Its a bit of a dick move making that jump so critical for time but also so dangerous. There needs to be a better run in for it...I know it's downhill but that feature is pretty 'local race' if you get what I mean.
yeah I think so too, that jump is a little too big and a do-or-die kinda jump. At least don't make the chicken line that much slower so the slower riders don't feel forced into jumping it
Yea, when was the last time one feature cracked at least a half dozen dh frames in half?. I bet you after this year, and what seem like a decent number of injuries from failed attempts it will get a rework for next year.
@bashhard: I mean, it's meant to be ridden by the best in the world. If you can't line it up then take the ride around. People constantly crash and breake parts along the whole track. Remember last year or the year before like 50 people fell on a course marker that was like 3 inches too close to the best line, it must have been a 10th faster at mostand yet everyone went for it.
As someone that cannot & will not ride in muddy conditions, I have mad respect for all of these riders. Also hate cleaning gunk outta my frame & every nook & cranky after just a wet ride, much less one that adds 2-3lbs of mud to the bike. Cats in water, me in mud… dunno how ya do it but I can't wait to watch!
Is it just me wondering whether I could survive a full run on a World Cup DH Track? Since I don’t have access to any of these trails I’d love to see how other „advanced“ riders would fare. Could make for an interesting PB show.
Your a good human Ben. Some totally get off on racing on razor blades with molten lava on every turn. There is a very high probability of those incredible humans mastering this impossible track!!!
Has a DH race ever been cancelled due to poor or dangerous conditions? In World Cup ski races it’s not unusual to postpone or cancel. Organizers carry cancellation insurance for that possibility.
I think yes for thunderstorms, but rain has always been part of the experience as far as I’ve seen. I have a feeling that “the weather is making the track stupid hard” means the race is a go, but “it’s dangerous for people to be outside right now” is grounds for cancellation.
Opening myself to abuse here, but they shouldn’t be riding in those conditions. Mud+trying to go as fast as possible = life threatening mistakes and injury.
The courses are tough enough without adding tonnes of gloop on top and breaking riders up
I don't think it is more dangerous than in the dry. you are a lot slower and the mud dissipates some of your kinetic energy if you fall. Yes, you fall more often, but the crashes are less hard.
@bashhard: I’m sure Vali’s broken ankle from the 2020 world champs will agree with you. Several riders have also crashed hard on that jump in practise this weekend
