Funny you talk about riding exposure trails being scary. I ride those trails without a second thought. But, I see you guys hitting big jumps and get scared. I guess it's all what we are used to riding!

It's all relative isn't it haha I'd much prefer wet roots to dry, kitty litter any day!

That’s what is so cool about MTB. Almost nobody is good at everything, there is always something to learn.

big jumps are easier than exposure. if you know you've got it, youre good. exposure is too risky

@mariomtblt: that's why the battleship should be worth more at that big MTB event

@mariomtblt: isn't it the same with exposure? Big Grin if you know you've got it you're good? I'm not really for either but it seems to be the same logic..I personally would rather opt for big jumps and figure out the magic for those rather than for exposed stuff..makes my palms sweaty just thinkin' about them while typing this..

Being way up in the air is its own kind of exposure. Speed is exposure. Tech is exposure. Steep is exposure. It’s all really context dependent. Not sure if we could claim that air is safer.

@mozsombi: you’re probably right, but the thought that if I pedal strike, I’d probably die. takes away my certainty haha!

Good start on the relaunch. Christina and Henry look a little embarrassed to be there, but that’s part of the charm. I think tying in the previous week’s news and content is a good idea. Lots of discussion and good-natured fun to be had dissecting Friday fails. As for advice? Lose those bionic booms, obv. If you want to be unique, let the presenters be as authentic as they can possibly conjure. Let Henry be the vulnerable, philosophical old soul he sometimes wobbles into. Let Christina be the snarky coonass she appears to be. Kaz is gonna be Kaz…stoic no frills NPR New Englander. Dario…unknown quantity for the most part so far. But, if you watch the Blues Brothers movie, he’s clearly seen in the second police car in the mall chase scene. Sarah, Alicia, Seb, Brian, you get the idea… Lastly, how about a featured reader’s ride at the end of each episode? The presenters could either laud the bike or lambast it.

Amazing, thank you for the coonass remark, I appreciate that LOL Noted about the mics...we'll see what we can do and as for readers' rides... we mayyy have something in store for you next week but of course, no promises!

I can hardly handle watching a video of someone riding Portal without freaking out. I dont think I'd be able to ever handle that amount of exposure.
  • 5 0
It's honestly worse on the video than in real life. The signs give you plenty of warning ahead of when to dismount (there's plenty of room to do so at those spots)

@pmhobson: Still had my heart racing! But that also could have been because I hiked up it with my dh bike LOL won't be doing that again

@christinachappetta: Yeah, shuttle from Mag 7. I do not like the first more exposed part of Portal but the rest is great.
  • 1 0
@pmhobson: The first part still scares me but I agree... the typical cams used really overexaggerate and distort some things. I wish there was more footage from regular relatively undistorted cams in more vids.

@davec113: upon reflective, I last rode is in 6 or 7 years ago. So solidly in my mid-30s still.

Totally possible that I’d feel differently if you teleported me there right now.
  • 1 0
@davec113: I guess different people are different. I have ridden Portal 4 or 5 times, and the first part doesn't bother me, but there are a couple moves towards the end that always get me.
  • 2 0
@dmackyaheard: yeah. Challenges abound down low, but the exposure is far less.
  • 1 0
@pmhobson: For sure! I get the exposure, I guess it doesn't bother me. I have fallen off in an exposed section on Jacksons before... wasn't fun lol

New fear unlocked, the little shoelace roots...

Mis judging the thickness of the ice over water, and finding out by the cracking sounds coming up from under your tires is terrifying. How fast can you unclip? Spooky. But that OTB face-plant in the sandstone rut is PRICELESS. I'm buying a full face helmet for sure after watching THAT.

The trail donation kiosk is dope. We need those in every bike shop in the US.

I've never seen a PB magazine on any shelf anywhere ever. Just sayn.

I like the addition of the Friday Fails stuff. Funny that it debuts on a super-tame edition.

Those mics and booms are so distracting.

You got the "winner" of FF incorrect. It was #12 / #13. Those two clips were of the same fail from different perspectives. Add them up and #24 isn't close.
  • 2 0
I was incorrect that at the time of shooting it was #4 with the highest votes followed by #24. #12 must have really come on strong with the later voting haha I appreciate your analysis and commitment and hopefully rewatch of FF
  • 3 0
Definitely 4 was an mayor ouch, rocks on hips dont lie.

Video is great but could you release it as a podcast as well so that we can listen whilst doing other things?
  • 1 1
mmmm... I don't dislike this request, thanks for enjoying it that much! I feel like it's almost too similar to the start of the podcasts as they run now so not sure it's worth duplicating that vibe but the great things about videos are you can watch with no audio or listen with no video. We love options!!

#22 Friday Fails - hanger hooked a little hidden shoelace root looping out of the leaves. Sheared off XO T-Type hanger.
  • 1 0
Glad these are back, I really enjoyed the first 10, this one missed the mark though.
  • 1 0
Anything in particular? I'm super keen for the feedback and to know what yall want to see added or changed, without duplicating the podcast. Thanks for the comment

Oh yay , CC is back from wherever she was.
  • 1 0
haha thank you, had some knee surgery to spice up my fall and back in action!
  • 1 2
 Seriously, #lapelmics ftw.
  • 3 0
@eshew, do you have any recommendations? The ones we have seem to last 3 days and then they break.
  • 3 0
 @mikekazimer: Sony or Sennheiser.
