by Pinkbike Originals

It's been over a decade since Tom Bradshaw has found himself between the tape on a DH course, but while he was down in Rotorua for Crankworx he couldn't resist the urge to give it a go once again.

Well done, Tom. Let's get you to a 100 mile gravel race in the spring...we can see which Outside employee is fastest when the terrain turns from rowdy to gravely - you want in on this too @mikelevy ?

Be safe be well,

Even though outside acquired pinkbike this is still pinkbike not outside and always will be.

@AFunFox: Check your email. A couple days ago Pinkbike/outside officially announced paid and premium content on Pinkbike for outside plus users.

@Mr-Steven-Harper: I saw the email it’s just triggering that pinkbike is being bought by a company not worthy of something so great.
(I already have Trailforks pro does that mean anything?)

The fact that he could commentate during his race run and self motivate all together is astonishing! Also makes for one of the most exciting ways to view the sport for spectators! Well done Tom!!

@Tombrad: Sort your flag out mate.

@inside-plus: It is. Once you come to BC, Canada, it's like the Hotel California, "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
Wink

@rrolly: I wish that was true, I had to leave.

@inside-plus: exactly what i thought , but oh well maybe he identifies as Canadian

Well done Tom-o! Loved this piece and could tell you were proper worried haha but you saved the best and cleanest run for last when it counted most. Even I want to do a DH race now!

How good! You got so much better on your race run than your first (dry) practice laps. Sadly, your performance improved as your commentary became intelligible which is usually the draw of a good Tom edit. Probably just needed more steak pies!

Great video, but it's a widely known fact that only serial killers don't put sauce on their pies.

NZ pies are that good ya dont need sauce Smile

Well done @Tombrad! I know how you feel. I hadn't raced a DH since I was a junior expert at the US National champs in Mammoth back in 2004, and this past season I competed in Two DH races with the NW Cup. It felt so good to get back between the tape. Good on ya mate! Keep up the good content. Cheers!

Mans kept it fairly pinned in the race run! Super entertaining, infinitely less cringey/awkward than the average PB barney. More of this guy please.

Excellent racing Tom! All the coverage of this track has me convinced this must be one of the most fun tracks to race.

Cheers Jimmy! This track is all time - it’s been raced since ‘05 and still has some of the classic pieces

Thanks DuelingBanjos, fair to say they found their target a fair few times ha

@Tombrad: Nicely done, my man! That offcamber stuff can be mighty sketch. Not bad after a decade!

@Tombrad: that was great mate, I was with you the whole way.got me keen to do a DH race myself!!

@notoutsideceo … I don’t care who owns pink bike, it was still good content and fun to watch. PS, No one, and I mean no one wants to watch 100 mile gravel race, BORING.. even if @mikelevy was racing. Great job @Tombrad -Cheers

These race videos are awesome! @tombrad How have you built up your speed over the years? What have you found to be the most important thing or things?

check out cathro's how to bike series! full of great tips for just about every aspect of getting you and your bike moving quicker, and plenty of advanced stuff in there for non-beginners that can take a season or more to get down

most important thing - pies. lots of pies.
  • 1 0
@jbirdz , @rcwellie has good point.. you can't go wrong with pies, kiwi meat pies to be exact. But also for me, it's about setting little personal goals. Make them super achievable and that gets my confidence up. Also, have a laugh. Eat pies.

Well done, Tom! It sounded like over those few days your bike pretty much went from dead-silent to pretty rattly, didn't it?

Doesn't Psychosis count as a DH race?
  • 4 0
It does kinda, but he raced it on a hard tail hahah and it has a mean pedalling/hike a bike section so not really imho
