It's Christina's birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with a sick bike edit? No talking, no delays, just shredding. Happy Birthday Christina!
@christinachappetta: We share the same bday! I hit a ripe 52 today. I've been riding/racing obsessively since '87. My bikes have kept me at 6'2, 178lbs and 8% body fat for the past 35yrs.... although they've also put me in countless hospital stays and surgeries, but I wouldn't change a thing! The bicycle is easily mankind's greatest invention.
As a 72 year old, I find it amazing to read a bunch of whiney comments from 40 something year olds who feel they are ready to pack it up and be cast away on an iceflow to the eternal life of happiness (or whatever). Age, chronic injuries such as back pain and torn knee cartilages, and medical issues such as cataract and cancer surgeries slow you down, but they DON'T HAVE TO STOP you from enjoying cycling. Green trails become fun again and Blue trails provide all the "adrenaline" challenges. I find I am also gravitating towards gravel and bikepacking to supplent mountain biking. So far this year I have cycled 765 km, and we are just finishing winter here in the Great White North. I am not quite ready for an e-bike. I think the time to start whining about age is at 75, not 45! I will let you know in two years. Oh by the way, happy birthday Christina!
Okay Boomer.
Everyones situation is different, it's shit to be unable to ride double blacks flat out like you used to. Getting on the gravel bike or riding a blue isn't going to cut it.
It's also worse getting injuried when you're young, when you're old you're old it don't matter.
@inside-plus: There are different sources of adrenaline, but I agree with you...it's hard to want to shift to something different when you have truly been able to shred...more training (PT and other BS no fun stuff) to just be able to get to the same places. Acknowledging the serious shredding days might be behind you is difficult. Lowering your bar and massively increasing training to just be there takes a lot of the fun out of it...the curse of the adrenaline junky. I am personally struggling with it now. It sucks getting old...whatever old means to you.
Sweet riding..45 here still going at it like I was at 25..just sad that most my riding buddies have chose to take the easy way by riding with a motor on there bike .. maybe if I get handicapped or if make it to the 70's.. maybe then ..but to see healthy strong adults with there saddle down and motor rattling away is just sad.. pedal damn it!!.
Just hit 45 as well. Celebrated this weekend with four riding pals and tackled a rad loop made even more spicy with a half inch of late season snow. Never stop riding!
@sngltrkmnd:You've got plenty of good years left! Pretty quick, but got the hurt put on me by a 58 y/o last weekend racing. He was 292w nominal for almost 3 hours. Gray hair don't care about your feelings!
long may you continue, two regular attendees of my mtb group are 47 and 57, and theyre still flying up and down the hills keeping up with us younger lot, awesome to see
Happy birthday ya shredder. Gotta say, once Christina started popping up on PB all the time, my daughter perked up and got much more interested. She wasn't interested in any of the bro stuff so - thanks. She's much more stoked about riding watching the PB ladies which = more riding for dad & daughter. Thx for all the bashin!
The double nickel (55) for me on this upcoming Sunday. Looking forward to one of my strongest years ever this summer, aiming at 3500+ km of singletrack once again. Hope you had a great day. Thanks for the video.
At 40, my friends are starting to blame their ailments on their age, which IMO leads to them using age as an excuse to stop working out or to decrease intensity.
I've had back issues in the past year, but I also had back issues in my 20's! I had wrist issues this year, but I also had a couple wrist issues in my 20's. Injuries or temporary pains happen, but if you start blaming them on your age, you'll start using your age as an excuse to be less fit.
It's not your age. Bodies break down and bodies heal, young and old. Of COURSE there is eventually an age-related decline but I think it's a lot older than most people think it is. Keep at it.
The worm will turn. Turning 49 this year. The older I get, the tougher it is to get my body moving from rest. Once I am up and running, I can still do things I could do in my 30s. The problem starts to show itself when I try to keep workout volumes and intensities high enough to keep the train rolling. The recovery times become an issue and you slowly lose some of what you had, simply due to reducing volume and intensity in order to cope with the body age and recovery needed.
Not to mention the mental effort it takes to get up and running from rest. It is so much more difficult as you age, it becomes a mental game on top of the physical one. It all just becomes harder and harder. I see why some of your buddies start leaning on that "age" crutch.
It's not that you don't have injuries or issues young vs old. It's only that things take longer to heal when you're old. I completely agree on the use it or lose it. Adding Yoga and stretching to your routine is critical for us old geezers.
@Mpblikes2ski: Eventually age does become a factor, my point is that too many people I know call it a factor before it really is. Especially with endurance sports you can carry that fitness well past your 40's. Friends my age are now attributing injuries to age, which tends to lead to working out less, which means less fitness. I'm 39 and feel the same as I did when I was 22, and my fitness objectively hasn't declined.
Use it or lose it. And don't stop "using it" because you think you're getting old.
This probably is less true for high-impact sports rather than endurance sports.
Quitting riding because of age is sad. Staying active is definitely the key… but don’t kid yourself about recovery. It’s not the same and once past 40 gets worse every year.
Age literally slows down healing process and fast twitch fibre regeneration. There is a reason most elite athletes are done by 35.
You're being a bit of a dick and using confirmation bias as your argument, your mates are probably quite sad about not being able to perform like they used to. They might well have had much worse injuries than you that do serious damage. Even people in their 20s get messed up and can't do the same sports anymore.
Happy Birthday! I put out a video of me at my job on my birthday too, it was SICK!!!
Sent an email, conf call, turned in my TPS reports, another email, read some research, did some math, email, email, conf call, conf call, email while on conf call, Pinkbike while on conf call, email.
When I was young and someone told me that they could not pedal hard because of their age, I thought to myself: "At your age, i'll be stronger, because i'll have 10 years of training behind".
Today - close to my 40s - i ride an e-bike and have a nice belly ... naaah i ride harder than 10 years ago!
You know how we have those few riders we really enjoy watching shred, Christina you own that spot as my favorite female. Just oozing the flow and style in every video now days. I'll be saving this one to show my wife and daughters as well. Hope you squeezed a Happy Birthday ride!!
I turned 43 on the 16th and I can honestly say my 23 year old self couldn't even begin to keep up with me now.
Happy BDay to ya with yr 'Murican accent slinging-self! That Zeb...chef's kiss! I love mine. I had the same "wow" moment going from a 36 to Zeb as I did going from a quick release to a thru-axle fork forever ago.
seeing those oldschool rippers out on the trail is the SICKEST! last summer I was on a pretty solid climb, just chugging away, when a guy on a super mountain EEB comes scootching by. A few minutes later, I rode up on an OLD gent on a touring bike with panniers and all crunching up the relatively chunky climb. I grinned and said hi, knowing that the lamer before me had to pass this man on a plug in bike. If that right there isnt reason alone to say no to eebs I dont know what is.
Gal in vid didnt look like age was a concern and was a ripper. Style!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Christina! Nice edit And love the channel Can’t you make a video of how to do that whippy scrub thing you did on the big jump? Keep up the steeze!
Also a 3/22 bday! Happy birthday Christina and thanks for kicking ass, being a great pb personality, and looking damn good while doing it . Cheers to many more .
Yes, if using PC just eject your disk drive and put your credit card inside, it will read your card and set up the payment method. If using a smartphone then you will need to connect your card via USB
I put a $5 bill in the cd drawer but now it’s stuck? I can’t get the cd drawer to open again and it never read the payment? How do I get my money back? And I still can’t watch the video great work smh
Happy birthday Christina!
