Filip Polc Santos Brasil - 2016

2016 season is on!

I would say this is already tradition for me to come to South America at the begging of the year, to prepare myself for the season and spend more time on the DH bike as in Slovakia where we still have winter.

This time I arrived to my first race just few days in advance what made my aclimatization bit harder. Another thing was, that we got another hot news from the organizer of Descida da Escadas de Santos. The race moved to new hill - Morro do Pacheco.

This favela is quite steep what bring the possibility to create crazy technical and super narrow race track with many points where we had to watch out, hehe. Since my first practice run I was able to go faster and faster, drifting in corners on stairs is bit different as on dirt, but feels amazing!

My Saturdays Qualy run went quite smooth and I manage to do 1:01s time.

On Sunday morning only the top 10 fastest guys was standing on the start of semifinal run , what cuts 5 riders off for superfinal. I did solid run, with more control and tried to add some pedal strokes to find the limits of the track. 59,4 was still the best time and right after this run we went quickly for the superfinal.

The game was on, everyone was pushing it to the limits and second last rider on start in front of me managed to push the time to 58,985s. I thing this is the classic scenario of real racing and I knew it is all in my hands, even I new I need to push it hard, to be able to win this race in Santos.

I started good, first sets of stars went smooth, pedaling hard, drifting from one side od the track to another one ( using full playground ) but then suddenly I hit my handlebars on one of the banners and I almost crashed and have to save it. Knowing the track is only 1min long and there in no space for any of this mistakes, I have to push it a bit what brought me another trouble, hehe…

I was balancing the bike and holding it smooth , pedaling even on stair and hoping that it will be still enough! After some moments I see my time and 58,895 was just enough to keep the nick name “the king of Santos” 6th time in a row!!!

I m super happy about this… feels amazing to ride here in Brasil and keeping the crown still home!

Thanx to my partners: Leatt, 100%, Red Bull, Polcstershop, Fox susp,
