Remember, folks. The key to those drops and steep rolls is to go really, really slow.
  • 39 1
And pull a nice, big handful of front brake!
  • 147 3
And let your Ibis do the work.
  • 9 0
 and bunny hop
  • 11 0
@thustlewhumber: that clip is my vote for fail of the year!
  • 4 3
@thustlewhumber: too good! busted out laughing, I wonder how many get it ...
  • 6 0
 @MattyBoyR6: slow+ bunnyhop= full summersault.
  • 2 0
@MattyBoyR6: :44 Nails all points: Slow speed, bunnyhop, +bonus check yer nuts :'D
  • 7 0
@thustlewhumber: you can Ripmo ligaments that way.
  • 1 0
 @thustlewhumber:
Bin chicken for the win!!
  • 1 0
 And use your head!
  • 1 0
 Please, let’s stop riding drops!

Sorry, just kidding, let’s learn how to ride them.
  • 1 0
1:24 - note to self, swap scorpion kick for roundhouse next time.
  • 3 0
Get your weight back and drag that rear brake until your can feel your front tire starting to slam down off the thing...
  • 90 1
Man that one with the girl screaming "Oh my god!" Straight up swan dive off of that drop. That looked f*cking brutal.
  • 38 0
I would have screamed at that same pitch if I saw that live too, looked pretty damn bad.
  • 18 1
Yeah was pretty seriously risky for a neck injury.
  • 12 15
I love the difference between men and women when they see crashes. Guys are like "Ah shit here we go again." Girls are like, "Holy shit are you all right?"
  • 14 0
Yeah, I want to know if that guy's okay.
  • 7 0
I can’t do anything like that but did it look like he was even remotely the right speed? You have to be really good to huck that big of drop going that slow, right? Hope he was ok.
  • 5 0
@skylanebike: Pedal drop only fo sho. Dangerous Dan would go
  • 10 0
This one was too much for me. The kid hucking his bike into a stream is more my style of fail.
  • 5 0
@mobiller: yup checks out Smile , googled dangerous dan - m.youtube.com/watch?v=50cbRZai7VU
  • 5 0
 @skylanebike: Dangerous Dan = WOW!
  • 1 0
Yes, that was the worst (best) one. Looked nasty
  • 3 0
@speed10: his travelling stunt show was pretty gnarly too.
  • 2 0
@rockyflowtbay: but tell me this VH1, where is he now??
  • 3 0
@speed10: not VH1 but I believe he's a high school teacher, maybe physics?
  • 5 0
@speed10: correct. High school teacher. The Momentum tracks him down.
  • 53 2
Can we some e-bike fails please? In fact I'd like to see an entire Friday Fails dedicated to e-bike fails...
  • 29 2
I would unblock my e-bike coverage for that. Wait...what if they already did an e-bike fail edit??!
  • 4 0
@twozerosix: Lithium burns for long time.
  • 17 1
@twozerosix: yeah the rest of us have been really enjoying wEdnesday Fails this year.
  • 4 2
 @oldfaith: Thanks for the tip!
No, but seriously, isn't there a Prius burning in a meadow somewhere for like the last year or so? Burning a hole straight down to the molten core of Hell, 'cause that's where lithium starts.
  • 1 0
 @oldfaith: dammit! FOMO
  • 2 0
@RayDolor: Richard Hammond from TopGear/Grand Tour crashed an electric supercar which caught fire. The interesting part is the discussion after the crash about how it burned for five days. See 4:10.

@iamamodel: Upon a bit of reflection, it seems I may have got caught up in the excitement and became prone to a slight exaggeration.
I guess I'm just living in interesting times.
  • 7 0
Isn’t that just called ‘owning an eBike’?
  • 3 0
I'll throw my vote in for more fat guy fails. The low speed ones in particular.
  • 1 0
@RayDolor: oh, I know you were exaggerating - I was backing you up. They do burn pretty well. I would not have known without Top Gear.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel: Well alright, then, I guess that makes us bro's and all that. Salam and all that good shyte to you, Bro....
  • 38 0
"That right side is a little steep"

*takes the right side
  • 13 2
Nothing better than old man commentary on their solo filmed GoPro ride of them getting bucked over their 100mm stem (yes i saw it's not really a 100mm stem, but typically is haha)
  • 18 1
His goggles flying off was a nice touch!
  • 3 0
I know that exact spot of trail on the Porcupine Rim at Moab. I've personally crashed in the same area along with thousands of others. The steps are spaced perfectly so that its nearly impossible to ride it out if you pick the wrong line.
  • 28 0
2:20 looked real bad. Girlfriend thought he ded.
  • 21 0
that approach speed was a guarantee for a spectacular crash
  • 6 0
@f00bar: Yep. Darwin was watching and sayin "I told you..."
  • 23 0
You know you haven't got enough speed when your bike is close to ending up under the platform you're attempting to drop off
  • 10 0
If you still have to pedal up an 8ft long ramp before the drop you're in big trouble.
  • 2 0
@commental: seriously...I’m questioning everything I thought I knew about physics
  • 2 1
While he was going much too slow the sudden fail happened from 29er bum touch. That was a particularly bad one.
  • 27 2
How does Pinkbike editorial staff distinguish between legitimate attempts at freeriding (@3:30 for example) versus apparent attempted suicide by mountain bike? (@:24; @2:21, etc...).
  • 26 0
The opener is the best! His own bike beat the shat out of him. TWICE!! ROTFL!!
  • 15 0
That's for hucking me to flat yesterday! THUMP! And that's for that dirty and gritty chain! SMACK!
  • 3 0
you mean that double tire bonk? thought that was intentional.
  • 25 0
That's what happens when you wear goggles on Porcupine Rim.
  • 19 0
That feeling when you immediately know you need new rims.
  • 1 0
and that sound that only obliterated carbon rims make
  • 15 0
Im always amazed how people think coming into drops soooo slow is the way to go.....PHYSICS PEOPLE!!!
  • 17 2
They just let the ibis do the job
  • 1 0
I have a theory about that. Well, a hypothesis , anyways.
  • 6 0
An object barely in motion tends to not stay in motion.
  • 1 1
But then half the wrecks on here are guys hitting drops way too fast.
  • 2 0
 Lever arm, meet pivot.
  • 15 0
That might be the best opening clip I've seen. The berm>swimming hole gets honorable mention for this week.
  • 11 1
First one, a true hold my beer moment.
The second one "you gotta go harder than that" statement of the year lol
I better watch the rest now
  • 11 0
 I need a new rim...
  • 2 0
 Pure gold!
  • 8 0
Ohh backflip to double tap of bike to the face, that’s not a very nice risk/reward payoff.
  • 8 0
I'm halfway down a steep roll, would this be a good time to try a dismount? Mmm, probably not.
  • 6 1
Looked like he came unclipped, hit the ground with his foot and stiff-legged himself off the bike at exactly the wrong time.
  • 5 1
@invictarocks: I don't know, looked to me like he panicked at the top of the roll and tried to get a foot down to stop himself.
  • 6 0
Weight too far back, weight too far forward, grabs a fistfull of front brake, too much speed, too little speed, clips a tree, staring at the the front wheel. Same thing every week.
  • 5 0
Yeah how did 2:20 pan out? Is he alright? That was like a 5ft drop to his head. I swear it sounds like you can hear his neck crunching on impact.

Otherwise the commentary was great this week both from the riders and the spectators.
  • 12 6
Female filmers dropped the ball in this one.... camera goes to the ground and "OMG OMG" hahaha hold your angles!
  • 5 1
it's not the sex of the filmer, it's the fact that, much like who they are filming, they also don't really know what they're doing. Double fails!
  • 1 0
@plyawn: I'm not saying their gender is why they suck at filming, I'm just saying there was a high propensity of the female filmers in this edit to film the ground right when they shouldn't hahah
  • 1 0
@rideitall-bmx-dh-road-unicycle: gotcha - I think it was just a week of many female S.O.'s being talked into filming guys in way over their heads!
  • 1 0
@plyawn: and some ending the weekend taking the poor dumb man to the hospital hahaha
  • 5 0
That guy in Moab/Sedona is what I imagine happening to that crew from Iowa you meet in the shuttle van on the way to to the top of the enchalada and then never see again.
  • 2 0
Okay, so at 0:38 was there a gorilla chasing that kid or in the vicinity somewhere?! And you knew when dude said it was a little steep at 3:10 that he was going to eat it somewhere steeper..could barely contain myself waiting!
  • 4 0
I like when you fall on your face and someone behind you says 'that's gotta hurt...'... Really?
  • 4 0
I wonder how many times the guy in the second video has heard... "you gotta go harder than that?"
  • 1 0
Well...my silly little feature gets a run again because some peanut thinks it's something it isn't. Hint: if it's a steep inverted V then hitting it hard enough to huck it to flat is going to do exactly that...so either don't do that or be prepared to do that.
  • 1 0
I had a fall this last week myself while I was alone that resulted in stitches on my ankle. In my mind, it was a super small little bail to the side that i popped right back up from but its still gonna keep me out for a couple weeks. After watching these bails and comparing them to mine, i gotta ask myself how many injuries (serious injuries no less) that come from these highlight reels. Anyone else have stories of them falling alone and getting hurt? or is it just me being that stupid?
  • 2 0
Literally every crash was either someone going too fast on a jump and wiping out, or someone going too slow on a drop and wiping out....
  • 2 2
You know, it amazes me that so many people cannot nail their rebound settings. Until I remember that it took a shockwiz for me to understand mine.

Mine was set too fast because I assumed I needed it to react to all of the trail. So fast it never even hit the high speed circuits designed for those features. End result was a major loss of control.

Get a shock wiz or watch this and go see if yours is too fast, feel like a lot of spines would be intact from this video if they had

  • 4 0
Tbh someone who would want to buy something as expensive as a shockwiz should already know how to set their suspension correctly. Forking (haha) $350 for a shock tune part is something that racers do, not the average joe.
  • 1 0
@Ajorda: rentals. $50 for a few days. I haven't done it but curious to see what it suggests compared to where I've set mine.
  • 7 0
 Shock setup:
1. set sag at 25-30%
2. dials set it so it feels good off the lips of jumps and you're not getting bucked or dead sailoring everything
3. tweak it slightly to accommodate the chunder in your area.

spend the $350 on a pass to your local bike park. Win.
  • 1 0
@Ajorda: I spent a decade in the industry, owned dozens of full suspension bikes and would have said my set up was perfect until a suspension engineer pointed out that my settings were too fast. Knowing how to set up a bike is a lot different than knowing what works best. I guarantee most people’s rebound is waaaaaaay too fast and they aren’t hitting blow off circuits or high speed rebound circuits. That video was helpful and free. The average joe can watch that and get a better handling bike for a few minutes of their time

flag usedbikestuff (Jul 17, 2020 at 9:51) (Below Threshold)
@ranke: most of the people in these videos are jumping for the first time or not catching air intentionally. Most of these are always the result of the wheel rebounding too fast. Watch the video for free and pocket $350 for the rainy day fund when covid goes into 2021 and we all lose our jobs
  • 10 0
@usedbikestuff: I love the implication that most of these people would have been fine if only their rebound was slower
  • 2 0
@thegoodflow: Yea, those who approach a drop way too slow in particular. Should have set the rebound right.
  • 5 0
@pioterski: I assumed they were on the wrong wheel size or running an obsolete hub standard. Good to know they can fix all their problems with a few clicks of rebound
  • 3 0
0.36 sounded like the classic kids "if I don't laugh I'm going to cry" laugh
  • 1 0
that time of the week when I get to read original and witty comments like 'let the Ibis do its job,' 'e-bikes suck,' 'physics bro,' 'the 100mm stem on that one guy lol,' 'dentist biker on a yeti at 3:02.'
  • 2 0
2.44 i broke my collar bone on that drop last year. done it hundreds of times but one mistake and your instaf*ked.
  • 3 0
 trolololololol 1:37 is gold
  • 4 4
Now after they watched Christine's video on how to do drops, they should do it again with the camera rollit. Bet it will have the same outcome. So...Friday Fails 128 and 127 will be the same ????
  • 3 0
opening dude got the elusive double-tap
  • 2 0
They were all lucky to be riding 29ers, flats and with dropper post or may have been hurt.....
  • 3 0

  • 1 0
Funny how many of them ride like s**** but wear no knee pads, no vests and half face helmets!
  • 1 0
iPhone really needs to allow the compression of their videos to be less restricted.
  • 1 0
I love how "Oh" means the same thing in every language.
  • 1 0
Every week I laugh...or I feel like I'm climbing the rope in gym class.

Does 1:56 qualify as a fail or rather a mechanical failure?
Discuss.
  • 2 0
 Spectacular!!!!!
  • 1 0
Does the rider at 3:22 lose a wheel?
  • 1 0
You can buy a new bike, but you only get one set of knees.
  • 1 0
The back to back fail @2:44! Nice.
  • 1 0
ATTENTION NEW RIDERS!!!! When doing drops, SPEED IS YOUR FRIEND!!!
  • 3 3
These are the people in need of Geometrons and Poles. And skills.
  • 4 0
Or upper body strength and proper body position. Put them on a Pole and they will still crash, except twice as hard.
  • 1 1
 Purrrr fect!
