Life in the Loops - Not Wasting the Winter
I have been like that my whole life. I'm 52 and I am able to tear up even the young guys. I discovered mountain biking a few years ago. Before this I race outrigger racing as I live real close to the ocean. Although I can and do mountain bike all year I live in Southern California I stoped going to the gym for about a year and got really lean down to 175 last august and I did not feel strong enough So I started back into the gym it was painful to say the least. I could hardly push up 150 Lbs on my bench. Well I worked through the pain and put back on 25 lbs now Im 195 6"2 and feel like a cheetah. I have stayed on my bike four days a week and the gym three days. My bench is back up to 390 one set max. I feel like a much stronger rider able to handle the down hills better. I dont feel like I have suffered much in my climbing it probably made me stronger keeping up with my riding buddies. Years ago in my early twenties an older guy asked me what I was training for I would love to say I got it right then and there but I'm not that smart but I did figure it out eventually and found out that theres a lot of other things besides the gym or whatever it is that gives you pleasure as long as you just do it. Don't wait for things to come to you if something sounds challenging just go for it you might find something you love like I did with mountain biking.
