"In Good Company" - A film about the importance of mountain biking to a community
"If this incident grows their memberships ten-fold, the land agencies will be forced to pay attention." What upsets me is that the word "force" has to be used here. It is very unfortunate. The government and land agencies will voluntarily, almost eagerly, submit to the destruction of something that is already in place, but it takes years, lots of publicity, and an incredible and unnecessary amount of support for the demand of a trail system before the government and land agencies will even start to look into or even acknowledge an issue. Like they said in the video, the government gladly and often works together with hiking communities to create trail systems, but does not extend the same kindness to the mountain biking community. The government should work for the people, not against them. I live in Portland where the mayor/land agencies/government have refused to allow any trails to be built in the county, despite the presence of a tremendous mountain biking community. So I have traveled around the northwest to many bike park locations, including Northfork, and it was truly one of the best. It is sad to see such a valuable piece of land made useless for reasons that seem to have no merit. Truly a tragedy.

How Bikes Make Cities Cool - Portland
Couldn't agree more. As soon as you leave the pavement this "bike friendly city" seems to see us as nothing more than a huge wallet that needs to pay up.

How Bikes Make Cities Cool - Portland
Portland is not bike friendly. There are fights between drivers and bikers daily, usually because bikers refuse to stay on the bike routes. And as for mountain biking, even though the city is covered in parks and forests that would serve as perfect places for trails, the city refuses to build or allow the building of trails anywhere. There have been bikers arrested, yes arrested, for biking in the parks. Its ridiculous.
