Video: Cody Kelley's Riding is Next Level

Cody Kelley is easily one of the fastest, and most stylish people we know on a bike, and is one awesome human being on top of that. We were absolutely thrilled when he said he would be able to take a break from his busy Enduro World Series schedule to come visit us in the Pacific Northwest.

Cody Kelley flew out to the PNW to ride the some of the best dirt in the country We also happened to catch it on film so be sure to check out his video on our blog.

We made sure Cody's stay in the PNW was as hectic as possible. As soon as Cody landed at SeaTac Airport, we took him to Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park to film with the great Jeff Kendall-Weed and witnessed the creation of one of Cody's most popular #ManualMonday posts.

The next day we headed north to Bellingham with photographer Riley Seebeck of Flow Photo Co to capture the goods and to begin filming for Cody's personal video. Weather conditions were classically Bellingham-esque, but Cody didn't let the slick trails and rain clouds stop him from getting rowdy.

As if flying out to Seattle and then driving to Bellingham wasn't enough travel for one weekend, the very next day we hopped on a ferry in Anacortes to check out the trails on Orcas Island's Mount Constitution. With plenty of big hits, stacked berms, and some of the most beautiful forest the PNW has to offer, the island trails delivered what we were looking for.

After a long journey back to Seattle, lengthened by an inopportune ferry delay, we packed up Cody's bike and drove him to the airport in the wee hours of the night. We can't believe how much we got done in a single weekend, and we're even more impressed with how hard Cody worked to make it all happen.

I think this video was pretty epic, relatively simply shot without any fly by wire footage or drone pull aways yet it did a great job of conveying a real sense of speed.

 Thank you!

On top of Kelley always looking insanely fast, that helps a bit. That was very sick to watch.

 Feeling the small roosts.

Dope! I wanna go ride now!!

What is the song? MTB videos love using this style of music (on youtube: Cannondale & Ergon commercials).

It drives me crazy- I call it the middle aged mountain bike dad song.

Totally agree. Couldn‘t watch it until the end.
  • + 13
its royalty free generic stuff couse people realised that using rolling stones for commercial vids might by slightly illegal
  • + 45
The top comment right now is about the music? That says more about pinkbikers than anything. *Watches video with ultra sick riding: meh, the music sucks...
  • + 22
@bentwheelz: I’m sorry to hear your mute button is broken, I hate when that happens ????‍♂️
  • + 14
@cliff-huckstable: I couldn't agree more! Flat-out insane riding. People just love to have something to complain about.
  • + 2
 @nikifor88: thanks for the help.

Guys yeah it came off as complaining, but just genuinely intrigued by the “generic mtb commercial” song. maybe it’s in a lot of other product videos as well outside of mtb. I didn’t say the riding sucked or that I didn’t enjoy the video. When it started I seriously thought it was the Ergon commercial and instinctively went to the bottom right hand corner to find the skip button.
  • + 7
You can just mute it, and stop complaining. Riding was so sick! Cody is the man!
  • + 4
Last man Standing Graffiti Ghosts!! SHAZAM!!!
  • + 2
 @jwallker13: thank you!

A complaint is much less of a complaint if it’s a legitimate question
  • + 1
@cliff-huckstable: You nailed it! A sad bunch indeed!

@GrantMcJ: The same people that jerk off too much and simply don't ride all too often!
  • + 0
@bohns1: where does complaining and making assumptions about complainers fall on your spectrum?

Again it was a legitimate question, somewhat constructive and not the typical “OMG I hate rap this sucks” complaints.
  • + 20
@generationfourth: To answer your question about the trends in music in mtb Youtube videos right now, it is because websites/platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram will now take down your videos if you use copyrighted songs/media. We can not download popular/mainstream songs and use them without paying to do so, which can be incredibly expensive. This was not a problem for creators in the past and has developed as social media grows and becomes more vigilant in screening content. We use music from a licensing website and it is the only way to bring you this content without YouTube blocking it or putting ads on it without our approval.

@pnwcomponents: thank you! Wasn’t trying to be a hater or deliberately top comment with negativity. The video was dope, and I understand you guys are essentially a two person company so should’ve cut more slack. Btw the new handlebar looks sick ...
  • + 9
@pnwcomponents: No offense guys, ur video is rad. But sometimes less is more Wink The sound of a freewheel and tyres plowing through dirt would have been just right. No need for music
  • + 1
@Clifflane3: And even listen to your favorite soundtrack at the same time... Wink
  • + 1
@pnwcomponents: It's been a longstanding tendency. I put my first (MTB) YouTube vid online in 2011 and they cut one of the three songs I used (namely a U2 song).
  • + 3
@cool3: that’s fncked, considering u2 violated my phone and computer itunes by inseminating it with their sh!tty album.
  • + 1
As much as I like music, I'm just not sure you can improve on raw for MTB vids. The sound of hubs, tires and shredded dirt is more than enough for me. One less thing to edit and that shit's free.
  • + 4
@kingsx: @kingsx: No it isn't, you need to record it in good quality, usually separately or have an on-board/remote mic or good directional mic (for some shots). You can't just take the audio from whatever footage you're showing without doing something extra. And of course, all that audio has to be edited. It's literally twice the work of setting footage to a song.
  • + 1
@redrook: Had no idea. Another thing I've obviously taken for granted. Even though I prefer the "raw", it sounds like it's a lot more work, sweetening the audio to match up. Makes me appreciate the "raw" edits more, even though they're anything but.
  • + 2
@kingsx: yeah look at the Redbull speed of sound raw edits... there is a lot of theatrics going on.
  • + 1
@generationfourth: iirc there is a lot of very obvious inserted "raw" sounds in the Life Cycles film (2010), been a long time since I watched it though. "Raw" soundtracks are still just soundtracks.

imo you can't beat a good track along with the footage. I understand the above comments that say this soundtrack is just generic "mtb song", there is music just like it in several movies (again Life Cycles for instance)

Does anyone else feel exfoliated after that? That had more scrubbing than a Proactiv ad.

Haha! Love it. And yes, my acne cleared right up

@pnwcomponents you have a great ambassador for your brand. My buddy bent a derailleur in the slop fest that was the transition from stage 7 to 8 today. Cody stopped, asked if everything was OK and then helped to figure out a fix to get him back pedaling taking time out of his transition to do so. He then rode the rest of the way up with us and chatted with us about bikes and strategy for the next stage, we were riding it blind. All in all a great person. Glad to see he did well today.

 Tidy riding. Pleasingly minimal roost!

Agreed although honestly I preferred watching Brendan Fairclough's edit yesterday...
  • + 9
As are his conditioning products, luscious !!
  • + 5
I love watching Cody ride. His EWS results don’t do justice to how talented of a rider he is. He’s just out there giv’n ‘er and having fun! That’s what it’s about. This stuff makes me want to go ride way more than any “recap” or “highlights” video usually does (although I do enjoy those as well).
  • + 4
@williamwallis You nailed it...I get way more amped watching this type of riding vs any ews recap....Same goes for Kendall-Weeds edits...Just makes me want to play around on the bike more than just an all out smash fest

A couple years ago we did a Squamish/Whistler/Pemberton trip. We rode in Pemberton the day after the big enduro race and Cody Kelly along with Ritchey Rude were doing a ride with a bunch of magazine editors for some new Giro gear. . . the editors were taking their sweet time getting ready, and they did not seem to be in a good mood, but Cody was riding around the parking lot like a little kid doing manuals and nose wheelies, he was the only one that looked like he actually loves riding bikes for a living!
  • + 3
@unrooted: They were probably in a shitty mood cuz they couldn't do any of the stuff Cody was doing in the parking lot...
  • + 5
That nose bonk off the jump, tho! I wish Yoann could follow with commentary while Cody just scrubs, whips, and wheelies everything in sight for a full EWS run. How do you not love his riding style?!
  • + 1
You can watch more (with comments) here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AODh1_BiRDA

His style is unbelievable, no matter the song. I had to watch it without sound the first time anyways...
  • + 6
 God damn that was siiiiiiick!
  • + 4
Definitely my favorite rider. Cody is super down to earth and approachable too.
  • + 3
I need to start practicing those nose taps man they look flyyyy! Oh wait, I got ejected trying to put my seatpost down today. Oh, well, maybe next time.
  • + 4
Missed the video while I was listening and waiting for the Dodge Ram commercial to end
  • + 3
Kid has always had style, google some BMX racing pics of him when he was 12. Cody & his parents are awesome!

I meant to reply to somebody else and cant delete my post. hi.
  • + 3
Great riding ..made those Mt constitution trails look easy and they definitely aren't.
  • + 2
I wonder if Yeti wishes they still had Cody. They might rather have a rider producing content instead of being sidelined for possible drug use.
  • + 1
His spot went to Shawn Neer who is local to the Yeti HQ and has been sponsored by them for years, dramatically outperformed Cody in his first year on the full EWS program

Nose manuals are so enduro. Super stylish but fast at the same time

I just got a PNW dropper, so I look forward to riding like this in the very near future, probably by the end of the week I would assume.
  • + 1
Man Cody deserves a good edit with no music - this is like 90s ford truck commercial music.
  • + 2
Video was sick and music was perfect reminds me of the viking theme

Just one level up from me? Yeah, I wish

The trails are closed for the season.
  • + 3
Please don't be that guy riding the trails when they're closed.
  • + 2
Skate park is open though... Smile
  • + 0
@ashlemon @Uberbob102000 If you could inform me; I've always wondered.. Why are the trails closed during what is "peak" riding season? They're open in the winter, but I haven't been able to get over then... spent a week there a couple summers ago, but didn't ride the trails.
  • + 1
@mtbikeaddict: Too many hikers I guess. There are a few year round trails though - I doubt anyone would care if you ride the Powerline Trail in the summer.
  • + 3
Powerline is open all year, and there are plenty of other trails open during the summer. Most of the quick-hit shuttle trails closed for the summer but we are working on getting that changed. Come on out and shred!
