Hope everybody knows that Timed Training is pretty irrelevant.

Your all the same. No trails too ride. Ant giving any reply for those mongoose bike rider hoo came down and told me "YOU DONT HAVE THE MAP TO THE f*ckING TRAILS!?" So I gave them the finger and biked along... FAST. Go ride in the club P-enymore
  • 12 0
Claudio's course run would have put him 10th! I know it was drier but still pretty funny!

Timed trainining isnt irrelevant because it shows you who excels on the course. But anything can happen on race day!
  • 11 0
Timed training can be irrelevant as some athletes choose to hold back instead of going "full speed".
  • 6 0
I think he commented on the wrong article....
  • 1 0
Yeah times training is more for the riders strategy. Quailes are what matter more for the race as you can more or less predict the results of the race. Gwin didn't get top 5 in timed training at PMB but won quailed and won the race. I think it showed he excelled at the course
  • 10 9
I thought that everything except final race results is irrelevant, no? Unless someone is endulging a hobby of future/fortune telling from a piece of paper with names and numbers? The time of DH Fan Fairies is upon us!

Gee Atherton 4:15.314 - that would mean... OH NO! the four horsemen, the magician and the hangman in one draw! The Marc Beaumont in 4th coped with Saturnus in the third cycle - Sik Mik must watch out for the 5th left hander! Tell him to add one more click to compression and by any means the rebound knob must NOT point north!

Waki, no doubt you are a complete moron. Educate yourself a little about UCI racing before making stupid comments.
  • 2 1
Waki would have a good point of quailes didn't also count for points and if this season is anything like last season those points are gonna mean something
  • 8 3
alexlag - I just don't like the practice of wondering who is going to win basing on a list in a sport where anything can happen, then explaining in a manner why what you predicted didn't happen. Like: he has too short chainstays or too small wheels, or he won cuz he was already good in PMB. That is a treat of morons, it may be counterintuitive but it is the way it is - sorry. The prime example of such behaviour is betting for money and shouting expert advices at the TV during football match. If it mattered and everyone would be such an expert in predicting outcomes, then Dirt fantasy league would not exist - everyone would be a winner. Just sit back and watch it unfold, may reality surprise you.
  • 3 0
Pretty sure alex was just saying quali is worth points so therefore is relevant..
  • 2 0
Ya, irrelevant. But this time it looks like more of the top 30 were trying, as opposed to other timed results we have seen...
  • 2 0
 Relevant. Quali is relevant
  • 2 0
wait... there's a dirt fantasy league?

@scott-townes: Yes! DIRT did a really bad job in keeping the old domain unchanged populated with 2013 data. For whatever reason, the 2014 round is renamed and moved to dirtfantasy.dirtmountainbike.com - no "league" anymore.
  • 1 1
 Thanks for satiating the obvious
  • 1 0
 Your welcome.

Brit's showing well in the rain and mud - shocker. We get enough practice.
  • 15 3
Connor Fearon stepping it up, good to see a top guy ridin´ Kona :-D
Nice to see Elliot Jackson up there aswell, been missing those whips!! :-D
  • 6 0
I hope Elliot will have a good qualifier too, last time we didn't get to see him live !
  • 8 5
In the interviews I saw when he "retired", the main reason was due to him having problems with asthma and not being able to compete on pedally, physically demanding courses. That bottom section for him, is like a flight of stairs to a double amputee.
  • 3 0
Would be great to see Spagnolo finish in a similar position in the finals.
  • 2 0

My money is on Sik Mik to at least be top 3....if it drys out then I feel he's enough in the bank to win. I'd love to see Sam Hill & Peaty up there 2... I'd just love Peaty to get one more win LEG-END!! Smile
  • 2 0
He's definitely got it in him, I mean he's not showing any sign of slowing down any time soon. Especially on a track like this where its anyone's game. Also us brits are pretty accustomed to the rain and wet roots...
  • 2 0
Very true, I'm not so sure Mik is a Mudder!
  • 3 0
Based on how little everyone else is able to practice, anything less than a top 3 would be a gigantic disappointment for Mik.
  • 4 0
Looks set to be a bit slippery come race! Cant wait Smile
  • 2 1
Jono Jones in 30th... I know its only practice and aint worth Shiz... but come on Woburn Lad!!! I love the fact that when the slop hits... the Brits Rip!

  • 3 2
what? Enduro bike for Gwin in Cairns? is he turning up for a local enduro race or for WC DH ?
  • 9 0
It's the same 'enduro bike' that Mike Montgomery used for Rampage, it may say Enduro on the frame, but it's closer to a DH bike in my books.
  • 3 0
It's still hilarious that he signed a "frame-only contract" to end up not riding that specific frame.
  • 2 0
I want Mannon!!! ..to get another win! Batman
  • 11 13
Gwin is going to come out sizzling hot and fast and show all these sucka racers what's really going on, representing Cali an the U.S. and A, not to mention Jill Kintner for the stars and stripes will make all the ladies want to retire from downhill and take up enduro. USA! USA!

 a patriotic bellend says what?
  • 3 2
 yea...embarrassing.
  • 6 2
Since when is it such a negative thing to support the people from your home country? Sheesh...
  • 3 2
Embarrassing, maybe… But I'd never go straight to calling somebody a bellend for that.
  • 2 1
Speaking for my username, I really hope Connor Fearon can keep it up on race day!
  • 2 1
Connor Fearon stepping up! Where is Hannah though?
  • 1 0
Way in 39th. Hope he's just takin a break.

Nobody wins on a demo , I think it was proven last season by Gwin, and Hill before him !
  • 13 1
@Aibek, is that why Troy won 2 x Jnr Worlds Cups and 2 x Jnr World Champs on one, and is that why Hill won the 2010 World Champs on a Demo. Idiot.

flag Aibek (Apr 24, 2014 at 3:28) (Below Threshold)
Gwin on TREK was dominating , one season later + DEMO = ????.
Hill on IH days was a legend, switched to a DEMO and ????.

winning "X" rider + DEMO = LESS WINNING.

I'm not against Gwin,Hill or Troy for that matter, just saying the bike isn't so good for WC (maybe great and fun otherwise).
The bike isn't everything but it definitely matters. oh and it takes one to know one .
  • 2 1
While this course is more substantial than PMB, it does not perhaps necessitate using the Demo. When the course is as "smooth" with certain actual uphill sections, the Enduro Evo 650b with a Fox 40 is plenty of bike. Specialized gives their team the options to use whatever they want, and Gwin himself said he'd be switching back to the Demo once the track necessitate it.
  • 2 1
@Aibek, no one stays that dominant for more than 2 years. They never have. Even when Hill was "less winning" as you say, he still racked up a WC win and World Champs win. Plus, on Iron Horse Hill pioneered a bike geometry that no one else even had. That was without a doubt more of an advantage than the brand he rode for. Everyone else (riders and brands) have caught up and with that will mean less dominance for sure. Troy had his best year last year with a Demo, and Luca won the Junior WC in PMB. Only time will tell, but I am fairly certain you will see riders with success on board a Demo this year.
  • 5 2
@Aibek, you might want to take into account Hill's injuries that he sustained during that period, do some research. You also fail to recognise Troy's achievements whilst on the Demo, he has now come into the senior racing and is still building his fitness and strength, if you've ever met him you'll know he's not a huge person. Yet despite this whilst on his Demo he's been getting top ten finishes and knocking on the top five door (he was also injured during this period).

In summary it's not the bloody Demo! how much clearer can I be, I'll await your apology come September when the season has finished. Meanwhile I'll start baking a big humble pie for you, it'll be real tasty.
  • 3 3
Unless the Demo gets changed radically , buy a soft hat.
and if I eat my humble pie it sure will make this season mighty interesting!

holding my fingers for Sik Mik & Tracey for this round!!!!.
  • 2 1
I have to agree with Aibek. Not that the Demo is trash but it's in serious need of an update to stay competitive with the newer bikes with revised geo's. Even Gwin last year rode a demo with modified chainstays. By specialized signing him I believe they will take his input to make a newer version of the demo.
  • 1 0
Sure, Gwin had lengthened chainstays but it didn't really help him. Whereas Troy ran the stock ones and Sam Hill had his Nukeproof modified with shortened chainstays. The chainstay debate is so retarded. And remember that Trek had a pretty crappy year as well, even with their chainstays.
