Update: Flo Payet Posts Video of the Moment a Course Pole Struck his Genitals and Took him Out of the Leogang World Cup
If the male anatomy was a cycling product, there would have been a massive recall long ago to address the "possible catastrophic failure due to exposed testicles" vulnerability in the design.

Throwback Thursday: How Much Have Mountain Bike Prices Changed in the Past 10 Years?
@HB208: Making yourself indispensable is also a double-edged sword. In some occupations, if you're too good at your job, you'll never get promoted or offered any other opportunities. You become the person who does this one niche thing that nobody else can do, and that's your job... then that niche thing goes away and you're laid off. My wife worked in a professional photo lab that was filled with people who had highly specialized skills with darkroom equipment and film processes. They were wizards at their craft, then they were kicked to the curb.

Video: POV Runs from Thibaut Daprela & Luca Shaw from the Leogang World Cup Downhill Track
Looks like Mario Kart after being hit by a squid. Also, as a maintainer of clay trails that do not fare well in wet conditions, that video caused me physical pain.

What's up with that gap jump at 3:45 that he went around? Looks like a bad day if you come up short.

Throwback Thursday: How Much Have Mountain Bike Prices Changed in the Past 10 Years?
@HB208: Sadly, you are correct. Changing jobs is the only way to get significant pay increases. It wasn't always this way though. My dad worked for the same company from 1969 until he retired a few years ago. He has a nice pension in addition to his retirement savings, which has made travel and a shiny new car possible. Pensions like that don't exist anymore for most jobs, so there's zero reason to stick with one employer. With so many people moving around, employers know they could replace you with someone cheaper, so there's no need to really give you a raise. It's a vicious cycle, and everyone loses in the end.

Jill Kintner Breaks Finger After High-Speed Impact with a Tree
Oh man, I feel that pain. I once got bounced into a chain link fence that lined the left side of the trail. The pinky of my left hand caught the fence and got pulled back in a very unnatural way. The finger stuck out funny and my whole hand swelled up. I thought I'd broken it and got referred to a hand specialist. He looked at the x-ray for an uncomfortable amount of time before declaring "well, you didn't break it, but you really f*cked it up". It's never a good sign when your doctor drops the f-bomb. Details followed: "You partially ripped the tendon off the bone, and it took a piece of bone along with it. I can't put a stitch in or it will stick inward instead of outward." So what do I do?, I asked. "Well, eventually you'll catch it on something and rip it the rest of the way off. Then come see me and I'll re-attach the tendon" That was over 10 years ago, so I guess I'm stuck with a pinky finger that hangs outboard a bit.
