From clapped out hardtails to carbon race machines, we loved getting to meet some of you and checking out your rides in our Daily Driver Bike Checks video series. Where should we head to next? Look out for us at the trails as we continue this series into 2022.
@iliveonnitro: I guess we can only go by the info we have, hey? If we want to assume, I was assuming they had a lot more than 15 various editors working for Outside publications before the acquisition.
@notoutsideceo: Off topic but seemed like you, Robin, are the person to bring this to... Any plans in the near future for a Pinkbike app or at least a dark mode for the website?
@seismicninja: Thanks for the question. As noted in the other thread where several Pinkers have taken on to smearing my character, I'm trying to do a part 2 of the PinkPod and at that time I will be addressing these types of questions - I've added this one to the list.
The big companies always have a negative aspect ... first there is the enthusiasm for the contribution that the new ownership will bring, we will expand our services, we will reach more users etc ... But the truth is that most of the time the property it is made up of individuals who simply want to make money off the shoulders of employees and users, losing passion and innovation. Pinkbike will bounce from one holding to another ... as long as it doesn't lose users and therefore value. You will see that somewhere some Purplebike will be reborn and there will be the transfer of users
If I was in charge @sspiff would get today's I'm-Not-Sure-How-This-Fits-In-But-Good-Find-Anyway gift card.
Disclaimer: Did not yet read the full linked union article but will...and am still confused by how one gets from Daily Rides to Jimmy Hoffa or back again.
@blacktea: I have been part of three M&A jobs in my career. Each one I ended up quiting my job. The thing that kills me is when the parent company says something similar to, '... our companies share a great deal of synergy...', which just comes down to reducing headcount and piling on more work to the surviving group. Which is why as a reader of PB I got so pissed about the Outside acquisition, because PB was the place I go to get away from that stuff when I can't ride my bike.
As someone who works in print media, I totally get this. My company has cut staff and budget while also raising expectations consistently, to the point now where there is way too much work for the staff we have and we will have to look towards outsourcing, after which all but about 3 of us will lose our jobs. Executives look at print and ask, "Why does this cost so much?" Add in the fact that the paper is all stuck on boats and the printing presses don't have enough staff, and well... we're f*cked. So I say, more power to the Outside Union. But also update your resumes.
@REZEN: Funny thing is that the ones in need of a union oppose it the most. Guess that is where the brain wash cycle from the right falls on most fertile ground…
I think we had a love-in about that fork on the original video post. If only they'd re-make the Marz RC3 ti series in modern wheelsizes/offsets. I feel like I'm still trying to recapture the awesomeness of those forks now.
@chakaping: There will never something that feels like that again until we have a coil springs with larger volume oil baths again. Im hoping the new dorado with a coil spring swapped in might get close.
Also had a 888 rc3 ti personally. It was magical. So so confidence inspiring and comfortable to ride.
@cougar797: I had the 44, 55, 66 and 888 at various points. The 55 was my personal favourite and I'd love to try a 29er version with 42mm offset. They all just made rocks disappear and felt so composed, it was exhilarating.
This needs to be a weekly feature. I would absolutely sit through 15 minutes per week of randos talking about their bikes. I love hearing the stories of where the bikes came from, what they changed, what they didn't, etc.
Agreed. Tho back in ~2005 I thought the super fat curvy top tube of the first gen nomad was sexy as hell too. So maybe the thin straight tt is just what's in fashion at the moment?
Indeed. I loves me some steel frames. If the top tube angle moves visually right into the seat tube, even better. Hard to do on a squishy but on a hard tail, c'est magnifique.
Link to photo? That was one of my dream bikes when I started out, and all I could afford was a 2001 GT iDrive 3.0 as a soft tail to ride with all my friends on their stinky's, VPS, and big hits. I thrashed that bike but it just kept going.
I was the same, had a gt richochete trying to keep up with ny friends. The show had a big hit comp on display i drooled over everyday. I built this one roughly based off of byron grays bike in drop in season 1 i always loved the pearl white!
@Jaib06: i think so, still looking for a couple parts and might repaint the rear linkage but love it! RIDES LIKE A....well exactly what you expect from a 24/26 mullet with 20 year old tires!! Lol but it brings me back!
@Bike-guy2323: Mother of God that is awesome. I wonder if you source replacement decals so you could give it a fresh paint job. It would be totally worth it.
@ShawMac: i have a source for decals, just dont have the time to do a new paint job right now but its definately in the cards, im balancing 6 old school builds right now so gotta prioritize builds. My main focus is a mullet 27.5/26 gen 1 nomad retro mod, and a 2003 dekerf implant(which will be getting a new paintjob first!) The top tube decals are acctually new as it came to me with no decals. I ordered them a long time ago from a guy in poland.
@christinachappetta, A few good spots for daily drivers, Tiger Mt, Post Canyon and Galby would all be interesting. If Robin has the budget an early spring trip to the dessert would be nice also
Be safe be well,
