Troy gets tested at every race at least. I was looking over the UCI rules and they are mainly testing for doping, obviously, but also interestingly are okay with marijuana under certain levels, the idea being to make sure you didn't partake within twelve hours of the race. Race weekend? Not sure.
I respect his leaving but certainly miss Brycelands presence at the races.
I might have that totally wrong, but all the same a surprise to me.
@LoganKM1982: cos clearly, smoking a blunt within 12 hours of hitting a WC dh course is going to generate a competitive advantage. I think championship points should be added in proportion to the amount of thc running through their veins (as long as they make it off the team couch).
All UCI WT and E (MtB) races, as well as 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 they'll pull at least the podium and a few randoms for mandatory doping control. USADA is a lot more thorough than CCES (Canada doping control) when it comes to testing cat1/2, cat3 and even masters.
@RONDAL: Good to know. That's where a lot of my surprise came from. Here in the states in spite of ongoing legalization it's still "officially" frowned upon. They still fine NBA players for testing positive for thc. I mean really? So hearing that the UCI allows it at all made me do a double take.
When the UCI introduced testing for weed their reason was not that it was performance enhancing, but that it altered the behaviour and assessment of risk by the rider.
Additionally, they didn't want riders stopping mid-course to check out "the amazing bark on that tree... "
@iamamodel: I'm not sure I trust their judgement after seeing how anti-doping has been handled by the UCI in road cycling. But it's fair enough I guess, if slightly open to amusement.
@LoganKM1982: if I remember right the NFL just stopped testing for THC this year. Hoping that it'll stop having all the players addicted to pain pills.
@potthead: I believe the league offered the PA to conduct a study on the benefits for pain management but wasn't a response from the players association yet
How about that? You smoke weed and go for a ride. You may get a bad trip with paranoia where you ride off a root and become convinced you are flying down Canyon in Utah rubber up, but you may also begin to feel that you are absolutely awesome on the bike which by the way is best bike in the world. End of bike industry as we know it. I need Spec Enduro 29 S-Works with SWAT to stash weed in it...
there's a lot of drunk fans at the St Anne race, similar to the dunk Ausies at Whistler, minus the loudmouth 'bro' heckling antics.
People literally brought full drum sets up the hill in the past. I've seen a lot there, it's a great time.
@endlessblockades: If you get DQ'ed like a certain someone, do you loose your quali points? Someone said a certain somebody might contest their DQ to scrape back a few points
@LoganKM1982: LMAO!!!! so amazing - remember the two grumpy old men in the balcony? That would be funny to have them cameo as Rob and Claudio - just maybe not for the pre race run review - would be very sketchy. I love Rob and Claudio too but both have such great senses of humour and fun personalities I bet they would be game xx
I think Mini Wyn should stay (He could race in the juniors...I think he might be taller than Finn)...and we have a Canadian mentor to guide him through sock stardom.. check out Ed the Sock : youtu.be/XLgs8eOA7m4
Haha we saw him during the race...so fucked up, he felt at least twice on rocks and was laughing with his duck! lol But for real, he doesn't seem to be drunk at all.... Don't know what he took but it was good! haha
It's a shame about the whole entering the track at the exact spot thing. Caught Greg out last year and Aaron earlier this year. Maybe they could change it to being ok so long as no advantage is gained and the rider makes an attempt to reenter at the approximate same spot.
@onetrykid: Good question and perhaps it's a grey area so the UCI just sticks to their rule, but I'd think the same marshal that is making a call as to whether or not a rider re-enters the track at the exact same spot could just as easily make a call as to whether an advantage was gained. I really can't recall an instance where a rider went off track and gained an advantage...this isn't endure ha ha.
I just hate seeing a rider, like Greg in this case, be DQ'd when they clearly didn't gain an advantage by going off track.
@westeast: that's actually how the rule is already written.
4.1.035 If a rider exits the course for any reason, he/she must return to the course at the same point from which he/she exited. If the president of the commissaires’ panel deems that the rider gained advantage, the rider is disqualified (DSQ).
@onemanarmy: It's insanity inducing, has been for years. Just today dirt posted a cool spreadsheet overall calculator for val di sole that allows you to play around w/positions and outcomes, worth checking out. #lightyears

How ironic that both 1 & 2 in the overall have ben DQ'ed this season!
Or even better: Rob and Claudio Muppets
I mean Jim Henson Muppets btw, I'm not using the term Muppet as an insult. I think Rob and Claudio are great guys.
Make your own conclusions with that
There's no way to tell unless you visibly took a spot like in XC racing.

UCI is freaking garbage. They need to have tabs for overall and just World Cup.
How hard is that?
