Please tell me you are kidding, and if not that's pretty lame. Saying Rachel or Tracey's results are based off of how much they follow their brothers pretty much discredits their actual immense talent.
And FYI... The top women don't get to practice with the top men (and their brothers) at these racea so they get up to speed on these world cup tracks all on their own.
@Larkey1: some things just don't make for funny jokes. Especially given the commentary that usually follows....
Joke or no joke it's just not funny, and I promise you none of the ladies who come on here and read the top comments getting upvoted will find them funny either.
Your making a joke out of the hard work of others. How about showing them a little more respect rather than the making them the subject of poor attempts at humor ?
@davetrump: @davetrump: I understand they take racing seriously and OF COURSE their results are the fruit of THEIR hard labor and theirs only, but come on, it's only a effin joke.
To say that riding with faster people doesn't help one to get better and faster is absolute BS. Take any sport, if you practice with better/faster/stronger people, you will eventually get better/faster/stronger, more so than someone who practices within his own limits or with people with less skill / experience.
Boy, some of these people who write/report for websites like this, they appear to have a god complex. Make a light-hearted comment on an open comment forum and they have their pants all twisted up. Hangers on, I guess, and writing/reporting for a website is their version of having "made it" in bike racing.
They do great work, that we get to see for free. And they obviously have personal connections with the athletes hence their sometimes defensive replies. But at the end of the day, the sexism that has been raised is an issue that can be addressed easily through Pinkbike, given the amount of people that use this website. So can't really blame them for expressing their concerns. And it is an open comment forum after all.
Having said that, the jokes that have been made are quite funny. And they do actually acknowledge the sexism issue, which is suggested by the fact that people have gone to the next step, which is making light of the situation. Guess we've got find a happy medium and get on with life!
