
Endura MT500 jacket, new pair of winter riding gloves, cool book on homebrewing techniques. Wife got a pair of winter 5/10 freeriders, new Evoc pack, Gform pads.
Bro, you better give your parents a big ass hug and thank them like no one's business. It's a serious set of coin for a parent to dish out, especially if it's a carbon model. And really, it's a pretty decent whip.
waterproof bontrager socks, multitool, and a bottle of muck off, and a glove/boot dryer. Fantastic, but more fantastic was looking up and watching my kids faces as they opened their gifts. I love that.
Cop killer, yeah!

Cops should know that. Merry Christmas.
I got my son Spank red bars to match the Spank red wheelset we built this fall.
No present for me but that was the best christmas ever.
Added to that my awesome wife bought me a Canfield Brothers EPO frame to upgrade my CC rig.
I'm a lucky f**ker
Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday and keeping it shreddy!
Oh and I bought the family tickets to see Shakira in LA (she's #1 on my "list")!

Shop local.
Anyone has 9k to lend? ;-)

Thanks for the frame, North shore bike shop.
Lets Riiide!!!

My Commençal dislike this.
