The sheer amount of steel bravery needed to just send this stuff is insane. So glad seeing these rad women go at it!
  • 39 0
Even with the quieter audio I would have prefered the cheering of the other participants to the cheesy drama music soundtrack. My only small complaint to otherwise awesome coverage of the entire event!
  • 11 0
Came here to say exactly the same! That "soundtrack" is annoying!!! I want to hear the girls and the bikes!
  • 6 0
@yoobee: nearly impossible with the drone action going on but at least you got some of my annoying shouts along the way haha I've now lost my voice.
  • 1 0
@christinachappetta: Hi Christina, shout as loud as you can!! Big Grin It's just amazing how these girls progress! I've been climbing around the Rampage site in 2015 so I know what it looks like in real Eek

BTW: There's FFT filters to remove the drones Wink

@christinachappetta: Just watched the 3 Full Top-to-Bottom video - this! Big Grin

I think I owe these riders an apology, I didn't take this event seriously at first but these are clearly some of the most elite riders in the world, period.
  • 14 0
They make it look easy. I can't imagine what it's like to ride with the wind blowing you around up top with that exposure, plus bright sunshine, dust and the buzzing of a drone in your ear. Nicely done.
  • 14 8
I don’t think they care about you or your apology.
  • 10 8
@dirtyburger: Awe I was wondering where the trolls were, haven't been on here in awhile I was afraid maybe they got lives or something. Glad to see you haven't left your mom's basement, she'd be lonely.
  • 12 3
@Moe2344: He's not wrong though. They're not out there sending it to get apologies from people who previously held unfair, sexist views. They don't care about the opinions from people like you.

The progression is pretty wild, I hope they're able to rip another venue site next year to get some fresh lines and sends. Solid coverage by PB as well.

 period.....nicely played sir

You trolls are all right, apparently there is no room in this world for people's perceptions to change, I mean why would we want to give people a chance to progress and change their views and opinions

 @Moe2344: No one cares.

rad event. would seriously be ok with rampage moving to this format - just a big gnarly jam session with no contentious judging to take away from the spirit of the event.
  • 4 0
Agreed! The riders really excelled when they got to shred together and even hit each other's lines/features
  • 16 1
The sky rocketing talent of the new women riders is so impressive. These women just blew up the glass ceiling. So many new names to learn and careers to watch with my daughter sitting beside me seeing the sky’s the limit!
  • 26 17
Why not the same coverage as Rampage. This was just as awesome and it would be great to see live coverage. Well done ladies and you certainly are brave.
  • 20 0
It is a week long session. There isn’t a start and stop time to do your run.
  • 18 0
Rampage does immediately come to mind, since Formation is at a former Rampage site. However I think a more apt comparison in terms of coverage would be other freeride events that are also not scored competitions, such as Audi Nines or Darkfest.
  • 5 0
The format doesn't really match with a live broadcast cometitionp. It's build + session + progress so I think the multiday share as the event unfolds is a really good approach, kind of like DarkFest. As the event grows I think coverage will also increase.
  • 9 10
How many times do they have to say this is for fun, mutual support and progression? Who wants a bunch of kooks from REDBULLTV hanging around? The women control the event and the coverage, as it should be. Watch the Stanley Cup or something if you need to quantify Sport. Sry about the 'Leafs.
  • 11 1
@suspended-flesh: Well, it still is a "Red Bull" event and not competitive but some coverage on the day would be great. I saw Arcteryx as a sponsor there so would be good to see something on the day. Why does one need to "quantify" sport. Can one simply not juist enjoy watching something where we do not get to see on a regular basis. Squirrel suit flying is somethin I could watch too on Redbull TV so why not this?

Also, don't "assume" all Canadians are hockey fans end especially Leafs fans. That is the "other" Canada after-all :-). I guess those are "fighting words" but still fun banter though.

Okay, enough said.....
  • 9 2
@suspended-flesh: It's the Red Bull Formation. Clue's in the name Wink

@disruptiveone: You ARE watching it here and now. Yes, it will be on RBTV later. I'm just pushing back against commenters who seem to want Live analysis and commentary from.....who? It isn't needed. The Leafs dig was over the top, especially when I'd say 60% of US PB commenters cannot even name the capital of Canada. No hard feelings....
  • 7 2
@suspended-flesh: Maybe "push back" in a less dickish way then. If people want live coverage of an event that's fair enough. I don't see how live coverage provides any kind of quantification, nobody mentioned scoring. I agree with you I don't think it would benefit from live coverage, but just don't be c*nt about it Smile
  • 4 2
@suspended-flesh: Nobody asked for it to be quantified. It's a week long sesh which is why it couldn't be covered live (which is nice tbh) so just say that, there's no need to "push back" at anyone.
  • 3 3
 @Jackaboo: @redrook: HAHA yall civilized
  • 3 3
@suspended-flesh: If basic comprehension is civilized then you bet Wink
  • 3 3
@redrook: Odd that I didn't resort to name-calling. You're the one who essentially called me a d1ck and a cvnt, right? Right? Maybe you're not the full shilling ya numpty......
  • 3 3
@suspended-flesh: Because you were being dickish and c*nty. I never claimed to be civil, this is hardly the place for being civil.
  • 4 3
@suspended-flesh: Technically he said you were being dickish, and implied you were being a c*nt. At this point I'm gonna add butthurt bitch too. But hey, we're just "pushing back" Smile
  • 2 3
@Jackaboo: Stay gobblin' at the chum bucket....

@suspended-flesh: Keep proving the point Wink

Push ups for Jordie. Big ups for nailing this and every other moment. Just pure radness, what an event.
  • 5 0
that was a very special moment up there waiting for riders to drop run 1 ❤️
  • 8 0
I need to rewatch this on a much much bigger screen.

These women are just sick. The pure progression of the women's side of freeride might be faster than any other sport.

Thinking this would be on redbull (yeah, my fault) I worked my lady & daughter into a frenzy to watch this, as they always watch Rampage but then ppffttzzzz....nothing. I'm all about PB and other coverage but does anyone know if there's gonna be a 2-3 hr block on redbull anytime w/ this? I get that is not the competition dudes rampage is - totally fine. We just wanna see it all from building to hanging out, behind the scenes, practice or the actual runs. Seems like a freakin' fest...dunno why at least a docu-style piece wouldn't be possible. I'll be there's easily 3-4 hrs of footage out there and most of us would watch it.
  • 11 1
dang dude your wild overestimation of footage went up by an hour by the time you finished your comment. Groundbreaking!
  • 6 0
all you're asking for is on the Red Bull bike youtube channel. Digging, first hits, behind the scenes. And I'm pretty sure full runs and a highlight docu and stuff will follow too!
  • 4 3
@owl-X: I was hoping for a 2-3 hr block (like rampage) but speculating there mist be 3-4 hrs footage to pull from. Sorry I didn't pass your strict analysis protocols in speculating
edited vs raw times… Ill file my papers in the AM
  • 1 0
@luisgerstner: Talking about a legit 2-3 hr (whatever) program vs snippets
  • 2 0
They may be using the bulk of the footage to put together another one of their Films/Documentaries.
They did it last year so it's not without precedent. www.redbull.com/us-en/films/progression
Who knows, it may be in Postproduction right now.
  • 2 0
 @Mtn-Goat-13: I admire your optimism.
  • 4 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: Perhaps one day we can get there but as a person on the ground at this Progression Session, I can tell ya.. the wind was gnarly!! and the amount of water needed (in legit 100 degree F) throughout the day on each line was immense! It helped to keep everyone hyped and confident knowing they weren't on massive time constraints. But I am personally stoked that everyone wants more coverage! With this support, it will come.
  • 1 0
@christinachappetta: I'm def not thinking it has to be guys-event repeat or live, and def thinking docu-style (etc) that just shows the parameters of the event w/o time constraints...just good times. Clipping this from @Augustus-G (above) - www.redbull.com/us-en/films/progression . So - I guess this is kinda already precedented and 1) I didn't even know this one came out and 2) how about a 2-3 hr version redbull?
  • 1 0
@owl-X: I woulldn't even call it optimism. Hell, I come back from a 3-5 day bikepartk trip and each of my buds have 1.5-2 hrs of gopro edits done up & linked to from the drive up & back, effin' around at house, riding, drinking & being idiots. Just saying the raw footage is there (I'd bet there's even over 100 hours, all sources combined) and putting up a non-live / docu-style video seems like it wouldn't be a stretch considering how many resources are already going into the event - which is a lot.

I'm just saying that with all the categories redbull publishes - including vid-gaming, which is as exciting as watching chess or ping-pong - that they easily have bandwidth, funds, and there's obvious interest even as (or especially as) a post-event documentary (or series, whatever) anyone can kick back with... seems like a gimme.
  • 1 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: sounds like your buds need to pitch this to Red Bull Media House.
  • 2 0
@owl-X: Anytime I think I'm making too much sense to myself and wondering why something isn't happening I usually just need to STFU and chill. Still...does make me wonder why a docu-version of this (even in a few weeks, whatever) doesn't seem to be on the radar. They promote the event but only give us clips...surely the footage is there. Hell - I'm gonna write a letter!

Cami Nogueira's line looked absolutely bonkers.

@shredskyy: All is forgiven here in this sanctuary of civility.
  • 3 0
Too bad they didn't show her full run. Maybe the best.
  • 5 0
@slayerdegnar: Red Bull just posted a pretty much raw edit with full runs from each of Robin and Hannah and Cami.
  • 1 0
That was epic. Audio was impressive, directional microphone?
  • 3 0
Did I miss Vaea’s final run or did she not finish the session. Was looking forward to seeing her run. She has been a favorite of the North American racers. Had the chance to watch her claim the second step at the US Open in 2019.
  • 3 0
Unfortunately, Vaea took a slam on day 2 that kept her from riding more. She seems to be in great spirits now but keep an eye out for her line and riding bc she was SENDING it!
  • 3 0
Major props to all the ladles out there... You all send it huge!

I really enjoyed watching this.. Reminded me of the early Rampage years where line selection was more important than flips and spins.. I hope to see more footage from/ his event!
  • 6 0
I'm just here for the Vinny whips.
  • 5 1
We have a trail called “Pure Ovaries”. That s what s needed for those lines !
  • 1 1
@redmountaingoat Oh man, I forgot about Pure O. That trail was intro to desert freeriding for me. Way ahead of its time!
  • 5 0
Vero is fast and full of steeeeze !!
  • 4 0
It seems they shared lines more than the male version, which is better in my book.
  • 2 0
 retroactively shared with them though!
  • 3 0
I'm so stoked and impressed with this RAD women, they are incredibly talented. I'm madly in love with Vero's style, I think she puts a lot of salsa to her tacos.
  • 4 3
What am I, on hold with telus?! This music is nasty. This is a video that in 15 years will be stumbled upon and make people realize how lame the “old days” were. On account of the music. I’m sure the riding is rad but I made it a minute and that’s all.
  • 3 0
 Volume control?
  • 1 0
I noticed the same issue. You can tell whoever edited this video didn't care and just slapped on some random royalty free music just to get it done. It made the whole video feel corny as hell.
  • 4 0
Insane riding to all! Nice work Kelsey on the video !
  • 5 1
Cami's line WTF!! Those ovaries of steel must weigh a ton. Amazing chute.
  • 8 0
Her line was so gnarly and scary. Straight down. Rad that she went and did it again after that crazy crash
  • 2 0
I know no one is supposed to 'win' Formation, but geez, her run went beyond.
  • 4 0
@Yerts: and that's why she got the Spiciest Line award LOL she's a machine!
  • 3 1
I agree, so what if it's not a competition, it would be great to have some profiles of the riders and interviews, plus some context of what we are watching.
  • 1 3
There is coverage, but its behind the pay wall
  • 1 0
@chokoma: Maybe here w/ Beta / Outside coverage but Redbull surely has enough vid-footage to cover a couple of post-event film for fans to watch later at some point...or rather, why wouldn't they? Is a baller women's event like this less interesting that watching teenagers play games on Redbull 24/7?

In light of that - and not even giving a 2 hr summary of Formation (think about it: surely there's footage of the whole thing from arrival, greetings, building, general hijinx, practice, actual rides, behind the scenes - whatever) - the fact that you can watch morons play video games on RB all day long any day (and even live) is pretty insulting compared to actual talented athletes not getting covered...and because why? Kinda makes it look like they don't care about women but "gamers" are something special.
  • 3 0
Well i don't think that could have gone much better, well done ladies, you all crushed it.
  • 3 0
Really enjoyed all the coverage of Formation....great event!
  • 1 1
Where can I exchange my balls for ovaries? Definitely don’t have confidence to send these lines. These gals are killin it. They seriously need to have a woman class at RedBull Rampage 2022.
  • 3 1
Had to pause to say the looped music sucked! Obviously I’m not alone on feeling that…
  • 2 0
Thanks for posting PB . Back flips , sick tables and wiked gnar . Fun watch.
  • 2 0
This is what Rampage should have been like.
  • 2 0
Amazing! I would pay good money to see this live!
  • 2 2
69th coment yes!!! I am personally stoked for the future of this competition/formationGood job that's a lot of work well done

Pinkbike: "Lets promote womens freeride" Also pinkbike: "Lets put the photo gallery on our subscription-only platform"
  • 1 0
Same with Redbull though: watch gamers all day / every day and even live but a womens freeride event - pppppppffffffftttzzzzzzzzzz. Nah...we can't make a video of that later..
It's nothing but short clips. I'm a broken record here, but surely there's footage enough over the course of the event to do up a 2-hr post-event video of the whole thing...or does Redbull really not actually give a shit about womens events? I'm being facetious b/c they do cover womens' XC, DH, slope and other sports - so I don't understand why the ovaries-of-steel women here just get clips all around various media and/or Redbull and not a whole program summarizing the whole event we can kick back & glorify in.
  • 2 0
 Much RESPECT, Thank you PINKBIKE!
  • 2 0
 No run from Vaea?
  • 2 0
 she had a crash.
  • 4 0
Ridge hip took her out. Hope nothing serious? No word on IG and she's already talking about next year so assuming not bad.
  • 1 0
Was Gemma there as a digger or did she fall early on or something?
  • 2 0
Gemma was digging and such a pleasure to have around. Strong lady and insanely good rider!
  • 1 0
 It's all about being fluid...
  • 1 0
Looks like a bunch of chyx going off. See what I did there.
  • 1 0
Vero was robbed, she clearly won it !
  • 8 9
So Red Bull didn't cover this live like Rampage? That's weak.
